How do I even begin to write this review? It took me a a bit since my dad's passing, but here I go. My dad passed away June 24, 2025. His name was Jose Isidro Lomeli. Arrangements were made with Joel from the mortuary. Let me also say this wasn't our first time we used their services. We used Guerra Gutierrez for my grandma, my brother and now my dad. I never thought I would have to leave a bad review during all of us grieving for him. But here I go....My mom contacted the mortuary so that they can be in charge of dealing with receiving my dad's body from Mexico. My dad passed away in Mexico and he was transferred to California. The minute my dad got transferred to CA and the mortuary received his body, you would think a curtesy call to the family would be important to let us know "hey we have your father & he's in good hands" but no! I called and no answer, couldn't get ahold of anybody to confirm that my dad was with Guerra Gutierrez. I also couldn't just drive to the mortuary since we live in AZ now, it's not easy to just get up & go. So all arrangements were done by phone. If you are in business of taking care of family loved ones when they pass, communication is key! Understanding is key! Compassion is key! Family is in a shock, worst time of their life & your job is to make sure you get every detail!! 2nd thing when the funeral day came up, my dad did not have a viewing at the mortuary. That was my mother's choice not to have it in the mortuary. We decided to have his casket in the church instead. My dads body was sitting outside the church, in the car for a while until mass started. Nobody explained to me that "having an open casket" was not going to be an option. Now, remember this wasn't the first time we've used their service so we thought it would be the same as how brother service was. They only let me see my dad for 5 MINUTES!!! Only 5 minutes!!!! Can you believe how that made me feel? This was the last time I would get to see my dad & they only opened the casket for a few minutes almost outside the church. They closed his casket & then we all carried him inside the church. I am so heart broken & incredibly in pain for that reason. Joel mentioned that some churches don't allow "open casket" and this goes back to my thought & question "why not ask the family these questions?" You guys are there to think of every detail for the families that are grieving and in pain!! Do your job better!! I would have picked a different church if that was the case. Are you kidding me?? Also that wasn't the only thing. 3rd horrific thing was that once we arrived to the cemetery, the priest never showed up. We were waiting over 1+ hr under the sun for a priest to show up!!! My dad's casket was once again just sitting in the vehicle. This was just the topping of the cake, infuriating!!! I had family members drive back to the church to look for the priest. I received a call from the priest personally and told me that he was not scheduled to go to the cemetery. So that means Joel did not do his job!!! Idk what went wrong with his arrangement with the church, but it was all a disaster!!! I'm saying these things so that ppl that use this place make sure you get every detail down and confirm it with them. Or simply go somewhere else!!! We gave them our business 3X now and their wont be any future ones. After all this, I had a serious long conversation with Joel on the phone and it was sickening. His excuses & responses were ridiculous. And still had the audacity to ask for the remaining balance of the "doves" that we didn't pay for. My mom called & paid them still, but that's just the type of person she is. She doesn't like to owe anyone anything. I hope Guerra Gutierrez reads this and Joel and knows that I won't ever see my dad again and if all I can do is leave a bad review for you then I am!!! I hope you know that you hurt many ppl and especially myself "his only daughter." Get better training, more compassion, pay attention to what families ask of you. Follow up with them in every step of the way!! Especially those who live out of state!!! read more

We had a family member pass away on April 27th unexpectedly we tried a couple of other mortuaries then we went to Guerra Gutierrez Mortuary in Whittier on Greenleaf and met with Mr. Joel Ramirez who gave us excellent service. He explained everything in a very friendly manner, and he made the whole process very comfortable. The Pastor he obtained was excellent he spoke in English and Spanish which made everyone understand his message and felt a part of the process. Hey there. Please inform your hearse drivers not to speed down a 25 mph residential street at 40. The corpse in the back is getting shaken around and it's definitely not respectful of the deceased. Our situation was unique and extremely overwhelming, but right from the start Kathy was quick to reassure, and guide us through the emotional task of planning the cremation of our Aunt. Due to legal reasons we needed special authorization before the mortuary could proceed and she kept us updated though the entire process. We had to wait several weeks between the cremation and the memorial service...during the planning, once again Kathy was a dream with getting photos, songs, arranging the date and time...even the day before when we encountered a vital issue with our urn (purchased on our own), she was able to quickly offer a solution. The day of the service was perfect. Kenneth walked us through the day, step by step, offering suggestions and even helping with a wardrobe malfunction. The memorial video, prayer cards, beverage and pan dulce set up....it was all perfect. I'm so grateful for all you did for our family. Thank you for making our Aunt's day so special. read more

