I've had Gus' on my radar since they opened in Midtown Detroit a few years ago but I hadn't realized this location in Westland had opened until I was driving by a few weeks ago. I used to live not terribly far from this location and used to hit the Bray's across the street all the time but since my mom moved to Canton a few years ago I haven't been down this stretch of Ford Road in a long time. But there I was a few weeks ago, running some errands in the area. And as I passed it, I swear to you, I rubbernecked it so hard as I went by and realized what I was seeing. I had just picked up dinner elsewhere so it wasn't in the cards that day but the next time I was out even SLIGHTLY over there I made darn sure I placed an order. And of course, my mom wanted some too. So we were able to take advantage of the door dash group order for pick up. At our assigned time I ran in and scooped up our order and I was happy to find everything marked perfectly so I could easily pass on my mom's order on my way home back to Ann Arbor. By the time I got home it was a while later but I'm happy to report everything was still delicious. My husband and split a half chicken and a couple of extra sides. The hot sides (mac and cheese and baked beans) were still warm and the chicken still had a nice crunch. It's a bit on the spicy side but I wouldn't call it "hot chicken," just a touch spicy. The potato salad was also quite good. For dessert we got a slice of the chocolate chess pie and it was awesome. Wish we were a bit closer since there's nothing like a hot, fresh chicken out of the fryer but until then the takeout option was as good as it could be! I can't wait until we can safely dine indoors to get the full experience!

Chicken is amazing but the rest of the sides are bland. Employees are supernice and most definitely help bump the star rating.

Being from TX, I'm a huge fan of fried chicken, especially when there is an opportunity to get it spicy! I have heard many great things regarding Gus's Fried Chicken. Food: I got the spicy 3 piece dark meat with fried okra and coleslaw! The chicken was very oily, which can be a good thing but I think it might have been a bit too much. The spice level did not meet my expectations as I did not taste much spice at all. This was a bit disappointing to me, because I was expecting more flavor with the spice. The fried okras were also disappointing as it was not seasoned at all. It was just your typical okra with fried breading around it. I believe there are much better fried chicken spots out there compared to Gus's. Would I eat here again? Of course, maybe I'll try it in a different state this time to compare it. Service: The young lady who was taking the orders and serving the customers was very sweet and kind. She was working hard to make sure everyone was taken care of, even when it was quite busy.

We ordered the chicken sandwich that is advertised on a bun and got a raw chicken thigh on two pieces of white bread.

    Horrible tasting side items

Worse tasting finely chopped collard greens in history SERIOUSLY glory greens in the can is more flavorful.. Chicken was tasty (spicy) Mac and cheese flavors we prefect, but noodles were over cooked. Bake beans were ok, (most definitely had no added love just plan busher bake beans with a little more sugar added Coleslaw same as other items I referred to above (no added love just store bought and put onto my plate) Guess myself and husband review means this chain restaurant sucks badly or maybe just this location, either way We pass. Far too many more authentic soul frood restaurants in the area..

The confirmation text didn't come through until we were already inside, which might be bad reception, but it almost cost us the table. Then they sat us right across from the back kitchen entrance. Banging, yelling, and an open doorway into the kitchen. Off-putting, especially with better seating clearly open. The food keeps the rating up. I did not expect a wings place, but the smoked wings were my favorite, right amount of crispy with good smoke. The sauce list is long and I couldn't pick a favorite. The ranch tasted house-made and it was amazing. The chikin soho was the other standout. Honey ginger glaze, chili dijon slaw, and pickles that all work together. Misses: the brisket nachos needed fresh guac and actual brisket, since there was barely any. The 6 cheese mac was fine but not worth ordering again. Prices were right for what it is, a bistro concept. It's in Wayne, which surprised me since I didn't know spots like this existed out here. Wide enough menu that I'll be back. Next time I'm speaking up about the seating.

My main issue was with the hash browns. I understand that I like my hash browns more crispy but these crossed the line. They were put on the griddle but weren't left there very long. They had a few darker spots but some of the potato in the center were still half raw. Lots of hard surfaces and everything appeared clean. As I said they've been there a while so atmosphere is homey. I peeled all the batter off, ate the fish and the potato, then saw what appeared to be a grayish eyebrow hair on the bottom of my plate.. that sealed the deal... the guy cooking with the salt and pepper hair and afternoon shadow beard needs to put a damn hairnet on his head and face so it doesn't end up on the plate.
