Most disrespectful and blatantly dishonest clerks ever!! One clerk tells us the price on certain item is as the sign had listed in front of the entire shelf of the same item (with the exception of the very bottom shelf - out of 6 shelves). Then as we attempt to checkout, two rude clerks tell us "FYI these are not the price as listed on the paper" which was in front of the 5 shelves of the same item. Mind you we didn't care but the fact that they were so insanely rude about it, we point out that we were told by a male clerk stated the sign reflected the items we were holding. The other clerk goes and removes the paper and comes back to say "no sorry"..... ?????? Where are we? Initially we didn't care, maybe the first clerk made a mistake, things happen and we understand. But the fact that the clerk went back and rips the sign off right in front of me to make a point was surreal. And to have the audacity to come back and say "yeah it's not for these" with ripped off paper in her hand and male clerk telling her everyone had it confused because the sign makes no sense why it would be placed where it was and not on the very bottom shelf where it belonged. read more

If you are in the area its great. I have to drive out of my way to get here. But the first time I came here it was near a nail salon. My sis in law was telling me it has everything! Pros: Coupons off your cell phone,great organic foods(really have to search) this aisle seems the most crowded when I go in. If you look around you can get some really great deals,found a $3 bra :P Cons: Crowded parking lot and store. The lines are long to check out and take awhile. Don't come here if your not willing to wait. The cashiers don't look friendly. Only had one thank me for waiting. I probably go again but only if I am in the area. read more

I've been shopping at Santee GTM, and their other locations, for several years now, and my biggest complaint is that they NEVER have an adequate number of check out clerks available. The lines could be snaking down the aisles making it difficult for shoppers that aren't ready to check out yet nearly impossible to shop in those aisles. I think GTM thinks it's doing a great job, but they are not. On more than one occasion I have left my shopping cart or basket in the aisle and left the store because my time is more valuable than that. The other complaints I have is that is it unbearably hot in the Summer months inside their stores. They recently installed LED overhead lights and there isn't enough light in the aisles to see the labels on the products. read more

Some of their older staff are very rude. Seems like they don't like to be bother. If you ask a question they look at you upset. Those Ladies should be talked to or change their attitud. read more

They have a ton of stuff for a great price....but my experience was worthy of a 2 star. Seriously, only go to this place in the morning or something because at night it is insane. And the employees are really really bad. We stood in line for 15 minutes (not exaggerating)...we're 3 from the register and the girl puts up her closed sign and another girl in the next register opens (without pulling anyone from our line over). All of a sudden there's 10 people in the new line and the girl we'd been in line for just looks at us and walks away. Absolutely horrible. Oh, then the original girl comes back 5 minutes later (while we're STILL in line at the new register) and random people just walk right up to be checked out. It's an okay store for bargain hunters. This place has discontinued Costco products, including clothes, holiday items and gift baskets, food, and even electronics. There are also coupons on their website. I have to give this place 2 stars since it doesn't have the best atmosphere (think Big Lots and Walmart.) Some of the workers can be anal about the coupons. And lastly, this place needs some air fresheners... it smells like sweaty socks and death. A BIG reason I cannot give this place anything higher than 2 stars is that an elderly female worker with really red hair was very rude. She was my cashier and was extremely disorganized and took over 5 minutes to scan 2-3 items (that all had price tags on them.) She seemed to really hate her job, or just plain hates customers. She kept going back and forth through her binder, threw down the jackets I had to one side, then went back to her binder, looked at the price tags, went back to her folder, then finally she typed in the price. She seemed like she did not want to give me the discount even though it was a coupon from GTM website. Someone please train her to be an organized, effective, and courteous cashier. I like GTM. I really do. I used to go to the one in Lemon Grove until I realized the Santee location existed...this one is in a better part of town, has much easier parking, and there's many other stores nearby (Kohl's, Lowe's, Costco, Home Depot, etc.) that makes for an efficient outing running errands. But for some reason I'm not drawn to it as much as I used to be...not sure why. I really like some of the deals, but need to go through a lot of junk to find the good stuff. I love a good deal like anyone else, but my time is valuable, too. read more

PROS- close to home carry a lot of organic products costco sales. kirkland CHEAP!!!!! i love this store i come here for all my everyday stuff, and some. Almost all kirkland items are sold at half the cost plus use the coupon. i love the fact that you can show the coupon on your phone and not waste paper. i have been coming to this store since it was still in downtown san diego early 90's. sometimes its a bit messy but its half the fun finding good deals. i just got trader joes almond butter for 1.79. i couldnt believe it. as a baker i am always looking for good deals on flour i love the fact they carry bobs red mill. their glutten free brownie mix is the best and i get it at 1/3 of the cost. read more

