fee I called Gunthers because they are one of the few HVAC companies that are approved to work on the proprietary equipment made by Carrier. They sent a tech out who analyzed my "no heat" problem within about 25 minutes, good so far. He left to go pick up a part, the Gas Valve. He returned in just over 2 hours, as he had to drive to SLC for the valve, he installed the gas valve in about 35 minutes . Great the furnace is now working. However, when I received the bill I was shocked! $985.96!! I have been a general contractor since 1973 and a property manager since 1985. I have had thousands of new HVAC systems installed, I have had repair work done on hundreds of furnaces over the past 36 years. I know alittle about this type of equipment and this type of work. I was absolutely stunned by Gunther's bill. I figured 3 1/2 hours of labor and a gas valve might run $550 to $600, but $1,000, no way!! When I called and talked to the service manager, Nathan Silvey, he said there was nothing he could do, no adjustment. So Beware, Silvey said they don't do service work by the hour, rather, they look in a book and charge a flat rate for certain types of work based on the book rate. They charged $43.75 to clean the flame sensor, no parts involved, just 15 to 20 minutes of labor. They charged $99 to just show up on site, no credit given toward the service work, then $843.21, the " book rate", to replace the gas valve. Actual time on site for their tech was exactly one hour. Travel to and from Salt Lake to pick up the part was about 2 hours and 25 minutes. I would have driven and picked up the part if they gave me that option. Their billing rate for their tech is $125 per hour. Wow, that is an expensive pick up and delivery service. Beware folks, ask a lot of questions before you have these folks come out and work on your equipment. I only called them because my regular HVAC repair guy couldn't get to me for several days and he said Gunthers was the only other local company he knew of that could get parts for Carrier equipment. Believe me, I will be more careful in the future... and no more Carrier equipment will go into any of my rentals. Their proprietary parts gives little competition so they can just charge whatever they want! Competition keeps the prices reasonable. Don't use Carrier equipment! Let me reiterate, workmanship was fine, the tech, Sergii, was a nice guy and went right to work, no beating around the bush with him. However, the price for what was done was way out of line. In addition, the failure of the service manager to attempt any reconciliation, cost reduction, or to compromise with me in any way, well, thus the low rating. Good luck folks! Know what you are getting into if you intend to have Gunther's work on your equipment. read more

My appointment window was between 12 and 4pm, my technician showed up 10 minutes early. Nice timing! He checked out all possible connections and possible problem areas with his electronic meter and coolant gauges. Problem seemed to be the outside motor. It had been squeaking. These guys are excellent professionals. A little unorganized with their scheduling, but a good place to go for your AC needs. I called them, scheduled an appointment for 2 days later, and then received a call back saying they had some extra time and could stop by in 30 minutes. The guy that came out was friendly and explained to me what was going on. He quickly found the problem part (a capacitor), showed it to me, told me the cost to replace it, and then did it. Within 30 minutes of him showing up I had completely working AC. They do charge a ~$75 inspection fee to come out and then parts/labor on top of that. From talking with other places in the area this seems to be a standard practice. Overall I spent around $150 and had working AC, so I was pretty happy. read more

Gunthers has been my go-to HVAC techs for last 15+ years, and I couldn't be happier. Always helpful, fair, and courteous. Top notch folk. And they saved the day for me... A hot friday August I get called by the pet store who rents a building I manage, to say the HVAC stopped, it was 85 in the building. I called Gunthers for help. I explained the puppies, kittens, fish, iguanas, and tarantulas are getting hot fast. They rushed right out and fixed my rather bad problem where a motor had seized up. And after a few hours since I'd called, no hot doggies. I since then keep a modest service contract to maintain things, and have been pleased with their service. Oh, by the way, they do their own work. Your request is not moved again to some other outfit, and the fancy-named place you called takes a cut. There seems to be a bunch of that these days. Middlemen we don't need when hot critters are on the line. read more

Update January 11, 2019: I was remarking to my wife this morning that I never would have thought that our new heating and air conditioning unit could result in such precise and consistent comfort! Now, our house consistently stays at the exact temperature we have our thermostat set because of the new electronic controls and sensors plus the fact that the fan recirculates inside air even when the heating unit is not running. The result is there are no cold or hot spots and no difference in temperature between floors, unlike with our old unit. It's been great! read more

Would love to give a five star review but we can't get a quote! Jamie came on June 23rd to bid the hvac for our unfinished basement and he was amazing. Spent 1.5 hrs trying to make the best plan of action for fixing things that the builder messed up and also making sure it looked the best and had the least amount of ceiling space taken up. He was very knowledgeable and we were so excited to work with Gunthers. However after two phone calls, an email, and two texts- I still haven't gotten a quote back. read more

Called Gunther's when our a/c went completely out at the peak of the heat of summer and requested a quote to replace our system. At first I was told it be a week or so out but they kindly squeezed me in the next morning. After being at our home for about an hour, the employee left and said they would get back to me with an estimate; never heard from Gunther's again. Nada. read more

Our AC broke yesterday and we took our fan in 15 minutes before they closed. Kevin was so kind as to work with is for another half hour even though it was after hours. He helped get us all the parts we needed when other stores told us they wouldn't sell us them because they only sent labor workers out to fix them. So grateful for their kind service! read more

My 81 year old mother called when Rocky Mt. Power sent a surge through and fried the thermostat that Gunther put in. Never before has a power surge in 57 years done that. So the addition of the Air Conditioning Unit that Gunther put in without a power surge protector caused a 390 dollar fee which they wouldn't come fix after seven at night with an additional charge of 100 dollars. Nate, the manager said of course it wasn't his product and not his responsibility and could not do anything to help out. You can tell why Nate is not on Angie's list. I called action heating plumbing and air to come do a yearly check up and maintance on my two furnaces. They told me I had cracks and that they were unsafe to even run, that I needed to replace them immediately. My dad has been building houses for magleby construction for years, he told me I needed a second opinion and to call the best and most honest in the business, he told me to call Gunthers. they sent out Scott Z. to my house, he was on time, he knew what he was doing and he told me both of my "deadly" furnaces were actaully in great condition. In a world of dishonest pieces of crap its nice to know there are a few out there that you can trust, thank you so much guys. Will definately call again for any issues we have!!! read more

Called to set up an appointment on a Thursday, they told me they couldn't get me in for another 12 days but if they had any cancellations they would call and let me know. I got a call at 3:57 11 days later for a cancellation to come immediately. The heat had gotten unbearable and we couldn't wait any longer with a baby and a small child so my husband scheduled another company to come that day. It was late afternoon and I hadn't heard from them yet so I asked if I could call my husband to let him know it would be switching before I said yes. She told me that was fine. I asked what number to call back and she said just the one she had called on. I called them back at 4:01 to tell them to come, got someone else on the phone who then got the dispatcher who had already filled the spot and sent them to someone else in LESS THAN FIVE MINUTES. The lady I spoke to was really kind and apologetic but it was beyond disappointing to have them call and offer, say it was ok for me to verify and get right back with them and not even have them wait two minutes before scheduling someone else in the space they had just offered me. Meantime, I have two small children who have been suffering without air conditioning in 98 degree weather for over a week and a half. I called them originally because they had seemed reputable and were a local business. If it is an emergency or you need someone to come quickly, they are not the company for you. read more
