Thought this would be good, but it was quite the opposite. The food was bad. Pasta had way too much salt. The steak was ordered medium but came out so rare it was barely cooked. Sent the steak back and after at least 5 minutes the same steak came back and it was about the same. Service was slow. Will not return. read more

So desperately needed in sleepy Glencoe, this place wins with its pretty decor, zinc bar and professional service, but alas, falls short on its food. Anyone who thinks creamy Italian Burrata drizzled with aged balsamic belongs on a bed of astringent pseudo-kimchi (ugh) should take a good hard look at their menu, and maybe seek some professional culinary advice. We ate here twice - fish was thin and dry, steak frites and roasted chicken were meh. Bar is fun, wine pours generous. Please bring in some food pros to tweak the menu. I thought the space was nice and the noise level was high but tolerable. I had the Tarte Flambee Forestiere appetizer which lacked flavor. When my entrée was served the waiter never came to check if everything was okay. When he finally showed up I ordered a drink and some sauce for my food which never showed up. I had to ask for my drink 4 times before the Hostess finally brought it to me. by then I was almost finished with my dinner. How would I rate the service? What service? Not Good. Saturday night 5:30 reservation. Service awful. Food under seasoned. Had a "tart" for an app. It's Actually a flatbread. It was "meh" at best. The duck was over cooked and no crispy skin. The burger was decent . The pomme frits over salted to the point of being unedible. For an apology our waiter gave us a complimentary dessert. An apple crisp that we waited 20 minutes for. Bunch of average granola thrown on top of some undercooked apples with a tiny scoop of ice cream. Will never go again. Avoid at all costs. read more

This was our first trip to Guildhall but it will not be our last. Everything about the place, from its decor to service to menu to food is inviting and appealing. Our server was knowledgeable, prompt and very friendly. She answered all of our questions thoroughly and enthusiastically. Guildhall is a nice addition to downtown Glencoe. The architecture and design of the restaurant is beautiful. Antique charm with modern elegance. You'll have a stunning view of the place no matter where you sit. The hosts were kind, friendly, and talkative. The minute you walk in the door, they are there to greet you with happy smiles and pleasant conversations. The two times that we have gone we did not have to wait, our reserved table was ready to go. The restaurant is extremely loud! Even sitting at a tiny round table (which felt tight for a party of 8) we could not hear each other across the table. That was a huge bummer. The food is pricy. You will finish everything on your plate because the portions are just enough. My biggest complaint is with the waitstaff. The waitress was hard to flag down when you needed something, maybe she had too many tables. In stark contrast, the busboys were constantly refilling water glasses, which made it feel like they were hovering over us the entire meal. They also clear plates WAY too quickly. 4 out of 8 people had to stop them from removing the plates from the table before we were finished. It felt like we were being hurried and rushed into wrapping up. There was this aggressive and pushed quality to the serving that made everyone at the table extremely uncomfortable. When we first sat down, we asked the waitress if she could split the bill. We were splitting by sides of the table, and she said it wasn't a problem. When we asked for the check, she was reminded of this split and said she would do it. When we got the two checks, they were incorrect. Rather than bugging her to redo it, we settled it amongst the two families. She did not charge us for one glass of wine (we had ordered several alcoholic beverages and this was the only one not on the check.) When an honest dad pointed out her mistake, she didn't apologize, she didn't even thank him for being honest, she just said she would fix it. And fix it she did, she redid his bill an added the drink to the final tab. We left the table feeling chased out by the restaurant wanting to make a quick turnover. Our bill was around $200, and not everyone had full meals, so I can imagine they like to turnover tables as quickly as possible if that's what they end up getting! But as we walked out the door, the hosts were there to wish us well. The total Oreo effect, good service-bad service-good service. I am the first one to compliment great customer service, and I feel like Guildhall has a ways to go. read more

The place looks nice but the food was terrible.. Everything was tasteless, the quality was not great and the menu was very outdated. This place does not measure up to the great restaurants in Chicago. There have to be better options in the suburbs. The owners should really consider observing some of the great places in the city and learn from them. This is not a foodie place, but I did have a great time with my friends. read more

