Came here around lunch with my parents today because I was craving Mango Float/Graham BAAAD the past week and researching online recommended this place. We ended up getting Mango Grahams, Pancit, Siomai and Popcorn Chicken. Before we placed the order, it was communicated clearly from the staff that there would be a wait (there were 3 parties ahead of us, and one of them was huge, so we kinda expected a wait anyways.) We also weren't in a rush and were willing to wait regardless, so that didn't really bother us. The Mango Grahams were exactly and more than we expected; definitely satiated my cravings. The food was also good and arrived in a reasonable manner. Again, we only wanted to check this place out because of the Mango Grahams, but we were surprised at how many other options they had for desserts, appetizers, food, and drinks. It's a bit of a drive for me, but I wouldn't mind the distance knowing the quality and options they have. Also, I briefly looked into this place before driving here, and I was expecting like a quick "boba store" environment, but it also has a sit down ambiance. Great for quick hang outs with friends or sit down meals with your family. Also, I'm specifically writing this review because of the staff. Given how busy they were, I want to recognize how friendly and welcoming they were. There were lots of orders, but they came out in an understandable amount of time, and the person in the front always had a smile of her face. Tried this place for dinner. Casual ambiance, tables were clean. The staff was friendly but things were slow and some dishes took longer to come out than others. They also closed early without notice which threw us off. We got bicol express, sweet and sour pork, pineapple fried rice, longanisa, and lumpia. Bicol Express- Meat was tender. Sauce had a good creaminess to it and just the right amount of heat. Sweet and Sour Pork- The breading on the pork stayed crisp which was lovely. The sauce had a good balance of sweat and tangy. Pineapple Fried Rice- Flavorful rice and the contrast of the pineapple pieces was bright and refreshing. They gave us a generous portion. Longanisa- This was served silog style with garlic rice and fried egg. Longanisa was sweet and meaty and paired well with rhe rice and egg. A breakfast classic you can eat any time of the day. Lumpia- This is always a favorite. Fried to perfection so you get a crisp exterior and a juicy interior. Paired well with sweet chili dipping sauce. Okay, I love the ambiance, and the customer service is top-notch, but this review isn't about that--it's about the Halo Halo Supreme. In my opinion, the Halo-Halo Supreme is overpriced for what it is. The ingredients didn't seem as fresh compared to other places, such as Cafe 86 or Snowflakes. No disrespect to the owner, as I always enjoy supporting small businesses, especially new ones. I just feel there is room for improvement when it comes to the quality and freshness of the ingredients, particularly at the price point being charged. read more

We went for a Monday afternoon lunch. Ordered the Pancit Miki Bihon (a combination of two different types of stir-fried noodles: thick egg noodles (miki) and thin rice noodles (bihon), and the Chop Suey. Both came with very generous portions of chicken and assorted vegetables (portobello mushroom, broccoli, carrots, etc.) The flavor was not leaning umami but that is a good thing for me as I am allergic to MSG. It seems like there is a trend to order via a kiosk, and this place is no exception. Maybe I'm old-school but I like to interact with people, to ask about the menu, recommendations, etc. Regardless, the service was fast as the food came in a timely manner. The spot is not fine dining. They provide disposal plates and pre-packaged utensils. Condiments are also available at the kiosk area. There is plenty of parking. First time here and everything looks delicious. Gonna have to come back and try out more of their desserts... We had ice scramble in the Philippines and we got excited when we saw it on their menu! Let me just tell you... The ice scramble is pretty darn close to the ones in the Philippines. Both the mango graham and the ice scramble were delicious. If had to choose, the mango graham was just plain awesome. Totally coming back for those and to try out more flavors. The fries were ok. Pretty good but hit or miss with the crunchy outside. The powder was yummy. Didn't take a new pic of their main menu coz it's the same as the one from last month. The place is cute with native looking lamp decor and lots of fans for such a tiny place (which is awesome coz it keeps the place nice and cool). The chairs are plush and so comfy to sit on. Our first visit was