I recently took my vehicle to have the AC Control Module replaced at this auto shop. During the process, the technicians had to remove the trim near my stereo system. Unfortunately, when I received my car back, I noticed visible scratches on the interior trim, along with broken pieces of plastic that were raised to the touch. It was clear that this damage wasn't accidental; and that the technician hoped I would drive off without noticing. I brought this issue to the attention of the gentleman at the front desk, and he assured me they would make it right by replacing the damaged part. About an hour later, I discovered that my windshield had also been cracked while my car was in their care. It took nearly a month for the shop to obtain the replacement trim. When I spoke with the manager, I learned that the owner wanted to inspect the windshield before deciding on a replacement. The owner, Andi, came out, barely acknowledged me, took a look at the vehicle, and then returned inside. I left my car in their care again and while replacing my trim they decided not to replace my windshield. They claimed it cracked due to an installation error. I don't know enough about windshields to push back and honestly taking them to small claims would probably cost me just as much as replacing the windshield so; sure, that's how it cracked. While I was disappointed with the technician's handling of my vehicle, I want to acknowledge that Daniel, the service manager, was a perfect gentleman. He was responsive and respectful throughout the process. It's unfortunate that my experience with the technician didn't match the level of service I received from him. I'm not the type to write a review but it really disappointed me that the technician would do that to my car and just say nothing trying to pull one over on me. I had to drive my F-150 to Provo, Utah for Thanksgiving a few years ago, but I had no heat which would have been a huge problem in cold country. The day before Thanksgiving I was desperate and brought it in to what was then called Salem Brothers. I had no appointment and you were loaded up. I did have to wait quite a while which was not unexpected. They looked at my truck and made the repair, I was charged $9, yes just 9 BUCKS. Apparently the control knob was stripped and when I turned it to get heat it failed to move the actuator. I was charged for a replacement knob, no labor because it was diagnosed quickly and putting the new knob on took no time. They could have charged me anything and I would have paid up since I was desperate to get moving. Because of their expertise they immediately figured out my problem and got me on my way. You guys are awesome, I'm now driving a 2024 Mazda CX90, when the warranty ends I'll be brining it into Salem Boys. read more

We have an 18 year old SUV with 226,000 miles. We love it, and we take care of her. We were told by another repair shop that we need several thousands of dollars' worth of repairs. That shop warned us not to drive her another mile...just too dangerous. A friend referred us to Salem Boys. They gave our SUV a through looking over. They advised repairing half of what we were told needed to be done, at half the cost. When asked would be safe driving the SUV and would the repairs they recommend fix the problem...we were told they treat every car as if it was their mother's or sister's car. That statement was sincere. We authorized the repairs, and it took 1/2 a day longer to make the repairs due to 18 years of rust, but they got the job done. We have no doubt that there are other honest and capable repair shops in the greater Phoenix area, but the feel, tone and look of a second-generation business is compelling. If I had a second generation, family owned business I couldn't ask for a better voice/face/employee than Daniel (our contact person). Our other vehicle is a high-end sports car. Whatever service either of our vehicles need, Salem Boys will have our business. read more

