I never enjoyed going to gtm because of the hectic mess and fend for yourself vibe. About 2 months ago I was there trying to grab some killer discounted drinks and because everything was just thrown randomly on the very cluttered shelves I ended up knocking over a glass bottle. The huge shelf had multiple of one brand but not in the same place, literally scattered and hidden by other scattered items. The whole store had this going on! Especially the cosmetics aisle. Looked dirty and messy and used. I visited about 1 week ago and I was very surprised to see that the store started to have organized aisle. The beverages were starting to be bulked together by brand making it very easy to see how many there are and what they are, like a legit store. I just went today and am sooo shocked with the improvements in just a weeks time. The beverages are super organized. The cosmetics are nicely hung and organized and the shampoos and hair products are also forming a unified, organized look. A lot of the store is still a scramble but obvious improvements are being made. Whatever or whoever happened in the past couple weeks, keep it up! read more

Just wanted to let you know that I came in to Santi location today and Ruth and Stephanie were working and they're always smiling

I've seen lots of reviews that aren't great for this store because it's cluttered or not so nice employees but we had a great experience. it is a discount store that sells Costco returns and such, its not going to be organized like a mall store. We found a few really great buys and with the coupons the price was even better. Some stuff was priced too high and I think that is because of the coupons and sales they are constantly doing, price it higher and give a discount and everyone feel like they got a good deal. we found lots of Essie and OPI polishes for cheap, my daughter found Elf makeup for $1.99 and 2.99. I got some Levis shorts for $12, 5 art canvas for 9.99 which is cheaper than amazon. the granola I buy for my mom was $2.99 and its normally on sale in store for $4.99. Temporary hair dye for $2.99 when it is $9.99 at target or ulta. I thought it was a fun place to go and let the kids find things they need. It's summer so there were a ton of water toys and one that we bought several years ago for $300 they were selling for $79!!!! You can find great deals here if you know what to look for. read more

I was trying to put my finger on exactly what this place reminds me of and how to explain it when I read another review comparing it to Big Lots. I think that is a pretty fair assessment. That may be a bit generous but it's fairly accurate. As my previous review states, don't come here looking for anything in particular. I could be totally wrong but I think GTM is the type of store that buys Costco overstock or open box items at a deep discount and passes those savings onto us as consumers at very cheap prices. We've certainly scored some gems here, but those gems are items we had no idea we were both looking for or needed. You get the point. Sign up for their emails and you'll be rewarded with some killer coupons, as high as 33% off, which is a great deal when looking for things like a standup paddle board, a bidet, or a wine fridge, all items that we've seen here. read more

This location is a bit smaller than the one in Lemon Grove, in my opinion. They didn't have a good selection of anything and the store had a funky smell. There is a lot of parking though and it is close to Phil's. So 2 stars for this location. read more

During these times of Covid 19 GTM stores has been providing the things we need for our homes from toilet paper, clothing, furniture, milk, eggs, and soo much more, I am grateful they have our safety in mind and are able to provide great customer service in all Gtms, no matter where you go, the staff is soo nice and also the store is clean, I will continue to shop here. Absolutely the most worth while and best value store for your time, in all of San Diego! The deal to time ratio here is unbelievable. You got to check their website, instagram and Facebook accounts for daily deals and special coupons. Regulars go with a price scanning app to compare the GTM sales price to online prices, just to make sure they are maximizing savings and not purchasing an item for more that or near the items retail price from another retailer. Items often are only in the store for a manner of hours before being purchased, so regular visits are recommended. The store is never really the cleanest, best organized, or friendliest option - but the deals and potential steals definitely make weekend and midweek trips worth it. I recently went into GTM in Santee. I would this really cool console that I have been wanting from Costco that was 35% off. I went up to the front desk and asked for help in furniture. When the sales associate came out I asked him if they would give an additional discount as the merchandise was nicked up on two sides. He stated that he would have to call his supervisor and check. I was standing pretty close and heard him ask if he should give me 50%. Once he hung up, he came out and said the manager told him that I could use the additional 20% coupon that was on their website. When I got up to the cash register, Ruth told me that I could not use two discounts at once. I explained to her that the manager had approved it. She sent me over to Jose, the manager. This man was extremely rude and told me he had not talked to anyone about furniture. Come to find out, the associate spoke with the assistant manager (a young female) and not the manager. When I approached her, she denied telling him that I could use the additional coupon. It really made me angry that I was getting the run around from these people. I have been a steady GTM customer for the past 25 years. I have noticed a huge decline in their customer service. After the way they treated me, I can understand why! They are so inconsistent. In the past, I have used 2 coupons with no issues. No more GTM. You can take your coupons and stuff them where the sun don't shine. You just lost a really good steady customer. read more

