    Grilled mahi mahi
    Ellie Z.

My mom had done her research before our trip and insisted we find a good seafood spot since you really can't go to Florida and not get fresh seafood. Grouper Shack was at the top of her list because the prices weren't too bad. We went on a Thursday around 5 and had to sit outside since the inside was already packed, bar included. Worth noting if you're planning to go around dinner time. Also worth noting that it's an order at the counter situation, not a traditional sit-down restaurant like we were expecting. Not a complaint at all, just something to know going in. Now let's talk about the prices because $10 cocktails feel like a gift right now when we're so used to paying $14 and up everywhere else. Pretty much everything on the menu was reasonably priced, and you get a solid amount of food for what you pay. I got the grilled mahi mahi, my mom got the grilled grouper, and my brother went with the fried cod. The mahi mahi was nicely oiled and seasoned and cooked well. It was actually my first time trying it and I was not disappointed. Everyone else was happy with their food too. The coleslaw was creamy and tasty, though I could've easily eaten twice as much of it. And the waffle fries honestly might have been the highlight of the meal. Perfectly salted and just slightly undercooked. If there's one thing about me, I love a soft fry. After we finished eating we spotted fried gator tail on the menu and had to order it to go. I'm not sure what I was expecting but it came out as a bunch of little breaded balls of piping hot gator meat with the breading barely hanging on. They tasted good, but once you bit into the meat it had a pretty rubbery texture. Maybe that's just how gator is, so I won't hold it against them. For the price and the quality, you really can't complain much. A great spot to hit if you want fresh seafood without feeling like you broke the bank.

We had oysters and conch fritters and both were 10/10. The vibe is chill with a nice view of the river and marshland. We will definitely come back!

This place is a GEM! The food the service and ambience is incredible! The pricing is amazing and one of the few places in St Augustine that's really reasonable for seafood. My husband is from Puerto Rico and is a super huge fan of whole fried red grouper and this restaurant really specializes in that! We both ordered this dish when we came for the fried red grouper. We ate on the back deck and loved our view. We cannot say enough about the perfection of how the fish was fried and that it was the perfect size so that to not be stuffed. There are so many gorgeous places to take amazing photos walking in, while at dinner and leaving. If you are with kids, you can walk them down to the boardwalk -amongst the salt marsh to find wild birds while waiting for dinner to be brought to your table. But you have to be quick! Dinner comes quickly. I love this set up of ordering at the counter and someone runs your food to you. The vibe is super casual and on the salt marsh like REAL FLORIDA!! Enjoy the sunset colors so time your dinner right. On the plus side there were no bugs!! Many people were there just to sit at the really cool gigantic bar area!

I love this place! This counter service restaurant is great. There is a beautiful outdoor patio that's located on the water's edge. An Inside eating area for those that want to enjoy view but not the outdoors. The food was wonderful. Yummy smoked fish dip, scrumptious lightly breaded fried shrimp, and creamy hot lobster bisque was on our table. I'm looking forward to trying the rest of the menu.

Great seafood and right on the water in beautiful Saint Augustine. Casual and fun atmosphere. Started with the smoked fish dip and Peel & Eat shrimp. All were so good! Large and local shrimp. Oysters on the half shell and Grouper basket were all items I would definitely order again. Highly recommend!

Where are you set the device after ordering your food at the front counter and finding your table

I ordered the grouper basket fully expecting a full fried fish, but ended up with fried filets. Had I known I would have just went with the appetizer. For less of the price I would have received the same thing. Other than the gal at the counter where you order your food there really isn't any customer service. Order your food sit down and wait. Food is good it's a great place to pull up your boat and have a quick bite. There's not much seating in side and outside has only 16 tables. It is nice and quiet I'm here on lunch so there's no kids running around. I see a lot of new comers so I'm only guessing most people don't come back for a second or third time. Of course I'm willing to give anything a second chance, but it's not bad at all. Atmosphere is relaxing. Drinks are really good.

Even though there was a line waiting to order, it moved fast. It was busy at 5:30 on a Friday but we found a great outside table. Having a drink and sitting out with a water view is a perfect vibe. Fountain drinks are self serve but everything else is delivered to the table. Thoughts on the food- Fish dip was excellent Gumbo was tasty, would have liked more shrimp and less sausage. Sweet potato mash was excellent Creamsicle-missed the orange taste, it was more like a pina colada, good but not what I had hoped for. Poke Bowl-delicious combination of flavors Grouper BLT-not the star of the show that I thought it would be. Good but not fantastic. Overall we really liked the place and will go back to try other menu items.