Can't pay me to return... I was excited because it's a new place in a town that's usually deserted by 6 pm. Alas, got excited for nothing... It was disappointment after disappointment the whole evening. 1. We walked in, and it was incredibly loud. We mean LOUD! Assault on your senses loud, hurt your ears loud! Granted it was the weekend, but still... 2. The hostess asked if we wanted to sit by the kitchen or in the main dining room, to which we immediately said "KITCHEN" as it would hopefully be a bit less noisy. Turns out, there was no open table by the kitchen, so we were walked right back into the locomotive loud main dining room. Did I mention it was LOUD? 3. We ordered drinks to start, and it took about 25 min. to get them, but they were good. 4. Appetizer: I wanted the oysters on the half shell, so I asked the server, for half a dozen...To which she responded "sorry, you get 6 or 12, that's it"... Had to explain to her that half a dozen is 6... They were no kumamotos, blue points, or Chesapeake bays, but they were ok. 5. Wine: I ordered the 2009 Terra Prima and everyone agreed, it tasted like the water you get when you rinse the equipment, or mix half a bottle of wine, and half of water. Weak, and devoid of any of the flavor, or aroma that ANY of the grapes in that mix would impart (Franc, Grenache & Syrah). It did open up after a while, but still remained quite safely in the disappointing realm. I don't fancy myself a wine connoisseur, but travel quite frequently to Europe, especially Spain, (and have tasted countless wines, cheap and expensive) and nothing (not even a 3 euro bottle) there tastes as bad as what we got served. 6. Main Entrée: I ordered the most expensive dish: The Prime Ribeye, and it was just blah...perfectly cooked, but blah nonetheless... I really wished there was a salt shaker at the table, to impart SOME flavor to it... 7. My wife ordered the walleye, and although it was nicely done, and tasted good, it was just a piece of fish on one side of the plate. Nothing else. They never finished plating it (it should have eggplant puree, pepper jam and arugula salad to complement it. 8. I didn't dare, but one of us ordered some desert, and they brought something else instead. We were told they didn't have it, whatever that means... It was on the house, mind you, but not what we ordered... 8. More than anything, it seems like everyone is excited, not because of the food, but because it's the new place to see and be seen...judging by the table next to us, where all the soccer moms came by to say hi, as if they hadn't seen each other in years, but talked about that afternoon's activity, which they all attended.. Two bright spots: 1. the pisco sours were just like the ones my wife remembers from a trip to Peru. 2. The pommes frites were the best tasting part of the meal...and we learned that from stealing a few from our friend's plate. Bottom line: LOUD, bad wine, tasteless steak, unfinished plating, wait staff (at least our server) needs more training, an hour and a half to get our meal, not enough dessert to cover demand, and EXPENSIVE to boot... I don't mind paying for good food, good wine and good service, but this wasn't it, in any of those categories. It was too much to complain about at the time, so we just won't be back. The food was very tasty and the variety of dishes was more than sufficient. However, the portions were unexpectedly small, particularly for the City-style high prices charged ($32 for a 2oz piece of salmon??). The service was spotty, with servers other than our own actually fulfilling our requests for salt/pepper and a spoon. The Bouillabaisse was very good and our Kid's menu Mac & Cheese was actually really good. In the end, it comes down to value. I don't mind spending $120+ for 3 people but I certainly don't want to go home hungry. read more

I was looking forward to my first time at Guild Hall this evening . My 5 friends and I, 2 of whom had just discovered Guild Hall a week or two earlier and had nothing but nice things to say about it. This was the reason we were there, to experience the enjoyable time they had there! We were all very happy sitting at the bar. We ordered a few appetizers, wine and beer. The bartenders, especially Gilberto, could not have been more pleasant and attentive! The atmosphere of the bar area just happened to be a very brightly lit area, which is the lighting we are used to every day, all day during our work hours. I think we were all looking forward to a dimly lit area to finally sit back and relax in! All we requested was that we would really appreciate the lights toned down. Well, apparently the owners in their meeting were more important to talk amongst themselves in the bright lights, than to accommodate patrons whom had spent quite a bit of money in a short time and certainly were planning on staying and spending a lot more! We were not going to let that ruin our evening. We immediately walked out, only to see they had dimmed the lights as soon we left! Thank you Guild Hall ! We and our friends and anyone who might mention this restaurant will surely get an earful from us! I've never done a review like this before and I'm normally not like this but I just felt like, wow! Happy Holidays to you ignorant owners! All it took was something as simple as dimming a few lights to make a few hard working women enjoy a well deserved evening out with each other! We ended up with a wonderful restaurant with a wonderful wait staff that truly appreciated us , and treated us with respect! That wonderful place happens to be Beelows in Highland Park!! read more