One of the cashiers with long black hair at the north register at around 5pm on the 4th was extremely slow. There was another cashier on the south cashier that moved people 3 times as fast. I have a large family of 5 and shopping at the GTM really helps stretch my budget to clothe and feed everyone. Products change weekly and most of the stock comes from Costco, Bed Bath & Beyond, Walmart and other misc retail stores. They have a bit of everything, clothing, shoes, bedding, pantry foods, beverages, toys, office/school supplies, pet supplies, cleaning products, home goods, furniture, flooring, suit cases, beauty/makeup, electronics, and watches. I do want to warn you that as organized as GTM tries to be, it can be major cluster F--- at times; narrow isles, shelves just in complete disarray and clutter everywhere! Most of the cluster F--- is due to very inconsiderate shoppers that rifling through merchandise and not caring how they leave things in their wake. There are also those shoppers that will shop right in YOUR shopping cart. Truly, at times it is unreal but if you can handle the mess and other rude shoppers this is your go-to place! Sad note, coupons are no longer offered on their website, you now have to sign up for the email newsletters. So far, I haven't seen a coupon greater than 20% off. They do have a loyalist reward program where you shop and earn points; I just cashed in my 50% coupon yesterday. Score! Most of the employees are friendly and helpful. There have been a handful that need a lesson in customer service and a personality transplant but then again if I had to deal with rude and nasty people that yelled at me bc they couldn't use a coupon on a sale item, I might be just as miserable as they are. I'm a fan. I found them when I lived in Santee and was driving by. I've been a customer ever since. It's sort of a big yardsale with a return policy. The items for sale are either return items from big box stores or close outs or overstock items or food getting close to expiration date. Sort of all over the place. Sometimes the stuff I buy is missing a part but they have a 30 day return policy with receipt so keep those receipts! Sometimes the items for sale are not that great of a deal if Costco is having a sale on the original item but if you price shop and know what's a good deal and what's not, it's a great source of all sorts of stuff for the house. Sometimes you can get screaming good deals on items. For all the random stuff they sell, they do a really good job of keeping it orderly and organized. Well, good deals... sort of? Beware... a lot of what they sell is returned, used merchandise. A lot of stuff is from Costco, however, priced higher than new and often broken. I went in looking for a large area rug. They have several to chose from but again... used. I looked at one that had food stuck to it from the previous owner.. Did I mention they sold groceries also? Well, they do... sort of. My daughter and I went on a hunt to find as many outdated products we could in 10 mins.. we found 40. The store is "very" dirty and smells HORRIBLE... no joke... It's HORRIBLE. Kinda like a turd wrapped in burnt hair. The staff is very pleasant, mostly high schoolers. It's a real shame.. no pride of ownership from the owners here. read more

GTM used to have really great deals on overstock and return items from Costco, Target, and others. That is no longer the case. Twice now I have found them selling items for the same price Costco has it but their return policy is a joke compared to Costco's. This week they had a lot of Samsung TV's in the store. Many were without a remote and wrapped in plastic wrap, not even in the box. Their price was $1,127 for a 65 inch Samsung which was on sale at costco for $1100. Its not the discount store it claims to be anymore and its shows as the foot traffic has dropped dramatically since I started going there 8 years ago. read more

GTM Discount General Store is a very large, bargain basement type store. They have groceries, clothing, furniture, yard tools and just about everything else. I spotted a lot of leftover Costco inventory from dog food to baby diapers. An employee informed me that the inventory selection changes by the week. I have never been more excited about a garbage can. Part of the thrill was the crazy women who began eyeballing it as soon as I got my hands on it. Because you know when *I* have something, it immediately becomes desirable. I had to protect it like a $99 dress at the bridal show. I hefted the heavy thing up and began to crab walk to the register. One woman even blocked my way with her cart and said, "Oh my GOD that is an AWESOME trashcan!" I said, "I know. I scored." Then I flipped her off. (Eh, not really. I'm not that rude). But I swear, them women were ready to shank me for my trash can. $25 for the trashcan. A similar and not as nice one at Big Lots is like $40. Boo-yah. I also got some toilet bowl cleaner ($1.79) cotton balls (around $1) and some orange red nail polish for Xmas partying-down. They also have well-priced clothing, like Polo shirts and khakis and jeans. Oh, and they had Maytag washer/dryers and some nice couches. GTM spits on Big Lots, BTW. read more

A couple co-workers alerted me to this sanctuary for the deal-obsessed (me). I printed some 20% off coupons and shopping we went. This is 100% Costco merchandise. I could walk through each section and check off stuff we'd purchased at Costco over the past year. Most items were about $5-$10 less than what they were at Costco and with the added coupons the deals were even greater. I found a purse I'd had my eye on at Costco, but that had sold out at the store. And with the discount and coupon, I ended up paying 50% less than it was selling for in-store at Costco. I also picked up a Kirkland dog bed for about $20 less than at Costco. Unfortunately our dogs thought that bed sucked so we brought it back two days later and returned it with no hassle at all. I love a place that makes returns easy! Some items are just wholesale swap meet crap, but the name brand items in the store come from Costco. All the clothing, shoes, and accessories I saw were also straight from Costco. They have bulk dog food which -- after sneaking a peek in the back room -- appears to be a mix of a bunch of random Kirkland brand dog foods. We feed our dog Kirkland's Grain-Free food, but didn't see any there. This is a place I will definitely add to my shopping rotation. I can't wait to see what they have next! read more

