Please be aware: I trusted this clinic with my dog's care, and that trust was broken in a very serious way. I brought my French Bulldog, Winston, in for a simple influenza vaccine -- a routine visit. Instead, he was given the Leptospirosis vaccine, which is clearly flagged in his medical record as something he should never receive due to a prior severe allergic reaction. This was not a small oversight or a misunderstanding -- it was a serious mistake that could have had devastating consequences. They administered the vaccine and only informed me afterward. I was completely shocked and heartbroken that such a critical detail in his medical history was ignored. The veterinarian's response was disappointing, repeatedly referring to this as "an accident." I live with anxiety and PTSD, and this entire situation was extremely triggering as I tried to stay calm and advocate for my dog in the middle of what felt like a preventable emergency. I will be filing a formal complaint with the Oregon Veterinary Medical Board because this kind of mistake should never happen. Our pets rely on us to keep them safe, and I trusted this team to do that. I'm sharing this to help other pet parents make informed decisions. If you do choose to visit this clinic, please double-check everything for your own peace of mind. The vet tech who administered the vaccine was Emily. I personally can not say enough wonderful things about Dr. Roth and Dr. Gerard who run this vet hospital. As someone who runs a cat rescue having a knowledgeable Vet is key. We also need a Vet who knows the difference between personal pet medicine and rescue/shelter medicine which they both do. They both have amazing bedside manner, are dedicated, compassionate and just overall rock stars. Their staff is also amazing and filled with caring people. For the last year or so our rescue as struggled to find a clinic/hospital that we could take our rescue animals to. I am picky and I know it but when cats come in to my rescue I want them to have the best of the best. We have tried several clinics and while a few were ok I had not found a solid primary day time vet. WELP that changed the minute I heard Guardian was opening. Both Dr. worked on a head trauma cat in our rescue during their time at Tanasbourne ER and let me just say they both impressed me very much. Since their clinic has opened I am fairly certain I have had appointments pretty close to daily. Personal and Rescue related. Everyone was treated with the utmost care. In my opinion Guardian is the best option for vet care in the area hands down. read more

They were quick to fit us in when other vets were booked solid for months. The place is new clean and easy to find. Perhaps because of it being new, the techs/assistants were scattered (forgot meds, didn't log procedures/bills) but the docs themselves are super personable and caring. Our senior dog was nearing end of life and Guardian Vet helped us get thru the tough times. When our doggy passed they were even thoughtful enough to call, check in and sent a thoughtful card to us. read more

Guardian killed our one year old dog. She was scheduled for a routine spaying and the tech talked my husband into performing an unnecessary pallet and nasal surgery. Her mouth and throat swelled shut and she suffocated within 24 hours. There was NO follow up from them after surgery and when we finally got a hold of them after being sent to voicemail the morning after the response was well, drainage from the nose is normal. They were never concerned about her post surgery status. Do not trust your dog with these people. They won't even reimburse us for the entire surgical/office amount. They demanded I wear a stupid mask, which is scientifically proven not to work. I get PTSD when forced to follow such non-scientifically proven demands. And I struggle with my nerves taking over and find it hard to breath. I will take my pet elsewhere. The receptionist told me every medical facility required masks. That's not true. I've been to three other veterinarian clinics over the last several months and none of the others required them. read more

I wanted so so so badly to Iike this place! It really makes me sad that I'm writing this. First (and last) visit was today. It takes me an hour and a half to get to this vet, so up front I let them know about my dog, issues, things I wanted addressed (clip the nails, squeeze the glans, dental checkup) AND I let them know what past experience had taught us about Ari's reactions to the vet, etc. He's a very special breed of dog, 3rd generation from his "natural" roots. His breed necessitates a vet trusting the information I impart and my requests for his care. Today, after a traumatic 90-minute car ride (he hates the car), the very first thing I get is a vet tech who comes into the exam room, introduces herself as a dog behaviorist, and said she was asked to evaluate my dog based on information I gave when I made the appointment. (Huh?) She was nice, although I don't think it was necessary for her to make note of Ari's reactions, his various signs of discomfort, etc. but whatever......I love talking about my dog so I let it go. THEN Dr. Roth comes in, never even took a seat and stood in the doorway the entire time. The FIRST THING SHE DID was lean over and pull Ari's lips back to look at his teeth - OF COURSE HE SNAPPED at her! Geez! Then she said she'd be back but that my son who was with me needed to be masked "since I'm leaving for Mexico in 2 days." TMI....don't care. She comes back maybe ten minutes later, says she'd have a vet tech give him his boosters, but that she REFUSED to discuss his nails, teeth, anal glans or anything else. She said "we'll see"...that if Ari let the dog "behaviorist" lift one of his paws, they'd try to clip the nail. I had TOLD them on the phone that wasn't going to happen, that any regular "health maintenance" issues couldn't be dealt with like he was a lab or retriever or a poodle. He's a Canaan Dog with a beautiful pedigree and spectacular lineage. His behavioral characteristics are a known quantity. I left there with a dog full of boosters, $200 poorer, and a sense of shame that I shouldn't have had to bear. Ari is normal, I am normal. To assume that he has behavioral issues (after my telephone intake when making the appointment) is just wrong. To mandate a 20-minute interview with a "dog behaviorist" before examining his is wrong. To refuse to do health maintenance on him as requested is wrong. I am very disheartened and have never had an experience like this with a vet before. I went to this clinic because I know these 2 vets came from Tanasbourne Emergency and I utterly adore Shawn Thomas and his clinic. I guess I'm glad Dr. Roth isn't with Tanasbourne anymore. In short, this is a great place to go if you have a masochistic desire to feel badly about how you care for your pets, and can afford to pay for what amounts to a dog counseling session. My pets are spoiled rotten and happy as heck with their lives. I take excellent care of them. I just wanted to find a vet who would do the same. read more

Just had our first visit to Guardian with Dr. Roth for my 3 month old rescue pup. I really can't say enough good things about them. They're a brand new practice but the 2 vets have been working together for years and started this practice together. Dr. Roth is incredibly nice, soft spoken and made me feel so comfortable at how positively and sweetly she handled my pup. The tech was the same. They were very knowledge and had their recommendations but also kept me in the drivers seat. I will be taking my special girl back to them 100%. read more

Our first appointment with Dr Roth occurred after our former vet (patients for over 13 years) had us wait for over an hour--never even came back to the room to tell us "we are running late". We called Guardian and had an appointment that afternoon--and we were seen almost immediately. We were amazed at the care and compassion every employee showed our senior dog. Fast forward to this week: it was decided to send our 13 year old dog to "puppy heaven". This decision was not made lightly-Dr Roth took the time to call us Sunday afternoon instead of waiting until Monday to give us the results of lab tests taken Saturday as action needed to taken as soon as possible. This clinic has a special room for 'saying goodbye' to your pets- soft furnishings and a comfy floor pillow to sit on, if you choose, with your beloved pet. When the time came, Dr Gerard actually sat on the floor with me and our dog and spoke softly to him--giving him cheese and steak treats. She continued to pet him and speak softly to him during the entire process. I saw tears in her eyes....this can not be easy for veterinarians as they witness owners and their pets separate..... Dr Gerard and Dr Roth ( and their staff- Gemma is amazing and great at returning calls to explain prescriptions etc) are simply the best veterinarians for your pets. This office makes you feel like your pet is the only one they will see that day....you never feel like you are being rushed through the appointment.
