This was my first time at the middleburg location. It's in a cute little plaza. They have outdoor games you can play while waiting. We went in around 11am and it was very busy inside, but our wait time was only 10 minutes. We were seated and the waitress got our drinks quickly. I ordered the country fried steak breakfast. You get a lot of food for a very decent price. Everything was good on my plate, but the country fried steak is different now and I unfortunately didn't like the meat itself. Before it seemed and tasted like an actual steak, but the last two times I've ordered it, it's like a thin processed meat patty. Please bring back the original version because it was the best one I had ever had. The sausage gravy was good. My daughter had French toast and those were really good. Everything came out fairly quick considering how busy it was. Food was hot and fresh. Our waitress was very nice and checked on us often. I definitely recommend this place for a good breakfast. I really want to try the Reuben sandwich on my next visit. read more

Today was the second time I have eaten at this restaurant. My first experience several months ago, was very good and the food was good. Today it was a disaster. They must have a new cook in the kitchen (if you want to call him a cook or chef). The food was horrible. As a Vegan I cannot find too many restaurants that cater to my dietary needs, but I found one item on their menu I could order. Before we ordered we asked for a side of french-fries because we were very hungry and did not want to wait for the order. For $3.99 we received a small dish with 13 fries on it (I counted them), they were cold, salty and had at least that many smaller pieces of overcooked fries on the plate. Looked like someone's leftover fries from another table. There were three of us in the party. One member of the party ordered a pot pie which came in a very small dish ($13). She could not eat the crust, it was undercooked, and did not finish the chicken stew. The other person ordered the Fish and chips ($15), he had fried grouper and french-fries. The grouper came out looking very crispy and a good-sized portion. When he started eating the larger pieces, he noticed that it was not cooked all the way through. He decided not to eat it and never bothered to tell the server about the issue. I ordered the avocado toast (seemed like a safe meat free choice), I told them to please do not use any dairy or oils. I did not want the fruit side so I ordered the vegetable medley, I asked if there was meat in the vegetables and I was told no. The other vegetables on the menu all had some kind of meat in them. This was the same thing I order a few months ago and the veggies were prepared without butter or oil, not overcooked and very tasty. Today the medley came out looking like greasy overcooked cabbage. Everything was covered in heavy oil and unappealing. I asked the server why were they so oily, how were they cooked. I told her I thought they were steamed, and she said they cooked them with an oil/margarine mix. When I pushed the vegetables to one side of the dish, there was quite a bit of orange smelly oil all over the dish - soupy. This was definitely not edible. The avocado toast was full of oil as well and had an odor that was odd, like bacon grease. The avocado was mashed and brown and the tomatoes were cut very thick, so I had to use a knife and fork to cut through it. I called the server and said that I ordered the toast dry, no butter. She said it was oil, so she brought me another one. They reused the same sprouts, avocado and tomato from the one I returned - the sandwich was still oily. I guess I am fussy, and I am not sure how other patrons feel about their food, but something was definitely not right. They need to hire a qualified cook that knows how to cook. He was certainly not a qualified chef. We arrived there after 1PM, after the lunch rush so the restaurant was not that busy. Actually, our food came out very quickly, almost like it was precooked and waiting to be plated. I gave it a two star instead of a one star because the server was very nice, the way the food is prepared was not her fault - I left a generous tip. Servers get a bad rap and low tips because of what they have to serve people as a result from unexperienced cooks in the kitchen. They did their best to correct the problem, but the second sandwich was just as bad as the first. At that point I was so hungry I tried to eat what I could off the sandwich. I did not want to take pictures, but I should have. Seeing is believing. What a disaster. Sorry, I rarely give a bad review, but this restaurant owner/manager needs to know what happened, and hopefully correct the problem in their kitchen. I travel all over the state to find restaurants that serve healthy food, and a restaurant that caters to people who have food challenges but, I have come to the conclusion that restaurants do not want to cater to people like me, we are the minority. Just one or two healthy items on the menu would bring in more people. Make a few healthy food choices and train the cooks/chefs to respect the needs of those who might have allergies or special dietary needs. My advice to those reading the reviews - If you are a Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten sensitive, or someone who is health-conscious or have food allergies, read the reviews given by patrons, look over the menu carefully and be sure they have something you can modify if necessary to fit your dietary needs, and be specific when ordering your food. I thought I did all those things, but I was not successful and will not be coming back to this restaurant. Including the tip, we wasted $60 on a very disappointing meal. PS - the wood booths are very uncomfortable, no cushions, so don't plan on spending much time there to visit. Especially if you are old like us. read more

This delight can be found at Grumpy's Restaurant in Middleburg, Florida...I'd love to know how they came up with their name for the franchise because this breakfast/brunch gives you a myriad of emotions but grumpy is NOT one of them! It was absolutely delish. To my shock it had 2 crab cakes on top and rather large shrimp inside--I added mushrooms and jalapeños because spice is sooo nice --right?! There a hollandaise sauce on top of it which is a fabulous touch because I enjoy that on my eggs Benedict and have been known to order it on customized omelets if available. The portion is substantial and I had at least 2 meals out of this having it to go. The side of potatoes are not to be disregarded because the flavor on them requires no additional need for pepper salt or anything. I usually prefer my breakfast potatoes with hot sauce and ketchup but didn't miss the hot sauce at all. This first impression of Grumpy's definitely made me make a mental note to keep them in mind as a breakfast go to. Absolutely delish! Kudos to the chef! read more

Grumpy's Middleburg is one of my favorite breakfast/brunch places. The food is fantastic, serving sizes are huge, and the service is prompt and courteous...always. If you like Home Fries well done, ask for the "Homeys Walking.' I love their omelets, my wife raves about their eggs benedict, and the fresh OJ is wonderful. So I was visiting my brother in Florida and he wanted to take me out to breakfast and he chose Grumpy's... it's a small looks like locals favorite but it was a wait and people were patiently waiting their turn to dine . We were only a table of 3 so it did not take long to seat, our server named Janae, who was amazing.. she was fast but not rushy , friendly and recommended some really great pancakes that came with a marshmallow drizzle ! And cinnamon butter that' was so good ! ... I would have NEVER. Tried pumpkin pancakes if she didn't suggest them. The pancakes where great , coffee was ok I also had eggs, home fries and bacon , they looked great just needed some more seasoning ( that's just my opinion)the portions where huge the food looked amazing but I didn't have a lot of taste with the exception of the pancakes.
