One of the best winter vacations we ever had. The facility is marvelous, the staff is fantastic. The food in the restaurant is outstanding as is the bar. And the location can't be beat! We booked 4 nights at the Grouse for our stay in Whitefish. I was very specific when I booked directly with the Grouse and told them I was arriving with two dogs. I was told that wouldn't be a problem, and that the Grouse was "pet friendly." After a three hour drive we arrived to check in. First off they had no idea I was arriving with pets, and then went on to tell us that they accepted pets, but that they could not be left in the room unattended for even a minute. So basically we could not leave the room to use the hot tub, grab a drink, or take a walk without taking the dogs. Forget going into town for a meal or to grab a coffee. The girl at the desk was helpful enough to explain that only ONE of us had to stay in the room with the dogs. Haha, I was imagining flipping a coin with the Mrs. to see which one of us got to go into town for a beer!!! Do you really expect people to come to your hotel and bring their pets with them EVERYWHERE they go for four days?!? So I told them that they really should mention this on their website, or tell customers about the policy when they book their reservation. Whatever, I just told them to cancel the reservation. The woman at the desk started to give me some lip about how I would be forfeiting my $150 deposit. I was starting to feel my blood boil when the manager came out and told the front desk girl that they would refund my deposit immediately. The manager was actually very apologetic, and he was very professional and polite. We ended up staying at the North 40, in a private cabin, which was a bit more expensive but very very nice, and they were very accommodating with the pet situation. I really liked the look of the Grouse, and the facility was much nicer than much of what is available in Whitefish, but the inconvenience caused by their lack of communication about their pet policy was extremely disappointing. read more

We stayed at 4 different hotels on our trip to beautiful Montana last week - the Courtyard Marriott in Missoula , the Summit Mountain Lodge in East Glacier, the Belton Chalet in West Glacier and the Grouse Mountain Lodge in Whitefish. The first 3 hotels were great - friendly people when we checked in and throughout our stay ,with Great customer service - the rooms that were exactly what we expected based from the hotel website and worth what we paid for them. And then there is the Grouse Mountain Lodge - it was Awful ! We called the hotel the day before our reservation to see if we could check in early - they said that was fine. Then we called to make spa appointments - and the receptionist for the spa informed us that the hotel had a broken water main, so we might only be able to get massages- no news of this from the front desk. We called the next morning and it was fixed - so we did drive there and checked in early - (probably because all the guests from the previous day left.) Check in - 2 people at the front desk - one was dealing with a guest that was requesting a refund - the second person was looking over her shoulder as she tried to make an adjustment to the bill on the computer - completely ignored me for over 2 minutes - no "hello - sorry - I'll be with you in a minute" - then she checked me in and was borderline rude. BTW - no bellman - they have 2 carts outside for you to haul your own luggage - right next to the benches with 2 overflowing ashtrays at the entrance. We reserved the "Loft Suite" - it has a "lower sitting area "- with a gross love seat and 2 stained swivel chairs and with stained carpet ( photos attached)- and an upstairs loft with a king bed and 2 twin beds - (watch out for those lamps on the wall that you hit your head on when you sit up.) For 246.51 - their internet special, you get a view of the parking lot - went back to the front desk to request a room overlooking the golf course -same rude person said all the Loft suites were on the side we were on - FYI you can get a room at The Palace Hotel - a historic Starwood property in San Francisco for $269 - I just checked it out. Our TV's didn't work so we had to change rooms . The bill they gave us was for the full rate -even though I pre-paid through Glacier Park Inc - the company that manages this place . So I went back to the front desk and the person working that day was just as rude as the other one from the day before- she said" I've never even seen that rate before - I have No problem correcting it- but I don't know why you got that rate" - she took my incorrect bill and said"It's going to take me awhile to correct this" - so I went back to the room , we packed up and 20 minutes later when we left she handed me a corrected copy - WORST customer service EVER - The only good thing I have to say about this mess of a hotel is that the Spa is great - we had wonderful massages and everyone there was as friendly and nice as they were at all of the other hotels - but it's a company that leases the space. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. read more

