We ordered grilled oysters, a pound of shrimp (peeled and deveined), and a half-pound of king crab legs, items we're very familiar with and order often. The grilled oysters didn't seem grilled at all. They looked strange, had very little butter, and were almost completely flavorless. The shrimp was another letdown. It was under-seasoned, wasn't peeled or deveined as ordered, and was gritty. We also never received the corn that was supposed to come with the boil. We could have mentioned it, but by that point we were already so disappointed that we didn't bother. The king crab legs were clearly not fresh. The shells were so old and pliable that they bent instead of cracking properly, and the inner membrane stuck to the meat. We didn't eat it. They made another order which was the same. Our waitress said they don't receive orders for the KC often so they may have been old. Ummmmm! The service didn't help the experience. The staff seemed standoffish from the beginning. Our food was dropped off without any explanation or follow-up, and we had to ask for everything we needed instead of anyone checking on us proactively. However our waitress was happy to help us remove the crab from our bill and she was pleasant. We know this isn't representative of every Full Moon Oyster Bar because we've had fantastic meals at another location. That's what makes this experience even more disappointing. I had family in town that said they wanted seafood and specifically crab legs. Of course I came to Yelp to start deep diving and studying what the best option would be since going somewhere new for the first time with visitors to the area can be risky and who wants to deal with hungry and disappointed guests? Full moon oyster bar checked all the boxes of what I was looking for.... It's in a cute little scenic southern downtown, it has it's own internal fisherman and bar centric vibe that even had a NOLA festival painting, it had fresh seafood with ample non seafood options for those that don't want seafood (I knew at least one person might lean this way), it had a select few lower seating table options for those that can't do bar seating (I thought we may have needed this option), there were lunch specials and also a crab legs dinner option! We were lucky and able to get a spot in their parking lot. Upon entering we were greeted with a smile and promptly seated at the bar. We were also quickly served coleslaw and butter & garlic potatoes. I unfortunately can't eat coleslaw at the moment, but they were devoured by one of the people joining me. The potatoes were good to the point I was hoping someone wouldn't want theirs so I could have them but that didn't happen lol. For our app we shared chargrilled oysters which I knew I had to try being originally from Louisiana and a yearly visitor to NOLA. These oysters were a nice size, fresh, and seasoned very perfectly with butter, cheese and garlic. I prefer my chargrilled oysters slightly wetter (like garlic butter dripping off) but these hit the spot. For my main dish I had the 1/2 Poboy and soup lunch special. For my soup I chose the clam chowder (the other option was lobster bisque). Having lived in boston for 7 years before moving here, I can say this chowder was waaaaay better than even some of the boston chowders! The flavor was soooo delicious, creamy, and comforting. It was full of clam and potato...another personal preference is I wish it was sliiiiightly thicker but nothing a single pack of crumbled crackers couldn't fix! My half Poboy was also very good. The shrimp was seasoned well, the bread was a perfect Poboy flakey with a stiffer buttered bottom and a slightly softer top, and the sauces inside were also delicious (one was maybe a sweeter cocktail sauce)? Overall I was very impressed with this spot and relieved that everyone joining me on my first visit enjoyed their food (crab legs, ribeye sandwich, and oyster Poboy)! We even were able to watch someone shuck a whole bucket of fresh oysters behind the bar. I revisited this place after years and I forgot how good it is! It definitely has the beach town feel because the whole place is a bar that wraps around the whole restaurant. Such a cool concept! They crack your oysters for you fresh and they are amazing!!! I tried shrimp, clams, mussels, oysters, and crab legs. They were all delicious, but a tad overcooked. The oysters however were perfect and HUGE!!! I honestly dont recommend the hushpuppies. They were disappointing but the drinks, potatoes and cole slaw were made perfectly. I didnt take away any stars because the service was so amazing and the food mostly tasted great! Nothing can be perfect and they almost hit the mark. I just found out about Full Moon from a friend but I have already been twice and it was great both times. They start you out with a side of boiled potatoes. They're super seasoned and buttery. It was a nice introduction. The place stays pretty busy but I had no issues being sat either time I've visited. Most people seem to go for the oysters but I'm not a raw oyster girl so I tried some favorite entrees both times. The first time I got the shrimp and grits-it was different than a normal shrimp and grits-this was a grit cake in a nice spicy cream sauce with shrimp. I would say it was pricier than most for shrimp and grits I've had for the portion size but no complaints. This most recent time I got a harvest salad and the crab dip. Both were really good-I would have liked toasted bread for the dip instead of the loaf bread provided. They have great specials and I'll definitely be back. read more