Why buy anything at full price?!?! My friend introduced to me to this store just yesterday and I am already planning a trip back next week! It's amazing! Name brand clothes for a fraction of their original price, all brand new! The food selection appears hit or miss but they have the most amazing home accessories and supplies! I found the exact lamp I'd been looking into buying at other stores, but at half the price! The cheapest I'd seen it at Costco was for $80 and even more expensive at places like Lamps Plus. Needless to say I was thrilled! That was $40 well spent. The leather couches were rather impressive too! I may just end up shopping here to redecorate my whole living room! read more

We have been loyal customers of GTM for 30+ years and have appreciated all the "good deals" we have found there. For years we have worked with a group (Operation Christmas Child) that supply Christmas boxes not only here in the US but all across the world to children suffering from war, poverty, famine, disease and natural disasters. Last year, OCC distributed over 11 million shoe box gifts to children in more than 100 countries on six continents. Since 1993, they have distributed over 157 million shoe box gifts! Throughout the year we look for items to put in the boxes. Last week, we were in GTM for another item and saw that they had children's flip flops on sale for 4 for a $1. We bought a couple hundred at that time. We also asked the manager, Nathan Genovese, if we could buy even bigger quantities at the sale price. He assured us that we could and that they would go through and box up these additional quantities for us. We than set up to purchase another 400 and they again, came through. We then asked for another 2700 and they are again, helping us out. OCC not only fills these Christmas boxes with necessities, but school items and toys. Nathan has been extremely helpful through all of this and is going to be working with us for some of the other items that could be used. He has gone way over what he is required to do as manager and shows the immense heart he has for helping children. read more

I like GTM, I do, but is it my fav store? No. Does it have everything? No. But... Does it have discounts? yes! Does it have things from Costco marked down? Yes! Does it have unique things? Yes! I like to go to GTM for snacks and bars, they have a bar that would normally be $.99 for $.69 or lower. They have random snacks and chips that are good to try that you haven't seen before Items that get messed up at Costco come here band get a lower price tag...so a cereal box that's broken or a granola bar box that's smashed in, also clothes that are out of season or just need to leave Costco come here. GTM get shipments in daily so always expect new things and never expect for the same things every visit. The prices are LOW! It gets pretty busy so get ready for a large crowd. Also there is a weird odor when you walk into GTM, you get used to it after a few visits. I will go back and do enjoy going there read more

I used to shop here all the time when I lived in s.cali and I'd drive from Riverside to go here. And I'd save a bundle. I was just here for a visit recently.... Costco surplus... almost everything Kirkland, and everything in bulk that you could find at Costco, it's most likely here. There's a bit of everything--furniture, clothing, food, electronics, kitchenware, toys, etc. Buyer beware. If you don't know what you're buying, then check out the item before you buy it. I was in the store at opening. I roamed the aisles as I always do gathering items. When checking out, there was quite a line. Because I had less then 10 items, I went to the counter checkout. Poor Debbie was checking out, answering the phone and doing returns. I totally admired her as she kept her cool in spite of less then friendly people. This place is what I call Costco's grave. I'm a frequent shopper at Costco so I love it. Expired foods galore. This is inexcusable, especially when it comes to dairy products and other items that can make customers sick. The day is coming when your GREED results in legal action. They used to have great candy in the checkout aisles. Read the packaging and you will discover that you are buying food from CHINA! Why do we need to support that country? In conclusion pay a little more at Costco, knowing that your item isn't expired, or broken in the package-another common problem here. A nice alternative for shopaholics is the Santee swapmeet. read more

