I'm a huge fan of Korean cuisine, but I felt like the soondubu was a little lacking in flavor and spice the kimbap was very good though! I noticed a lot of customers ordering the kalbi, so I'll definitely give this place a second chance. The service was phenomenal since the cashier and workers were so friendly and attentive to if we needed anything. The ambiance was nice as well. You order at the counter and then they bring your food to your table.

Gumii is a Korean restaurant in Wheatland Marketplace off of Route 59. I've only had their food as take out, and it has been delicious every time. My husband would bring back food from Gumii whenever I had a craving for Korean food. Their food would always cheer me up, and the restaurant is family owned. My husband says they're really nice. Korean soups and stews are so comforting. When I was a new mom and bone-tired after coming home from the hospital, I had Gumii's kimchi jigae. I also recently had their spicy beef soup and it was fantastic too. The broth was rich and everything this made with love and care. Eating their food is like a hug. It's been consistently good even after transporting it home from the restaurant. I bet eating at the restaurant would be even better. My husband is a fan of their bibimbap rice bowls. One day, we'll find a time to dine in. Gumii gets five shiny stars for being a humble "mom n pop" place that serves Korean food made with love.

When in Naperville and craving some fast casual Korean food, then Gumii is your place! Their gluten-free options are very limited... so I did not have many choices, so I went with what I could... which was the Bibimbap with Chicken. It was fantastic! And the sides were really tasty as well! The cashier was very knowledgeable on which appetizers/entrees/sauces had gluten, so I am extremely appreciative of that! I really wish they offered more gluten-free options because this was one of the better bibimbap bowls that I have enjoyed! It's also worth noting that the portion size was more than enough for me after not eating on a long flight from Phoenix and drive out from O'hare to Naperville! Tried out this new Korean spot, and it's kind of a fast casual vibe! I got the kimchi jiggae, and it came with rice and side dishes. They don't have tap water oddly so you have to purchase a bottle.

Our go to lunch place in south naperville. Menu is on the smaller side however you won't be disappointed as everything is made from scratch. We normally order chicken Bibimbap(hot bowl) or the Dolsot Bibimbop. The pork Bulgogi is also very tasty. They also have vegetarian and lighter dishes for the health conscious consumer(tofu or seafood stew). Service is very good and restaurant was clean. Highly recommend, Thank you

Second time here. This time I order regular rice bowel. It cools down pretty fast, so if you eat slow it's getting cold towards the end. I will order the sizzling bowel. The taste of the mixture is best bibimbap I have tried in Lisle and Naperville area. Worth coming another time for soup.

This small restaurant in a strip mall has great food! It was well prepared, fresh and just like my mom used to cook. We especially liked the japchae and bulgogi. It was definitely worth the hour drive to get here! The owner, Dale, was very kind and thoughtful. He served us with warm hospitality.

This is an excellent mom and pop shop located in Naperville. It's very close to the AMC movie theater and is an awesome choice for lunch or dinner before watching a movie. The owners were very friendly and attentive. We went for lunch and it wasn't busy. We ordered scallion pancakes (added seafood for an extra cost) and gumii bulgogi. The bulgogi automatically comes with rice and sides. Pricing was reasonable for the area. The pancakes were crispy, soft, and easy to cut. They had a good amount of seafood in them as you can tell from the picture. Flavor was on point. Bulgogi was nicely cooked, tender meat, and savory. There is an ample amount of parking available.

The first thing you notice about this restaurant is how open and clean it is. You won't feel suspicious about the sanitation of the food served here. I can't believe I've only tried this restaurant now. I ordered the Dolsot Bibimbap: you can get this with beef, tofu, chicken, or seafood. I had it with the chicken. I asked for more vegetables and less rice as well and they were super accommodating! I was pleasantly surprised at how colorful and cute the dish looked. It tasted super good too!! It was slightly oily and the rice didn't make a crust on the sides of the pot which I was a little disappointed about, but I think it might've been because I was impatient and stirred my dish. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this place. I will be back to have more bibimbap and try the soups too!

