    Passionfruit Yogurt Smoothie, Banana Matcha
    Felicity D.

After so long with the hype dying down, I had to pull up here to see what this place was all about. I loved the Gudetama furniture and space, very cute! We got the Passionfruit Yogurt Smoothie and Banana Matcha. I'll be honest, the restaurant was empty with no customers, yet it took a long time for us to receive our drinks. I did see that the staff had made a mistake with the matcha and threw out the first batch to make another one. The smoothie was not what I expected at all. Thought it was going to be yogurt based but it was purely a slushy. The matcha was very chalky and super bitter. Banana cream tasted a bit sour... Perhaps we didn't get the best menu items but did not enjoy the quality of the drinks we got.

My husband and I had been wanting to go here for a while. We stopped by this cafe some time ago for a brunch date and enjoyed our experience. There are no servers, instead you order at the counter. They give you a number and call it out once your order is ready for you to pick up. For our drinks we both ordered the Crème Brûlée Cold Brew. We thought the cold brew was unique and tasty. The flavor definitely reminded us of crème brûlée, especially with the caramelized sugar and cold foam at the top. For food we both ordered the Gude Katsu, Egg, and Cheese Sandwich. The sandwiches came with a spicy chili sauce on the side, and we had the option to get extra sauces (ranch, ketchup, etc...). We also chose to get a side order of Tater Tots with our sandwiches. We enjoyed our meal and thought the food was delicious and flavorful. The spicy chili sauce was a great addition to the sandwich and elevated all of the other flavors in it. We used the other sauces for the tater tots, which worked out perfectly. The food is a little pricey, but they have generous portion sizes. We thought the sandwich on its own was very filling (my husband and I ended up feeling super full and almost didn't finish our meal, but that's not necessarily a bad thing lol...). In my opinion, we could have ordered a sandwich and shared one side (which we will do next time) and still have been full and satisfied. After we finished our meal we decided to get a Gudetama themed Cream Puff for dessert (to take home and enjoy later), which was delicious. The interior of the restaurant was clean and had plenty of places to sit. The dining atmosphere was pleasant, and they had music playing at a comfortable listening level. There was cute Gudetama art and decor throughout the cafe, including at the entrance and in the bathroom. A few of the props/decor allowed for photo ops, which was nice and added to the fun, adorable vibes. They also had a merch section with Sanrio themed items (plushies, clothes, bags...etc) available for purchase. The staff here were very polite, provided great customer service, and had our order ready quickly. Before we left we took a few pictures of the props/decor, and snapped a few selfies together. I also bought a few of their themed merch items (small Gudetama plush and Kuromi crop top). Overall we had a great experience and thought this was a cute little cafe. We'd definitely like to come back soon! :-)

Pumpkin matcha and the creme brulee cold brew

100% GUDETAMA Place is cute and true to theme. Lines have died down since so if you have been waiting to try it, now is your chance. The creme brulee cold brew was perfect. The creme on top was super sweet torched condensed milk. And the coffee was strong enough to balance out the drink. I'd say it's more on the dessert side. Unfortunately the matcha was not very good. My date ordered the pumpkin matcha but it just tasted like water and pumpkin. Couldn't really taste the hints of green tea. But we didn't expect ceremonial high quality matcha from a pop up breakfast shop. Another dessert drink. The curry plate is okay. It's actually a lot of food and good for the price considering this is a pop up. But I'd say the bulgogi was my favorite. It was very tangy and the sauce saturated all of the rice.

