You can go inside to use the restroom, but seating is outside only (just 2 tables available). While I was there, they did allow someone to sit inside, but I'm not sure why they got special treatment. We had missed breakfast since we couldn't figure out what time it ended, so we ordered from the lunch menu instead. We ended up getting a Buffalo Burger on Frybread w/ cheese and green chile (really good! I thoroughly enjoyed eating this. It was my first time eating frybread and I would definitely get it again. Only complaint was that the buffalo seemed to be wasted since we couldn't taste it at all). We also got Zucchini Fingers (super good as well! It had a really nice texture and flavor to it) and a Chokecherry Lemonade (I had to go and ask for more chokecherry syrup because you couldn't taste it at all at first. It gave a nice flavor, but it wasn't anything special). Zucchini Fingers win as the fave food from here, but the burger was a close second! Fry bread cheese burger and fries. Delicious and filling. No ambiance. It's a drive through. However it is outside the beautiful World Heritage Taos Pueblo and on the reservation. In September after a wonderful experience visiting the Taos Pueblo, my son suggested to stop at Tiwa Kitchen for something to eat. The place is very simple with only drive through service and from a window to order your food. They only have two tables on the porch. The menu is very limited. My son ordered a Frybread Pizza, made with the traditional Indian bread from the Southwest Indian tribes. He really enjoyed it. My wife and I just had beverages. At noon when we visited, we were the only ones there. The place is attended by two young women from the Pueblo. It is only open weekdays until 2 pm. The place has so much potential if they would put together a business plan. By that I mean, better signage to attract visitors to the Taos Pueblo, because it's difficult to see as you drive to the Pueblo; more tables for people to sit; train the ladies with customer service to be as good as the Pueblo guides. When you purchase your visitors tickets, they can promote Tiwa Kitchen with a flyer with a discount. read more

Other comments describe the current window + outside tables situation, so read those to know the procedure. Red chile stew had a nice savory flavor, though not as bitter as I'd prefer. Meat was tender but it didn't come out entirely hot. The stew comes with a piece of outdoor oven bread, and it was nice to be able to try some without having to buy one of the whole loaves like they sell in the pueblo. food here is made fresh to order, and even something simple like the grilled chicken sandwich was super satisfying and delicious. gotta admit, this was a classic situation of ordering the wrong thing off the menu. i thought it'd be getting something on fry bread, like the other options like it, like the bison burger, but alas... the bread was still good though, and this was a nice spot outside the pueblo check-in to eat and watch the thunderstorm that rolled in quickly. read more

Highly recommend this place for authentic Native American food! It is drive-thru only right now and the lady was very nice. We took it to the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge for a terrific picnic lunch and view. The fry bread burger was delicious and the blue corn taco with bison was amazing. The taco took up the entire plate and had a wonderfully subtle green chile sauce. The fries were chunky and perfect. We topped it off with the unique and yummy chokecherry lemonade. This has defiantly been our food highlight of New Mexico! Just outside of the Red Willow Pueblo sits Tiwa Kitchen. It can be easy to miss, so go slow. It was more of an off peak time, which just meant we were taken care of very quickly. I saw a former review that mentions that the restaurant is bare and lacking "ambiance". It's a small restaurant, with authentic Native American food cooked by members of the local tribe. I'm unsure what your looking for in a place like this, but we were content with the mountains in the background. I was extremely happy to see that they had chokeberry lemonade as well as chokeberry iced tea. I would probably get the iced tea on my next visit, as the lemonade was Minute Maid with the addition of chokeberry syrup. It was still very good, just a little sweeter than homemade. Everyone in our group wanted burgers! Everyone ordered blue corn fry bread buffalo burgers, I opted for a regular beef on plain fry bread. All of our meals came with fries. We were all very pleased with our meals. The burgers had great flavor and paired great with the cheese, as well as the airy fry bread. They came with classic green chili as well which was very spicy! The staff was so sweet and homey. They answered all the questions we had about the food, as well as questions about their tribe. I honestly wanted to cry, because I won't be able to have Tiwas when we get back home to TX. If your visiting the Pueblo, make it a point to eat here. If the Pueblo is closed, you can still eat here. If your staying in Taos, I highly suggest driving the two miles to get to the Pueblo. This is food you won't be able to get in town, and food you likely won't eat anywhere else! read more

After a visit to the Taos Pueblo, we decided to stop here for lunch. FOOD: We ordered the fry bed and fried squash. They were served with honey and the Chokeberry syrup. The squash with Ranch dressing. There were two very different types of fried bread--one, a blue corn ( which was delicious and chewy) and the other more like a sopapilla--better suited to dessert with the chokecherry syrup. We split an order of stuffed fry bread with ground beef, beans and an interesting rice. They were all excellent, but be prepared, this is not Minute rice! ATMOSPHERE: Please understand, this is an adobe building, just off the Taos Pueblo. If you want spotless and slick--go to Applebee's and miss out on a great experience. SERVICE: The service was excellent and our server was super friendly and took the time to explain all the food. Ok, well we've been to New Mexico many of times but never have we traveled to Taos... until !more! And was I on for a year. We had heard about this place called Tiwa Kitchen and if you drive too fast you'll miss it. True that. It's a native-family owned kitchen and the family could not be more delightful. Now, the food. Absolutely thee best I've tasted. That rich but flavor of the blue corn with the spicy, smoky taste of the red chili. Delicious. Honestly, this is one of the best restaurants I've been to in a while. It was so good for lunch that I came back the next day for breakfast. The menu was totally different but they delivered completely on both meals. For lunch, I ate grilled buffalo meat. It was excellent, full of juiciness, succulent. I had some of my mom's Phien-tye, a frybread stuffed with ground buffalo meat. It was also excellent! The blue corn frybread was deliciously prepared as well and was surprisingly un-oily, a major bonus for me. For breakfast, I had the blue corn pancakes. They were absolutely delicious! The chokecherry syrup was also great, and I enjoyed the pancakes both with and without it. I ordered buffalo sausage, and I have to say that it was some of the best sausage patty I've ever had. The buffalo meat has so much flavor in it! I also had a chance to try the stew, which was so flavorful! I only wish that my stomach were larger so that I could eat another meal of theirs immediately after. Also, you need to try their tea. Just do it. It's amazing! As a side note, my parents and I couldn't help admiring the red willow baskets on display in the restaurant. We asked Debbie Sandoval, the chef, and she told us that she had made them. A favorite of ours. We had lots of great meals in NM, from Albuquerque to Santa Fe, to Taos and points in between. There were some real standouts, but one Tiwa Kitchen was top of the heap.
