I recently had a great experience at Guitar Center in Marana, AZ. I ordered a used guitar from another store. When it arrived, it wasn't as expected. Johnny, who I believe is the manager (not sure), suggested I make use of their return policy. I could take it home and make sure of my decision. When I decided to return it, he spent a lot of time with me choosing another guitar, walking me through each step. I then had their guitar tech (Gunner) set it up for me. He did a great job. Staff is pretty solid here, especially the luthier. Very personable and spent some time offering up info and help which was appreciated since I am new to playing the particular instrument I brought in. In general if the staff isn't busy you'll usually have someone greet you and offer help. It's nice to have a physical store that you can go to try out equipment, get repairs, ask questions and purchase products. read more

I heard of All horror stories about Guitar Center, but the one on River and Orange Grove was awesome. I live near there and never had any negative issues. They helped me with a new sound system for my Bluegrass band, spent a lot of time comparing. I also bought a used guitar from them at a good price. I went there a few days ago and saw they had a tremendous inventory of good acoustic guitars. I was able to compere them side by side, Martins, Taylor's, and even Gibson. I had never tried a Gibson before, I own Martins and Taylor's ; I've been after a Martin D-18, tried one there, nice sound. For the heck of it I tried the Gibson Studio J45; it blew me away, best guitar I ever played. Should have bought it right there, but I don't like making quick decisions on expensive equipment. It was listed at $2399; which I found online matches most others. guitar Center claims to have a price match guarantee . Reverb offered up a Brand New one for $1919; so I'm going to give Guitar Center a chance to match that? We'll see. I'll let you know how it goes. I'd rather buy it locally from GC, but I'd need the price match. Reverb also offered free shipping. read more

I went to guitar center looking for a new acoustic guitar and was helped by a wonderful associate. As a relative novice to guitars he walked me through some different options, asked me what I wanted and liked stylistically and what my budget was. While I ended up with a guitar about $100 more than I was looking to spend I am very happy with the suggestion and assistance. I walked away with a beautiful Martin acoustic. The only knock I would give is that for somewhere named guitar center their selection on acoustics was very small especially for the mid price range. ($500-$600). In fact the associate who helped me went in back to dig through the new shipments to find me something that fit my range. They had plenty of low end options and high end guitars but if you want something in the middle you might have to wait for them to order it. read more

I'm new to Guitar Center and walked into my first one EVER right at 11am today in hopes I could get some one on one for all the questions I had and gear I was planning on buying (spare acoustic, amp, pedal, chord, picks etc). I ended up walking out without spending a freakin dime. Wasted over 3 hours of drive time just to do that. Seems all the rep's were being pulled in different directions (already at that early time for petty crap) and were more concerned with getting the smaller sales in and out of the store along with signing people up for the GC credit card etc, than dealing with someone like me who had many questions but got NONE answered. I will never go back to one of those brick and mortar stores ever again. read more

Very unhelpful and disinterested sales associates. Website listed light Martin strings available but surprise, no, and was told they really only count them every 6 months! Drove 30 minutes 1 way for a sorry bout that! No prices on leather straps, the best one was trapped at the back and hung so that many other straps would have to be pulled off to get at it. Lingering at the area and looking like help might be indicated does not work! Was enlightened by how unnecessary the trip was, probably won't be back! sorry 'bout that! read more

For weeks i have researched recording cassettes directly into my MAC, but got low-grade solutions at best. Then someone said to go the Guitar Center for real information. I did and was very impressed! Carson is an expert in this exact interface and probably many others. He sold me a Scarlet box that records stereo cassettes while removing the noise! CARSON is great! Hi Called this GC looking for a power supply. Said I live far away. Took them a few minutes to determine. I then asked if the stocked a particular guitar and was told "I'd have to check stock but since your coming in any way you can look". Just total "too busy to help you attitude". Had a great experience at guitar center. Immediately, when I walked in I was greeted by Luis who wanted to know what I needed. I only needed to get my guitar tuned and he was glad to do it and I mentioned that I was interested in guitar lessons as well. Julia gave me a detailed breakdown about the guitar lessons and introduced me to one of the guitar instructors, Dustin. Overall, it was a great experience with all three employees because they were genuinely happy to help me. I will be returning back for lessons and other future business that I need. read more