Yes, GTM is just like Big Lots, but just a little cheaper prices. They have really expanded a lot over the past few years and still keep a fairly decent amount of good quality products. Some are just like what you would find in the dollar store or $.99 stores, others are more in line with Big lots. Customer service is a little weak. Maybe it's new employees because they're not sure where items are located. This has happened to me at least 4 times with 4 different employees over the past several months. But, if you keep your cart moving up and down isle by isle, you will eventually find what you came in to get. Expanded the size of the store which has also taken over most of the parking lot, which is a good thing. Only thing I would suggest is to add a few more handicap spots. There are so many things wrong with all of the four GTM stores; 1) There is no universal pricing scheme, no Universal Product Code (UPC Bar Code) to scan for predetermined pricing. Often when items are not price-tagged, a worker will make up a price on a whim. 2) Much of the merchandise is expired, damaged, returned, or very near the expiration date; shoppers might buy eatables or food that is stale or moldy or smells of mildew and must be returned or thrown away. 3) There is no certainty the product will be available again because the products are discontinued or not available again because they are one-of-a-kind products. So don't expect to shop for essentials on a regular basis. 4) The merchandise is disorderly and there is little rhyme or reason as to the location of the item. If you can't find it, it is probably because the store either doesn't have a space for it and is located in an obscure area or doesn't have it at all. 5) There is no "Planogram" designed to allocate space for items--everything is random--and you could search hours for an item with nothing to show! So, unless you have all day and plan on spending hours looking for an item, your time would be better spent going to a real store where they regularly stock an item, and you will save hours and might just pay less than at GTM Stores. Good luck, because you'll need it trying to find that necessary item! read more

Came in right before closing time. Had an employee rudely telling my wife and I that they were closed and that we needed to exit the store and using hand gestures. There were more customers around and I didn't see her making the same demands to them. I understand that she might had a long day and she wants to go home but she could of been polite about it. This place is a hidden gem of San Diego! My first stop for most home good needs - rugs, furniture, lamps. A go-to for pantry staples (pasta from Italy, or fun GF pastas, rice, canned goods) and fun healthy crackers and snacks. I come here to find fun gifts for friends (candles salt lamps are my latest favorite), and have found unbeatable deals in the clothing department (Adidas often, sometimes Patagonia, Free People, Birkenstock), and I always find fun products in their perfume and personal care sections. I have been shopping at this GTM since they opened! Yes there prices aren't that lower from Costco's, but with their coupons you can get some fantastic deals. Well, not today! Costco had this great student desk I missed out on. By the time I was able to get a day off and have an empty car ( no car seats) to get it they were sold out. Costco looked up every store in San Diego, and no luck. They even told me they had marked them down from $99 to $50! When I saw the same desk at GTM today I was sooo excited! Until I saw the price! $239!?!? What!? No way! The cost of this display unit had to be no more than $20. I forget the name of the associate who helped me. Older man with a ponytail beard. I asked if they would sell it to me for $99 even though it had a few dings and the glass was scratched. He was so rude! Told me if I wanted a lower price to apply a coupon. Now, I usually don't try and haggle over a price tag, however, this was a huge price bump. I was also going to be purchasing a patio set as well; he didn't care. I fully understand how a business is able to operate based on COS but this was way to much. Especially with the rudeness for lack of better terms of this GTM associate. read more

First time coming here and it was like a treasure hunt! Definitely a gem. They had so many costco stuff but for cheaper prices. Remember to get coupons from their website. My husband have been eyeing this air conditioner that was on sale at costco for 350 but when we saw GTM having the overstocked items from costco and saw the ac that we need at a CHEAPER price with a 20% discount ON TOP of that it was definitely hard to pass up. So happppy!!!! The only thing I would suggest is if they clean up their look a bit and not make it look so "99cent -ish/thrift store) looking.. it was kind of a turn off when entering. read more

Pros: The prices are pretty tough to beat on so many items and the stock is rotated so often, that it's really worth checking in on a weekly basis. We get a lot of lighting and bathroom vent fans and bath accessories like towel bars and such from their home section in the back left area of the store. Always check on their website for their weekly discount as sometimes it can be a pretty good discount if you need a more $$$ item. Cons: Sadly, the workers there are grumpy much of the time. I am surprised at how many of the workers there treat the customers. Price, selection, service...All three denotes an excellent business...pick any 2 usually denotes a decent business model. I love GTM - most of their clothing and shoe items are from Costco. I found some pants that I really loved from Costco there and scored two pair at a really good price. Sure the store aisles are narrow, there are tons of people there but I figure they're all there to get good deals just as I am so I'm just patient trying to get out of there. Yesterday I scored really well on clothes soap and some heavy work shirts for the hubby so if I have to deal with some rude cashiers, I really don't care! Plus used my coupons - SCORE!!!! read more

Deals are great there, but you have to check for major defects, missing items etc. Don't understand why they sell items that are missing things at the same prices. A 10pc food storage set is $16.00, yet the same one that is missing 2 pieces is still $16.00?? Customer service is soooo bad at the Santee location. Employees on the floor have such bad, grouchy attitudes. Geez, didn't everyone just get a $2.00 raise? Went there 2 days this week, the second day was to pick up my order and sure enough, same bad, grouchy attitude. No willingness to help, just bad attitude coming out of a stink face. read more
