Myself & a friend went & most of it was good until...an employee named Patrick was cutting pizzas. No big deal. He was wearing black gloves. But...he kept the same gloves on when he began eating a piece of pizza, holding a chair while talking with his friends & still eating the pizza, taking out the garbage, cutting pizza again, putting his gloved hands in his pockets, cleaning up the pizza station, and putting his fingers in the containers of ingredients. We are road tripping and got a room in Gold Beach. Got on yelp and saw the reviews for Groundlings. We'll let me tell you, it's that good. We got a you get prettier everyday, take out. Saturday night raining HARD, town is dead, but this place is packed, and I see why. Quality ingredients, but the crust, it really is all about that crust! The pizza is good but the service, not so much. We weren't greeted. No hello, no welcome. My friend and I ordered water and an iced tea for beverages and those took an extraordinarily long time to arrive. After the pizzas were served. We never saw our server until we got the bill. No check to see if we needed refills. No check to see if the food was okay. I've worked as a server in the past. And that is not good service. Yes, the food was good but I will not be coming back because of the service. It's a package deal. read more

Our hotel desk clerk recommended coming here for good food and a friendly local vibe. We had drinks and met interesting people in the bar with live music but left after waiting 1.5 hours without being able to place a food order. It seems that only locals receive table service here, so we ate a late dinner at another establishment in town. We really wanted to like this place but finally gave up 20 minutes before closing. Before Groundlings opened we would have to drive to Portland to get pizza anywhere near this good. Everyone is friendly as well, and you can tell people who work there care about what they're doing. Plus they have a great spot to watch harbor seals play in the Rogue, right out the window. Lastly, we very much appreciate their use of gender-neutral greetings. Sat down at 4 PM. Took our drink and pizza order, we ordered 2 pizza's. Did not have the beer originally stated by the waiter. Had an alternative Belgian in a bottle. That was great. No one spoke to us or asked how we were doing for an hour. We finally had to track down the guys making pizzas in the main dining room and asked about our order. No order. Had not made the pizzas. Claimed they had a similar order "To go" order, but did not have any record of our order. Tried to blame it on the bartender who also never checked on us but the waiter who took our order had no excuse why they did not make our pizza or ever checking on us. They were not busy at all. We were told this is great pizza by a local but the employees attitude was very indifferent to the fact they never checked on us in an hour. They comped our beers and we left. Would not recommend. I don't like to write bad reviews but this experience was ridiculous. read more

Took a chance at this place with just a few reviews and we hit the jackpot! It was 20 min before closing and I had hungry teens and was trying to find takeout. The staff were more than kind and encouraged us to order even though it was near closing and wow was it worth it!! You could see them hand making the pizza and it was wood fired magic! We had the margarita & pepperoni and they had great flavor and yummy crust. Pizzas come in 1 size- which is about a medium. Will definitely come back when we visit again!! read more

Absolutely amazing Sicilian style pizza. I've tried pizzas all over the world as I traveled for work and never expected, once I retired to 'the country', that little Gold Beach would end up with among the best pizza I've ever eaten! Groundings has an incredibly hot and smoky wood burning oven that combines with their phenomenal fermented dough to make crazy good charred and bubbly crust and well-cooked toppings. Moreover, pizzas cook so fast in that oven that even when they're slammed it's not a long wait for a pie. At this point we've had at least half of their menu and have enjoyed every one. The three cupping pepperoni pizzas are favorites (O.G. Pepp, P.A.F Pepperoni as FU#K, and the Sweety Pie), although the sausage calzone and Margherita (ask for basil to be added after it comes out of the oven) are not far behind. Even the S'mores Calzone is as good as it is messy! Living only 3.6 miles away on an ocean bluff I'm always a take-out customer. But you certainly can't complain about the view at Groundlings - it's right on the Rogue river with all the wildlife, fishermen, and boating activity you could ask for. Also got the arugula salad with candied walnut and pear, very refreshing. Lots of seating and a rad bar area. Good prices for beer, great cocktails and the dill ranch is surprisingly good! I don't even know where to start; I can't believe there is a pizzeria in Naples that could top this pizza. We were stunned how good this was tonight. Danny (the Owner) came out to personally discuss some nuance to our order and Mark at the bar couldn't have been more attentive to our order (and he makes a mean Aperol Spritz!). The pizza arrived super pronto and the ingredients were fresh and very tasty. But the crust! OMG! Light, airy with just the right amount of density and chewy-nis. We've had pizza all around the world (including classic NY style at the go-to NY pizzerias) and we can honestly say we have not had better pizza anywhere.