We had such a great experience at Gumii from the beginning to the end. It is a fairly small restaurant that includes around a dozen or so tables; however, it does not feel like we are packed in like sardines. We placed the order at the counter and prepaid. Afterwards, we got to select where to sit. They brought the food to the table when it was ready. Afterwards, we put the dishes away in the designated spot in the corner by the front counter. It was nice to see that they have a trash bin and a recycling bin. Overall, the restaurant is tidy and clean. Now onto the food, we tried the fried dumplings, beef bulgogi, and beef short ribs. All three were AMAZING! They are reasonably priced and just the right portion amount. Not too much, not too little. My daughter enjoyed everything immensely. One slight downside is, they don't have a variety of the little side dishes that many Korean Restaurants offer. Obviously, that did not impact how I felt about the place overall. Great local Korean food! Staff is beyond nice, inside is very clean, prices are reasonable, food is amazing! I really love their food here. It's not expensive and the quality of food is really good. They're very hospitable and wants their costumer to be satisfied. Idk if they guy was the owner who was always there but if you ask for a specific side on your meal he would oblige. First time trying this place and I LOVEDDD it! first of all the man running the register and bringing out the food was so friendly and kind to all the guests there. And the chef in the back made amazing, authentic korean food. I got the tofu and vegetable bibimbap and a side of kimbap. The portion size was very large, I had more than enough left over. I was looking around for some new Korean eating spots and Gumii popped up. The restaurant is well maintained and clean. The owners (Atleast that's who I think the were) were polite. I ordered the Gumii bulgogi and beef soup. I loved the bulgogi but the beef soup was a flop for me. The bulgogi was seasoned well, rice was fresh and the side vegetables were well seasoned. The beef soup tastes more like a vegetable soup. Definitely will be going back there for their bulgogi. read more

Quaint little Korean restaurant in a strip mall with a variety of different cuisines. Menu is simple with the usual Korean staples like Bulgogi, Galbi, and Japchae. I believe it's a family run restaurant but the flavors are authentic! We will definitely be back! read more

I found this place through Yelp, and I am very happy to have stopped in. I would give this place a 5-star just from the friendly customer service alone! Absolutely amazing! I haven't had such flavorful, authentic Korean food since I returned home from Korea. The owners were extremely nice people, and very friendly. We had the Gumii Bulgogi, the Galbi, and the sliders (not authentic cuisine but amazing none the less). I'm giving it five stars and wish I could go higher. My advice, don't pass up an opportunity to eat here! read more

The man working the counter is so nice!!! Always a pleasure to speak with him. This is a mom and pop shop; you can see the wife lovingly crafting the food as soon as you order it. I was visiting my parents in the west suburbs. We were craving Korean and the options are few and far between in this area (more options in northwest and north suburbs) but this popped up and had great reviews. The reviews were right. The service was fantastic, especially the young lady behind the register taking our order. She was patient, helpful, and friendly. We were there on a Sunday around 1 and almost all the tables were full. It's a family run business and everything is made when ordered so it does take about 10-12 minutes for your food to come out but it's definitely worth it. We ordered the kim bap, dolsot bibimbap, galbi, and scallion pancakes. Would recommend any of those dishes, but the hit was definitely the galbi and scallions pancakes. Also, if you order the dolsot, wait a few minutes before you dig in so the rice gets crispy. My parents confirmed that it's definitely going in the regular rotation for them. read more

The Beef Bulgogi was delicious as suggested by the owner (I think), he was a very pleasant and helpful man. The Kimchi Fries where my wife's favorite by a long shot! I really enjoy the authentic Korean food and am so grateful to have them near my neighborhood. So far, all of the dishes that I have tried are excellent. The staff is always friendly and cheerful and I always feel welcomed and appreciated unlike some of the other places around here. The place has been opened for 6mos. Nice furnitures and all are new. Modern color combination . We ordered Beef Bibimpap. Beef Bulgogi, japchae and Galbi is tender and perfectly flavored, not too salty at all. Dale, the owner is really nice and took time to answer our questions. Reasonable price and we suggested Bingsoo(ice shaved) dessert next time . We enjoyed the experience. read more