Nice interiors and vibrant crowd with owners very much present. Obviously a go to Saturday night spot for the "date night" crowd from the neighborhood. Families dining as well as singles at the bar. Dined early on a Sat. Night and the waiter was already behind with his tables. Bread eventually came out warm and tasted homemade. Tuna appetizer was small and kale salad with pomegranates was served with bitter dressing Husband had non descript chicken and I had salmon special. While everything tasted normal during dinner- besides the vinegar salad dressing- something was not right as I became violently ill around 3:00 am the next morning. Fish perhaps? This obviously can happen at any restaurant but is a concern. All in all at 160.00 for app, 2 drinks, 2 wines, salads, "small portion special" and mediocre entre it was a pretty steep bill to not leave raving about the place. Really would love to give this place more stars. Food was delicious (we had the mushroom and Gruyere flatbread, yum, the strawberry salad special - the best I have ever had, and 3 of our party of 4 ordered the pork chops, phenomenal), space is gorgeous - love the lighting and the white on white without being pretentious. Loved the antiqued mirrors and mix of white/shabby chic. Just beautiful. But... yes, the noise level is at times ridiculous. We walked in and had I not already read the reviews that mentioned this we might have walked out. People at the table to the left of the hostess stand were literally screaming at each other. You might have had to do that to be heard among all the other noise. Just, a LOT for 9pm. They screwed up our reservation, had us close out our tab with the bar where we were pleasantly waiting for our table and scramble to pay up and get over to the hostess area only to be made to wait another 5 minutes then told to wait again. Of course the seats/space we had waited for so long at the bar were long gone. Then the service. Wow, this was such an amazing mix of friendly/bad that I feel bad saying how terrible it was. This guy was so funny and nice, but ~ I have worked in food service all through college and know the % the restaurant makes on the bar is a reason it should be pushed, and hard, but this guy avoided our drinks like he thought we were an AA meeting. We were never offered another drink after the ones we brought from the bar. I finally begged for a wine list and 1/2 our table did get a glass of wine with dinner, but the all of the following drink orders were completely ignored. We were served dessert and 1/2 of us got the coffee we ordered, the rest ignored, as well as all the after dinner drinks. Based on tip % alone this guy cost himself $10+ just for the drinks he ignored that would have been added to the bill. Why!~?!? I am reading a ton of issues on service. Sounds like a retraining session is due. I know service is really based on the person so would go back, just hoping for someone else to serve us. read more

I've had numerous meals here since Guildhall opened. I loved it initially, then the chef changed and I was not impressed. After staying away for more than a year, I've been back three times since January. The first was with my guy for a nightcap after a party. We enjoyed a bottle of cab at the bar. Great vibe, service, wine. As the night wound down, the manager spent time with us, talking about the various spirits they serve and giving us a couple samples. He was great as was the bartender. Then I went back on two separate occasions for GNO dinners. Both times we were impressed with the atmosphere, service and food. Short ribs were very tasty and melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the beef tenderloin was superb, perfectly cooked to medium rare. The only thing we didn't like were the Brussels sprouts with carmel, but our server took it upon herself to remove them from our bill. We stayed for hours both times and never felt pressured to leave. Bonus points for the lovely decor throughout...bar, dining area and ladies room are exceptional unlike most suburban restaurants. I'm sure we will keep coming back especially as the weather warms up, the windows open and al fresco dining resumes. read more

My husband and I truly enjoyed our first visit to this very new restaurant in the northern suburb of Glencoe. The menu is not huge - but it does offer options that should please everyone, with two fish dishes (plus a salmon special), two pastas, a hamburger, steak frites and a couple of others. I highly recommend the "wishing for spring" specialty cocktail (it seemed perfectly appropriate right now in Chicago) and the kale salad, which was quite large and delicious; the spring pea soup, the salmon special and the chocolate Crema dessert (as our server told us, "that's what they eat in heaven"). If the other menu items are as good as these, then you will be very pleased. Our server was perfectly attentive, knowledgeable and friendly; and the ambience of the restaurant was lovely. It is so nice to have another good restaurant serving excellent food in the burbs; I'm sure we will bring friends and patronize Guildhall frequently. read more

