My car's computer told me that one of my tires was low on air pressure. I went to Discount Tire and and they told me that the tire had two nails in it, one of which could not be repaired. Un/fortunately, they didn't have a tire that would fit my car in stock. So I went to Gunnell's, which is where I usually go and will always go from now on. They determined that while there were indeed two nails in the tire, only one of them caused a leak, and it could be repaired. So they fixed the tire for free. They also set the air pressure on all my tires to what is recommended for my tires and my car, whereas Discount Tire over-filled all four tires. read more

I live less than a mile from Gunnell's. I've had two experiences with them. The first was when I got a quote to replace my truck shocks. They were by far the highest bid I received so I didn't go there. The second time I went there was to have them look at my tires. They are Michelins and they're showing "chunking" where relatively large pieces of the tire are coming off. I was directed to an authorized Michelin tire seller to have them evaluated. Gunnell's was the closest so that's where I went. Big mistake. When I got there, one of their employees came out and looked at the tires. He said that I've been driving on dirt roads and this is happening because of that. I could believe that but for one, the damage happened after a trip where I went 2000 miles on paved roads. Secondly, they're off-road tires! He tried to tell me that was normal. I countered with the fact that I've been buying tires for 40 years and have never seen this on any tire of any kind, any amount of wear, or any age. It's a defect. He disagreed and wouldn't listen to anything I said. What an $$$****. Gee, with employees like that and "customer service" like that, why would anyone go there? I certainly won't and you shouldn't either. They're getting one star because I can't give zero. read more

Somehow I picked up a razor blade in my rear driver's side tire that was quickly deflating it. Inflated it again, but it lost 10 lbs just going a half a mile . Spotted Gunnell's and pulled on to ask for a tire repair. They set it up right away and had us on our way in about 25 minutes. Best yet, they said it was no charge. Battery Purchase Last week I was sold an Interstate MTX 94R H7 battery for 319.95 plus $25 installation fee. Later I learned that Interstate sells the battery for $100 less (retail). In addition to the incredible markup, I was told by one of Gunnell's reps that my Jeep required this particular battery. Several people have told me this is untrue. A rep informed me of the cost beforehand and I made no objection (assuming that this battery was the required one and assuming I was getting the best price.) My past dealings with this company have always been great. I have my scheduled maintenance done there and have had several tires repaired. As a senior citizen I felt I have always been treated well. I guess I am writing this to express my great disappointment at learning I have been deceived in being told that particular battery was required and learned that I was overcharged to such a large extent. Before doing a Yelp review (which I often and usually do)I thought it to be the courteous thing to bring this to your attention. I do not know how I can patronize Gunnell's in the future. I parked in handicap as my daughter is handicap and attends the daycare next door... before going into this business i was going to grab her and come inside as there business the store manager came outside rudely and informed me i couldn't park in handicap... and he owns the parking lot and he would tow. me keep in mind i have a handicap plate... This is my first time getting a flat tire via a nail on the road so I'm not sure if this is a common thing for tire shops. I brought my truck in to see if they can fix my flat . After about 30ish minutes they brought it back out, patched up, and told me I was good to go and didn't charge me a penny. I was throughly impressed by their kindness and generosity. Gunnells is the BEST! We were preparing for a long out of state road trip and brought our car in for a full safety inspection in general and to have the breaks checked out specifically. They squeezed us into a full schedule and completed the full inspection, and didn't find anything that needed repair or replacement. That's impressive enough, because dealerships and some other locations are famous for coming back with long lists of things to be done, whether they are really needed or not. This is my go-to place for any vehicle issues. They always give us prompt service with fair prices. My fiance took his car to the Big O Tires over on Power and McKellips last year because his a/c was blowing out hot air. They said they would have to rip out the dashboard to take a look and it'd be $950 minimum. Took it over to Gunnell's and they did something with the car's computer, fixed it in less than 10 minutes. I took my car there to get a flat fixed. I got there 15 mins before close but they wouldn't help me due to them getting ready to shut down for the day. I have spent thousands of dollars at this shop over the last few months, but they couldn't be bothered to help a customer even if it meant they had to stay a few mins late. I had to take it to Discount Tire and due to the added distance of driving on my bad tire, I ruined it and had to buy a new one. I will never give this location my business again. As a side note, the Gunnell's off main would never have turned away a customer in need. Customer service is everything and this place clearly doesn't care. read more

I was having MAJOR vibration problems with my Subaru Outback. I knew it would e expensive and was worried the mechanic was going to give me a list orlf repairs. I also was dropping the car off for a 100k mile check up. Found out the problem was the drive shaft was bad. Other than that everything was great! They had the perfect chance to slam me with a list of things needing work (100k mile check-up). These guys are my new mechanic for sure! With a new driveshaft my car drives like a dream! Honest and trustworthy the main reason I have been going to Gunnells for around 20 years now. It's hard to find these values in a lot of businesses these day, especially when it comes to auto repair. You will find them at Gunnells. As well a very knowledgeable staff that won't mislead you by having you buy or repair something that doesn't need repaired. When I was in there this morning a guy said that he wanted to get an alignment done on his car along with all the other things he was getting done. The Gunnells staff person said, "oh you don't need an alignment It would just be a waste of money", because everything was already good to go. He could have easily said yeah I'll give you an alignment and charge him anywhere between 65 to100 bucks, but he didn't because they're not like that there. And the exact reason why I will continue to go there and will never go anywhere else. read more

We were helping our daughter while her husband is overseas for a year with the Army. It was time to get the oil changed for her car. She has two children and going to school, so we offered to take her car in for its scheduled oil change. We dropped off the car in the morning. After a while they called us back and told us that the brakes were "metal on metal" and that it would cost over $600 for new pads and rotors. I was skeptical and said that we would just pay for the oil change. The guy on the phone said, "Well, safety first!" and then hung up. I don't care how you spin it - that was RUDE! A few days later, I took the car in to Discount Tire's drive through to get the tire pressure checked on all the tires. The attendant said that all four tires were 3-4 pounds under pressure. Gunnell's supposedly rotated the tires and checked the pressure as part of their service. I find it hard to believe that they did. The only evidence I have that they did anything with the tires is that we are NOW MISSING A LUG NUT from the right front tire. Do not go to THIS Gunnell's!! I have heard good things about the one on Main, but avoid the Gilbert & McKellips shop at all costs. They will try to up-sell you at every turn! Oh, and the brakes that were "metal on metal"? I replaced all pads a few days later, and NONE OF THEM were "metal on metal." read more