Ahhh, GTM. For someone that gets claustrophobic in crowded, messy stores such as Ross, I should really stay away from the chaotic, unorganized, practically tornado-stricken land of GTM. However, there are some hidden gems here. And by hidden, I mean literally hiding beneath a pile of damaged, taped up goods. For example: - Crockpots and other kitchen appliances - Adidas activewear and Puma slippers - Healthy foodstuffs and vitamins (gluten-free flours, bars, nuts, sauces, etc) - Assorted office supplies (i.e. hybrid Five-star notebooks) A lot of their merchandise seems to be from Costco or Sprouts at significantly discounted prices. It was our first time! I walked in and waited for about 10 mins to show someone my Costco card! Sadly, no one greeted me, so I shrugged my shoulders and realized this really wasn't Costco. This place is kinda like a Big Lots and a 99cent store that also sells some Costco goodies. A little known fact that this place has SOME of the close out items from Costco!! I found work Kirkland long sleeve button down shirts that I get to time to time for $13!! Usual Costco price is $18. My prima cotton t shirts that are usually $4 each are $3.49, so not a great discount, but the fact that we can get them is very cool. They have electronics there, but it looks like they are mostly out of box. I wouldn't recommend buying those. There was furniture in the back too. They had an electric leather sofa recliner for $689. Good deal! Careful on the food items, check the expiration, because the cheezits that we got were very close to being stale. They expired the following month. All in all, our curiosity was fulfilled. We'll probably be back although Santee is a bit far for the common folk. Have fun! Don't take life too seriously, because there will always be something to complain about, choose wisely. ;) read more

How do I review the old GTM? This place is stocked by out of date Costco items and various other household items and food thats expired. You can find some very interesting deals here and is worth a visit if you need household items but don't want to pay the grocery store prices. There is a large area for clothes that are of good quality (Costco items) and an area for furniture and other mattress and lighting options. Very random but fun store for the thrifty. read more

Friendly store the mangers are caring and check on the staff. There was a mean lady from a distant land far far away (neither Asia or Europe) nasty to the cashier calling the girl dumb. I was snickering at the ladys stupid jabs she then proceeded to followed me In the store and I asked her to stay away. The manager approached me to make sure I was safe! I stopped in on my lunch break to look for a pair of shoes, I ended up finding two pairs of Levi's that looked the same size but numerically were different sizes. I went over to the fitting rooms and waited for about five minutes and could not find an employee, all of the fitting room doors were open so I decided just to try on the pants, I was only in there for a few minutes because again I am on my lunch break. I came out of the fitting rooms and then saw a jacket that caught my eye so I was trying on for size by the rack I then had been surrounded by employees that were all staring at me. I went to the register put my stuff down and again I saw employee staring and pointing at me and talking to each other I walked over and open my bag and told them if they wanted to accuse me of stealing just asked to look at my bag. I have never in my life stole anything and I don't appreciate being treated like this. Had I not really liked everything I tried on I would've just left it at the store. The girl at the register was very nice and apologized for how they were acting.. I have shopped here many times but after this I will never go back to this store. If you go online, you can get a 20-30% off coupon. We recently purchased a double jogging stroller for $70 using a coupon. It was at Costco two months ago for $260! (Most of GTM's stuff is from Costco, so you know it's good stuff.) Two things: 1. Make sure you check the expiration dates (they come up quick) 2. If you like it, get it. We are new to GTM but have been so impressed with the store manager Nathan Genovese and his support for a non-profit cause we support. The deals and service that we have recently gotten at GTM has allowed us to bless more impoverished kids both here in the US and also around the globe. For example, we got nice flip flop sandals for children 25 cents a piece and great sun hats with UV protection for 50 cents. These are perfect for our cause where many children don't have basic necessities. Thanks Nathan for your help. You have been extremely supportive. For those of you looking for alternatives during this time just want you to be aware that GTM does sell a small variety of milk and dairy as well as food products. Canned vegetables and fruits. Things like cereal chips cookies snacks of All sorts breakfast bars. You can also find things like pastas and sauces. You can also find Kleenex, paper towels, toilet paper and paper plates. please know their stock is not as vast as a grocery store however that being said as we are indeed looking for alternatives GTM might fit the bill for you in a pinch to pick up a few extra items. You can also pick up some hygiene items such as shampoo conditioner soap. Please consider giving them a try hopefully this helps they are still currently opening at 10 a.m. however if you are a senior 65+ with an ID you are able to shop Monday through Friday starting at 9 a.m. read more