Shoutout to our local community heroes like Scott, Crystal, and staff! This venue is a St Augustine treasure chest full of amazing food, refreshing drinks, happy patrons, personable staff, and true tropical Florida vibes! I love the laidback atmosphere and seaside shack chillin' flow. A well rounded menu from amazing raw oysters to fried grouper sandwiches. The comfort is well represented from conch fritters to greens to macaroni and cheese. The quality is superb and is the consistent! The bartenders are so lively, professional, and welcoming. The bartenders is the spot to sit if you want table service, if not just order at the front ordering counter and they bring the food out to the table. It is a beautiful venue to sit on the deck and absorb the atmosphere. There's also seating inside dining area. The staff is attentive, friendly, and they work like oiled machine. The entire meal was a fun treat and a great way to spend time making memories together. We loved it so much that we went two weeks in a row!! Picturesque views and photo ops are always free.... Taste the Love!!

    Fresh catch sandwich

Great location on the water. Sat outside on a hot day and it wasn't too bad. Counter ordering like a fish shack ought to be. I had the flounder fresh catch sandwich with the waffle cut fries and slaw. Pretty good. Got it blackened. For the fried grouper, I didn't love the breading. Cornmeal based which is to my liking. Just didn't have the seasoning I was expecting. And it seemed to hide the flavor of the fish. Very nice bartenders serve you replenishment of whatever you are drinking. Attentive management checking in on everyone. Plenty of parking in the oversize lot. Will come again.

Great spot. Hidden away Indoor seating and best outdoor seating. On the water. When you walk in be prepared to read menu on walk. You place your order with cashier and you ger your own cutlery napkins and drink. You gtab a yable and they find you and bring order to you. Fresh well prepared seafood. Great service.

New little place located in a marina. We figured we would give it a try since the menu looked good. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the order at the counter vibe but it's actually remarkably well organized and the people at the counter taking your order are super nice and happy to answer any questions. The food comes right to your table so ordering at the counter is really not a big deal at all. Tip: You can also order your alcoholic beverages at the food counter or you can go straight to the full bar. I had the fresh wahoo sandwich blackened. It was the best sandwich I've had in a long time. Mostly because the fish was perfect and the overall sandwich was simple so the fish was the hero. We also had the crawfish which were a nice treat. They were a special catch of the day so we definitely got an order of those. Others at the table also got crab legs and fried clams. Thumbs up from all around. The deck is gorgeous and the view is amazing. We saw some gorgeous birds and just enjoyed the peaceful setting. We will definitely be back.

She was very kind and accommodating as we were looking for a specific table location on the patio. I would also like to shout out our server, Tom, who was also friendly. Unfortunately, service is only half of the experience. We started with a dozen raw oysters that were just not fresh. They were stuck to the shell and tasted very old. Our entrees were the beet salad and tuna poke bowl, which were both pretty good, but my wife complained about the abundance of candied nuts in the beet salad. The entertainment was meh. The manager was constantly petting the house kitty cat and then handling food, drinks and shaking customer hands. Seemed odd. Their sushi chef recently passed away so nothing related to sushi on the menu was available made to order. The place just needs proper leadership and could be a much more enjoyable experience in a town with few options on the water.

The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, we met so many new people. Our service was outstanding, I highly recommend this restaurant.

Catch 27 - St. Augustine, FL…read more Came to St. Augustine with a group and Catch 27 was suggested for dinner. Great choice. I checked the Yelp reviews ahead of time and it definitely lived up to them. People in our group started with drinks and everyone at the table seemed happy with what they ordered. I had the red wine braised beef brisket for my main and it was excellent, very tender and full of flavor. My friend Damon next to me had the red snapper and I tried some of that too. Also very good. Someone else at the table had the Rockefeller crusted snapper and that looked and tasted great as well. For appetizers, I had the shaved pear and blue cheese salad. It was really good and honestly enough for two people to share as an appetizer. People at the table also ordered the Devils on Horseback and liked them. I do not eat bacon, but they were happy with that dish. The deviled eggs with southern fried oysters looked really good, and I had the smoked salmon spread, which was very good too. I also saw the shrimp and grits come out for someone else and that dish looked excellent. For dessert, I had the sticky toffee pudding and it was a strong finish to the meal. Others at the table ordered the seasonal crème brûlée, which was chocolate that night. It looked great and everyone who had it said it was very good. Sunny was our waitress and she did an exceptional job. Attentive, kind, and on top of everything the whole night. In my mind this is about a 4.7 star experience, and I am rounding it up to a full 5 stars. Catch 27 is a great choice in St. Augustine.

There was no one at hostess stand because system was down and they were having troubles which I felt bad for the hostess who seemed stressed on obviously a busy night. They were out of both of the entrees we wanted, which was unfortunate but I ended up getting the catch beurre blanc and it was delicious. I ordered a sangria but our drinks took a very long time to come out, after our appetizer (crab, an heirloom tomato bruschetta which was yummy and more filling than regular bruschetta!) Overall, the food was really good and waitress was nice, but water was never refilled and everything took a really long time to come out. Would love to try it again on a regular night and hopefully they have the entrees we wanted to try:)