First off, I am in California. I ordered a used Rocktron Gainiac online from the Tucson store. I just received the unit today. The moron who packaged the unit enclosed the wrong power supply which would have damaged the unit. I am unable to plug it in to verify. The Rocktron Gainiac requires a 9 volt AC power supply with a minimum of 1.5 amp current. The dumb@$$ sent me a 9 volt DC power supply rated at 150 milliwatts. This power supply would more than likely damage the unit. I am unable to verify because I am intelligent enough not to use the wrong value power supply. In good faith, I paid for a working quality effects unit and I cannot even use it. This kind of incompetence really pisses me off. This makes me wonder if Guitar Center hires morons. I expect a functional power supply and an undamaged unit or I want my money back. read more

I have been pleased with this store before but I am extremely impressed with the service I received most recently. My guitar developed a crack on the front and they helped me with my warranty claim (highly suggest you get one when you buy one) and took good care of me through the whole process. Everything was taken care of and I had an e-card for the entire value in 5 days! I am so happy to shop for my new guitar and to work with these guys again in the future for any needs I might have. I'm a person who has been into a lot of Guitar Centers all over the U.S. and A...(Sorry for the Borat reference) And this Guitar Center is one of the best ones I've visited. Yes.. I know Guitar Center gets a bad rap on certain websites (I'm talking to you, Reddit.) But this store is REALLY good. It's a delicate balance the salespersons has to achieve to giving good customer service by engaging with their clientele. And that's typically what happens when I go Guitar Center. It's either feast or famine. Either I experience the "full-court press" by being blindsided with product just to get a sale and meet quota or I'm just entirely ignored by the salesperson. For this reason, I typically know what I'm looking for when I walk into the store by already doing my research. This was the first time since early 2013 I had been to Tucson, and since then, this Guitar Center had opened of business. Today I walked into this store and started to browse the store's inventory. The store is nicely laid out and all the product is placed so one can have a good "hands-on" experience when looking at a potential purchase. I had noticed that there were a good selection of guitars (both six-string and bass)and their respective accesories. Even a section that I don't visit often, DJ equipment, was impressive (the Guitar Center in El Paso, Texas should take a lesson or two from this store). I walked into the enclosed acoustic guitar section and made conversation with a salesperson (I can't remember his name (skinny fella, with medium colored brown hair and a thick medium length beard) was very courteous and helpful. He and I talked about the pros and cons of Martin Guitars and Taylor guitars. Throughout our 40 minute conversation, Not once was he trying to force a sale. He was professional and knowledgeable about the store's inventory, and he is definitely an asset to the store. I end this review by highly recommending this store. Every music professional or music hobbyist in Tucson, Arizona should consider themselves lucky to have a store like this. read more