Recently I enjoyed a Friday evening with dinner at the Full Moon. The location was extremely busy and full of patrons enjoying meals. The layout of the restaurant was interesting with large central bars. The menu is the star at this restaurant being a seafood lovers dream. Aw a walk in it took about 45 mins to get seated but with Adjacency to good local bars time flew past. The service you received was as good as could be expected with a busy bay. The shrimp cocktail was tasty but the shrimp are extremely small and only 6 so definitely not a shareable. I had the chargrilled oysters and they had great potential. All the flavors were there but they were left a bit too long to cook and half my order was burnt. The soup was phenomenal, as was the peel and eat shrimp. I would love to go back on a day that isn't as hectic and hope for better oyster. The potato salad did make up for a couple of the black shells. read more

The grit cakes and creole sauce were incredible, and the shrimp was perfectly cooked. I love that they use grit cakes so it is not just a pile of mush. The crab stuffed oysters were phenomenal. Our party also ordered crab legs, raw oysters, and bacon wrapped scallops, and we were extremely pleased with all of them. The service was friendly and the restaurant itself was clean and inviting. We went on a Sat afternoon around 1pm, the place was full and we (group of 5 ) waited 15 min. Ive been to the one in Clemmons, this one is about same size. Seats all around the bar. The food was great - pretty much everything we had was fresh and amazing. Fried oyster appetizer and fried calamari- not greasy and with light batter. Flavorful and crunchy. Shrimp broil - portion so large I could not finish. Fried basket - portion is also pretty large - my mom is pretty picky and even she liked it. Today we went to Full Moon Oyster Bar. For starters I got the crab stuffed mushrooms (12 dollars), they were good but I think the bread crumb ratio was off, too many bread crumbs in my opinion. My girlfriend had half a peck of the house oysters which they shuck and serve in front of you, she LOVES oysters (market price), she said they were delicious. She always eats them with salt and lemon. For me, I had a "build your own boil" with shrimp (24 dollars) and snow crab legs (20 dollars/cluster). Now when I see the words boil, I think like.. Red Crab Seafood type of boil where it's super messy and flavorful. I was a bit underwhelmed when I realized it was all just steamed and had some dry seasoning and butter on it. Because of this, it literally just tasted like steamed seafood. Which i mean that's not bad, but when you're expecting a flavor bomb and you don't get one, it's a little depressing. The potatoes they serve as a free side were pretty average, we both don't like slaw in general so we didn't try it. The bread was super crispy and broke int several pieces when bitten. This place has a typical bar atmosphere and seems to be pretty lively. The service was very quick and friendly. The total was about 97 dollars, so it is a little bit pricey especially if you get the market priced items, for example, the 140 dollar king crab. I'm not sure if I'll go back, if I do I'll get something that's not the "boil" and try a cocktail. We celebrated a birthday at Full Moon last week. It was a great time!. We got there early (5pm) because we had movie tickets after and heard of the long wait times. Going that early on a Saturday was no problem. Got seated right away. We started off with the crab dip everyone races about it was good, but it wasn't very hot. The garlic bread served with it was outstanding!!! I should have asked if we could order one with our dinner. So good. While we waited for our dinner, my husband wanted to try a Quarter Moon. He loves spicy things. So we ordered just one. He really liked it Now you need to know my husband is very competitive, so when he saw there was a T shirt challenge, he had to do it. He ordered 5 more. By this time our dinner came and we were sharing the full Moon platter. We were a few bites in when the other 5 quarter moons arrived Lucky for me, he focused on the oysters and I got to finish most of the platter myself By the 4th quarter moon, he was sweating and chugging water. The full Moon was perfect to share. The clams, shrimp,and oysters (grilled) were very good The crab legs were a bit over done. In the end he got his T-shirt, we had a great dinner and fun night. The reason being is because of the size. This place seems to be hugely popular and it has a very fun vibe that really makes it feel like a beach bar. The servers are friendly and very hard working as well. The drinks were very beachy and I loved them. They also have a few of their own beers which were light and go well with their menu. The menu is much more Oyster-shack than seafood restaurant which is exactly what they advertise, but if you're looking more of coastal style seafood place they have limited options - not no options, just less than you might be looking for. They also don't have any specific Gluten Free options, however much of this kind of menu is naturally GF so you can find something for sure. You may want to check the menu before coming in though. The place was busy at what should have been off hours so be aware that it's popular and you may need to wait. That also means it likely won't be a good place to just grab a drink if you're not hungry. Next time I'm in Jamestown, this will be high on my list of places to revisit. read more