The mortuary is NOT wheelchair accessible! I went to a funeral where three people were on wheelchairs and needed to carried up the step by others in order to view their loved one. That is not something that a grieving person should have to deal with. read more

Thank you lord for guiding our decision honoring my dad. My family and I were dealing with the fragile decision of making/arranging funeral services for my father. Guerra-Gutierrez mortuary was recommend to us by a dear friend who had used them in the past. Dealing with Rose hills was somewhat difficult due to being a large company. Dealing with Guerra-Gutierrez was a excellent experience. Being new to arranging funeral services. they kindly walked us through the process and kept cost to a minimum while giving beautiful funeral honoring my dad with an excellent service. The day prior to the funeral, Ron called and we reviewed process and expectations in addition to review/tighten up any loose ends. The day of service, Ron walked us through the whole process and we had a excellent experience and a beautiful service. Burial site was also met with an excellent top notch experience including all attendees were allow to place a rose on my fathers casket prior to burial. This is the 3rd family funeral they have helped us with. My family is old school Mexican when it comes to these things. Guerra an Gutierrez accommodated us with extended hours for the wake. Ron has always made everything so effortless for us. He walks the family thru every step of the way. The day of the wake for my cousin he came in on his day off to speak to my family and offer his condolences. Literally went above and beyond his duties. DO NOT USE THEIR FTD RECOMMENDATION. It's overpriced and 3rd party. You are better off working with a local florist from yelp. We used and placed the order. We received confirmation, follow up email and no flowers at funeral. :( You will have better service using anyone but FTD. So sad it didn't make it to funeral nor viewing. read more

Then when we followed up a month later because headstone still not on grave, the admitted to forgetting again. Didn't even offer to help pay for setting fee considering their "oversight" read more

The assistant was very friendly and provided me with great information as I was totally clueless as to what the next step was after experiencing such a tragic loss. I wrote a review for this business several years ago and am VERY surprised to find it no longer here. So I will simply re-write it. My family chose Guerra & Gutierrez when my mother passed away in 2004. The casket we chose had a metal replica of "The Last Supper" on the inside of the lid. Was asked that it be removed and replaced with a fabric sunburst pattern. We sat there as the consultant called the casket company and notified them of our request. The evening of the viewing, as my family walked in to view our mother, the metal replica was still on the inner lid of the casket. The changes we had requested had not made. Halfway through the viewing with the room full of people, that metal replica of "The Last Supper" fell off the casket lid and landed on my mother! It was exteremely disturbing to everyone in attendance. I got up and removed it. I walked out of the room and found our consultant. I told her what happened and asked why our request for the sunburst pattern was not fulfilled. She started making excuses and said that the sunburst pattern was there, it was just on the side of the lining that was facing the inside of the casket where no one could see it (what???). She COMPLETELY refused to take any responsibility for this. This was completely unacceptable!! When we left the viewing, we were given a box with the folded Obituary Programs to take with us to the church so we could hand them out to our guest. When I got to the church I opened the box and discovered that only a few of the programs had been folded and were ready for us to pass out. So as our guests were arriving, instead of greeting them, I was sitting in a corner of the church folding the remaining 200 of the Obituary Programs. Lastly, after the rosary service at the church, the representative from Guerra & Gutierrez came over to me and handed me the cards that had been on the flower tributes sent to my mother. He had removed them from the flowers before we had a chance to view the arrangements. I had no way of knowing who had sent what arrangement and I couldn't thank them in person when I spoke to them at the services. When it came time for my father to pre-plan his funeral, we went to a different mortuary in Whittier instead. When he passed last year, we were treated with compassionate and professionalism by everyone there. We were extremely happy with them. What a huge difference! read more

