Gus's is pretty good all over its locations, so no complaints on their product. Issue is that the hot, fried chicken melts the styrofoam box and you end up eating/biting carcinogenic chemicals accidently with your chicken meal, and this was not the 1st time I experienced with this chain. Our friends took us here on our first visit to the Memphis area because they said it is world famous! And as we pulled up the sign proved true, right there it said fried chicken world famous! I thought it was pretty cool that this is a fried chicken place (which is a staple meal in the south) that is made gluten free!! We got the mac and cheese and beans too which were good. I loved the fried okra it was super yummy. And the sweet teeth is definitely so sweet it can make your teeth hurt aka it's delicious. I'm so disappointed. My chicken tenders were tough and rubbery. I couldn't even chew them. The portion sizes are the smallest I've ever seen. At over $4 each side, you get a tiny little cup. Won't be going back until they change this. Hattie B's has better portion sizes. read more

Late night visit, placing a to-go order. Service was amazing, although it was only to go! NayNay (I hope I'm spelling it correctly) was our server and was so patient and helpful. I mean, it's Gus's so it not an overly complicated menu but we were deciding how much to order. Never felt rushed or unwelcome. They offered drinks while we waited for all of our food to be prepared. I've been to several Gus Chicken restaurants in Memphis and this one stood out today. It's located in Germantown, TN. The food here is absolutely delicious! The chicken breast was bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. Highly recommend the fried green tomatoes . The food was hot and Freshly made to order. It was perfectly seasoned and everything came out on time and very hot. The service was great too. They made sure to check on us and also offered refills and it was a pleasant experience. This Gus's location has always done me right! If you ain't had it, it's a lil bit spicy. I'll add hot sauce every time though. I have had some big pick up orders over the years for parties and such. The food has always been hot and fresh every single time. Chicken is always always always great! They deliver in DoorDash and we get it delivered a good bit to us in Olive Branch, MS. Food still arrives fresh even after a long DD ride too! The building is an old bank, but you would be hard pressed even realizing it was a boring ass bank and not a fire chicken place. Delicious! I got white meet and it was crispy, juicy, and hot (temp wise)! Really liked the flavor, but wish there was some more flavor heat. They provide hot sauce, so that was nice! We came on a Friday night fully expecting to wait, and did so happily, since we love Gus's. We came in and watched as the group ahead of us were greeted, sat, and attended to. Although we were next in line, we were never acknowledged by the servers. When a table finally opened up after 30 minutes of waiting, another party (that came in 5 minutes prior) scooped it up before we had a chance to stand up from the waiting area. This was very upsetting because we assumed that the server would come get us after cleaning the table the same way she did for the party before us (as the floor was at max capacity.) We immediately asked staff if there was anything that could be done, but they dismissed us and referred to the "first come first serve" sign. This was especially disappointing and frustrating after watching the party ahead of us get different treatment. It would be nice if Gus's reconsidered their "first come first serve" approach on busy nights so this doesn't happen to other customers who want to dine. It put a bad taste in our mouth, likely will not return to this location. read more

Fried Green Tomatoes $8.00 no seasoning but prepared properly , ordered Collard Greens no flavor very bland not cooked with Ham Hocks and full of stems, MacN Cheese not creamy but stiff and some cheese thrown in to provide some flavor and color. The restaurant has a steady stream of customers that have never had real Southern cooking. The area was Germantown very high end and beautiful homes that are breathtaking. I truly am so curious what kind of chicken the people who gave Gus's 1 or 2 stars like, because mine was amazing. My friend and I were annoying and showed up about 30-40 minutes before the restaurant closed because we were desperate for Gus's, and they were so sweet about everything. We were blessed to have Kim as our server, because she provides amazing service in addition to being so sweet and fun. My 3-piece dark meat and my friend's tenders were hot and seasoned well. We also got the fried green tomatoes and for sides, fried okra, beans, and coleslaw. I do not like tomatoes that much generally, but fried green tomatoes are bomb, and these were definitely bomb. I thought the fried okra was okay, but I think that was more of a me and okra thing. The beans were good, but honestly, I would not be surprised if they were Bush's beans. The coleslaw was a surprise to me, 'cause I hate coleslaw, but this one was pretty good. Not that I came here just for this, but flying to Memphis to eat here was worth it. read more

Have had Gus's many times as take out but yesterday we had fifteen of us eating in the dining area of Gus's Germantown location. Food was as delicious as usual but the added bonus was our server Kim. Kim took our Gus's experience to a new level. Great server as she kept up with us the entire meal, got our order right the first time and kept our cups full. Kim was able to help the first timers with questions they had about the food and servings and was just a very pleasant person. The no frills attitude of the restaurant lends all the focus onto the quality of the chicken. As a spicy food lover, the dredge had just enough of a kick to satisfy. For parking, I suggest you skip the parking lot right next to the building, and instead use the shopping center parking lot. A few more steps, but when the lot is busy, you'll hate that you are parked in it. Whatever you do, don't drive around the back and it is difficult to get back out if cars follow you back there! That in mind, this Gus's is highly recommended! 2018: Love Gus's chicken! Spices are great, and it's always cooked fresh when ordered. TIP: It's a little on the spicey side, not too spicey, but you will feel a little kick in the back of your throat after a while. I ordered the chicken strips because I was told they weren't spicey. But yesterday I read an article in Southern Living by Rick Bragg about fried chicken. And he mentioned Gus's chicken. Had to go get some chicken before some terrible weather moved through.. Called it in, here I want to give a big shout out to Tevin C. He was great on the phone and when I picked up our order in the Germantown store. We drank sweet tea, but they had a nice selection of beer, including local craft beers. The restaurant is one of the cleanest I have been in. Service is friendly and quick.
