I came to the Galleria Mall looking for a new blouse to wear for the weekend and came across this store. It's small and a little hidden but the mannequins drew me in. They had classic rock shirts on that lured me right in. There's ponchos, cute 70's tops & bottoms I was in rock, punch, grunge, and disco heaven. This store is for all genders! The place had that "thrift store smell" but it had so much offer! In the back of the store it had bins of records! That's right vinyl baby. From Stevie Wonder to The Stones. In front of the store you could find flannels and all types of different rock shirts. Even hippy bags, and buttons. The only thing I found wrong with this store was the prices. I thought they were a little pricey for used clothes. But I gotta say the clothes are gently used and in great shape. I did notice a review before I started mine stating their was no refund signs. I have to agree. I wouldn't of known that otherwise. Normally when you purchase something that's non refundable the sales associate will tell you. The person that rang me up didn't mention no refunds. Nor does it say on my receipt. So buyer beware and ask questions in case you are unsure of something fitting. read more

How much fun was I havin'? I was in the shop so long I got a parking ticket & I didn't even care. Much. Ordinarily this place is cheap, but before Halloween the prices appear to be seriously jacked up (deducting one star for that).....and that's how I ended up spending $118 on this year's costume. And my feet will be killin' me thanks to vintage boots that hurt, but I stand ready to suffer, all for the sake of glorious Halloween. The proprietor and I had the store to ourselves, and she kept bringing stuff to me (good salesperson)....and everything I tried on fit perfectly. The name is so fitting!! Granny takes a mighty big fall. Store is hard to find. There wasn't a large sign posted anywhere. Granny where are your glasses? Granny got a painted job. The store is now painted hot pink. She likes it bold, baby! The lady behind the tiny counter greeted me... while she was talking on phone. Women and men's clothing oh my! Small space packed with old things: Lots of see through loungey shirts Ugly "moo moo's" Apron looking tops Tie-dye pants Outdated prom dresses Sorry Granny, moo's moo's aren't hip anymore! I come from a town that's spoiled rotten on vintage clothing shops, thrift stores and is headquarters to the very ingenious creation and ever so rapidly growing, Buffalo Exchange. So when I moved to Hermosa Beach, you can imagine how thoroughly disappointed I was. It was like a fashionista's nightmare. That is, until I found "Granny Takes A Trip". Interesting little tidbit(s): Wikipedia says the name (Granny Takes A Trip) was appropriated from the "First psychedelic boutique in the 'Swinging London' in the 1960s". It was also the name of a Purple Gang song of the 1960's named after the store and banned by the BBC. As far as I can tell, the store doesn't physically have it's name displayed anywhere IN or ON the building, so if you're trying to find it, it's best to look for the "Everything $10" sign located out front on the sidewalk. They're located two blocks north of Pier (on Hermosa Ave) on the side closest to the beach, next to a barber shop. I have vowed myself to the Yelp moral code, and in doing so, I must disclose that my first couple visits were not anything to write home about. I didn't have a really bad experience per-say, but I wasn't exactly blown out of the water. The first visit consisted of a quick looksy because I was (naturally) intrigued by the "Everything $10" sign. I thought the store was maxed out on space and that felt a little suffocating. Plus, I saw some to-die-for cowgirl boots I wanted, but they were hardly $10, as advertised outside. On the second visit, I was on the hunt for some summer threads. I found some really cute blouses that I bought, but not without a little attitude from an overly apathetic English lady manning the cute little makeshift counter. I was frightened that she might be the owner and sort of avoided the place for a few months, but then a friend came to town (a friend who LOVES thrift shopping), so I took her there. I guess the third times the charm because that was when my love for Granny Takes A Trip began. We were greeted by a real Chatty Cathy who was just opening the store. As she was setting up, she let us go inside and start browsing the racks. She didn't hover, which gives me great relief. I absolutely despise people breathing down my neck while I shop. While she wasn't hovering, she sure was chatting! We talked about Arizona's new racial profiling law, about how she felt smited by a review someone wrote accusing her of being racist (FYI: It's pretty clear to me she is NOT racist), about vintage shops in Tucson, clothing, waist belts and the list goes on. I found her demeanor to be authentic and I almost felt as if I had known her in some past life. In addition to the great dialogue exchange, I also found a wonderful summer dress that fit me like a freaking glove and she gave me a free waist belt of my choosing. Ummm, score! Turns out she was the owner. Before we left, I mentioned I would write a Yelp review and she seemed excited! In the end, I'm a total sucker for superb customer service, so after my last visit and my encounter with her (I believe her name is Tiffanie), my once upon a time feelings of suffocation and annoyance suddenly melted away and I felt admiration and respect. The place is OK but buyer beware. Everything in the store is $10. There was this ring that caught my interest but it wasn't marked that it was sterling. I asked what was the made of and the lady of the shop said that some old jewelry don't get marked but it's some kind of metal and unlikely to turn. I paid $10 for this ring and I shit you not, an hour or two later the ring turned! Bull! I'm so aggravated, and feel cheated. Over priced Low quality items. Don't waste your time or money. read more

Well I thought the owner was nice - sold me a stained and torn dress when I came back the next day and addressed it she said she'd have her seamstress fix it.. than she charged me $10!! And it was the worst sewing job you have ever seen. Overpriced for the quality. Nice to me the first time.. very rude me every time thereafter now. "Owner is a sweety! I was there doing fun birthday shopping and there is so many amazing vintage items in there. We didn't have a lot of time before our dinner in Manhattan Beach and she helped me quickly find two AMAZING dresses that fit perfectly! This has to be one of my favorite thrift stores ever!!! I found cool pieces at a fair price. The have a large variety of jean shorts, band tees, sweaters, jewelry, etc. the staff are so friendly and welcoming. This is a one stop shop for great clothing and accessories. I sometimes come by here and am impressed with their selection of kooky clothes and accessories. The price tag of ten dollars is something I can handle...but I can always get most of the stuff at Salvation Army, less than a mile away, for five bucks cheaper. The store is cute, so check it out! I had gone on a Sunday and showed up to the store at around 11:45am (almost an hour after the store was supposed to open and nobody was there so my mother and I waited 10 min and then went to check again and the store was still not open. I love this store! I don't come as often as I would like because the parking situation for this shop sucks bring quarters with you. The store is super small and cluttered but it's worth it if you are patient. Last time I was there I came up on a amazing 60's gown, vintage gloves with the matching clutch all for under $20. Do not shop at this place. A new employee,Ashley, was working alone. I asked if this store except returns, she said yes and that I have up to week to return for a full refund. I came back three days later to return my purchase and the owner was working. She said no her store doesn't accept returns. The owner calls Ashley to confirm and Ashley said she remembers telling me that she said no returns;however, the owner passes me the phone and Ashley said she "kinda" remembers me. Of course she is trying to save her ass with her boss...The owner then gave out Ashley's information as far as name, phone number, and other job so I can speak to her more....which is illegal by the way...The owner also said she doesn't have cameras so she can not pull up the conversation I had with Ashley asking about returns the day I purchased, and most importantly she could not explain why she doesn't have a sign saying no refunds, exchange only anywhere in the store. Very bad first trip.Her attitude was very rude. She gave me and my family a really bad vibe. Im not sure if it was our appearance or race that made her come off ass rude when we asked questions. I was really excited about going inside but her attitude just killed it all. Made us feel so uncomfortable that we had to put our hands behind so she wouldn't think we'd steal anything.