I liked how easy it was to order and select your table here. The hype has definitely died down which is good! I had been wanting to go since last year when they first opened, but it was way too busy. Now, there's no line even on the weekends. I didn't think they would still stay open but alas, they've been open for a year now! It's a good breakfast brunch spot or even lunch/dinner, with the extra cute Gudetama themed egg details. Lots of IG worthy pics here. They've changed their menu to include more items! So now, instead of just simple breakfast sandwiches, they have many rice dishes and seasonal drink options! Loco Moco & chicken and waffles with egg, etc! They have pumpkin spice matcha which was good, not the best but it does the job! Would've liked to have more pumpkin flavor throughout the drink rather than just the top. Oat and almond milk are available. My curry and katsu chicken was cute, but they overcooked my yolk lol. It tasted great though. Overall, a fun and cute experience, even though my fav Sanrio character is Aggretsuko (I wish they had more merch for her.....things kinda died down for her since the ending of her Netflix show). I was kind of a fan of Spottie Dottie during my childhood years. But Aggretsuko is my spirit animal currently lmao. Still a kawaii experience for everyone! There's also the Gudetama Netflix show, that's cute! They sell merch and have a collab with Beard Papa which I wanna try next time! Pricing was a tad on the expensive side, but it was worth it I thought. Service was excellent. They asked if I wanted side sauces, and I got the spicy mayo which was complimentary and quite spicy actually! I'll be back! I hope they are permanent because they are efficient and fuss free compared to the Hello Kitty Cafe in Irvine imo. But then again, it's been like 6 or 7 years since I've been there when they had just opened. You needed a reservation there, too.

Walked in for my first time ever just to walk back out. We didn't even get a chance to see their menu or see their service. We unknowingly, walked in through the wrong door. We saw someone use it right before we did, didn't notice any signage, and the door was unlocked, so we thought it was okay. But we only got a few steps in before the host approached us, barely welcoming us in then said "for future reference, you can't use this door to enter, it should be treated as a wall." I snapped a few pics or the decor but then just walked out. In one of the photos you can see the employee secure the door after we already walked in.

And we are back..... stopped by just before the movies today for lunch. It's the weekend and it was a little more busy today. As we came in we were greeted right away.... Food was yummy and cute. Service was great, and the place was clean even tho it was busy. See ya next time.

Been wanting to try out the Gudetama Cafe for a while. Finally made the trip after hearing the lines have died down. We went on a Saturday around lunchtime. There were no lines and a handful of patrons in the restaurant. You walk up to a counter to place your order and the food is brought out to your table. Service was good but the food was just okay. The highlight was the cute Gudetama face on the fried egg. There were quite a few Gudetamas on display throughout the restaurant plus a small gift shop area. I would say come check out the cafe if you're a die hard Gudetama fan. But I probably wouldn't make a trip here if you're coming for the food.

Such a cute character cafe in Buena Park! I love Gudetama, so I had to visit! If you're a fan of Sanrio or just love cute, themed cafes, Gudetama Cafe is a must-visit! Everything in the cafe from the decor to the food presentation is adorably on brand with the character. I came here with my friends on a Friday afternoon. It was moderately busy, but parking was easy to find since it's located in a fairly large (and mostly empty) parking lot. The food was not bad. I got the Gude-golgi Bowl (Bulgogi Bowl), and it was flavorful and satisfying. The portion sizes were a lot bigger than I expected, though I do wish the meat had been slightly more tender. The prices are a bit higher than a regular café, but that's somewhat expected due to the character theme. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and there was also a small Gudetama merch area near the entrance. Overall, the Gudetama Café is a fun and unique spot that's perfect for fans of the character or anyone looking for a cute, character-themed cafe experience.

This place is super cute and fun. We had lunch here last Saturday and it wasn't too busy when we arrived. We were quickly greeted as we walked in and the employees were all welcoming. I ordered the spam and rice entree and a can of apple juice ($26). My sister had a cheeseburger and my cousin had the chicken sandwich. We were told where to sit by the cashier and the food was brought out to us one by one. Everything came out hot and it was all yummy. My food was flavorful and it was a pretty big portion - Almost enough to share. There are many photo ops inside the cafe and there is also cute merch for sale! They also had some yummy looking dessert!