Came here on Friday to celebrate the passing and long beautiful life of my great grandpa (105 years old, aka amazing) The outside of the mortuary is pretty traditional but the parking WAS HORRIBLE. It is also kind of weird because it is right in the middle of a residential area. So you end up parking like two blocks away and walking because their parking lot fits about 12 cars. I read the reviews before coming so once I saw that cross hanging on the coffin I was getting really nervous that it would fall on him like the previous review! The gathering area is very small, good for small families with only about 6 rows of pews with two columns, so 12 short pews in total. They also did not supply refreshments or anything for after the ceremony. I did like how they were able to play a slideshow after everyone prayer/spoke but THEN the DVD player/TVs had some kind of difficulty so the slideshow was cropped a bit at the bottom. I did like how they provided maps to the cemetery which was SUPER close (Rose Hills) so that was nice. Other than that I did not think that it was tip top shaped. Seemed a little run down, if I had to plan a funeral I wouldnt be coming back here. read more

Wow! Where do I start? From the moment I called Guerra Gutierrez at 11pm, I was answered by Ron. He made me feel at ease in knowing that he would walk me through every step. We met with him the following day and were greeted with cold water bottles and freshly baked cookies. Ron educated us on the entire process. Mind there were 5 of us there and he spoke to us in a way that had all 5 of us on the same page. The entire time he sympathize with our hurting family. Communication with him was easy and fast. Any changes we asked for last minute got done. He followed up amd confirmed everything every step of the way. The day came for our memorial service and the staff directing our service were AMAZING ! I don't have 1 bad thing to say about this place. Very clean, organized and professional! As we had to say our final good bye to our dad the director from Guerra Gutierrez that drove my dad around and directed us on the proper steps to take during his mass ceremony was beyond great. So patient and professional. Guerra Gutierrez made the entire Process so smooth. They took care of my family as if we were their family. When our loved one passed unexpectedly, we had to make a quick decision on which mortuary to use. We had seen the Guerra Gutierrez Mortuaries advertisement in the weekly bulletin at St Mary's Catholic Church in Uptown Whittier where we attend mass, and the advertisement professed to be "Family Owned-Family Focused." We would later find out that was not true at all. After the initial call It took them FOUR hours to pick-up our loved one, even though their Greenleaf Mortuary was less than one mile away. The following day we met with "Funeral Director" to discuss what services we would require. Perhaps a better term for their "Funeral Director" would be "polished salesperson." Although professional and seemingly sincere, after we signed the contract and deposited the monies required, we never heard from the "Funeral Director" unless the Mortuary needed additional money. We had to initiate all the calls, to confirm dates, services, and the status of our loved one's remains. NOT what we would call "Family Focused." The "Funeral Director" mistakenly ordered an urn vault too large for the interment site, so we were promised a $295.00 refund. When we called and e-mailed the Mortuary several times regarding the refund status, we were told they had forgotten to charge us $18.00 for an urn permit, and $120.00 for copies of the Death Certificate; which would be deducted from the $295.00 owed our family. We found that quite "nitpicky" as we had already been charged $2845.00 for the "Basic Services of Funeral Director and Staff." The total time we spent with the "Funeral Director" was less than three total hours over a weeks' time. We still do not know what the "Funeral Director" did to justify the $2845.00. It has been about five weeks since we requested the $295.00 and we still have NOT received the refund. BEWARE of slick "Funeral Director" services and the "Family Owned-Family Focused" advertisement, as it is NOT practiced at Guerra Gutierrez Mortuaries. Shame on them for taking advantage of families when they are the most vulnerable. read more