Update: Salem Boys Auto totally trashed my vehicle due to their shoddy work and after further review and examination it appears may have committed fraud as well. Updated Facts: (See other reviews for more details) 1. My vehicle has been rendered inoperable due to SBA's negligence and it has now been over 5 months now without being able to drive my vehicle after spending over $8,000 in repairs at SBA. (See picture of stranded vehicle in garage) 2. SBA trashed my perfectly running carburetor and now the CEO told me to go get it fixed someplace else and then bring the car back to them to work on. Seriously? (See picture of black soot on garage floor due to SBA' s shoddy work). So SBA does admit the carburetor is damaged and does not accept responsibility for it. Funny, the mechanic nor the invoice never mentioned the carburetor needed repair when I came in pick up my vehicle which the mechanic said was running well. Turns out both were lies. 3. Fraud? SBA claimed the spark plugs (over 10 years old) which I ask them to replace were in good condition and did not need replacement. So the CEO and mechanic said they decided not to replace the spark plugs but instead (unauthorized repair) to clean the plugs instead of replacing them because the tips were in good condition and charged me $197 in labor to boot. After I thought this story sounded suspicious I decided to remove the spark plugs and discovered they were in horrendous condition and clearly needed replacement and certainly were never cleaned by SBA to quality condition. This was a blatant glaring lie on SBA's part. Did they think I would not remove them and examine them after they trashed my vehicle? I bet most people don't double check the work their mechanics do at SBA. It's not the lie that looks bad it's the coverup. (See picture of spark plug) 4. There are many repairs that I believe you over charged me in some cases 200%-300% or more as compared to other shops average prices in the area for either parts or labor. For example, SBA charged me $190 for two front shock absorbers that was just for the parts. After further review two shocks shocks should only cost around $50. Now , asked the CEO Andi, if she would tell me what quality and type of shocks they charged me for? To this date she has failed to respond. Same goes for the starter replacement your shop charged me $300 for? Compare at $150-$175 average repair price in the Phoenix area. 5. The list goes on and on. (see other reviews for more details about the shoddy work and the excuses and excuses of why SBA feels they allegedly are not responsible for trashing my vehicle and never offered to repair the damages they have caused me. Just the fact alone that not be able to drive my vehicle after spending over $8,000 would warrant any decent auto repair shop to come to at the very least to offer to make things right. Not so, just excuse after excuse and it seems they like to ridicule and yell at their customers who complain like they did to me. Not only that I have to hear a sincere apology for the condition they have left my vehicle. 6. Check engine light is on which I asked SBA to diagnose and repair as part of passing emissions on two occasions. SBA denies this. Why would you take a vehicle to emissions with the check engine light on and not need to repair it makes no sense as does most of SBA's deceptive and misleading responses. There are many which I have documented (See Photo of check engine light). The mechanic told me when I came in to pick up my vehicle he fixed the check engine light issue and now SBA denies I ever asked them to repair it. 7. How about after failing emissions a second time and SBA claiming they lost the emissions results when I came in to pick up my vehicle. Very suspicious. The mechanice told me they had them before I came in and then all of a sudden they went missing. Was SBA trying to hide something here? 8. Then there was the unauthorized changing of my battery where SBA tried to charge me an additional $40 on top of the cost of the battery to check my electrical system (again unauthorized) for what the CEO said is normal practice for them each time they change a battery? When I questioned the CEO about this charge and said it sounded like a scam to me she did refund these charges. Either way, very suspicious practice here. Never heard of a shop without consent charging customers to check their electrical system when changing a battery and tacking on $40. Summary: One thing SBA is good at is taking your money, charging premium prices and then denying all wrong doing for trashing my vehicle. How treating good paying customer who never complained about your premium prices and patiently waiting over two months to get their vehicle fixed is beyond me. Alright, the world's changed and it's time for an updated review. I've long recommended Salem Boys Auto for the quality of their work and their competitive pricing (and the fact they, y'know, actually run in-depth diagnostics on your vehicle instead of just making up a likely solution). I've also long left my Yelp review at 4 stars because the lack of weekend hours and longer wait times meant they were a great but slightly inconvenient option. But hey, let's get real: almost nobody's had weekend hours in a couple years now, and my dealer service department is routinely booked out 1-2 weeks when I need dealer-only work. So sitting here in 2021, Salem Boys now has the same hours as everyone else, and this year they've been able to book me (and people I've referred) as soon as or sooner than competing shops. They've gone from "great but slightly inconvenient" to "totally competitive" or "great and actually more convenient." Five stars, baby! I've sent family members and friends to Salem Boys over and over and they've had the same great experience I have, so I know it's not just a fluke or limited to my vehicle. (On a recent visit by my brother, they discovered his axle was installed incorrectly by another shop, which probably solved his long-running mystery of "why do I need a new axle every other year?") If you're looking for a shop full of good people that can provide good work at an honest price, look no further. Give them a call and get in there. read more

