Good, but pricey farm-to-table steakhouse. If you want to gorge on meat, this probably isn't the best spot for you since you will definitely leave with a lighter wallet. However, the quality of the meat here is a notch above anywhere I've been in the Burlington area. Steak frites come with far more frites than steak, but the steak is excellent and cooked the way you ordered it. The fries are good (although not as good as the Farmhouse). If you come here, you absolutely must get the steak tartare. It's served on a hashbrown (they call it something fancy, but its basically a really good hashbrown), which adds a salty crispyness that pairs really well with the tender beef and runny egg yolk. The bar here is solid too. I got a proper old fashioned for $10 and the whiskey smash is tasty as well. They've definitely done a nice job transforming this former Ground Round. read more

The choice was between the Bearded Frog and the Guild for their burger nite... Bearded Frog is close Guild is a drive. However Bearded Frogs burgers have turned to hockey pucks...and I have stopped ordering them. Our experience at the Guild was great...starting with the service that was superb...The Burgers were so good...no hockey pucks these... I had one of their regulars burger with sauteed onions and a delicious mushroom cheese and tons of greens...my husband had the special... Oh My onion ring bacon and apple slices and Bernaise sauce and piles of fries... The food was excellent and we will have to take a ride to the Guild. read more

When arriving to pick up takeout (for somebody else of all things) the food was not the problem, which is why this is two stars and not one star. The attitude of the hostess when handing me the food was that of disgust, and I couldn't understand why. I always give the benefit of the doubt, but the final straw was when I was clearly about to ask a question and got the "shoo away" hand gesture from this young woman, which is simply waving one's back hand as if to say "you're dismissed." I have never in my near 40 years seen this from any restaurant employee, never mind the face of the business. I understand it is tough to find good people these days, but I definitely do not expect to ask this person to seat me any time in the near future. We arrived 1 hr before closing, so staff looked like they were ready to run out of there. We didn't go for the steaks which was the highly recommended item. They were way too big even for 2 people. The waitress first offered us some bread (or rolls) can't remember, after bringing the plates, she came back and say "Sorry, we ran out of bread". Seriously. Nothing to nibble before our food arrive. We ordered a BBQ shared plate with brisket and chicken. The brisket was good. My husband loved the BBQ sauce that came with it, I didn't. The chicken - well - I could not eat more than 1 bite. It tasted very strange, so decided to skip. Beer selection was good. The place was not that full, only few tables occupied - tons of staff, but yet service was slow - go figure. read more

The cocktails on the menu were refreshing and exciting to the tastebuds. Combinations of sour and smoke or spice and spirits were a surprising wake-me-up to the palate. The stake tartare was out of this world. Perfect balance of crispy hashbrown with tender steak, seasoned with herbed olive oil and salted with capers strewn about. Loved it!! The smoked pork loin was tender and juicy, cooked to perfection with a complement of roasted veggies and sweat apple butter. The fish special, fried striped bass, was tender and mild, perfectly complemented by homemade tartar sauce and Cole slaw. The service was great. Not rushed but attentive. THIS PLACE WAS INCREDIBLE. My fiancé and I were really excited to come here. Had 6pm reservations for dinner, and a show at Higher Ground later on for our Christmas Gift to each other. We started with the steak tartare. It was tender and delicious. Seasoned perfectly and resting atop the best potato pancake I've ever eaten. Fried capers were a nice touch. I started with Maine Beer Co Lunch and he had an Oatmeal Stout from Four Quarters. Cheers to their beer and cocktail list! We both ordered burgers. Rare. He got the Bayley Hazen Blue and I got the Laplatte. They were perfect. There really is no other word. I upgraded my fries to poutine and it was a religious experience. I love poutine and theirs is top notch. For cocktails we got Goddess of the Underworld, penicillin, Vieux Cerre, and Old Checkered House. (We walked from our Airbnb so we sent it. We had chocolate pot de crème for dessert. Wow. Open kitchen with the wood fire grill created great ambience, staff was very friendly and prompt. Highly recommend. Can't wait to come back! read more