The accommodations need updating. The furniture is old and well used. Restaurant food was good and the service. Ran out of complimentary coffee in the lobby and i asked for it to be refilled. Fifteen minutes later I am still waiting. Several people have left the lobby saying...where is the closest starbucks. Mold in the shower, dirty carpets and chairs were stained. Unclean room. So I would say 3.5 stars. 5 stars for local rate-- it was a great value (my sister in law lives in Whitefish) 4 stars for room decor and layout. We had one of the deluxe rooms. Plenty of space, two sinks in the bathroom, king size bed and thermostat that you can set to what you like. The beds are a little too firm for my liking, but I definitely prefer that to saggy springs. No outlets near bed-- always a little annoying to plug in my phone (which is also my alarm clock) half way across the room. The air in this area is super dry-- ask for a humidifier if you are not used to it ( I couldn't breathe without one). There is free wifi throughout the hotel-- not fast enough to stream Netflix though. 4 stars for the public areas. I loved the rustic decor. Soft soothing colors, real fireplaces, taxidermy and antlers all over. I didn't swim in the indoor pool, but we did use the hot tub, whirlpool and sauna. Nothing like 105 degree water in the snow. 3 stars for the on site food. Ironically the food in the bar was better than the breakfast in the main restaurant. See my other reviews in Whitefish for better dining options. 2.5 stars for cleaning crew. Bed was made half fast--like if your mom told you to make it and you didn't want to. Cups with apple cores were left on the night stand ( like we needed to keep those) and my husbands socks were in the middle of the floor where he took them off. None of the coffee supplies were refilled. They did leave us new towels though. Overall-- easy to get to, they provide airport transport, and you can print your boarding passes for free. We will most likely stay there again. Hopefully the mattresses will be slightly broken in by then. read more

Writing this as I sit in the lobby of GML. Overall a nice place and actually a little cheaper than the Holiday Inn Express in whitefish..... go figure. The rooms are big and clean. Had a good experience with maintenance man about the ac in the room. You have to keep in mind this is an older lodge so it is not like the freshly built cubes along the highway.... has a great charm. I would give 4 stars with this caveat..... I was obvoiusly lied to by the morning barista who told me she had just brewed the coffee and when I pumped it out of the pot, it was COLD... not warmish but " last night " cold. This place badly needs updating. No housekeeping services, which we understand. But at least give adequate towels to get through a few days. When you run out of anything, you have to go get more at the desk. Every shower was in dirty undrained water past our ankles. We reported it every day. It eventually stopped draining at all and we had to get in the sludge to shower. Mold all over the bathroom. We gave up trying to eat here. Breakfast cart has hugely inflated prices and closes when it runs out of food. Coffee is gone by 730. We stocked up at Safeway so we wouldn't starve. You have to go to the computer room to use the ancient communal microwave to heat anything though. Very tiny tv and the thinnest walls ever. My bed jumped like someone was kicking it from underneath when people were walking in the next room. This could be a nice place with some work. It's definitely not worth $300 a night with taxes and resort fee. Wishing the best for the staff as one employee is working several doubles in a row and another employee hasn't had a day off in 21 days. This hotel look quaint and cozy in the website but it's less than desirable for the money you pay. Bed was uncomfortable and if you are on the bottom floor you hear every single step above you. People in the room above me moved early every morning and stopped around all hours of the night. I asked multiple times for a room change and it was never granted. I left messages for the manager who never called back. Sophia was a pleasure and the coffee bar did custom make my breakfast sandwich. They charge for for an amenity fee that I knew nothing about. Staff could use some training, I felt like I was bothering the lady at check in and then the concierge really encouraged us to take the free shuttle to the town claiming it was hard to find parking but there was plenty of free parking in the town and it was a Saturday night in August. Nope.... not again.... could be worse but definitely should be better. In short, the carpet in the room made my feet greasy and when the morning light shone through the window, I realized why.... simple routine maintenance item that was ignored and in my opinion unacceptable. Traveled to the hotel from a Holiday Inn Express, left the hotel to stay at the Lodge at Whitefish Lake. Both of the other accommodations met the basic standards, one was slightly more plush but still feet should not be dirty from the rooms carpet. My wife is calling me the princess and the pea, but so be it, wash tour floors. Rest was good, staff could use a bit of cheering up, but all was suitable or better. Would stay again but only assuming something went wrong with just our room and nowhere else. read more

Took the amtrak and this was an option for the amtrak vacations. Originally concerned about being so far away from town (1 mile or so) and the ski resort (15 minute drive), but they have the best courtesy shuttle here. They have scheduled times up and down the mountain, but they will take you back and forth to town all you want (til 2am). Staff was very friendly. We had one driver who was super informative. Bartender was also very friendly. Had the breakfast in the resturant a few times. Enjoyed the outdoor hot tubs and the warmish pool. Pretty happy with our accomodations and would definetely recommend. There is a small gym on site. read more

