It's an island on an island, stocked with a taste of home for many. There's loroco in jars, loroco frozen, baked goods, fresh avocados, many kinds of fresh quesos, masa, dried beans, guanabana drinks, candy, health food products / medication, lottery tickets and cigarettes. The store can help you wire money to loved ones far away and really seems to serve as a community hub in so many ways. I go every year for my pupusa fix. You'll want to call ahead for them since they make them to order and they take about 20 minutes. Or you can get them from the freezer case to make at home (about $10 for a four pack). I picked up a daily special of carne asada on a recent visit, which came with white rice; a whole pickled jalapeno; two thick, Salvadoran style tortillas; black beans; grilled scallions; and iceberg lettuce / tomato / cucumber / lime. The carne was reasonably tender, but definitely not something one should try to attack with a plastic knife and fork. It's the kind of place that makes me feel embarrassed that I speak Spanish on a Sesame Street level since everyone is a native speaker -- but folks are awfully nice nonetheless. Service runs on island time, or even a bit slower, but no one seems to get upset. This place is such a treasure.

I REALLY wanted some Dominican food this evening! I looked around on my way back from Newport RI,…read moreback to MA, and this place was open and it had decent ratings. When I arrived, there was a very sweet older lady at the counter who greeted me. I knew I wanted to get food to go so I was kind of in a rush due to being tired from the ride. I ordered chicken breast, yellow rice with beans and sweet plantains. The woman (the hunger in me did not allow me to ask what her name was) took my order and said that the chicken and plantains would take a few minutes because they had to be cooked. Which was ok with me; I did desire fresh food. The food was cooked in no time. The woman was so sweet because she didn't charge me extra when I changed my white rice to yellow rice - I did leave a nice tip though. Fast forward to when I got home to eat: the food was FREAKING AMAZING! And, it was plentiful! Enough for leftovers for tomorrow! If I could give 10 stars, I would have! It was probably some of the best Dominican food I'd ever had! I will be back! The physical place itself is basically no-frills but the food makes up for all of that! 5 stars!

When I couldn't decide on a cocktail, Sandra readily recommended the Grapefruit Martini -- it was delicious and totally the right call, Hubby's Tito's Cosmo was also well-made. For dinner, Hubby had the Chicken Parm - it was enormous and delicious, chicken was cooked well and the homemade pasta was a perfect al dente. The sauce was very good, but there was too much cheese for his taste, an easy fix to move to the side. There was plenty to take home for a second meal so it was an even better value. I chose the Spinach Salad, which was fresh and tasty with artichokes and goat cheese. Again, it was a generous portion for a very good price. We rarely indulge in dessert but we were convinced to try the homemade Tiramisu and it was amazing, just the way I make it myself. It's very hard to find a Tiramisu that is so authentic. We absolutely recommend Tumi, based on our experience it would be had to make a bad decision from their menu.

My dinner consisted of two appetizers - the grilled sweet corn and the lamb lollipops. Both were well-prepared and delicious. A pisco sour was also enjoyed with dinner! Dessert consisted of lucume ice cream and a 10yr port. Our server was knowledgeable and patient and also entertained with her humor. Although we were seated near the entrance, the atmosphere was relaxing and fun. Tumi was a great experience that we will repeat next time we are in Hyannis!