I want to share possibly the worst dining experience in VT I've had since moving here several years ago. I regularly host clients and staff at The Guild. In fact in my role as a director of a financial institution, I make a business of regularly entertaining clients at local restaurants, Quietly, over the years, the Guild has been a reliable go-to place. I just left this evening shaking and beyond-belief upset as I write this. By the way this review will replace a few 5 star reviews of the Guild. My guests and I had a perfectly good meal when a "manager" approached the table telling me I've been over-served double vodkas. She claimed I had 5. We had 5 between the 3 of us between 4:30pm to 8pm. I informed our waitress that - and this is a QUOTE "I'm sorry but that was really disappointing, I really wish she didn't come over and just loudly tell the table that we're cut off." We wrapped up coffee and 15 minutes of disbelief conversation, and when leaving I tried to introduce myself to the other "manager" who would only write "J. Gorman" on a piece of paper. He wouldn't even let me speak as I desperately tried let him know how much business we do together - and that it was a miscommunication! He laughed at me. He told me to gladly call the "front office". He berated me, called me names, raised his voice, and claimed I caused a scene. The only person who caused a scene this evening was Mr. Gorman. Am I devastated a waitress was apparently "in tears" which we didn't see? YES! But he caused an even bigger scene while I just tried to have a quiet conversation . By the way, this all happened TONIGHT only twenty minutes ago... I will NEVER trust the Guild or Farmhouse Group to my business or trusted clients ever ever ever again. If I can write this, I think that at a minimum I deserved better than being called a "rude drunk". Mr. Gorman claimed to mix the drinks himself. I told the waitress that they weren't doubles by the way which is probably what got under his skin. He didn't make the drinks. We know the bartender who did. The same bartender I saw him high-five on my way out... He was looking for a fight. Shame on you and shame on a business that thinks that it's ok to call clients names. If it really was such a big deal how come Mr.Gorman didn't personally come to our table between the initial conversation and our departure? You could all use a class on customer service in a miscommunication. I highly encourage you to take your business elsewhere and plead with Farmhouse Group management and ownership of the Guild to take a step back and closely examine what happened tonight. The embarrassment is not on my end, but theirs. Good luck doing business like this. By the way, I parked my car next door, and took an Uber to my hotel next door as a precaution just to be safe. By the way, taking Uber was also communicated to the waitress during our meal. I would never in a million years condone driving under the influence and paced my consumption to be WELL UNDER the limit. Shame on the Guild and I hope the waitress who reads this knows that our issues weren't with her good service but with the two people who claimed to be "managers" AND turned out to be bullies. Had a great dinner at Guild & Company tonight with coworkers. The food was really delicious - wonderful bread with crunchy crust and soft inside with perfectly soft butter, delicious spinach & artichoke dip (although the serving was quite small), amazing salad with high-quality greens and great dressing... Then the steaks came - quite a large portion, and really tender and flavorful. Mine was cooked perfectly (and for $34, it had better be!). My side dish was Brussels sprouts, which were prepared differently - sort of a vinegar-type sauce. For dessert I had a maple cream of some sort with whipped cream. Everything was just so good!! The only real complaint that I have (and it's really not much of a complaint) is that the service seemed just a tad too slow. Granted, we were in no hurry, but the wait did seem quite long between appetizers and the arrival of the salad. Also, the waitstaff took great care to clean the table of all dishes and crumbs between courses - that was a step that maybe didn't have to be repeated a few times. We were hungry!! When the steaks finally arrived, nobody had silverware because they had just finished clearing it all away 2 minutes prior - but the waiter was there in 15 seconds with knives and forks. I love the concept of locally sourced food, but the cost does seem extreme for a Williston Road location. I'll be back, but maybe just once or twice per year instead of a couple times per month. read more

Love the atmosphere, and the connection to the open kitchen, where you can watch the food being prepared. Delicious, fresh salad. Had an amazing meal overall. Steak was cooked to perfection (medium-rare; no steak should ever be cooked more), and perfectly seasoned as well. Good service, but could have been a bit more attentive. The place was packed on Saturday night. We originally tried to book a table for 4 at 6p, but there were no online reservations until 8:30p. We decided to try a walk-in, and got a small square bar table. It's was a bit tight, as we were bumping knees. We started with the salad of the night which had pears, almonds, blue cheese... Great mix of flavors. Their butternut squash soup was really good, as I only got a spoonful taste from my other half. It was smooth and creamy. I had the brisket entree, which came with hush puppies, sautéed greens, Cole slaw and the brisket. The brisket was cooked well, but rather dry. If did come with a dressing and bbq-type sauce. So, as long as you dipped it, it was fine. Just seems odd since it's probably cooked with all the juices, but then taken out and dried out. The cole slaw was good, but really just shredded red cabbage with dressing. The greens required the most chewing, probably could've been cooked a bit longer to break down the fibers. Hubby got the veggie burger which he seems to like, it disappeared off his plate. Our friends got the mixed grill, which was definitely a good portion size for an entree, but it seemed small on the platter they served it on. Maybe better to serve it on a dinner plate, so it covers the plate better. Still my go to for Williston / airport area restaurant. read more