Our room was perfect, a great staging area for our big trips into Glacier park. The restaurant and Bar were Awesome and our Bartender was so much fun! This is a review of the restaurant only. The meal was absolutely tremendous. I had the salmon with pasta with light cream sauce. The food was hot, extremely well prepared and well presented. I had the huckleberry cobbler for dinner and I'm only disappointed that I couldn't eat two of those desserts. What a treat. The service was superior and the atmosphere is very comfortable. Wendy was my server and she was phenomenal! There's also an outside deck area to eat which is very nice and overlooks some beautiful fields and scenery. read more

A disappointment. First, their directions to use GPS coordinates are wrong. Just go the the intersection of Fairview and 93, don't spend 20 minutes driving around. Called them for directions but I guess the guy at the front desk couldn't be disturbed to pick up the phone. Rooms are badly in need of updating. Do hotels really provide tiny TVs these days? This one does. Shower is a half glass wall. There is no overhead light in the room, you have to fumble around in the dark to find the switch on the wall maps. Their book says the bar is open until midnight, the website says 2:00am. In reality on a Friday night it was closed at 10:45pm. The desk in the room is tiny-- don't expect to do much work here. Checkout time is 11:00am. Asked for a late checkout and was denied. read more

This was my first visit to glacier and first time in whitefish I was very happy with my stay here. Karen, the general manager, went out of her way to accommodate us. We were meeting friends here and they took a lot of time getting us rooms next door to one another. Daniel was excellent in helping us out on a few occasions. Stayed 2 nights in their corner suite. Staff was friendly. Room was ok, but the king mattress and pillows were terrible. Need to replace at least in this room. Ate in the restaurant one night and the food was very good. However, it was difficult to get anyone's attention as they seemed to prioritize the 2 receptions/functions that were going on at the same time. Felt like the step child. We spent one night here, on a Friday night, before a bike trip into Glacier National Park (thank you to the Siksika native peoples). It's just outside of "town", about a 1.2 mile walk into the downtown area. The Lodge is by a golf course if you like golfing.Looked beautiful. There is a restaurant and bar in the Lodge serving all meals and drinks. Beautiful rustic type decor, with animal heads on the walls. The Lodge has a shuttle service from the airport in Kalispell, on call or pre-reserved, and also will shuttle you to town and back. When we arrive, mid day, they could not check us in, and said not until 3, then modified it to 4 p.m. They held our luggage for us. It was a "software" program. We went into town on the shuttle, and driver Kim was very helpful. Unfortunately, they put us up in the wing nearest the wedding and band, which played into the night, audible to our room. Bummer. The bed was beautifully made but squishy (our backs hurt - we are middle aged). Pillows are super ... Well, they weren't squishy enough to be comfortable and I woke with a huge kink in my neck. Breakfast and dinner service in the restaurant were great. The people at the front desk had to issue us three different sets of keys because the first two just didn't work. read more

Building is old for the price, customer service at the front desk was horrible. While the lobby area is beautiful, the rest of the hotel is very dated and the rooms were in poor condition. The curtains in the room do not close, they are just decorative, so if you enjoy closing your curtains at night to sleep you will be disappointed. In the bathroom, the counter tops were separated from the wall and sloping. The mini fridge in our room was sitting on a wobbly stand so when we would open the door to the fridge, our items would fall out. The driver is kind and very funny, however we will not be coming back. read more

Grouse Mountain Lodge is a great place to stay! It is a beautiful hotel with big rooms, and very clean. The bar and restaurant are both great, and the views from the hotel are amazing. There's also a free shuttle that takes you to downtown Whitefish and picks you up which is great because it's nearly impossible to find parking in Whitefish. read more

I love this lodge. Our favorite features were the hot tub (it's a long outdoor tub--not a small, round one), the cozy fireplace in the lobby, and the lovely restaurant with its own huge fireplace. We brought our dog who also loved our room. We ate breakfast at Logan's (the restaurant in the lodge), and the smoked bacon was the best I've ever had, the potatoes were yummy, the rye toast was amazing, and finally someone knows how to cook scrambled eggs properly so they aren't dry. It was so lovely and quiet. Unfortunately we ate breakfast at our friends' lodge on Whitefish Lake the next day, and the service was beyond absurd. I wish we could've eaten at Logan's for breakfast again...We also received a $5 credit for declining housekeeping, so I bought huckleberry jam at the gift shop. At check-out, the only issue was that there was a mystery charge of about $12 that she said was charged on Saturday night; however, we ate at Ciao Mambo that night and didn't charge anything to our room at all during our stay. It was a little awkward, but she took it off. (I think guests should have to show I.D. to charge to a room. Anyone can claim they are staying in any of those rooms.) Anyway, my husband had also left his laptop there and they called immediately to let us know. Thank you so much Grouse Mountain! We will definitely be back! read more

