He was very pleasant to deal with and down to earth, the whole team was. I had spoken to the owner Matt about a few concerns I had, all of them were taken care of and I now have my new roof. I have a 20 year old roof. The representative came to the house. Looked at the at the roof, left the sample book. they sent a true estimate. Meaning, it had a low number and high number based on the 'health' of the roof. The office called two days before they showed up. Well, long story and a full day...lots of wood replaced, roofing product excellent, team was thoughtful, clean and fast. I LOVE MY ROOF!!! They cleaned up wonderfully. Don't hire this company. Their roofing workers caused damage to the ceiling of our co-op unit in Roslyn Gardens. They sent a gentleman over from the company to look at the damage and he made liability admissions in front of my husband and me. We were informed from management today that the roofing company will not cover the repairs for the damage that they caused. Additionally, the roofing workers were careless and lunging materials off of the roof and left unsecured materials on the roof over night. Some of the workers were not wearing hard hats. read more

Due to the pandemic, since I live in Queens, Matt contacted me personally to inform me that we would have to wait till NYC opens Phase 1. Within a week, the date was scheduled and the job was completed in 2 1/2 hours including clean-up. Stewart is the foreman on the job and all the men worked very strategically under his guidance. Did lot of research and took tons of estimates before deciding on Preferred both from product selection perspective and estimate. Turns out that is the best decision that made Matt and his entire team finish with flawless execution from start to finish. Shingles and the home look completely fresh and elevated the look and feel tremendously. Came by same day and sent the estimates with clear and concise details making sure they explain even the smallest of the details that are required by the owners. Roofing is not something you do every once in 5 years... glad i made the right decision with Preferred and GAF. I have taken estimates from other independent roofers and gaf elite roofers too, but i would suggest Preferred against any of the other roofers in this area for the price. Previous owner had roof work done before we bought the house but work was average at best. There were nail heads all throughout the roof that caused leaking. We knew that the roof needed to be replaced before the winter time (roof was done in late Sept). We must have called 15 contractors for estimates. Matt from Preferred was the most honest and knowledgeable of all the contractors we've called. Roofing is not something that I'm familiar with but is an important part of any home. Matt made sure we knew everything there was to know about having a roof in outstanding condition. He was very prompt with his responses via phone and email. On the day of the job, the workers arrived on time and it seemed that they knew what was needed to be done right the first time. The best way to describe the team was a well oiled machine. The manager on site walked me through the whole process and assured me everything was going to be ok and it was. The best part of the job was not only the work itself but the price was fair compared to others who didn't used GAF materials. We had a few estimates for the Owens Corning roof system which seems expensive and the sales staff was overselling me. I can't praise this company enough. A rare business in a world of contractors who seem to think the only business model that will work for them is to rip off the customer. Especially if you are female. I own my house and deal with a lot of repair people. And when they talk to me if I am alone, and when they talk to me if I have my male friend standing next to me, it can be a whole other story. I checked out a number of companies and got some bids from several of them. My father was a building contractor so I knew where the price range should be. And Preferred Exterior Roofing was right in the range where it should have been. As opposed to some companies who were going to charge me twice as much, thinking that I would fall for that! (One of them actually said, when I was asking some questions about the extent of the job, "Don't worry little lady, we'll take care of everything." Yeah, right. - He was also the one who gave me a quote of $32,000!!! Really.) When Matt came from Preferred Exterior he was respectful, clear, and answered all my questions with full explanations and descriptions of what would be needed and not needed. Preferred Exterior is honest, fair, extraordinarily competent in execution, friendly, and has total integrity in all its dealings and communication with the client. It is truly an extraordinary company. They replaced my house and garage roofs. Removed cedar shakes, put all new decking down, then GAF system roofing. They needed to replace some fascia, but some of it was ok and they told me it didn't need replacing, thus saving me money by not having unnecessary work done. This is the kind of honesty and fair dealing you get from them. Worksite foreman was great. Explained and reassured when necessary. Took two days to complete the job. Clean up was immaculate at the end of both days. The roof is beautiful and when my architect brother visited and looked at it he commented on how professionally and correctly done it was.