I have driven by this place MANY times and always thought, I think it might be a great place to eat. We finally gave it a try based on reviews and photos. We're so glad we did. The service was AMAZING (ask for Alexa). Many of the reviews referred to the beef tartar so I gave it a try. I'd go back just for that! My husband had the sweet corn soup app and loved it. For mains, he ordered a burger and I had the Calabrese Shrimp. The mix of flavours in my shrimp dish were a treat for my palate. This was amazing. My friend is a local and recommended we eat here. It was amazing. Fresh, warm bread to start with. An excellent draft selection (Allagash Trippel on tap!). Had the spinach and artichoke dip for an appetizer. Came with an adequate amount of crostini to enjoy this warm, gooey dip. They had a brisket sandwich as a special and both my friend and I went for that. Oh WOW! My friend and I both travel around the country for work and I've eaten great barbecue and this was superior. They top it with melted cheese and a crispy onion ring. The combination was heaven for the taste buds. The cheesecake dessert with the lemon curd and fresh whipped cream was the perfect way to end the meal. Our server was very attentive and made the meal delightful. This place has flat out one of the best rare hamburgers I have had at a restaurant. The place has a kind of a dark cozy atmosphere that almost skirts the line of feeling a tad chainy. But having a large portion of the kitchen open to the dining area and the liberal decoration with a multitude of meat grinders adds kind of a uniqueness. The service! Our server was very attentive, polite, and knowledgeable. And when when we answered "yes" to bread for the table, she headed to a table a few few feet away, grabbed a fresh load out of the oven, and proceeded to slice us fresh bread and bring it to the table. Nothing to complain about here. The food! I ordered the burger and was not disappointed. I ordered my burger rare, and not only did it come that way, I could very clearly see the distinctive red and white marbling in the raw beef in the center of the patty that let my know that the meat grinder were not for show and that this patty was made from freshly ground chuck. The taste confirmed the quality. I would recommend this place to anyone in the area looking to drop ~$16 on a high quality burger. read more

To start, the ambiance of the restaurant was absolutely lovely! My mom spoke to someone on the phone regarding a family member's food allergies and they were helpful and attentive as well. Our hostess was sweet and our waitress was nice enough, but the woman who dropped off our food rolled her eyes at us when we reminded her about the food allergy (severe, causes anaphylactic reaction) because plates were delivered to the wrong people. The food was just okay, especially for the price, and most of the dishes came completely cold. The steak was tough and not cooked to the liking requested and the salmon was basically raw and had to be sent back. I would describe the overall experience as "fine", but fine isn't ideal when you are paying around $30 for each entree. We are not local to Vermont but will definitely not be returning when we visit again. I would recommend visiting Pizzeria Verita or The Farmhouse instead. Staff was friendlier and food was hot and consistent. Most all of the reviews I leave on here are 5 stars, so I hate leaving slightly negative reviews, but the whole family left feeling disappointed and a bit offended :-( read more

After an abysmal day at the Burlington airport, our flight was cancelled and we had to stay another night in Burlington, we decided to try the Guild Tavern. Now this establishment was just a few short steps from our downtrodden motel,(another story)so we walked over looking for a reprieve and respite from a horrible day. Pleasantly surprised when we walked in, and without reservations, we opted to sit in the lounge area at the front of the restaurant. With comfy sofas, and over-sized chairs, this space was welcoming and just what we needed. The waitress who served us was patient, sweet, and truly a good example of great customer service. I wanted something that I normally wouldn't order, and a juicy burger seemed just the thing, so I got the blue cheese burger with sauteed mushrooms; probably the best burger I have ever had while eating out. I ordered it well done, and it was perfection. Crusty, juicy, with melty cheese oozing, it hit the spot. The fries were spectacular, and I have never described fries as spectacular. My husband ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and loved it. Along with two beers for my husband, and two glasses of Malbec for me, the evening was just what we wanted-an oasis at the end of a bad day. Kudos to the staff, the chef, and whoever did the decor, it was all spot on. Highly recommend if you are ever in Burlington, this is definitely a place to check out. read more

