We called this company for a chimney inspection for a home we just purchased thinking they were going to tell us that it indeed needed cleaning and maybe some other problem. When Mike and his crew arrived they performed their inspection but didnt get far, a previous owner had placed a turbine at the top of the chimney (the damper had been removed during that time, we assume) and it was cemented in. Mike suggested that as long as we dont use the chimney excessively the chimney cleaning could wait since it would have been a $600+ job to remove and redo the top section just to clean it. We went downstairs to check the boiler's connection to the chimney and Mike was disgusted that our home inspector didnt write up the lose exhaust that moved away from the wall without much effort at all. He proceeded to explain to us in detail about the safety hazards, what liners were previously used and why stainless steel liners are now the norm. He stuck his hand inside the wall and pulled out large chunks of the old clay liner and told us that it was important to have this fixed asap to avoid problems. Mike stressed that it was so important that it didnt matter which company we chose for the repairs, we should not go longer without this work done. We decided to just go with Guaranteed Home Improvement for this work and are glad that we did, even including the chimney sweep and removing the turbine and reinstalling a new damper! Mike and his team were very respectful, very professional and above all very patient with all of our questions. They even made sure to light a fire with some firewood we had stored away to make sure all was working accordingly. I just want to say a huge thank you to Mike and his crew! Used their chimney service and they were fantastic. Long story short I discovered that my chimney liner had collapsed and it along with the debris had almost complelety blocked the ventilation for the water heater and oil burner... which between the possiblity of carbon monoxide poisoning and back flash made for a very dangerous situation. I got an immediate response, then Vladimir and Doug came to install the new liner and do the repairs. It was a tremendous job, taking 2 1/2 hours but they laid down drop cloths everywhere and worked meticulously. Very grateful for their excellent work. read more

Guaranteed Home Improvement should change their name to '' NO GUARANTEED HOME IMPROVEMENTS''. recently paid for chimney work at the cost $2,000.00 and still have the same water problem every time it rains. Since the job was completed this chimney co has been back several times. Today I was told to call a company that does gutters because the gutter is up against the chimney brick wall and they refused to remove it to check behind it. Then why are they going by the name Guaranteed Home Improvement. I did not receive a home improvement, to me this is false advertisement using that name. Very disappointed . read more

We used Guaranteed for a chimney inspection and cleaning five years ago. At that time they took pictures of my liner showing me that the tiles were starting to crack, which could cause problems in the future. They did not push me at that time to get a new liner, but they did give me a quote. Mike from Guaranteed came over for an inspection and cleaning today and upon inspection he was against doing the cleaning in fear that it would cause damage as the tile had gotten worse. He took pictures in front of my eyes proving that they were not pictures of somebody else's chimney and he even compared and contrasted those new pictures to the pictures from five years earlier. It was reassuring having proof, which is more than can be said for other deceiving chimney companies out there. Not only did I appreciate the transparency and honesty, but Mike also worked with me on the price and was able to send a crew over only two hours later preventing me from taking a day off from work. I wish I had checked this company out first. Like Robert S., my oil company came a few weeks ago to do the annual tune-up and the draft reading was low so they recommended Guaranteed. They came today, made a mess of my basement where the boiler is, and told me that I needed a new chimney liner to the tune of $3000. We contacted Guaranteed at the recommendation of Petro. Our UWS townhouse is over 125 years old. My oil company came late May 2017 to do my annual tune up. Everything went well except my Chimney's draft which tested low... .01, when it should be .04-.06. They recommended I call this company to come test my chimneys draft. I scheduled an appointment and their guy Mike came on June 23rd. Mike asked me a few questions and I admitted to him that I knew absolutely nothing about chimneys or the service history of my chimney. ( I bought the house a year ago). He told me I needed to change my liner and that it cost $2000. I told him to give me a estimate and I'll get back to him. He insisted that I needed to do the work and wanted to call his office to see if he could get a better price for me. Lucky for me I only use my oil burner for heat. If I used it for my hot water, I might have been more in a rush to resolve the issue, and Mike was insisting that I needed to get it done. According to Mike, I had a 5.5 inch liner and I needed a 6 inch chimney liner to resolve my problem with the draft. Mike left without doing the work, but he did email me a estimate for $2600, so much for a better price. The next day my neighbor, who also happens to be a home inspector,came over to give me his opinion. According to him, nothing was wrong with the liner, however, I needed to change the connection from the burner to the chimney. I took his advice, called a different company and had the connection changed. That company, Fred's Chimney Magic, also agreed that there was no need to change the liner. We changed the connection and poof the draft got better! My bill $289. He recommended I call my oil company and have them use their equipment to test my draft. They came yesterday and the result was .04, exactly where I'm suppose to be. Moral of the story, do not trust this company. I cannot believe how many times I've tried to been robbed since becoming a home owner a little over a year ago. This company adds to that list. read more