So my experience as follows: i ordered a electric guitar bundle online to play Rock-smith on 10/29/2015 to have it delivered to the store, after receiving an email that your item is on the way (but at the store website it stated that it was available at the store) and that i would be notified (was not specified how! i left my phone number and of course email) never got a call or email to tell me it arrived... so after what i thought was enough time (11/04/15) i called and they said it was ready for pickup :/ i just wonder for how long did they have it!!! but o well i went to pickup, the staff Super friendly!!! No complaints there! of course i also did not get the guitar i wanted i ordered an ebony opaque guitar, i ordered that one since i did not want to worry about fingerprints and that stuff, instead i got a black shinny one the girl was cool about it, saying that they could customize my bundle and get the guitar i wanted but I'm into the kind of thinking that if God sent me a black shinny one, Black Shinny it is! so because of reviews online it was recommended that i have my guitar setup (which i thought was smart since i don't know anything about guitars much less tuning) which they let me know since i got my guitar there i would get 50% off having it setup (super happy) so even though i was dying to play Rock-smith i decided to be patience and they advised that because it was a setup might be ready to pick up same day up to 2 days and that it really depended on the work load and i imagined first come first served basis so i was OK I hoped no more than 2 days crossed my fingers.....2 days passed and i called and they passed me to what i could only guess the technician guy and he said that he would try to get to it in 2 days at the latest depending on the work that had to be done and of course i let him know that it was a setup, he gave me some hope that might be earlier and i was cool! that would be great! (i believe i have been i cool customer smiles and nice tone).....today 11/11/2015 i called to check on status they put me on hold and i could only imagine the conversation while i waited imagine this: phone guy: Hey dude they are asking for the status of a Black shinny guitar? Tech guy: mmmm let me see... here it is! what am i supposed to do to this it look fine!, Phone guy: she mentioned Set up that's all!, Tech guy: That's all! i could have done this years ago! mmmm just tell her we will try to have it today at the latest tomorrow ill trow in some really nice strings to avoid finger blister on beginners that would make her happy! [phone guy walked to the phone]...Back to reality... he came and said that they would try to have it done today latest tomorrow.... So it seems i will be playing at last my game tomorrow :S o well maybe if it would have been done earlier i would have gotten into a car accident or something i could only think it was meant to be. Maybe i could have given 2 stars but they were really nice so i added the extra star so if you get a guitar online this could happen to you!! read more

I took my Vintage 1969 Fender Jaguar six string guitar, in excellent condition, to the Guitar Center Store located at, 3830 W River Rd, Tucson AZ 85741, on or about 19 July 2016, to have my guitar appraised so I could use the Appraised Value / Market value, of the my guitar as a trade-in on a new electric /acoustic guitar of my choice from those guitars on display at that particular time, in the Guitar Center River Rd store. They informed me that during the appraisal process they would have to remove and photograph a " couple" of parts for their appraisal team in California. I agreed to their request never dreaming that my permission to allow them to remove and photograph a "couple of parts" would soon result in the removal of every part in the guitar. They then photographed every part that they had removed from my guitar, and sent the photo's to their appraisal team in California. As it turned out, the photo's documented the combined lack of knowledge of even the most basic appraisal processes and procedures of praising a guitar, let alone a Vintage Fender Jaguar six- string guitar in excellent condition, which the Guitar Center and the entire Guitar Center Appraisal Team displayed. The "photo's taken during the very sloppy and amateurish " appraisal process" show several parts lying on a work bench surrounded by various sized paint chips which were broken off during the parts removal by the the so-called "Fender Certified Repair and Appraisal Experts". I challenge Guitar Center and The Fender Corporation to make public their training methods, testing methods and test scores of those individuals whom Fender trained, tested and certified to make major modifications to guitars as so called Certified Repair Experts on Fender Guitars. There appeared to be no management oversight of the work attempted by the appraisal team, from the Top Management at The Fender Corporation, down through the top management at Guitar Center, and even worse after this fiasco was exposed by me the top management showed no interest in working the problem to ensure that it doesn't happen again, or apologizing to me for "diminished value" of my guitar as evidenced by three appraisal experts at The Fender Corporation and George Gruhn, the well respected and revered master guru appraiser of Fender guitars who appraised my guitar's market-value at $3500 even after it's value had thought to have been reduced to scrap by the Guitar Center's gross negligence as shown in their ownphoto's of their ill-conceived and ill-advised attempt to perform an appraisal of a valuable Vintage guitar. Instead of trying to determine how to correct their internal problems to keep them from happening to other victims, they chose to come after me for disclosing their problems. At this juncture, all I can say is beware of who you let near your instrument whether for repairs or appraisals. They may not be as well trained as you might think.
