First time at Guatepan and we're already planning our next visit! We tried the quetzalteco and antigueño breakfasts, and both were delicious. The flavors were authentic and satisfying - exactly what we were hoping for. The fresh fruit was perfectly ripe and sweet, and nothing beats a fresh pot of quality coffee to start the day. What really made our experience special was the warm, welcoming atmosphere. The people here genuinely care about their food and their customers, and it shows! Please have a sign saying that there is a minimum to pay with Credit Card. I drove 18 minutes for nothing since there is a "minimum". I explained to the lady working ( Sunday) but she didn't care and the person and charge either. Horrible I'm not recommending this place anymore like I used to be. Guatepan has got to be one of the BEST bakeries in Mercer county! My family and I absolutely love this place! There's always fresh homemade bread and Hispanic pastries to choose from. They're open 7 days a week & have multiple locations. Every year for my bday or any family occasion at that, my family gets a tres leche cake. If you've never had tres leche before, it's a spongy, milky, creamy cake topped with fresh fruit. I cannot begin to say how amazingly delicious and beautiful their cakes are! GuatePan Latin American Bakery is a local chain of three bakeries serving the greater Guatemalan and Latin American community of Trenton, NJ. This particular location is the original shop, and it is large enough to have tables for breakfast and lunch. The long display cases are a visual treat with colorful cakes, cookies, rolls and pastries under bright lights that make each come alive with sweets temptation. My Desayuno Tipico Guatepan was a large plate with double fried eggs over tortilla, black beans, platanos, sausage, queso fresa, and salty goat cheese. A choice of toast or tortilla completed the deal. Everything was fresh and tasty, with the combination of flavors and textures competing for attention. It was a fun solid meal to start the day. Too, the coffee was strong and came in a large insulated carafe that never seemed to empty. I left quite full, and unable to consider picking up a few of the beauties behind the counter (speaking of the pastries). The house was full of families enjoying themselves, as well as regular walk in customers picking up their daily dough. It is no wonder that GuatePan has been so successful. They have a large constituency that appreciates the quality of the products the backroom bakery turns out, as well as the clean and friendly atmosphere created for their families to enjoy a repast together. There are 5 locations for this bakery, I was actually at the Greenwood ave. one. It has been here 10 years but I did not know about it until very recently. I had a craving for a guava pastry and figured I could find one here. And I did, it was the best I've ever had too. It's a small place with 2 small glass cases. One houses the various turnovers and similar pastries, the other more cake like desserts. I tried something like a strawberry shortcake, and loved it too. There were possibly 15 different items in this case, so it will take a few more visits to try them all. It will be a labor of love. Chocoholics beware, not much to satisfy you. I've always had good customer service and the food has always been good. Me and my family love their "tres leches" cake which usually serves as a birthday cake for us. I've also had breakfast and some of their other pastries and haven't been disappointed. My grandmother always asked me to go get her a torta, which I think they only make on Saturday's I believe, and according to her, they taste just like the ones they make in Guatemala. I've also been to their Plainfield, NJ location which is also amazing. They have a lot of different kind of cakes, pastries, food and drinks. Guatepan is a major hotspot for many in the Trenton area. Their bread is fresh and the selection is plentiful, there is just something so comforting about drinking cafe con leche and a nice pan dulce. They also offer cakes, but the tres leches one is really the only one worth buying, in my opinion, the others are very sweet and only made with whipped frosting, but that's definitely common with Guatemalan style cakes, I personally am just not a big fan :). The downside to Guatepan is the parking!! It's so tight and crammed as it is a shared parking lot with the laundromat nearby. However this definitely wouldn't stop me from coming. The service is very friendly and the bread is good quality and fresh, I definitely would try this place out if you haven't yet! read more

Second time coming to the Hamilton Ave location. This a Guatemalan bakery complete with awesome sandwiches and breakfast. There are definitely more locations and I love coming here during weekends for traditional Guatemalan breakfast with tortillas and refried beans almost as good as my moms. This place smells really good, even when you're in the parking lot. I went in out of curiousity, and they had these rolls that look like something you'd use for a sandwich but they are a sweet, breakfast bread with wonderful, flaky texture, like nothing I ever had before. I bought a birthday cake with a peaches and cream filling and buttercream frosting. It was beautifully enhanced by tropical fruits on top. Boy, was it yummy! Everyone loved how fresh and tasty it was, and after a heavy restaurant meal, they appreciated how light the cake was. The buttercream frosting wasn't overly sweet, either.