My husband and I drove 30 minutes to come to this location for his birthday. He wanted the oysters and I was looking forward to having the all-you-can-eat crab legs. When we received our bill there was 18% gratuity added to a table of 2????? $34 gratuity of 18%. I spent 50 years in the restaurant service business and have never seen this nor would I allow it in any of my restaurants. By the establishment doing this it allows the servers to give 'whatever' kind of service they feel like giving because they get a whopping tip at the end of the meal, for a two top!!! The service we received deserved 10% at best. My plate of shells heaped up with no clean up offered. I was not offered a side of fries or hush puppies and didn't even know they came with the order until I read the entire menu when I got home. (Mostly to find the 18% gratuity notation that the 'manager' said was on the menu, which was not). I had to wave down someone to refill my drink and we waited 15 minutes for our check when we were just standing there waiting. When I spoke with the manager about this added tip (she just happened to be our server) she told me that the menu states (I found this nowhere on the online menu!!!) there is 18% gratuity added when ordering the Tuesday all-you-can-eat special so there is something for the servers??? This 'special' was $65!!!! To say 'so there is something for the servers' goes against everything I would ever allow as a business owner. I explained my disappointment of this practice to her so she was very aware of how upset I was. The least she could have done was offer to split our check and only place the 18% on my half because, technically, I'm the only one that received the all-you-can-eat??? We were dinged on the entire bill for 18% gratuity! I do believe we are do a credit of $17 at the very least! My husband and I have been to 4 of your locations (Asheboro, Atlantic Beach, Jamestown, Clemmons) some many times. We are the kind of diners that typically tip 20% when we go out, definitely when dining on one of our holidays. It is just the principal that they added 18% to a table of two, gave no heads up and didn't even service our table fit for a 15% tip. Needless to say, this put a huge damper on what should have been a celebratory evening for my husbands birthday. We will not be back due to the way this was handled at this location and this horrible customer service policy!!!! read more

Best place for seafood in all the triad - hands down. Let's start with the complimentary potatoes - they are the best buttery goodness ever to see a bowl. We started with half a dozen steamed oysters - always a fav AND they shuck them for you! We typically get the full moon to share, but on this night my hubby indulged on the full moon solo - and he ate it all! I was craving pasta and opted for the clam linguine - it was fabulous! This night we also ordered lobster bisque and clam chowder - i preferred the chowder and he preferred the bisque - a lucky occurrence. Ordered the crab stuffed mushrooms - they were fine but not the highlight. Seating is all at the bar - which I thought would be challenging with little ones, but my toddler managed like a champ! The service is always on point. I was concerned about possibly getting the side-eye for bringing a tot - on the contrary. She (and we) were made to feel right at home! Unforgettable experience! The restaurant is small and quaint. It consists of a bar top that wraps around several rooms with a friendly atmosphere. Once seated they take your order and the sides arrive; cole slaw and home fried potatoes. The kind your memaw makes, every morsel is delectable. Then our lobster/ crab deviled eggs arrived with huge chunks of lobster. Next came our entrees; seafood mornay which was a pasta dish similar to an Alfredo dish but more subtle and rich filled with shrimp and scallops. The portion was so large my sister had to take half of it home. I had chat-grilled oysters that were huge, fresh and delicious. Honestly the oysters were better than most at a 5-star restaurant in any metropolitan city. The cocktails are super reasonable and delicious. For starters the bar only seating was a bit off putting. It's fine if you're with a round table experience with random people. They had 1 actual table marked handicap wheelchair accessible which after worked at the time by my wife battling a back issue. After sitting and waiting after others sat and given drinks we where then notified of the printed out sign with the handicap notice. Why you felt the need to do this was beyond me. Full Moon has definitely become a community staple here in Jamestown, and for good reason. They have a fun environment with great drinks, an extensive seafood based menu, and a location right in the heart of downtown Jamestown, which has always had an excellent Main street USA feel. For me, I don't often go for dinner, but as I work from home in the area closeby, I do go for their lunch menu time and time again. There is a nice variety of sandwiches and smaller seafood plates, but the prices are reasonable, and the dishes come out fairly quickly. You also still get the steamed red potatoes and the cole slaw that you would at dinner, which are delicious and help the meal be a bit more hearty. On my most recent trip, I went with the Shrimp Po' Boy. The bread was light and tasty, and there was a decent amount of plump and lightly battered shrimp on there. I wouldn't go so far as to say generous, but for a lunch portion, it was plenty with the fries, potatoes, and slaw (you can also snack on crackers as well). Good sandwich! I also really like their fries, they're the kind that have just a touch of batter on the outside that make them so crispy but almost buttery on the inside. Keep in mind all seating is bar seating, as the style of the restaurant wraps around this concept. Good place to meet a friend for a casual dinner, or even for a date. I'll continue to return for a lunch treat, as my usual dinner date is not a big fan of seafood, haha. read more
