GJ Market is a set in small business building near the 101 via Borregas, you can get just about any Mexican/Hispanic food staple here. Prices are competitive and they have imported/specialty alcohols like tequila and some american beers too. Meat department is legit and have fish and standards: like carne asada and chicken meats. Lots of snacks, chips and sugar bread stuff too. Sorry don't know the names of em, but their like these rounds with coconut and orange and red and seem delicious! We only picked out a stable: American wagyu. The meat looked pretty good with marble through out. Surprisingly when put in hot pot it shrinks into a wrinkly ball and also turned black. I have never seen a meat like that (also we only buy hot pot meat at Nijya and their quality is great). Taste wise the meat was quite tough and stringy and has a gamy metallic after taste. In the pictures the kighter hotpot meat is from costco and the black ones is from Meat House. Costco one tasted much better. At this point im not even upset about the money spent just upset that our hot pot night was kind of ruined. Service is ok. Kind of straight forward. You picked the meat and pay and leave. I often get the American Wagyu Chuck Roll and New Zealand Lamb Shoulder--both are essential for the perfect hot pot experience. It's like a cross between a western style bbq joint and a middle eastern twist with its meats and food. Turns out, this place is mainly an Afghan restaurant! It's half eatery half a butcher shop for people to come and purchase fresh meats for some home cooking. In fact, I watched a lot of people coming in and ordering meats to go. I ordered their chili lamb kabob which was tender and juicy. It had lots of flavor from the spices but enough to where it wasn't overwhelming. I ordered it on top of a pillow of rice which was fluffy and buttery textured. It was delicious. There are sauce bottles to pair with the meats which is my favorite part. I really liked their white creamy yogurt sauce mixed with their red house chili sauce. It gave my lamb meat so much flavor and some heat. I loved my order and will definitely order two next time. I also want to try their steaks. They take their time grilling their meats so orders can take a short while. It's worth it for sure. No complaints here but I do wish they played some light music in the background for some ambiance. Things can be real quiet in here so it can be awkward dining in. Other than that, I really like this place and will be back for more.

I mentioned before the rice has a scent and flavor beyond jasmine or basmati. The French fries are crisp & fresh. The flat bread is tender. The menu has expanded and is more flexible. They have a great selection of meats and some excellent sandwiches. My favorite is the tri-tip - absolutely out of this world. One recommendation: ask for light sauce so you can really enjoy the flavor of the meat they prepare so carefully. The entire team is awesome. The guys cooking the meat and everyone behind the counter are friendly, welcoming, and genuinely enjoy what they do. The atmosphere reminds me of In-N-Out Burger - great customer service, but with a local, hometown feel. They really make an effort to keep every customer happy, and that goes a long way. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for quality meats, delicious sandwiches, and outstanding service. I'll definitely keep coming back!

On my most recent visit we called ahead and ordered two sandwiches for pickup. We were told it would be 15 minutes, so glad we called! We got a Crazy Turkey and super hero for two of us to share. The sandwiches were massive, and one probably would've been enough for us to share had we eaten a normal sized breakfast. The super hero was the clear standout for both of us. It was super flavorful and suacy and meaty, it was perfect. The Crazy Turkey was good, but when compared to the super hero it just wasn't that flavorful. We asked for the jalapenos from the Crazy Turkey on the side and unfortunately they were missing. We also saw online that sandwiches came with pickles and there weren't any in the bag, not sure if they weren't included or if the website just wasn't updated. Definitely will be back here for the super hero and to try some of the other sandwiches too.

This one was disappointing enough to feel worth documenting. My boyfriend and I ended up here after attempting to go to Treehouse nearby (which had an hour wait--unsurprising given the concept). This restaurant was a short walk away, which actually worked out well given how congested the area was, and we walked in optimistic. The space itself is very large, but nearly empty for a weekday evening. It felt family-owned and casual, which I usually love--many of my favorite restaurants fall into that category. Unfortunately, the experience didn't reflect that warmth. We were given a different menu than other diners, which immediately felt odd. Service wasn't overtly rude, but it was noticeably unwelcoming--almost a "why are you here?" tone rather than hospitality. We ordered hummus and feta, both of which were surprisingly expensive for the portion and quality. We were told bread would arrive automatically with the hummus, but it didn't--despite asking multiple times. When it finally arrived, it was poorly cooked and no longer served any purpose, as we were already well into the meal. Despite the restaurant being far from busy, our mains took about 30 minutes. One dish--a kebab--was fine but very forgettable for a $30+ price point. My dish, dumplings in a yogurt-based sauce, was honestly inedible. I left it untouched and mentioned that it didn't taste good. The response was simply, "Oh, so you don't want a box?" No attempt to fix the issue or even acknowledge it. What sealed it for me was the overall condition of the place. Dirty cutlery, a generally rundown interior, and a lack of attention to cleanliness made it uncomfortable to eat there. I'm not picky about ambiance when the food and service deliver--but here, nothing quite worked together. The whole experience felt very turn-and-burn, as if the restaurant relies on proximity to a popular area rather than repeat customers. I left feeling like unless you're part of a specific in-crowd, this isn't a place that's trying very hard to win you over. Personally, I wouldn't return, and I wouldn't recommend it--especially given the pricing and the many better options nearby.

The atmosphere is impressive enough to make you want to some money. Judging by how packed the restaurant was, nobody else seemed worried either. They must be doing something right. Food always tastes even better when someone else picks up the bill. My only disappointment was the restroom. For a restaurant at this price point, I expected a little more luxury.
