I've always loved coming here for their iced chai and matcha, but my recent experience was disappointing and unwelcoming. The iced chai I was served was essentially a cup of oat milk with just a splash of chai. Since I know how their drinks usually taste and look, this was surprising. When I asked one of the employees to add more chai, she took my cup, poured more in, and handed it back without even an apology. On top of that, they forgot the bagel I ordered. I also want to echo what other customers have mentioned about the service here; the employees come across as unwelcoming and lacking in customer service. I'm all about supporting local businesses, especially those who are actively involved within their community but when staff make customers feel unwelcome, it's hard to justify returning. I truly want this business to thrive, and I hope the owners take this feedback constructively. read more

Very cute coffee spot located in Montebello. You won't miss it, it's on a busy street with limited street parking but plenty of back lot parking. I ordered the hot latte honey and it was perfect. It had the right amount of sweetness without being overbearing. Indoor seating is limited, however you will find a larger seating area in the front. They also have a small book shelve collection of different books to read. I thought this was a cute touch. Service was fast and efficient. read more

Came to study and had a good experience. They only have a few tables available but it's pretty quiet. They have parking available in the back, but you'll have to turn the corner of the street to get to it. There's a different parking lot next to the shop, but it's not meant for the customers here. I tried the vanilla cinnamon latte and honey latte. I liked the vanilla cinnamon latte the most because it was perfectly sweet and I enjoyed the cinnamon taste. The honey latte was decent too. The place itself small and nice with seating outside. I have to say both my lattes were lacking a little flavor, it mostly tasted like milk. The service was great. Great coffee at a reasonable price. They sell the beans they use so you can take their tastiness home with you and enjoy it without wrestling traffic in the morning. I sometimes order the iced lattes, which are sweet but not so much as to steal the show from the coffee. The milk I ask for, whole, is great to, depending on how you like your lattes your experience may change. My wife enjoys the macha latte and the chai tea lattes, both over ice. They're pretty good! Just creamy enough and lightly sweetened. I usually opt for the cappuccino and it is strong and full of boldness without being bitter or overbearing. $4.50 for that. They even have otions for kids. I usually don't see many kids here though, mostly folk either reading or doing some work. It's pretty quiet. They have a bookshelf available with many reads. You can borrow and leave books, honor system. Make sure you read and leave a note in the little journal book if you find it, if you want to. They have some cozy photos of different spots in East LA hanging up as well. How many spots can you identify? Parking is a little spot in the rear, turn into the golf course street, or take a street spot in the front of the cafe on the very busy Garfield if you can snag one. Be careful. Overall the staff is always friendly and chatty and happy to help, so i'll be happy to keep coming back. read more

I was excited to try this place, especially because the cinnamon vanilla latte looked so good on the yelp reviews. The coffee is good, but it's not at all as impressive as it looks. And btw, my coffee tastes better when the employees make you feel welcomed. The 2 chicks in skirts were not welcoming, no smiles, no talking. When my coffee was ready, they placed it on the counter, and walked away. Only reason I knew it was for me was bc there was only 1 other person in the store. Part of the experience is ambiance, the people, the experience. This matters because in 2025 we are paying up to $7 for a simple coffee. Came here since I was in the area visiting my parents in Monterey Park. I found a spot right out front but parking looked pretty limited on a busy street. The interior was cute and they had a nice wall art to the right of the inside. I just ordered the Vanilla Cinnamon Latte with which was their most popular drink and it was good. Nothing super memorable about this place and the drink was not amazing to the point I'd go out of my way to come back here. It's a "if you're in the area with no go to spot give it a try". Needed a small place to work at that had great coffee, and this was the spot. Parking: they have a small parking lot located behind their building. Just make a right turn at the light into the golf course. Service: the barista is that took my order is really nice and whipped up my coffee in 5 minutes. She was super welcoming to everyone that was coming in. I didn't even realize that I was working till closing but thank you to the baristas for letting me stay there. Coffee: I ordered their cinnamon iced latte which was delicious. Working space: they have limited seating inside and a lot more outside in the front. I wish there were more coffee shops like Ground Up. On Sunday morning, I had a cinnamon hazelnut iced latte with oat milk, ordered to-go. They have fresh packed beans for sale near the check out which I will have to try on my next visit so I can make their coffee at home. My only gripe about this spot is the lack of available parking, but I would still deal with that struggle to have coffee from here. read more

I love Ground Up! A friend has been recommending coffee shops to us for the past couple of years, and Ground Up came up about two months ago. I gave up on Starbucks years ago, and Coffee Bean was the next best option in our area. Intelligentsia and Blue Bottle have lost their charm a while back, and though Tierra Mia has been solid, a local spot called Local Fixture opened up, serving Stumptown coffee--my go-to--and it's been a strong contender. But Ground Up? It's easily the best local coffee shop around. This place is so good that I'll make an out-of-the-way drive just to visit. I've ordered the large latte with whole milk, plain, and it's delicious (comes with 4 shots). Then I started adding a single pump of hazelnut or raw sugar--perfection. Their Americanos are amazing, too. My wife gets the iced lattes and agrees they're top-notch. My daughter's a fan of the mango juice, and the pastries are excellent. The baristas are friendly enough; they don't chat much, but they're attentive and on point. Parking's never been a problem for me, though I can see why some might grumble. My advice: go around the corner--there's a parking lot and more street parking on a quieter stretch. Ground Up is so impressive that we now buy their whole beans to serve at my restaurant. My only wish? That they'd sell me their decaf espresso beans! read more

Whenever I come here, I feel like it's such a hidden gem for a coffee shop. It's right next to the golf course and right by the 60 fwy. Parking is available in the back and also on the busy street. If you're lucky, you'll find parking on the streets but I would recommend parking in the back. There are a few seats to sit inside and out but wouldn't recommend big groups because it can be very tight for all. Must try their banana cake! Very random, I know but it's so good! While on our way back from Whittier, we made the decision to stop at GroundUp Coffee. We ordered 1 iced vanilla cinnamon latte and 1 iced hazelnut latte, both with oat milk. The flavor for both coffees were good. Specifically, the hazelnut drink had a great aftertaste to it. The parking was a little difficult. We had to park next door since the street parking was limited. The plant decorations added a nice aesthetic to the shop. The only thing we think they needed was some sort of label on their cups to stand out. This isn't a place we would go out of our way for, but if we were in the area, we wouldn't mind stopping by for some drinks. read more

FOOD - I was really excited to be trying out a new coffee spot, pretty local to me. Parking was a bit challenging. The main street is a busy one and customer parking can be found behind the coffee shop but it's small and tight, then you have to walk around to the front. I got an Iced Vanilla Cinnamon Latte. The strength of the coffee was pretty good, strong enough to get you through the day but not too strong to give you the jitters. I hardly tasted any cinnamon, which just seemed to be on top. It wasn't too sweet at all and I like mine to be a little more sweet than that. Overall, the drink was a 4 out of 5 for me. SERVICE - I knocked off a star here because the guy who took my order wasn't super friendly. It seemed as though he's just getting through the day.