While there is an online Yelp waitlist (that goes up to 6 people), we had a party of 8 so I called the restaurant and they were happy to put my name down for a reservation. We came to celebrate my dad's birthday. We brought a cake to share, and when we arrived, our server was gracious enough to store it in the fridge until we were ready. We had 6 adults and 2 kids. Kids under a certain height (I forget the details exactly) are free. So we didn't have to pay for the little ones, and not like toddlers appreciate hot pot anyway. It was more, "how do we make sure they don't touch the pot?!" which went totally fine. It's to position the high chairs the furthest away from the knobs/hot surfaces. On our end of the table, we got the half-half broth of classic marrow and the gold cabbage marrow. The golden marrow was SO GOOD. I would get this again and again, because it's hot/sour; the flavor of pickled cabbage and the spice of Szechuan peppercorns. Our server said the spice builds over time, and it did. It was so flavorful that I barely used my dipping sauce. If you like hot/spicy and sour, choose this broth, it is DELICIOUS. The sauce station and the prepared food buffet was located in the middle-back of the dining area. It's a little packed and cozy in there, especially during the dinner rush, you may need to wait a little longer or keep an eye on the area to determine when to get out of your seat. This same area has self-service personal ice cream cups, soda, additional toppings/veggies/proteins, buffet (fried rice, fried chicken, egg rolls, fried buns) AND the sauce station. What I did love is there was a gentleman who was making balloon animals/hats/characters for sale near the front of the restaurant. He says he does this occasionally when he doesn't have other gigs like parties or weddings, etc, so my kiddo and my niece each got a cat and a bunny, respectively. This made their day! And it was nice for them not to be strapped into a high chair the whole time, and have something to entertain them. Overall, 4 shining stars! It would have been great if they had private and semi-private rooms like the Bridgeport location, but I think this wasn't possible due to their building. It looked like they took over a from a Mangia Bubala Roadhouse (Italian and Jewish fare) which took over from a Connie's Pizza. This place has gone through some changes, but it looks like Happy Lamb will be there for the long-run.

The walls are decorated with photos taken by the owners and other memorabilia that trace the family's beginnings to Gumi, Korea. Once you shake off the retro-chic charm of the interior, you are greeted by the owner. With weathered English, he directs you to the gorgeously curated menu. Even the menu speaks to you in a familiar voice as if your mother is calling, "What do you want for dinner, hon?" Like most mothers' culinary repertoire, the selection is modest; the menu doesn't attempt to list every single Wikipedia-ble Korean dish. Rather, it's carefully curated to highlight the strength of the kitchen as well as cater to various moods and palettes. For those familiar with Korean cuisine, you will discover that the BBQ dishes dance on a familiar floor of your palate. Yet, its presentation is fresh and clean, and the homemade kimchi brings it all together. I'm still getting over my fear of strip-mall food... Be gone stigma! Gumii is worth your time and positively delicious. There is only one gentleman who I consistently see there and he beams. He's kind to his patrons, cares about his food and cares about whether or not you enjoy it. Which puts something *special* in the ingredients, I swear. I recommend trying the Bimimbap. It's a Korean rice dish with vegetables and meat (if you order it). I get mine with the Gochujang sauce which is smokey and a little spicy. The Scallion pancakes are delicious as well as whatever heavenly sauce they give you to dip it in. It's very umami-esque Almost like a soy but has something else going on that balances the salt nicer than your usual soy. I have a suspicion that just about everything on the menu is probably tasty! read more

I recently visited Gu-Mii Korean Restaurant in Naperville and I have to say that I had a fantastic experience. The food was absolutely delicious and I particularly enjoyed the teriyaki tofu, japchae noodles, and scallion pancakes. The teriyaki tofu was cooked to perfection and had a great balance of sweet and savory flavors. The tofu itself was crispy on the outside and had a nice texture. The japchae noodles were also a standout dish, they were cooked well and had a great combination of flavors and textures. The scallion pancakes were a great appetizer, they were crispy and savory.
