3 Piece Dark Plate with okra and greens
    Melissa E.

Stopped in for a wuick meal when visiting Birmingham and definitely wasn't disappointed! The staff was super friendly and welcoming and it was such a cute place right next to a great brewery! The chicken was crispy and the perfect amount of seasoning and heat. I loved the flavor and crunch of the okra too. The greens were well seasoned but had a little grit? I still ate and enjoyed. I wish coconut pie sliced had a little more filling but had great flavor. Definitely sto in and try this place!

It seems the new ownership has Gus's finally back on the correct track. I'm happy because it had gotten bad there for a minute. They even sell alcohol now. I stopped by here on a Sunday afternoon to grab a to go snack. The service was friendly and it didn't take long for my order. My food was hot & delicious! I had one chicken breast and some fried green tomatoes. The FGT were really good- my first time having them but won't be my last. I really appreciated the TVs being on the NFL game, so I was able to see the broncos / chiefs game. Go BRONCOS!! ( we won) This is a comfortable, chill spot to grab some hot chicken solo or with family / friends!

I cannot put into mere words how amazing the fried chicken is here at Gus'. In a busy downtown area of Birmingham, bustling with construction work, we were able to secure parking and went right in to be seated. They had a 2 breast and 2 side special ($13.25). So I had that with Cole slaw and potato salad. All plates come with white bread. I also got a sweet tea. Service was efficient and accurate. The fried chicken had almost no breading and was crunchy and crispy. Not greasy in the slightest. The Cole slaw was good but I preferred the potato salad (just a preference). The collards looked good too! We would absolutely go back here in a half second and suggest you run to this place!

Incredible chicken! Cooked fresh and crispy! All the sides are fantastic as well. The service was very quick despite being pretty busy and the tables were clean and quiet. Definitely worth trying for some of the best fried chicken in town

They have gluten free fried chicken!!! Out of pure excitement when the food finally came - it was crispy hot and fresh fried, but it took a bit to get to the table, I completely forgot to snap a pic before we devoured it! The service was so friendly. Be careful floors are a bit slippery walking around especially towards the restroom, I almost fell. But the food was so so yummy! I haven't been able to enjoy fried chicken due to gluten in so many years and this was perfect! I will definitely go back whenever we're in town, I got zero reaction and I am very sensitive to gluten! Highly recommend!

There's a reason Gus's stays busy and they have the footprint they do around the US. They make fried chicken that tastes like it was made at home by your grandma with a years old recipe. The chicken is crispy and juicy, and seasoned well. There's a good variety of sides to choose from (which are hit or miss depending on the day as others have said) too. The service can be a bit slow at times but it's not too slow where it ruins the dining experience.

Gus's is Back!!! Rating: Oh. My. Goodness!! Gus's World Famous Chicken is BACK, baby! Let me tell you, it's been a hot minute since I've stepped through those doors. Honestly, I had stayed away because the quality just wasn't hitting like it used to. But TODAY? Oh, today was a whole different story. The moment I walked in, I could feel the energy in the air. The team running the show? Absolute dream team material! It was like watching a well-oiled machine--but make it fun, friendly, and fast. And let's give the cook his flowers, because WOW. This person was on fire (figuratively, of course). Orders were flying out of the kitchen faster than I could blink, but every plate was cooked to perfection. And let's talk about the food. Y'ALL. The chicken was crispy, juicy, and seasoned like someone whispered a secret recipe handed down from the chicken gods themselves. This wasn't just chicken; it was an experience. If you've been avoiding Gus's because you thought it lost its touch, stop what you're doing and GO. Whatever magic they've worked behind the scenes is absolutely paying off. I left with a full belly and a big smile, already planning my next visit. Gus's, you've won me back--and I'm here to stay!