This place is awesome! My husband brings his truck here all the time for standard maintenance and enhancement. Of course he has a 2500HD diesel truck. But still the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Recently I was having transmission issues on my 16yo Jeep. She was having trouble shifting gears and of course she is so old I worried about the life of my Jeep. My husband was able to drop it off and they got to it when could. A few days later since my Jeep was not wanting to replicate its issue they finally were able to determine what was going on and fix it! Since I have gotten my Jeep back I have been driving it like normal and I have had no issues! I had taken my truck to get it checked out and diagnostic testing. The staff was very nice. They had a shuttle and dropped me off at work! The driver very personable. When my tuck was finished, the shuttle picked me up from work. They told me that they didn't find anything, I had no out of pocket cost!! This company is the best! I first heard about Salem Boys Auto from my dad, who had listened to the radio auto/maintenance advice show that one of the Owners does on one of the valley's weekend talk radio stations. I tuned in and found the program entertaining, informative, and the owner seemed like a guy who you could trust. Fast forward a few years later and my 2016 Honda Civic is now paid off and I'm ready to be done with the dealer and their constant recommendation of services/ inflated prices I don't need . I recently took my Civic into Salem Boys Auto for an oil change, tire rotation, and general checkup as it was due for maintenance. I found the shop clean, nice curb appeal, and welcoming, with a nice retro feel to their lobby. The service attendants at the front desk were polite and helped me quickly and efficiently. I didn't feel any pressure or like I was being bamboozled with hidden fees or unnecessary services. What I paid was under what I was quoted and they told me my car was in great shape. I was in and out in just over an hour. I usually hate going to take my car in for service because the dealer would always try to guilt me into paying for expensive services and if I refused , would proceed to shame me for being a neglectful car owner--Salem Boys is not like that. EXTREMELY LOW INTEGRITY AND INCOMPETENT MECHANICS. They are NOT skilled or versed in high performance vehicles as they advertise on their website. Took a vintage 1980 Vette that had been geared to be a high performance street car by prior owner to their shop for an inspection and listing of the items that would need to be done to get the car into a more desired condition. Upon their inspection they had stated and recommended that a new engine would need to be placed in the vehicle as the one that been altered was simply too much power for the transmission, etc. Given that this appeared to be a reputable auto shop that knows about classic cars and high performance cars the recommendation was taken and it was agreed to have them order and install a refurbished high performance engine in the car. Not a cheap repair. As a side note to show how much business we were providing these people, a 1973 Vette was also given for the installation of a new/refurbished engine. After the engine was installed and other items tended to with the 1980, while driving the car home on the interstate the engine overheated and the radiator was blowing steam and fluid everywhere. Daniel, our point of contact, was contacted while sitting along side the road and he said he will have the vehicle towed back to their shop to be properly repaired. While the car was towed back to their shop, proper repairs were NOT made. Choice words were said to Daniel one morning because of the lack of proper repair, and I did make an apology to him personally and he accepted the apology and stated he understood the anger given the amount of money that had been spent with them. The 1980, after every time they said was fixed and "good to go" the engine overheated and continued to have issues. By this time over 20k was spent with their shop between two cars with the 1980 costing more because every time it went back to them to properly fix the issue they had always "discovered" something new and different wrong with the vehicle and was invoiced for those repairs. When questioned why they were not able to identify these types of things during one of the other numerous visits, no valid explanation was given other than, and I quote "These types of things just happen with old cars." A consumer should have the expectation that when a vehicle taken to a shop for repairs that a thorough check be done and ALL items listed. They never did any work beyond the one area of the car they happened to be working on during any given trip to their shop. That is poor service and demonstrates a true lack of knowledge and lack of comprehensive inspection. After spending over 15k on repairs on the 80 c3 it was decided to put the car up for sale with a dealership. Buyer came along and had placed a deposit and signed a purchase contract on the car. While he drove the car, it overheated! He was told it is under warranty and that Salem backs their work (but its crap work mind you). So he agreed to have it fixed by them. They had said the car was fixed, for literally over the 8th time, and while the car was being driven back to the dealership to be delivered to the buyer it overheated AGAIN!! Because of this the buyer backed out of the sale and the sale was lost. Their negligence, lack of ability to identify the issues and properly fix them, and buyer told dealer Salem told him to not buy the car and that had cost us the sale of the vehicle. They had nothing to say in response to this matter and have taken ZERO responsibility in their role of costing the sale to cancel. After this, they had the car for over a week and a half to make certain the problem was fixed. After this, the car had to be towed back to their shop because the brake caliper and pad fell completely off the car and lodged in the tire while I was driving it. This place is a scam and does NOT know high performance vehicles and will bilk you for tens of thousands of dollars if you take your vintage classic car to them for work to be done. It was not until AFTER $20k + was spent with them and the vehicle was returned numerous times because of their shotty work did they refer us to another shop/specialist. This should have been First And Foremost if they had any integrity, but instead they saw an opportunity to make a bunch of money and then make excuses as to why they cant figure out the problems. A relationship could have been established with another Professional shop given the amount of work and money was done and spent, but they decided to collect it for themselves and then turn into jerks when reasonable expectations were not met. Also, they have their reviews on other sites and review boards padded by friends, family and employees, etc. A simple review of giving 5 stars with zero account as to what service or work was provided. These are considered padded and fake reviews. Also you can see by how they respond to non-glowing reviews and blame the customer in near every case that they have accountability issues. read more

I have used Salem Boys Auto recently to repair/ upgrade my Ram 1500 exhaust manifold bolts. I also had my transmission fluid fully flushed. Knowing they needed to use the Mopar specific transmission fluid they did catch that and noted this instead of using an off the shelf autopart store brand. I find them to be reliable and trust worthy. I was surprised that the cost was still quite fair. Knowing the cost of my time and knowing how to fix or maintain my own vehicles it is difficult for me to allow or pay anyone to service or repair mine. They have left a very positive impression with me and I will be sticking with them on my next repair or maintenance. read more

