I purchased a Fender Uke from this location. I brought it to my local guitar store in town to have them show me how to use an electric instrument, this is my first one. Imagine my surprise when I found out that the installed Fender tuner didn't work. I called this Guitar Center and they told me to return my uke. Meanwhile, the owner of the store I was in called the Fender company, and was told this uke's installed tuner (and maybe all Fenders, IDK) is designed to only work when it's plugged into an amp. WHAT???? I called my store, they didn't know this very basic fact about FENDERS? Shouldn't they know that? How can someone who works in a guitar store not know the installed tuners don't work on something they sell (unless plugged into an amp)? Additionally, when I purchased this uke, they just handed it to me and went back to their computers, they didn't ask if I needed to know anything about what I just spent hundreds of dollars on. They could have asked me "do you need any help understanding this instrument?" Nope. They just went back to their business. There was no personal service in this store at all. He gave us all the info, helped us load the set in our car and got us going in less than 10 minutes. This is partially my fault, so I take some blame for not using my whole brain - I recently decided to pick up guitar again after about 15 years, I went into GC to pick up a new acoustic. I found the one that I wanted in the damaged-sale section (1st mistake) and saw that it had the tiniest crack on the neck. I spoke to the sales counter and they assured me that it was superficial and it had to be marked up as damaged for it, and that it wouldn't be an issue. I went ahead and made the purchase ($300 - second mistake) After playing it twice, I noticed that the crack grew exponentially down the neck so I looked into getting an opinion from a repair professional. After looking at it, he stated that the damage would cost more than the guitar is worth to fix, and that guitar center never should have put it on the sale rack - superficial damage is one thing, but selling an item that is destined to break less than a month just seems dishonest to me, especially with a "no refunds" policy attached to it. So hopefully management steps up and does the right thing by me. read more

They do not process refunds. We cancelled our lessons with the manager in November. We were charged an additional month in December. We have been going back and forth trying to get a refund for almost 6 months. Corporate denies refunds regardless of the reason. They are unable to process refunds in store. Today I came in to buy Thing One a Christmas gift (yeah, I know what I said, I'd never buy another instrument for him after the Double bass). For those who have lost count, this is where we stand with the instrument count: Thing One 1 Double bass 2 Acoustic Guitar 3 Tuba 4 Electric Guitar (Thanks, Guitar Center) Thing Two 1 Baby Grand Piano 2 Violin Your Friendly Neighborhood Yelp OCA (aka me) 1 Violin (AND BROKE)!!!! When I came in, I was greeted and asked if I required assistance. I explained that I didn't as I did not want Thing One to catch on to the fact that I was getting him a gift as he accompanied me in the store. Once thing One lost interest in looking around and went back to the car, I went and spoke with the employee who greeted me when I came in. I asked him to take the guitar down from the wall that I thought would be appropriate for Thing One so I could hear it. The employee handed it to me as if I was going to play it, Ha! I explained that I only played one instrument (for the last 30 years) and it wasn't that! The employee played a few chords for me and I was able to hear the warm tones in the guitar. I then purchased the guitar with insurance. After the purchase was complete, another employee walked the guitar to my car and placed it in the trunk (without Thing One being the wiser). Sold me B-stock opened and used items as new on 3 different occasions. Condescending employees simply hanging out in groups of 3 or 4 at the register instead of assisting customers. There are all sorts of guitars and equipment here. It's fun to look around and see all the items. There are some microphones as well. If you're into keyboards they have those too. We mainly go to sell equipment and they offer pretty good compensation for sales. Parking was pretty easy and people were pretty attentive. read more

I live in central Austin. The only reason I went to this GC location is because the other two I'd been to have been consistently underwhelming and disappointing. I wish I caught the name of the young man with the black hair and nose ring that helped my wife and me. He approached us (never happens at the other locations) and asked if we needed anything. I rattled off 8 different random items from cables and adapters to drums kits and guitar amps. The guy had a wonderful attitude, scooped everything up for me without forgetting a thing, and even offered me a discount on an unboxed item. I've walked into plenty of GC"s and other music stores and I guess I don't give that vibe. I'm an experienced Bass Player and rarely do I buy new. They are just not made the same anymore unless I have a few Thou in my pocket. We can make shitty sound good HAHA. I have even asked for a price on an item and was Told it is ALOT. ALOT is not a number it's that vibe I give out. Walked into Round Rocks GC and a guy named Billy was holding a used 600-watt 210 cabinet that was under 200 bucks (shut up you say). It's Guitar Center not Bass Guitar Center. Young Hispanic guy no name tag let me try it out and I needed a Bass Head. GCs love their fender bass combo's. I never thought he would hook up a Mark Bass 350 bass head they have had since Christmas of last year which remember Costs ALOT. 210's sounded Greeeat!! Oh' I bought them for sure. I know the brand have the 410s at home. So, why the 4 stars not five? The Mark Head has been up there so long that the pods were cracking and making my new USED 210s sound bad that's why. Oh' and not to make this store sound bad but if you're a BASS PLAYER go to the GC in South Austin on Mopac. they have BASSES to choose from outside of Fender's. read more

Come in and ask for James....he is AMAZING! We came in for a keyboard, and they were clearly very busy and likely understaffed. Despite that, James was calm, kind, and was working very hard to make sure I was getting all the parts to my keyboard package from the back. I could see how hard he was working with everyone, as other customers kept asking him questions, but he was kind and helpful to them, too. I remained patient and understanding, and that paid off because he thanked me for that and honored an advertised price that I wasn't sure they would give. We walked out feeling like James had really taken care of us, and that we also got an outstanding deal. Whenever we come back I will call ahead and even ask if James is there. read more

