My better half and I are always up for trying something new. It was my birthday recently and I felt adventurous to do something a little outside of our normal comfort zone - a murder mystery dinner! Clue is one of my all-time favorite movies so I figured why not! The Dinner Detective evidently has lots of locations throughout the U.S.; ours was at the Hilton Garden Inn in Burbank. You order your tickets through their website and I advise reading through everything to ensure you're still up for the experience. Tickets are about $68 per person. Menu options for entrées are chicken marsala, grilled salmon or pasta primavera. Also included are complimentary appetizers, salad and dessert. If you want to drink anything other than water or coffee, you have to pay at the hotel bar (which loads of people definitely didn't have a problem with). So how does it work? You arrive at the location and wait in line to register. After confirming your tickets, you are told which table to sit at and you get to create a fake name for the night (wear your name sticker proudly!). After settling in and mingling with your table, everyone has to get up and interrogate everyone else in the room. You're provided with a questionnaire to help break the ice like who's your favorite villain and other random things. Some actors pose as other guests so you don't really know who's part of the show until the end! Once the murder occurs, the mystery is broken up into three acts with each ending with clue(s) that are posted on a board for all to see (also accessible via QR codes at each table). The dinner is served at the end of Act 2. The killer and motive are revealed at the end after everyone has the chance to solve it (you write down your theory and they collect your answers). If you can solve the case, you are awarded a goodie bag with merch and a gift certificate for another murder mystery dinner. They have different murders/plots so you can return for a different show (each are titled on their site so no need to worry about having the same experience). How was it? Well, your experience kind of depends on how social you are as it's an interactive dinner. Some people were more outgoing/lively than others, but the actors (the detectives and hidden ones) try to get everyone involved. Speaking of acting - they were all entertaining but don't expect anyone to give an Oscar-worthy performance. While they follow a storyline, it's also improv heavy and they're not attached to mics so expect lots of screaming/yelling! Our table was in the corner and we were facing the wall so we got some neck pain twisting to see the show before we got room to turn our seats more comfortably. The food was pretty bland but that wasn't a deal breaker. My wife had the chicken marsala while I had the pasta primavera (which wasn't served; instead basic spaghetti was given which upset some others who ordered the pasta but whatever). Overall we had a fun time and would recommend it if you're looking for something different to do. They also do private events if you want to hire them for work, parties, etc. Dress is business casual so no need to come all fancy schmancy (unless you want to). Remember that everyone uses fake names, so if you get embarrassed rest assured that you most likely will never see these people again. They also have limited suspect package add-ons when purchasing tickets, so you have the opportunity to frame your guest as a suspect without their knowledge!

Oh what fun! I didn't know what to expect going into this, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much fun we were all having. The case itself was interesting and fun to solve, but it was the actors that made it an absolute blast. Truly talented, kind and hilarious people were a part of our show. I found myself laughing more than I have in a while, which is always wonderful! I am taking a star away for food because it was a bit mediocre honestly. I found chicken to be a bit over cooked and chewy. But I am glad the appetizers were tasty. Of course, this experience is more about the show/experience than the food. So if you're considering going, just do it!

Yes. all of our events have an Age Requirement of 15 and older.

Weird question but - is this a good way to introduce future in-laws to each other for the first time?? We are wondering if we'll have the opportunity to talk, hear each other, etc. throughout the entertainment, or if it will require constant focus.

Sounds amazing... until you show up and it's already full... which was what happened. Our movie started at 6:00 PM, we arrived around 5:20 PM, and the garage was completely closed off -- they weren't letting anyone else in. Luckily, we found parking about 3 minutes away and paid around $5, which honestly wasn't too bad. We came here for the second part of our Valentine's date night and watched Wuthering Heights because hello... Margot Robbie is my favorite girl. I haven't been here in over 15 years and WOW -- I forgot how absolutely beautiful this theater is inside. The lobby is spacious, classy, and honestly feels kind of luxurious. There are pool tables, a full bar area downstairs, and spaces where you can hang out with drinks and good company before your movie. We headed straight into our theater and ordered food from our seats (also... water is complimentary, love that). We were seated in our own little pod -- super intimate with two seats, cozy setup, and yes... a blanket. It truly felt like rich people movie night. Shoutout to our server Jake, who was outstanding from start to finish. Great service, super attentive, and made the experience even better. Food-wise: The Boss Burger ($20.5) was a solid 8.5/10 -- hubby really enjoyed it. Although, there were no pickles or tomatoes in there even though it was in their menu. I ordered the Chicken Caesar Wrap ($17), and I'll be honest... it was the only downside of the night. It was a bit cold and tough, and the tortilla-to-filling ratio was a little off for me. I'd give it a 6/10. If the tortilla was a bit warmer I'd think it'll be able to hold onto the filling a bit better, but that was meh, for me. BUT the fries? Piping hot, crispy, and delicious. And Jake even brought us ranch, BBQ sauce, and extra ketchup without us having to ask twice. Overall, this was my husband's first time here, and it definitely won't be our last. We had such a great experience -- the ambience, service, and overall vibe were top-tier. Can't wait for our next cozy movie night here!

Unfortunately, after the movie ended, I forgot to put it back on and left it there. Since it was the last showing, there were no movies after ours, so nobody else should've been in that theater besides staff cleaning up. I called the theater nonstop that same night and nobody answered. The very next morning, I was the first person to walk into the theater when they opened... and surprise, the ring was gone. LOL. Really disappointing experience, especially considering how expensive and "luxury" this theater tries to present itself as. I expected much better customer service and honesty.

Don't get too toasted & sloshed or you could fall back backwards.  3 man band starts playing stalwarts of the American Song Book about 15 minutes before show time at 7pm. The doors open at 6pm. The 2nd show starts at 9pm.  You can order a short list of bar food, and there is a full bar, but obviously no loud blender to disrupt the show which runs around 90 minutes. Drag is a venerable art form. In Shakespeare's time, the Globe Theatre had only male actors so Drag was de rigueur as well as the ancient Japanese Kabuki Theatre which is still all male to this day.  Host Tommi Rose, 47 year Drag veteran originally from the La Cage aux Folles Night Club in the 1980's as well as at famous Finocchio's in San Francisco during the 1970's, does a flurry of 13 costume changes ending with a silver beaded dress weighing 28 lbs.  A Marilyn Monroe, who is a dead ringer to the original, performs flawlessly channeling her inner Monroe. Lady Gaga makes an appearance lip synching to songs when she sang with Tony Bennett. The in between acts had a "Cabaret" Berlinesque feel that Liza Minelli would have been pleased.  The Torch Song finale was a rousing, feel good rendition of "I Am What I Am" from the song originally introduced in the Broadway musical La Cage aux Folles.  It was a poignant song that makes no apology nor excuse for who we are. And that is the way it should be.  Enjoy the Drag!!!  PS Get rid of the annoying two pillars blocking the view of the stage.