This is the best auto repair shop I have ever been too. I just wish they had more locations. I have been going to them for many many years. They have always taken care of what I needed to be done. I absolutely trust their work that they do and if they do happen make a mistake they will definitely correct it. I am in debt to Mark for helping us on more than one occasion, correctly diagnose issues with our trucks. If I lived closer, I'd be using his crew for anything to do with our vehicles. He steered me to a shop close to home, even called them for me to tell them what he though one issue was and saved us the expense and time of needing a new engine in our truck. Best customer service I have experienced in an Auto repair Shop. I had been shopping around for a garage that would install an aftermarket DLR Kit for my car, as well as some LED strips. The Quotes I was getting were ridiculous, in the order of 4 to 6 times what I paid for the materials. The CFO in my company, who happens to be a big Car enthusiast, recommended a couple of Shops, one amongst them Salem Boys. Shortly after, I began corresponding with Alan, who immediately took care of me and offered the most competitive pricing out of all the shops I had contacted. Installation was completed in a few hours and I was a happy customer...But wait... Calamity! After a couple of days i noticed that the LED kits were flickering and changing intensity. I called Alan, he had me bring the car in the very next day to get re-wired. You'd think that was the end of that! But unfortunately it was not! After a couple days I once again noticed The LED's were still flickering. Without a second thought Alan asked me to bring the car back in and they kept it for most the day to ensure that the problem will not present itself again. When I picked up my car Alan asked to please contact him again if the issue reoccurred, that we would get it fixed no matter what. But fortunately for all those involved, the issue was fixed. All throughout these 3 trips to the shop, I did not pay a single penny more; My calls were always promptly, professionally and courteously handled and I was transported to and from work on their courtesy shuttle. I was so disappointed in my first experience with Salem Boys. They had come recommended to me and I know of their radio show, so I had high hopes when I took my car in for A/C repair. First, when I made the appointment on the phone, I was told that they would be open until 6:00 p.m.. I told them I would be there shortly before 6:00 to drop off my car. No problem, she said. I got there at 5:50 and found the doors locked and lights off. I try to avoid leaving my car outside repair facilities as thieves know how to get into the night drops to steal the keys. Looks like I had no choice this time, so I dropped it off in the after hours box and kept my fingers crossed. I left a note with my keys expressing my displeasure with the early closing, which was never acknowledged. The next morning I received a call fairly promptly. To their credit, they evaluated the car quickly. The news was not good - replace essentially the entire A/C system for $2,350. Wow. For this price, am I at least getting Ford parts? No. Ok, what's the warranty in my shiny new aftermarket A/C system? One year. That's it. Not to worry though, I was assured they have had "good luck" with this manufacturer. I wasn't comforted by that. A quick Google search found manufacturers that will warranty their products for 3 years. Sounds more reasonable. I advised them I would be picking up my car. When I picked up the car, it was a very disinterested interaction. Not exactly rude, but no conversation or attempts to see if there was any other way to help me. $48 please. Ok, fine. I decided to check around and compare prices. I called the dealer first. I asked for a price to do the same work Salem told me they would be doing. The dealer was $200 less expensive and I would be getting OEM parts with a warranty twice as long. I've never heard of the dealer being less than an independent shop before. I managed to find another facility (with excellent reviews) that would do the work for $300 less and a warranty for 3 years. Still expensive, but head and shoulders above the Salem quote. I ultimately had the work done there and it appears fine for now. I was left wondering what benefit Salem Boys was offering. Price - no. Quality - no. Service after the repair - no. Service - no. It's unfortunate, but Salem Boys missed an opportunity to gain a customer. read more