a fun and surprising one! It was fun because when is dessert NOT fun?? We got their signature halo halo and mango sago... dessert... drink (idk, it was served in the typical boba cup but we could've eaten it as opposed to drink it). Tip for the halo halo: grab a plastic water cup from the counter and scoop the ube soft serve into it. It's a lot easier to eat that way. Oh, and a small size is more than enough for two people to share! It was surprising because we got to meet Julie, whom I assume is the matriarch of what I assume is the family run business. It was even more surprising to learn her family and mine were practically neighbors growing up in the 626, with her children going to the same high school as me, a few years before I did. So after moving to the OC and more than missing "home", it was nice finding a place with people who shared the same roots as mine. Yea, yea, the SGV isn't THAT far away, but it's far enough away. Anyways, Julie and staff welcomed us in and answered our questions. They even went a step further when at first they were out of the mango blend for the mango sago, but Julie insisted they can and would make a new batch for us. When we asked what it is since there's no description, the worker said " it's a dessert" lol so we ordered without knowing what it was and google said it's a simplified version of the halo halo were used to. Mother's Day lunch at Halo Haus Buena Park with almost a 2-hour wait for the food. I was excited to check this spot out and going here for lunch with my mom for Mother's Day marked the perfect occasion. I drove all the way from the South Bay to go visit. We arrived around 11:15 a.m., 15 minutes after opening, and there were only 3 other orders ahead of us. All ordering is done through their kiosk. I noticed a sign that said all credit card transactions have a 3% fee. There was also another sign that they accept cash but only $20 bills. I asked to pay in cash to avoid the 3% fee but the employee there said they had just opened and so the register wasn't ready yet. Luckily, I had my debit card via Apple Pay and ended up using that instead. We chose to order the Miki Bihon ($17.95), Crispy Pata ($17.95) , Chop Suey with Chicken ($16.95) and a small scoop of rice ($1.75). I had originally planned to get the Wonton Soup but that was no longer on the menu. Similarly, many other dishes, including all their beef dishes were also unavailable. Our order was placed at 11:24 a.m., and was surprised that we didn't receive our food till about 12:15pm. I noticed there were other tables getting a bit impatient while waiting for their orders as well, but since it was Mother's Day, I figured that that items like Crispy Pata would naturally take longer. At first, I wasn't too frustrated with the 45 minute wait. When our orders came out, I was pleasantly surprised with the large portions of the Miki Bihon and Chop Suey. Tastewise, the Miki Bihon was flavorful, comforting and satisfying. The combination of soft egg noodles and thin rice noodles gave the dish a nice texture. The Chop Suey had a good mix of vegetables, but overall it lacked flavor and tasted a bit bland. It had a decent texture but the seasoning just wasn't there. The Crispy Pata was one of the dishes we came for and were looking forward to having this Mother's Day. It had a nice crisp on the outside, but unfortunately it seemed overcooked, and some parts were tough. Since we experience a bit of a wait for the savory items, my mom advised me to place our dessert order early. I ordered a small Supreme Halo Halo ($6.95). I had originally been eyeing the Mango Graham Halo Halo but similar to how many of the savory dishes were unavailable, this item was also not available. They also only had vanilla ice cream and no ube, unlike what is shown in their menu photos. My order went in at 12:29 p.m., and considering it was just a small halo halo, I did not expect a long wait. I was a bit shocked when it was 1:15 p.m. and my halo halo had not come out yet. I went up to the employee at the counter to inquire about it. She asked for my order number and name, then handed me a receipt. After that, I watched her go into the kitchen and only then started making the halo halo. When she finished and handed me the order, I asked why it took so long, and she mentioned something about how the receipt possibly not coming out of the system. I found this strange and honestly a bit frustrating. If I had not followed up, we likely would have continued to wait for a halo halo that would never have been made due to "receipt not coming through." She even asked if I had taken the receipt, which did not make sense. After the initial 45 minute wait for the savory dishes, another 