Wow! Sure wish they had fried chicken like this by our house! Located in downtown Birmingham, Gus is pretty easy to find. Street parking in the area is plentiful although you may have to walk half a block or more as it is located right next-door to a big brewery that also has a lot of foot traffic. There are no reservations excepted, so be prepared to wait during peak hours although we had no problem sitting right away on a Saturday afternoon. Our server was super pleasant and had everything under control as she pretty much took care of the entire dining room on her own! Teas and soft drinks are readily available; beers are located on the menu, however It wasn't clear as to whether or not they were serving. Regardless, there was plenty of chicken to be had! The dining room is your basic, southern fried chicken joint, super clean! We started with the fried green tomatoes as our appetizer, and actually ended up having a second portion - they were so awesome! Their chicken has got to be some of the best I have had in a long, long, long time. In retrospect, we had the regular chicken which had a nice bit of heat to it, and kind of wish we had tried the spicy version too! You can order combos, by the piece, or in larger batches if you've got the room. They cater and again sure, wish they had one of these by us. There are also specials that are posted on the chalkboard inside the door. The day we were there, they were offering a fried catfish special, and again, wish we had tried some of that too! While this the original location, recognized as one of the top 10 places to get fried chicken in the country, they do now have franchises with over 30 locations. All I can say, is you have to come here and try some of Gus's chicken! Sure wish they had one of these by us, or did I already say that a couple of times?!

Solid fried chicken and fried okra - portion sizes here are huge and I had enough for a second meal. Staff was super nice throughout!

Seen this place numerous times while working in the area and decided to check it out. In no way was I disappointed. Reasonably priced and some of the best fried chicken I've had. Just a hole in the wall place but clean and inviting. If you're in the area and looking for friend chicken be sure to stop in.

Friendly staff. Casual environment. Famous for chicken, but the fried okra is my jam. The reason for stopping by was the Not Your Father's Root Beer. We couldn't find it any where else. Beer and okra hit the spot!

My husband and I wanted to try something different for dinner, and he loves fried chicken so we decided to seek out a chicken place we hadn't tried yet. And boy, this place didn't disappoint. Our chicken was crispy and fried to perfection. The flavor was phenomenal and the chicken was still nice and juicy. I added hot sauce to mine because I love it spicy The sides were all very good too. But obviously, the chicken is star of the show

One thigh, one breast plate w okra and slaw. So good. Wow.
    Paige K.

That's some good fried chicken! Battered and dropped in the fryer fresh to order. Just spicy enough that I was happy to have the slaw, which was just like grandma's. The okra was better (sorry Grandma). Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Fresh. Perfect. They give you a fork and knife, but let's be real. Roll up your sleeves and pull the chicken off the bone. Get messy, and enjoy yourself. Good luck saving room for pie!

The lady who took my order said they have a regular chicken tenders meal but I said I wanted the kids meal cause I don't eat a lot. She then said "It's the same amount of food." which, ok cool, but I don't think that should be said cause they can lose out on money. Just my opinion. And FYI, I very often get kids meals cause I really don't eat a lot. Not trying to save money or anything. The meal came with two chicken tenders, sauce, fries and a drink. Fries were good. Nothing to complain about. Those tenders tho.....YUM!!! So much flavor. And the ranch I got with it....yes! Not sure when I'll be in Birmingham again but I will 100% go back and try other items!

The fried chicken at Tracks and Surfside Club is way better than at Eugene's. The cole slaw is also better. My girlfriend is a native of Alabama and she was no fan either. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and since it was such a beautiful day, we decided to enjoy the patio. However, I took off a star because not a single staff member shared how things work there! After being told we could sit anywhere, we found ourselves just waiting without any guidance. At last, a server delivered food to the table next to ours, which prompted us to ask why no one had come to us. She was super apologetic and handed us menus while explaining that we need to go to the register to order and pay first, and then we'd get a number for our table. As for drinks, if you want an adult beverage, you have to order those separately at the bar. You'd think there'd be some signage indicating the process since it's a bit different from the usual! But let's talk about the food! We split the shrimp & grits and chicken & pancakes. While I usually prefer my grits creamy, I still found the shrimp mix to be tasty! The pancake was a tad thick for my liking, but the fried chicken was definitely the highlight--it was absolutely delicious! Oh, and the Hennessy Margarita? Totally on point! Overall, this place is definitely worth a visit!

Fry chicken is tasty with perfect crisp. Collard greens were seasoned well and perfect texture. Yams (my favorite) was perfect - flavorful, not too sweet and firm but not hard. Both of us thought the Black eyed peas looked really good but taste bland. I would have preferred it without the Okra. I didn't see that when I ordered. One in our group commented the meat loaf was good. The dressing was really good too - well seasoned and tasty. After paying there's a dining area for self seating. It would make the experience much more pleasant to enjoy their delicious food. I took off two stars for that reason and yes it's that unpleasant as the tables/chairs are also too clustered together.