Salem Boys is the place!!! Extremely TRUSTWORTHY!! Need work done? Salem Boys!! Currently sitting at a mechanic shop that is performing shady work and trying to up-charge you? Get you car off the lift and go to Salem Boys!! Guaranteed they will take care of you. I had a non reputable shop install some brake calipers on my car back in November of '18. There was a good ammount of play in the emergency brake's tension. I took the car to the dealer (who I have gone to since I purchased the Honda) and they came to the conclusion that the components had failed and in order to adjust the tension they needed to completely replace the set. I decided to get a second opinion from another reputable shop (Salem) to ensure the parts the non reputable shop installed were in fact defective. I called and spoke with Paul, he was able to get an appointment schedule the next morning. Arrived, dropped off the keys and within about 50 minutes I had the issue diagnosed, fixed and I was out the door. Turns out, my dealer was trying to milk me for a significant price and an unnecessary repair. Salem stepped right in, tightened the tension in my emergency brake and I was off. They even told me to come back in a few days just to make sure everything is okay. Now, this isn't the first time I have to Salem automotive. My original visit was back in early 2015. Salem automotive was able to diagnose and fix an issue with the wiring related to my airbags that cause a sensor to keep going off. The only other service shop that was able to diagnose this was the dealer and wanted to fix it for an absolutely absurd price. I will be taking my car here for any major and minor service. I called salem about getting a transmission replaced as well as a rear main seal on my 1997 f250 hd. The lady that answered the phone was extremely professional and polite. She took my vin number and my name and number and said she would call back the next day. It's been several weeks with no call back. I tried calling back but they have no recollection of my call. I have heard very great things about salem, but I'm a customer with cash, that is willing to pay more for quality work and it seems like they don't want to take on the job. If that is the case, tell me that up front. I would be nervous to have work done if that is the case. read more

I have used several other top tier auto shops around Phoenix area and these guys are by far my favorite. Allen from their performance division is and excellent guy and I met his Dad the first time I went to the shop. Dad took me for a tour around the shop and needless to say I was very impressed with everything I saw. There are a handful of less than stellar reviews on here and I have to say that these folks don't understand that auto repair shops can't operate without making a profit... My parents have used Salem Boys for years and so when my boyfriend's 2005 Ford Focus started having AC issues, we were recommended to use them to do the repairs. (Our RO# is 187166 and my boyfriends last name is Sosa... in case you want to pull up our history). Initially, they had replaced some leaking hoses and also discovered a serious separate issue (CV Axel transmission seals) which we allowed them to fix (and they did a great job on that). They sent us on our way. The same day, after driving the car for 45 minutes, the AC was intermittent at best again. We returned the car to Salem Boys two days later and they kept the car for three days just to ultimately tell us they couldn't replicate the issue therefore couldn't do anything about it. We picked up the vehicle and drove it for 15 minutes just to have the AC go out again, called Salem Boys and was told to bring it by when it's doing it or they can't do anything about it. Finally, we were able to do so, they kept the car for another 3 days - still not able to explain what was wrong or what they even fixed - they insisted it was complete. We picked up the car, it worked for one week and then the AC went out again. We had called to advise this needed to be fixed due to the rising temperatures out here in the valley of the sun (my boyfriend commutes in rush hour 25 miles one way 5 days per week in business professional dress) and we were told they couldn't get his car in for an entire week. One week. This is an issue we had paid to have fixed (we spent over $1100 with them at this point) and they couldn't prioritize it. We were given excuses such as they were short handed, had to let some people go, a couple people called out, but this is unacceptable. We never ended up taking it back to them, as we had lost faith in their ability to resolve the issue. We ended up at the San Tan Ford dealership who had it for two days, offered up a free rental since they had to keep it, replaced the fan assembly, and now the car blows cold air consistently without fail. Sorry for being long winded - but I am completely disappointed in the service at Salem this time around. I feel as though we spent more money than we should have just to end up having to take the vehicle elsewhere and spend even more because Salem couldn't fix the issue nor prioritize an ongoing issue they should have been able to fix weeks before. Jeff was always very nice and I have no complaints about their customer service nor the work they did on the transmission seals. The AC issue just went on way longer than it should have. read more

I couldn't have had a better experience with these guys. They diagnosed a problem I had in 15 minutes that the dealer missed during a 2 hour inspection. Alan has gone far above and beyond for me to get my truck back on the road. Without a doubt the most friendly and helpful auto shop I've encountered. I drive over an hour to see them and I don't think twice because it's worth it. read more

Salem Boys is amazing. They are always friendly and helpful! We have been coming here for a few years now but I am a new"Yelper"so until now have not reviewed them. We have recommended them to our friends however. I appreciate their professionalism. So far they have been able to do everything we needed. We do not feel they have ever tried to "up sell"us. Scammy place. I brought my car here for an inspection and they quoted me a rediculous 2000+ dollars on all kinds of unnecessary stuff. I brought my car in for a second opinion elsewhere and they laughed when the read the report and said these guys had a reputation for doing this. I drive a pretty old car that needs a lot of stuff fixed on it, and I just can't afford Salem Boys anymore. Every time I walk in, I come out with two grand worth of stuff that needs to be done. Granted, most of the time they're right about what needs to be fixed, but I can usually find a place to do it at 75% of the cost. And I know that they do the boogeyman thing and tell you that many shops will do inferior work, but there's also a lot of shops that will do good work for not as much money. Sad face. read more