What a breath of fresh air! A hip new restaurant with excellent food, great service, and classy decor in downtown Glencoe! Surely a few creative adjustments could make it more conversation friendly even when it's packed on the weekends. My boyfriend and I love to dine out and are always looking for something new close to home on the North Shore, which is hard to find these days. Amazing service began with a phone call to reserve a table. The hostess stated that she would take our name ahead for one of the tables for two opening up soon and that we should ask for her by name. She honored that promise and sat us promptly right away on a busy Saturday night. I am somewhat of a restaurant snob, being a foodie, personal chef (trained at Kendall), and having had the fortune of dining in restaurants all over the map. Though I love to indulge once in awhile, I am always seeking nutritious heart healthy options on every menu. That can be a challenge in a place like Guildhall where the chef has a love of "red meat and bold flavors" (according to the waiter). No challenge there. The chef turned out a series of beautiful dishes starting with the Crudo (sashimi appetizer) which flavorful but light, Oysters Rockefeller, delicious with just the right amount of richness and salt, followed by the baby kale and chicory salad with lots of nutrition packed goodies like avocado and pomegranate, and the main entree of Striped Bass, expertly prepared and recommended by our waiter. The outstanding meal was finished with a most unusual dessert: a Mixed fruit consomme prepared with Sauvignon Blanc. Now I know your thinking, consomme? Really? Sounds like a weak finish? On the contrary, it was so divine, we savored every drop. Service was professional and prompt, despite the packed dining room and much to the pleasure of our waiter who had alluded to an occasional delay from the kitchen within the first 3 weeks of opening. He was very passionate about food and excited about being part of this great new restaurant. Overall, kudos to Guildhall in its first few weeks. We'll be back again soon! read more

My husband I went to dinner with a friend at Guildhall for the first time last night. We definitely were not disappointed. We started off with Tarte Flambe Forestire which was absolutely fantastic. I love onions on a flatbread or pizza but the caramelized onions and crème fraiche made this the best I've ever eaten. Now if I can only figure out how to replicate it at home. For dinner the three of us shared our entrees. We ordered the Roasted Amish Chicken Thigh (new menu item), Grilled Flat Iron Steak, and Grilled Prime Pork Loin and we were extremely happy with the choices. The boneless chicken was in a paella style with Andouille sausage. The dish had a nice heat kick to it that came to you slowly and then left. You really got to savor and enjoy all the flavors without lingering heat. Both the steak and the pork were grilled to perfection and tasted great. We tried a couple of side dishes and my favorite was the Brussels Sprouts. I love roasted Brussels sprouts but what made these stand out was the agave nectar that's added to the dish. The agave gave the dish a wonderfully sweet and caramelized flavor. For dessert we went all out and tried a couple of Sorbets, which were unbelievably creamy and delicious, plus we had the Chocolate Remeaux and Carrot Cake. Our dinning experience was over two hours and we never once felt as if we were being rushed out. Just wow. Would give zero stars but that, for some reason is not an option. First of all, we arrived and were not even acknowledged for at least ten minutes. The manager, Phil was roaming around the room like a bumbling idiot and seemed totally oblivious to the fact that the host stand was unattended. When we were finally seated, it quickly became apparent that the noise level in this restaurant is absolutely deafening, you can barely hear each other talk. We sat for over 15 minutes unattended before our waiter finally came over. He didn't even bother to introduce himself (some idiot with a ridiculous beard, which should be shaved for work in a fine dining restaurant), and took 20 minutes to deliver drinks. After drinks, we sat another 20 without anyone taking our appetizer orders. Finally grabbed someone to take our order cause at this point it was an hour of sitting and no food. Absolutely inexcusable no matter how busy you are. They didn't even bring the bread until we had our drinks. As for the food when it finally came, the pasta here is terrible and not prepared correctly. It is all clumpy and there is barely any sauce, could make better at home. The steak was decent, and the lamb was too salty and the sauce was disgusting. No one at this place knows how to run a restaurant. The managers are barely present, and the servers leave you sitting forever without even coming by to ask if everything is ok, presumably because they know that the answer is "no, everything is not ok". The managers lack of care seems to have carried over to his hiring because no one here is cut out for this kind of restaurant. If the food was outstanding it wouldn't be so bad, but waiting an hour for food that can only be described as mediocre is just a flat out waste of time. Also very expensive. read more