If you are aware of Sanrio and all of its characters like Hello Kitty and Keroppi, then you may be familiar with Gudetama, the little "Lazy Egg." When I learned that there was a Gudetama Cafe a couple miles down the road, we had to go. Even on the outside, the restaurant is fun! When you walk in you see toast and bacon on the ceiling and Gudetama everywhere. Everything is yellow and white, the color of eggs, including the metal tables. There is an egg shaped table in the middle with a large Gudetama in a gold shell. There are even Gudetama cream puffs from Beard Papa's on display. Near the entrance there is Gudetama merchandise for sale, and it appeared that many people were buying it. You order at the counter and they will bring your food to you. Almost everything comes topped with an egg . . . But not just an ordinary egg. It's Gudetama, face and all! There are lots of breakfast items, but also sliders and a burger, and what we ordered - - bulgogi with salad and white rice topped with an egg and Japanese curry with katsu with white rice topped with an egg. We also got a Mango Sparkle drink. The food was good and came out relatively quickly, but if we're being honest I feel like most people are here for the novelty. That's what made it such a nice surprise that the food was good too! You kind of have to look for this place, as you don't see it from passing by. It's directly across the street from Knott's Berry Farm, but it's tucked away in a relatively empty old mall. It is, however, totally worth it to come and surround yourself with Gudetama!

gude-golgi bowl, too lazy to curry
    Karen T.

I came here with friends on a Saturday afternoon and it was not busy at all. I guess the hype really died down. It was super cute inside with everything decorated with gudetama. There were also plushes and other gudetama items that you can purchase. To order, you go up to the counter and they bring your food over to you. For drinks we ordered a matcha milk tea, passion fruit yogurt smoothie, and sparkling mango. All the drinks were really good. For food, we order the gude-golgi bowl and too lazy to curry. To be honest the food was mid. I think that maybe we should have tried a sandwich instead since it's a majority of the main menu, but the new-items menu caught our eyes instead. Overall, the restaurant is super cute and the drinks were good. I would come back to try some other things on the menu if I'm ever back in the area again.

I loved this place! I ordered the cheeseburger off their seasonal menu and it was delicious! The meat was thick and juicy. The inside is cute and its one of a kind. Its a fun yellow color and it was clean. The workers were all nice. They messed up my order and gave me tator tots instead of fries and they quickly apologized and still gave me the fries. I definitely recommend.

Cute character cafe with my favorite Sanrio character, Gudetama. The decor inside is adorable, and staff is friendly. Food is decent. Kids felt a bit weird eating the egg yolk character face. :) Any actual egg yolk dish (like cheeseburger with egg) is served with sunny side up egg with runny yolk...so watch out if you don't like runny egg. My son's Cluck 'n Waffles has a scoop of butter with the face, equally cute. Parking is easy...the mall/plaza is kind of empty so plenty of spots. If you are the first to arrive before door opens, the staff will offer you the chance to "crack" the egg sign outside to move it to the OPEN position.

Ask the Community - Gudetama Cafe

Are they only open on the weekend? Google and Yelp states the cafe is only open Friday-Sunday but on the Sanrio website it lists open hours from Monday - Sunday, can someone confirm?

There's a sign that was posted about temporary operating hours are now Friday-Sunday since they are making changes. Didn't state how long this will be going on though.

Is the cafe open on Christmas Eve? Are there holidays hours posted?

Are there still long lines outside?

The crowd level depends on the day and time, but I went on a weekday, Friday around 3 PM, and it wasn't too busy. However, it started getting crowded after 4 PM.

Is this place pet friendly? I want to bring my pet bird.

There is no outdoor seating. Leave your pets at home.

How's the wait today? Is it still over 1 hour wait on weekend?

Expect more than 1 hour wait

    Do you deliver?

Not sure why you'd want this delivered, the main objective is to experience the inside of the restaurant.

Do they still have a long wait during the weekend?

    Yes, about 1.5 hours.

Does Gudetama Cafe take reservations?? Thank you!!

No they do not. It's less busy during the weekdays

How long are the wait times?

I went there last May 10, Friday. I arrived 945am I was able to get in at 1208pm.

Are all the eggs undercooked by default?

    Yes

    Do they take cash?

When I came, they did not accept any cash.