45 minute wait for dessert felt a bit excessive. Overall, it was a good lunch, but that wait tested us. It was worth it for time with my mom though. I would best describe the visit here as "the good, the bad and the ugly." The good is the portion sizes and the pricing. The bad is that many menu items are not available. The ugly is the wait time. Waiting nearly 2 hours for all the food (45 minutes for the savory dishes and another 45 minutes for the halo halo) is simply too long. Craving pancit and decided to give this place a try. I ordered the walnut shrimp, pancit, pineapple fried rice and eggplant tofu. I was pleasantly surprised about the portion sizes, it's kind of family style. The flavor was everything we tried was fresh and fantastic! Walnut shrimp was tender and not over cooked, eggplant was perfectly cooked, fried rice was flavorful and not too oily and pancit was delicious!! Service was good, ordered at the screen and sat down to wait for my food. Food took a little bit to come out, maybe 15-20 minutes but was totally worth the wait. I went to the grand opening and it was very busy but the service was great. The owners were so kind to share Chinese donut samples and milk tea. We shared a table with sweet kababayan. The atmosphere was very welcoming and happy. Our order: tokwa't baboy, tocilog, salt and pepper fish and halo halo. Each dish was delicious. The vinegar in the tokwa't baboy perfectly balanced the juicy pork and yummy tofu. Easily a favorite. The salt and pepper fish had a little spice and good portions of fish. My sister enjoyed the mango sago. We also got the halo halo in the small sizes, which was definitely a decent amount for the price in comparison to other places. No signage or greeting to tell you to go to a screen to order which we did. Prices were reasonable but dishes were small in portion. Ordered the Sisig and salt n pepper chicken. Took slightly long to come out as they were backed up. Chicken had good flavor but just not enough. The Sisig was good but the pork was finely cut to my liking. Halo Haus is a new spot serving Filipino-Chinese food, and you can tell they're still getting settled in and working through some early growing pains. When we arrived, we weren't greeted at all, and it wasn't clear that you need to order at the counter before sitting down, a simple sign or friendly welcome would make a big difference. The restaurant itself looks nicely refreshed inside, but it was warm with no A/C running, and none of the ceiling fans were on, which made it a bit uncomfortable while waiting. Funny enough, the A/C finally turned on about 15 minutes before we left, what a difference it made! You can also hear quite a bit of kitchen chatter about orders ("there's no rice," "I need more time," etc.), so turning on some background music or a TV could help soften the noise and improve the atmosphere. We ordered the Sizzling Pork Sisig and Salt and Pepper Chicken. Both dishes had good flavor, but the portions were very small. We also tried a Halo-Halo, which was actually pretty good. It's clear the team is trying, and the concept of Filipino-Chinese fusion has promise, but there's room for improvement in organization, communication, and comfort. If I was only rating their desserts, I'd give them 5 stars. I loved their classic taho with sago. All the desserts look extravagant and delicious. They also have friendly service, and the owner was nice and informative. Unfortunately I had to take off 2 stars for their savory foods. I wish they would just stick to a few key Filipino food items. Their sisig and silog options were good. Instead, they provided an overwhelming Chinese menu as well, which was very confusing as to what this restaurant is trying to be. Are they a Filipino dessert restaurant with some tasty foods to snack on, or a sit down Chinese restaurant? We tried a few Chinese dishes and were disappointed. I get worried when restaurants offer too much on their menu. They need to focus on a few dishes and do them well. I want this place to succeed! My family and I have frequented Halo Haus for the past few months and it's always been one of our favorite dessert spots. Today, we ordered the Halo Halo and the Mango Graham as usual and we noticed the quality has definitely declined. We are used to the ice cream always being light and creamy but today it was pretty much flavorless ice. The texture was entirely different and unrecognizable. For the price, you'd definitely expect better quality. In the past, it was worth the price but not anymore. I hope that this is a one off experience as I would like to continue coming in the future. But after tonight I was disappointed and I don't see us coming back soon. read more
