First time visiting this boba shop & I loved it! It's located in the San Gabriel Square. There was plenty of parking & no line on a Sunday afternoon. The place was spacious with limited seating. I ordered the Apple Hongxuan Black tea & it was just like the one I had in Taiwan! You can really taste the apple and the tea & it wasn't too sweet. I also ordered the Winter Melon Fresh Milk, I've never had winter melon with milk, it went well together. I will definitely return the next time we're in the area. I heard their grand opening had crazy lines wrapping outside, so I purposely came on a Monday afternoon instead. Still ended up waiting about 15 minutes, which honestly isn't bad considering it's still pretty new. The interior surprised me -- very calm and relaxing. Nice color palette, clean decor, and a peaceful vibe. It's actually a place you wouldn't mind sitting down and chatting for a bit instead of just grabbing and leaving. What I ordered: * Oolong Milk Tea w/ Boba The tea flavor is definitely stronger than average, so you can actually taste the oolong. However, the drink leans on the sweeter side compared to many other tea-forward shops in SGV. Not bad -- just something to note if you usually ask for reduced sugar. The highlight for me was the boba: soft, warm, and fresh. Texture was on point and better than a lot of places nearby that serve firmer pearls. More and more Asian boba shops open up shop in the US, and Guiji is no different. This time, it's a popular Taiwan chain, so when I went to LA for a biz trip, I had to try it. Prices are on the steeper side for presumably high quality milk tea, and my 3 milk tea order came out to be $23. I ordered the popular 33 Kings Oolong Milk Tea, and it's pretty much a basic oolong tea, but I guess some claim it's more "enhanced"? Their shop runs on the sweeter side, so I was surprised when I found my 50% sugar drink to be perfect for me, when usually I am a 70-80% sugar drinker. Definitely get the 50% sugar option MAX, anything more IMO and it's too sweet. The boba pearls are a little small, but I feel like every boba shop from Taiwan has a little smaller boba. They were bouncy, chewy, and had flavor, but the pearls were a little too small for the straw. I would get stuffed with boba pearls during the first half of the drink, with only the milk tea itself during the latter half. Make sure to portion out your boba pearls to get the full enjoyability. The inside is very modern and the cups look very minimalistic and upscale. However, I found this place to be very, very similar in taste to TP Tea, and probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference aside from the boba pearls. Solid milk tea spot, but this shop demands a premium from your wallet. With the plethora of boba shops serving similar drinks with similar menus, it's getting harder to differentiate which ones come out on top! read more

It's not overly soaked in the brown sugar syrup that some boba sit in so it doesn't overpower the tea. Price: $6-7 for each drink. I feel like this is a bit pricey since it's for the small size. They seemed to have a larger size available but it was not for sale at the time I ordered. Drinks are small for the price in my opinion. The Atmosphere: This is more of a grab and go type of boba place. There is just seating for you to wait for you drink. No place to sit and study if that's what you want to do. Tried Guiji on a random Tuesday afternoon because I saw it opened in the recently renovated Tawa plaza. It gets a 3.3 from me. The place itself is quite modern. There's a sleek aesthetic so it looks like the clean, minimalist Taiwanese aesthetic. Only thing I dislike about the interior is the large curved bench and wasted space. There is a lot of empty space and not really any areas to comfortably sit and rest. There's one ada table in the back but only two chairs. The bench in the front has a bar table but no outlets. The double height bench allows you to put your items behind you but it's quite uncomfortable to sit for a long period of time. The store is really meant for you to get your drink and go. I think it's a bit of a shame considering the plaza is getting a lot of new restaurants added and there's opportunity to create late night spaces for people to grab a drink and chat afterwards. Right now, it suits it's current purpose as there's long lines considering the hype for the store being a new Taiwanese teahouse and the plaza is still under renovatio, but it would be nice to stay for longer periods and for returning customers to have a draw and need to stay here. The aesthetic also makes it perfect for doing work inside but again there's either large open spaces or the large uncomfortable bench. Would like it if they added more tables either inside or outside. The menu itself is decently sized but it is new so I'm assuming more will be added. They focus on flavors and tea based drinks so I was expecting a heavy tea taste on those parts. We tried a regular black milk tea at 75% sweet and a 50% sweet green milk tea. The black milk tea tasted like your standard milk tea though i wished I got 50% sweet. Overall it was okay, nothing wrong but just a regular milk tea drink. The green milk tea was also a standard drink. Nothing special overall from both of the drinks. When they called our number though, it was funny because they had an intercom system that reminded me of the hmart food court in Arcadia and we were not really expecting that. Overall, it's an okay drink spot but with so many tea house spots in the SGV, with two literally right around the corner, they might need something more appealing other than the aesthetic to reel people in. read more

Came during the soft opening (2/7) at 5pm. The wait to order was 30mins. I didnt think that was bad. Once I ordered, I waited 1.5hrs more just to get my drinks. Menu is fairly limited. They primarily have fruit teas or tea based drinks. Only 3 topping options; pearl (boba), coconut jelly and aloe. Theres also only one size available. I ordered the apple hongxuan black tea and peach oolong tea. Both 80% ice, 80% sweetness for the apple and 100% sweetness for the peach oolong. The tea flavor is light and floral and fruit flavoring was subtle and not so over powering. The tea are not bitter so I wouldnt say its heavy on the tea side. I enjoyed both drinks whereas my boyfriend who is a milk tea lover and has a higher sweet tolerance, did not like it. No tables inside but long cement benches to sit while you wait. Their queue screen was not accurate. My number was listed on the "ready" queue but when I went to go ask, they said it wasnt ready until she calls out my number.
