We had Guaranteed Home Improvement come to our home to clean our chimney and wood stove flue. They did a wonderful job on that, but unfortunately something go broken on the wood stove in the process. I immediately got a call from someone at Guaranteed who apologized and offered to pay for the repair. They followed through on that and the wood stove is as good as new. As a customer of Petro many years now,they in recent years started to suggest Guaranteed to inspect our chimney for free I initially said no as several years ago they wouldnt leave me alone ,calling every week for a year...This time i had them over...the guys were pleasant enough,showed me pic but knew i was fairly knowledgable and asked specific questions on materials and procedure...i got vague answers...specifically the gauge of the liner used...He did not know...RED FLAG with me!....He still wanted to perform a reline,obviously with the one unknown material already in their truck...Pictures were taken and shown to me and and he left the venting pipe off the wall thinking id bite on the job ,i didnt.....Low and behold the pics promised to my email never arrived( checking mail and spam)...I will never make a rash decision on a job with question marks still remaining...Also i was show pics of their masonry work and pointing....wasnt impressed! read more

They did not write a contract for her, but said a crew would be there the following morning. Not acceptable. They used high pressure sales tactics to scare the sh*t out of my disabled and elderly father to get a chimney liner. There was no emergency. A different employee raised his voice at me when it was time for my father to pay and he was AWOL for only a minute. they got paid a lot of money for only an hour of work, but couldnt be bothered to phonecall him. Sleazy business practices. Recommended by my home heating oil firm. They did the inspection. Met the guy outside who showed me a picture of inside the chimney and claimed it needed a new flue. I asked him about risks etc and whether it could be delayed. I asked how much it would cost. He said 2500 or so.I told him to send me the pics and I would decide later. I didn't agree to any work, didn't sign anything and left to do some errands. My intention was to check in with my contractor too see if this was legit or a scam and get a competing quote or two. I came back an hour later and saw a worker on the roof pushing a new flue pipe into the chimney!!!!! I demanded they immediately stop and reverse the work which they did. They totally tried to railroad this. No paperwork....No waivers....no idea if they were insured to be on my roof.....horrendous. For all I know they could have damaged the chimney or the burner Would good 0 stars if it was an option read more

This company is fantastic. I had a window of 1pm-6pm for them to come and check out our chimney. They called prior to coming, said they'd be at my home in 40 min and showed up exactly then. They found that our fireplace chimney needed to be cleaned and showed us our boiler chimney liner, which was in horrible shape. Both chimneys needed work, but the boiler chimney was urgent. I have been a customer of Petro Oil and its predecessor (Love/Effron) for over 40 years.   When I signed up for my annual oil contract this year, Petro offered me a free chimney inspection.  I accepted the offer and scheduled it with a company called Guaranteed.  They came as scheduled, did an inspection at both the boiler pipe and the roof.   They told me my chimney tile and mortar joints were deteriorating, it was dangerous in its current condition and that I needed a steel pipe insert.  They said they could do the work immediate with a back-up truck that was following them.  They began the cost estimate by showing me an on-line nation-wide cost estimating calculator and then gave me a "customized estimate", verbally not written.  When I told them that I was not going to sign up for the work w/o a second opinion, I was offered a $200 - $300 cost savings. I called Petro after the encounter, the office person told me about her personal experience with chimney inserts and I asked to speak to a technician.  The technician called me the same day, said he stood behind Guarantees as a reliable company and also recommended a second opinion.  I then called a local company who has been doing chimney cleaning and repair for 3 generations.  They cleaned my chimney and told me the chimney was in good shape and did not need an insert and that the draft in the chimney was excellent.  He did adjust the damper which was not opening fully. read more

Get another estimate before hiring this company! I had 2 other estimates before they came. The quoted me a price more than double both other estimates from highly rated companies. When I told them I could get the same job done for less than half the price, they asked me how much I was quoted. They claimed the other company would ask for more money once they started the job. I told them that was not going to be the case, the price was for a complete job. They them agreed to do it for the same price I was quoted by the other company, which was less than half of what they originally asked for. Unbelievable! They called me after a few months had passed and offered another free inspection. After the inspection the called me multiple times trying to get me to service my chimney with them. The only reason I allowed them back in for a second inspection is they claim to have been contracted by my oil company for free inspections. I had my boiler tuned up by my oil company and was told I needed my chimney cleaned. I was given the name of Guaranteed Home Improvement. When I called I was given an appointment 6 weeks away from when I called but didn't worry since they were recommended by my oil company which I had been with for years. I receive a call the evening before they are supposed to come saying that because they are doing only emergency work and they can reschedule me for March. So I decide to find another place so I don't become one of those emergencies.