Can an order be called in?

    no you can't call in

I'm not sure if they don't have the AC running enough because the place gets so crowded, but I was sitting there trying to study and eventually got so hot that I had no choice but to leave. Honestly, I feel like a coffee shop being THAT hot is serious enough to take off two stars. The coffee itself deserves five stars--it really does taste that good! Shakshouka was solid, smoky and savory with a nice kick and sourdough on the side. For the galbi-jjim eggs benedict, the actual eggs benedict was good but the galbi-jjim was on the drier side and salty, kind of like beef jerky. The tallow fries we ordered on the side could also be a little less salty, although the texture was buttery soft while having this thin layer of crispiness I've never tasted in fries before. The fusion vision is there for sure; I personally think if there was more galbi flavor and a more braised texture, it could really elevate the eggs benedict! The blueberry lemon curd french toast also missed the target for us because the bread itself was bland (there could've been more blueberry lemon) and was a bit too sweet. Would still come back to try the rest of the menu, however, because there seems to be so many interesting options, and the service was super helpful and it's a cute brunch spot for sure!

The cakes here are incredible. My husband and I ordered the Iraqi Karak Tea, Hot Lime Tea, Biscoff Cake, and Pistachio Chocolate Cake. The only thing I would note is that it may not be the ideal pairing with their desserts because the tea itself is also fairly sweet. As for the cakes, both were fantastic. The Biscoff Cake was honestly one of the best cakes I've ever eaten. It was rich without being too greasy, perfectly balanced, and the Biscoff flavor came through beautifully. The Pistachio Chocolate Cake was also a huge winner, with a great combination of nutty pistachio and decadent soft chocolate flavors. We came for a casual meetup and left talking about the desserts the entire drive home. Price: Prices were very reasonable considering the quality. Tea drinks are generally around $4-6, while specialty cakes such as the Biscoff Cake and Pistachio Cake are about $12-14 per slice. By the way, I initially ordered the classic strawberry matcha for comparison to other matcha drinks I've had from other cafes and I came the 2nd time to try the matcha flight to give it a chance but I was underwhelmed on both times. On both occasion I ordered my drinks with coconut milk and it was so overpowering and matcha flavor is very mild and with addition of plenty of ice, it taste like a waterdowned green drink that's milky in flavor.

The space is super picturesque so come ready to pose. Every little space has a theme that feels a bit different. You can enjoy your tea with a fairy vibe, English vibe, outdoor vibe, grandmas' yard vibe, kids like vibe or coffee shop vibe haha this spot has it all. Come alone or come with friends. The outdoor area has a good amount of shades spots that block the sun and its heat. The coffee menu is unique and delicious. The drinks are really well thought out. They have a few syrups made in-house. I tried their pistachio latte and it was perfection. It has little pieces of pistachio in it and so every sip has a bit of it. I had the bulgogi panini and I wasn't sure what to expect but it surpassed anything I could imagine that panini would be. Whoever came out with this combo is a genius. You must try it! Overall, I will be back. Even though I live a bit far , this spot is totally worth the drive.

During my visit, it happened to be one of the hottest days, so sitting outside to eat or drink was honestly unbearable. Thankfully, there's plenty of seating inside, but it as pretty busy when we went so we ended up braving the heat outside. As for food, I'd say it was decent but nothing that had me craving it afterward or thinking I needed to come back specifically for it. I tried the avocado toast and the bulgogi cupbap and both were good for a casual meal. The drinks were okay as well. I think it's a nice spot if you're in the area and looking for a laid back cafe, but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way just for the food.

Unfortunately, that turned into over an hour--with no updates from staff during that time. What made it worse was that we only found out after we had already paid that the kitchen was backed up. That's something customers deserve to know upfront so they can decide whether they're willing to wait. We were also there with a baby who needed to go down for a nap, which made the long, unexpected delay even more difficult. On top of that, they had already run out of matcha and the menu was extremely limited, which was disappointing considering that's one of the main draws of a place like this. Overall, poor communication and lack of transparency really ruined the experience. I understand delays happen, but being upfront and managing expectations would have made a huge difference. Extremely disappointed. We went to this place a long time ago when they first opened and remembered them having a more extensive menu and it being far better. Sad to see that this place has gone downhill. My family and I will definitely not be coming back again.