We stayed here via a Groupon deal for 6 nights and our time here was mixed. Essentially it was good, but there are a few minor problems along with a more serious problem with housekeeping. -The theming in the hotel is quite nice and atmospheric. The wood and the fireplaces make it seem warm and rugged. -The pool area was decent and the guy came around to check water quality constantly, but I am concerned about using regular doormats instead of rubber ones. I could see that being a possible health hazard. -The cards for the rooms broke on 6 different occasions, which was irritating, but it happens at a lot of hotels. -The wifi was free and worked better than most hotel wifi As for the "environmentally sound" stuff I am just not so sure that they are doing that for the environment so much as to cut costs. At other hotels I have stayed at that did this they changed the sheets every other day and you could easily opt to have fresh sheets if you wanted to. At this hotel they only change the sheets every three days and as far as I could tell there is no easy way to opt to change them sooner if desired. On the same note is the soap, lotion, and conditioner all come in little hand pump things with no labeling on them for ingredients. Not a big deal, but a little annoying. Now for the main problem: -Housekeeping was extremely slow and not at all thorough for two days in a row. The first day we came back to the hotel at 3:30 to find that our rooms were not done. We found the housekeepers way down the hall and asked them to do our rooms. They replied that they would get to it after the others. We told them to do the rooms right away because we wanted to have a nap for a bit. They then went right away, but took about 45 minutes doing them. Afterwards when we went in we noticed the floor wasn't vacuumed and some of the garbages weren't changed (despite being full), but we didn't complain. The next day we came back at 2:00 (still pretty late) to find that they were doing our rooms. About 30 minutes later they were done, but when we went in we found that they had barely done anything. One of the bathrooms wasn't clean, neither floor was clean, one of the beds was half made, the glasses weren't replaced, two of the garbages weren't done, and two of the garbages had no bags. At this point we complained to management and they came back and cleaned the rooms again, this time thoroughly and at least twice as fast. The other days after that the housekeeping was decent, apart from the floors which still weren't vacuumed for some reason. Anyways, a decent hotel but we had notable problems with housekeeping along with some other glitches in other areas. read more

We went to the Thanksgiving meal yesterday with our friends, they invited us. The meal was $28.00 per person, what a joke! You could have either Prime Rib or all you can eat Turkey dinner. The dinner rolls were old, the Cesar salad had watered down dressing, and the potions were a joke! You would think for $28.00 per plate they would give you a nice potion of food, not a chance! Hotel accommodations - Not many hotel options in Whitefish, thankfully a Hampton is being built as of this stay. Hope it's open soon! My room had stains on the ceiling and on the carpet. They made a big deal about fines for smoking in the room as they were now a non-smoking facility; maybe they should spend a little of the money on cleaning the rooms so they no longer smell like old cigarettes. I was on the first floor, and whenever anyone walked down the hall my bed shook like an earthquake in CA. Last, all of the light switches were in awkward places and there was one working power outlet in the corner of the room away from the 'desk'. There was one other on the bathroom counter. Really hard to get work done like that. The light switches bothered me, nothing like opening the door into a pitch dark hotel room and not being able to find the switch. Then, having to walk into said blackness and fumble around. There's a reason so many horror films are based in hotels. Jeeze, even Motel 6 leaves the light on for you! Restaurant - I came at an odd time, around 2:30 PM or so. The three onion soup was very tasty although salty (expected, no?). The sandwich was good. I found myself thinking the food was much better than the stay, including the service even at that odd and short-staffed time. Staff I ran into in the halls all looked the other way and were frowning, no one said a word. I don't want suck-ups, but it would be nice to be acknowledged. This included housekeeping, the girl that worked at the spa, and various maintenance/cleaner people inside and on the grounds. This place wasn't cheap. I'd eat there again, but look for a different place to hang my hat even for just one night. read more

