3 stars - Solid bread and toppings, but the signature items fell flat I stopped by Grumpy G in Lawrence, MA looking for a late-night Dominican treat. I ordered two traditional chimi sandwiches and one Dominican hot dog from their outdoor setup. The bread on the chimis was excellent -- soft, substantial, and it reminded me of the Tripoli bread I love. The toppings were fresh and flavorful too. Unfortunately, the star of the sandwich (the beef patty) was a big letdown. It was extremely thin and unimpressive, which made the whole sandwich feel underwhelming despite the good bread and toppings. The Dominican hot dog was even more disappointing. I had high hopes for it, but it tasted like a generic, water-filled beef dog you'd grab from the convenience aisle at Market Basket. Nothing special or "Dominican-style" stood out. For $45 total (two chimis + one hot dog), I expected more from their signature outdoor offerings. The food I saw being prepared inside looked like standard fare, but the outdoor Dominican items I came for didn't deliver. If you're in the area and craving Dominican street food late at night, you might have better luck inside or elsewhere. I wanted to love this spot but left pretty disappointed. read more

I was in the area and I needed a quick bite to eat, and I stumbled upon grumpy g's. The ambience of the location was nice and seemed very clean when it comes to the staff they must've just been a little busy because they weren't checking with customers as frequently as they might should have, but then again, they could have been busy with take out orders. I have tried this place 3 times. First time .. the customer service was terrible. The waitress was careless, never checked up on us. I dropped my utensils and she was nowhere to be found, the food was okay. The second time I went in and decided to do take out. I ordered the chicken teriyaki which did not taste like chicken teriyaki at all. The chicken was very salty and it tasted like sweet and sour chicken, the rice was overcooked. The plate of food was $16, not worth it at all. There are great restaurants in the area for cheaper lunch. I attempted to call for take out once and the girl who picked up the phone was extremely rude. Very nice place to eat , Imy sandwich Was delicious , the only thing I didn't like was the very loud music... very loud nightclub club music at noon time , I was eating and try to relax but I couldn't it . Please put some easy listening music while people are having lunch. read more

A coworker and I went to grab food here since we were working on a job site in the area. The waitress was friendly but there was a bit of a language barrier. Neither one of us habla Spanish ‍ We were the only 2 people in there and the food took over 20 minutes to hit the table. My buddy got a burger and I got Steak and cheese. Neither of us could get past the second bite. Probably the worst food either of us had ever had. Not to mention what those 2 bites did to our stomachs for hours after. They are overcharging! Not right to have a price on the menu if $15.00 and charge the customer $28.00 just because! That's is Illegal! My family came to visit me and we decided to come for dinner to Grumpy G. We placed our order and the waitress keep coming back asking what we had ordered, this happened 5 times before we were served. The steak and chicken tasted like fish. If I could give this place 0 stars without a doubt I would. Walked in for lunch and no one greeted us. We picked up a menu from a table that was there and then finally the server came up to us and said we could take a seat. Took our drinks and half of them were unavailable. Same situation with the food, most of it was not available. The food took forever and there were only 2 tables that were occupied including mine. The server completely forgot our drinks and never came to check on how we were doing. Food was okay. My empanadas were on a bed of dead lettuce and the sauce was whatever. Some people walked in and had to call to the back several times because no one was paying attention to the front. In the end we got up paid and left because the decency to check on us was just not there. Not planning on going back. EVER! read more