I have dined here as a local resident very, very often over the last few years. This is a well-run and high-quality establishment, and I relish the culinary offerings I have sampled and friendships I have made here. Management, waitstaff and (especially) barstaff are friendly and competent. The very rare issue with a dish or drink is quickly remedied. The bar scene (including seating there for dinner) gives you the best experience of conversation, people-watching and the choreography of the staff. No TV, and mobile phones are rarely out here ... this is a place to mingle! Mixology is to the fore - adventurous and knowledgeable use of spirits and aromatics. On-tap local beers are excellent and rotate often, giving you a good spectrum of what our great state has to offer. Wine list by the bottle is decent; selections by the glass are limited. Appetizers and entrees also rotate seasonally, to reflect the time of year. Yes, prices may be a little high compared to area restaurants, but you must remember that The Farmhouse Group sources as many ingredients locally as possible, and doesn't cave-in to mass-marketed food sources ... your dollars help promote Vermont's localvore culture! I wanted steak. Google Burlington steakhouse and Guild Tavern is on top. A mile or so from the hotel was ideal. On-line reservation took minutes and we were set. It's a decent dining room with a bar and lounge. We were seated at a small table for two right in line with the open kitchen. Initially I thought this would be a negative as there were several open booths and several occupied with couples. But we decided not to raise a stink and sat down. What we feared would be a distraction turned out to be fascinating. The four chefs were in tune with each other and worked perfectly together. Our server Quinn was on point and visited us often delivering drinks entrees and dessert promptly. Cocktails were fantastic. My steak and shrimp platter was well plated, cooked perfectly and delicious. My wife's salmon was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The veggies on both plates were well seasoned and cooked without destroying the natural textures. The creme brûlée was prepared while we watched. They like their blowtorches in that kitchen. Watching the staff working together was interesting. No yelling or ego trips like you see on TV. It was great. In the end there was nothing to complain about. We crossed paths with one of the chefs on the way out and complemented him and thanked him for letting us watch the works. It takes balls to do that. We'll go back! read more

We dined on their first night open to the public and every thing was really superb. We can't wait to go again!! My ribeye was seasoned and grilled to perfection. The lobster was so delicious, despite being a small serving of lobster, wasn't regretted. For sides, we opted for the creamed spinach and potato leek gratin and both were great. In addition, my steak was served over mashed potatoes which were done to perfection. Don't miss the sauce bérnaise which is so rarely seen on menus or done right anywhere anymore outside of France. In fact, theirs was topnotch. It instantly reminded me of the best in NOLA, Montreal and Paris. I was in foodie heaven. We shared the mocha mouse cake. It really exceeded our expectations, so much so, we regretted sharing it and not ordering a separate one for each of us. If you love rich chocolate and lots of it, you'll love it. My only criticism of our visit was the bread plate brought with our salad. It consisted of one slice of Red Hen Bakery bread cut in half. Yes, I literally mean just one slice cut in half. As much as I like Red Hen's bread, this was very underwhelming and out of place compared with the rest of the experience and meal. It lowered our expectations and perceptions right out of the gate. Perhaps I'm spoiled, and enjoy a good warm bread when I dine out, but I really expected a basket of a variety of fresh breads like you'd find at most fine big city steakhouses. (e.g. Peter Luger NYC, Moishe's Montreal, Joe Stone Crab Miami FL, The Palm, Capital Grille, etc.) Or at least a nice small loaf of a really good house made bread like you'd find at Gibby's Montreal or even the otherwise vastly incomparable LongHorn steakhouse a few miles away. This is the best steak in Burlington. I've eaten here twice now. The first time I ordered the NY Strip, the second time my fiancé and I split the ribeye for two. Both times the meat was simply superb. This is a real steakhouse, not some wanna be place like The Scuffer. Thick cut, aged local beef. Simple sides as the real star of this meal is the steak. The food is not cheap, but totally worth the price. I've seen a few reviewers complaining about the service. While I'm not in a position to doubt their own experiences, I can say that both times our service was friendly and fast. You can only cook a steak so fast, even if its only done to medium rare. I felt like we were checked on enough, they kept our drinks full and table cleared. read more