Came up to MT for a good friends wedding, we had a large wedding party, 9 on each side. All of us had rooms along with 40-50 others in their late twenties. A large portion of us are from Montana which is notoriously known for drinking and having a great time. The night before the wedding we got back from the bars around 12 and continued the party in a few rooms before being interrupted by the security guard they have on site. With 60+ people staying in the hotel it wasn't hard to find a new place to continue on with the fun. Again though the guard followed us, pounding on the doors and yelling into the rooms, he was honestly making more noise than the party. I went back to my room early, around 1, and my neighbors were enjoying themselves, I didn't have any issue sleeping through the noise until the whitefish pd were called by security and they woke me up by again knocking on the door as loud as they could. Obviously no actions were taken by the police because writing a noise complaint ticket to a group of people that live out of state is ridiculous. I may have been able to sleep well because the beds here are amazing, one of the more comfortable nights of sleep that I've had in a while. The wedding reception was at the conference center the next night, it was a great set up as it was a beer/wine set up but we could walk to the bar in the hotel and get shots/cocktails as needed. Around 10 I asked the barkeep what time she was closing, she said it would be open as long as she had customers, I specifically told her she would be packed until 2 when the reception was over. Despite this she closed shop at the same time the wedding reception ended so our only option was to go to rooms to drink. As you can imagine the security guard again showed up, within 5 minutes of us getting to the room. He banged on the door for 10 minutes while we ignored him. Finally he stopped and we switched rooms in hopes to avoid this man again. Without fail 5 minutes into the new room he again was at the door, this time with whitefish pd... After explaining the situation again to the officers they agreed we should be able to continue our fun and requested we take the party to the hotel lobby where we were able to drink and play music until 330, with the security guard watching over us the whole time. We got some good laughs at him and now have even more inside jokes for the group of friends. Overall the wedding was awesome, grouse mountain lodge was an average hotel at best, for the price I had expected more. As stated in a previous review the toilet paper is as bad as it gets. The service was bad, took way too long to get meals at breakfast and lunch but the food was good. I was the only person at the bar while waiting for my flight and I was still largely ignored. A few times throughout the weekend I had to go request more water instead of the waiter/waitresses doing their job and checking on customer needs. I wouldn't recommend to friends and family. I would recommend to management they find new employees, stop cutting corners and most of all find a security guard who's capable of dealing with people in a professional manner. You could tell he was the joke of the establishment by the way the actual police officers showed him no respect. 2 stars because the bed was awesome. read more

I've never stayed at a hotel that was so loud. The walls and ceilings were so thin that I could hear everything, even from the lobby area which was on the opposite end of the hallway. My bed would fully shake and shutter whenever a neighbor (next to or above me) slammed a door or jumped out of bed. I couldn't get to sleep until 2 AM because of the noise. The food at the restaurant was decent but I had to ask multiple times for refills on my water. Not my favorite stay and not very relaxing. read more

My husband and I wanted to escape for the weekend and always wanted to check out the town of Whitefish. We made reservations to stay at the Grouse Mountain Lodge for August 9th through 11th 2019. When we got there and checked into our room we noticed how stained and dirty the carpets were, our lamp shade had a stain that appeared to be wine as well as the chair padding. We got dressed and headed down to have dinner and a couple drinks and came back to go to bed. When we got back to our room and pulled back our bed sheets there were several black hairs all over them, the second bed in our room was the same way. When my husband went to use the bathroom and lifted up the seat there was dried pee all over it as well as hairs all in the tub. My husband was furious at this point and called down to the office. They sent a maintenance man with bed sheets to change the beds. He openly admitted he didn't really know what he was doing and clearly saw all the things we pointed out so I told him I would make the bed if he would handle the bathroom which he did. He also told us he was going to tell the office what he witnessed about our room. The next morning we went to the office and told them our story and they didn't offer to take money off or even say sorry. We were so disappointed that we ended up switching to another motel downtown Whitefish. We have always heard good things about Grouse Mountain and wanted to give it a try but ended up being VERY DISAPPOINTED! read more

Had a great time here. People are super nice and they have good food and cheap beer. Beds are extremely comfortable and they offer free shuttles into town and the airport. read more

Whitefish is a gem of a town....much more resort-like than expected but full of charm (think Boulder or Santa Fe). For the price, this place was above average. The restaurant grill was fantastic! Maid service was a bit shotty and they didn't give us fresh towels daily. Also they only have complimetary coffee before 7am. read more