I went into this guitar center to have my trustrod adjusted and my strings replaced. The tech ended up saying he needed to replace one of the springs in the body while doing this which was something I did not request. While doing this he began to take off the bridge by unscrewing it with a with a drill at an inappropriately fast speed. He began to do this and while watching him I heard the guitar make a loud crack noise and he said "yep the bridge cracked". He denied that he was the one who cracked it which is completely untrue because now the guitar will not tune because the bridge will be out of alignment if it is screwed in. I have a video of me playing it with it in tune a week before this happened with a time stamp and location on my iphone. He told me that I didnt have to pay so he did not write me up a receipt, to which i responded that i wasnt expecting to pay, to which he aggressively and loudly responded "I DIDN'T BREAK YOUR GUITAR". He then stormed off angrily and I foolishly didnt ask for a receipt because my emotions were clouding my judgment at the time . I went back 2 days later after talking to corporate and having them tell me that it was unacceptable and I should go back to have the situation amended. Upon examination we discovered that he had also drilled a screw in too far and it was sticking out the other side of the body. The manager at first offered to let me keep my guitar and have them give me one that was of equal value to mine. He then brought over a guitar and changed what he said, saying that he would give me a guitar in exchange for my guitar which he would then fix and resell to cover the cost of giving me a guitar, (a ridiculous proposition) saying that it would be worth more that what it would cost to have it fixed(why am I having to compensate them for their mistake?). The other option he gave me would be to have me go get a quote on what it would cost to be repaired at another store, to which he would compare it to a quote of a repair shop of his choice and then we would "meet in the middle". This is an absolutely unacceptable way to conduct business as it is completely their fault that my guitar is broken and they are expecting me to compensate for whatever losses they have on their end.I was was told by the corporate office that I should submit a complaint to guitar center's website on the support page but I would rather simply have this problem amended so that I can continue to have a business relationship with guitar center. The stock is primarily lower end, the 3 employees encountered on this visit were, well, less than intelligent or helpful and no one seemed to want to be hassled with taking my money. Whether it's a customer ready to spend $2000 or $20 a business should make it possible for a customer to check out. Thank goodness for the better stores around the Austin area like Austin Guitar House and even the grumpy old guys at Rez. There are band rehearsal rooms, each one named after such greats as "Jimi" "Janis" "Stevie" (how uber-cool is that?!), and each complete with walls of top-of-the-line amplifiers, mics, a drum kit, guitar & music stands, even stage lights that offer the ambiance of a real gig, and GET THIS--they clean up after each band & even disinfect the microphones! Wow. But wait, there's more... As if the price of the rehearsal rooms wasn't low enough ($14-$18/hour), they provide you with a complimentary CD of your practice when you're through! Talk about a time saver for a working band--that's worth the price in itself! Do they give Lessons? Oh, the BEST!--they hand-picked instructors that are not only well-educated, but also COOL and down-to-Earth with their instruction. Hey...y'all lost a bunch of business, all because you chose to ignore me. I was on vacation this last week to build out my home studio, and needed some e-drums, an audio interface, a camera for students and other minor items (cables, some hand percussion, etc.). Last weekend I went to the Round Rock store and asked a couple of the folks there about a camera (the Zoom Q2n). Couldn't get a name, nor anyone to check inventory for me...went outside and found another store to get the camera. I wound up buying Roland TD50-K e-drums, a Focusrite audio interface, and the cables needed to hook them up to my laptop. I got them from Capitol Music here in Austin, and they did amazing by me (grazie, Giuseppe, mille grazie!) I had to drive a little further than I wanted, Igot joy in the end. I just got flat ignored at Guitar Center, and again today when trying to buy a drum monitor. You had lots of opportunities, and ya blew it by ignoring me not just today, but this last Thurs and Friday as well...non-recommend. read more

I took it to this Guitar Center and the young man not only replaced the string but made an adjustment to the truss rod to stop it happening again. No Charge!!! What?? I adore nerds of any stripe, and the guitar nerds at the Guitar Center in Round Rock are top-flight, super dedicated, super helpful and friendly uber-nerds!! I love them. I priced out a guitar case online for my husband for Xmas, and found the best price at Guitar Center. Having the case shipped to the store for pickup saved me a chunk of change. When I got to the store, the super helpful guys got the case out of the back, checked to make sure it was undamaged (ooo-ing and ahhh-ing over my lovely choice) and they went the extra mile to make sure I got credit for a coupon I was sent after I'd made my purchase. Then they carried the case out to my car, shook my hand, and urged me to come back and spend some time shopping. Everyone was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and fun. I love going to Guitar Center! But this guitar center has some of the most unfriendly guitar staff. Every time I go to them to get guitar accessories, the guitar associates are nowhere to be found, and when you do find them, they aren't very friendly or helpful. Today, I walked in to ask a question about a guitar I just bought from the Guitar Center off Anderson (where the staff is awesome!!!) and one of the five associate behind the counter said hi and immediately picked up a guitar. He did not ask if I needed help, instead just started tuning the guitar, then looked up and said "go ahead..." Then when I told him that the guitar I bought was missing a part, he immediately stopped me, and told me that wasn't what they did and I should call the company. Which I have no problem with, but he showed no concern, and then started playing the guitar again. I turned around and walked out, stunned by the most horrible and inconsiderate "customer service" I've ever received. I live in Round Rock, and this location is more convenient to go to, but I think I will be going to the one off Anderson when I need anything now. read more
