The special was two breast and two sides.

The food was good. The chicken has a flavor unlike any other with a proper heat to it. Not so hot you won't enjoy it. Staff kept up with drinks and any request that could arise. Plenty of seating area for this type of restaurant. The restrooms could use some attention but we were there mainly for the food.

My buddy who has lived in Lee's Summit for 40+ years said this is the best chicken he's ever had in his life. It's pretty close to that for me. I still like Stroud's, but this might be a little better. It's spicy. It wasn't too spicy for me or any of the four of us. Though my wife and my friend's husband were both heated up a little, but said they would return. The beans were too sweet for me, so I got collard greens and they were delicious!! My wife's mac'n'cheese was top shelf! REALLY good!! Our lovely server was super helpful with suggestions and refills. We tipped her 30%. She was fantastic! The chicken is not cooked until you order it. It comes out HOT!!! Each of us had to "open it up and wait" as my wife said. Wait for it to cool off a bit. Too hot to pick up. I just love that everything was fresh!

I was kid free for the night and wanted something delicious and easy. Gus's had been in town for a little bit and so I decided to try it. I am not usually one who wants spicy chicken and had been told it was really hot. The night I went they had a special of two thighs, two legs, bread, coleslaw and beans. For 50 cents more I switched the beans to the potato salad the waitress recommended. The iced tea here is brewed which is always a win for me. For dessert I took home the sweet potato pie! Chicken was hot and super fresh. It was spicy but not kick you in the face, just I am gonna give you the sniffles for an hour. Lol. It was so juicy and tender and crunch on the outside was top notch. The potato salad had just a slight sweet kick but I liked it because it didn't have a bunch of crud in it. No chucks of celery or onion. The coleslaw was light and refreshing. It was a cream sauce but it was not under or over sauced. It was delicious and I am super picky about coleslaw. I ate the sweet potato pie at home. It was good but a little to sweet for me. Which is ok cause sweet souther pies are supposed to be that way. The texture was spot on and I would recommend it to others. I would not take my parents here and it's to spicy for them, but I will be back.

Make sure to check your to-go order before you leave. I received 2 of 3 pieces of chicken, so I called, and I had to drive back for my other piece (-gas$, -time, food getting cold), or have a credit for 1 piece for 'next time'. In addition to that, the chicken was overcooked and dry, unfortunately, which makes me feel compelled to share this experience with my community. Normally I would let this stuff slide, but it was too disappointing... I loved this restaurant when it opened, but this experience leaves a bad taste. All I can say now is the quality seems to be down, and prices are up, and I won't risk my money next time.

I wanted to love this place so much! We've been looking forward to it opening for so long The service was exceptionally slow. We were greeted and told we could sit anywhere. Then we sat and waited for about 15 min and finally had to go and find a waitress to take our order. The fried pickles were excellent, but the coleslaw was average, the fries were below average and the chicken was *extremely* dry. I ordered all white meat and my husband ordered dark meat. Both were super dry. The chicken looked great on the plate, but it wasn't juicy or tender at all. The spice level wasn't really what I would call "spicy" either but they do. Overall, really underwhelming. Not sure I'd be interested in going back. Edited to add: We had four people dining. We ordered 4 meals, one soft drink, one beer and two waters. It was $75 + tip.

I was in KC for the weekend and googled for the best fried chicken. From the moment I parked I loved it. The service was super fast. The restaurant was clean. The meal was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend.

4 leg special, fries and okra! It was really good I will be coming back!!!!!

The chicken was delicious and fried to perfection. The heat level was there but not too spicy. The service was pretty good had to wait for another drink refill as they were not busy but hey not to bad. And the restaurant was clean and the bathroom was clean and the air worked, as we are in KC. And if you know anything about KC in the summer! ITS HOT HOT!!!! Overall I will make a drive from Warrensburg to Lees Summit Gus's Famous Fried Chicken

An option for those that can't have real hot and spicy chicken. Even the kids meal chicken was so spicy that they couldn't eat it.

As transplants from another state, and BBQ not being our first language, we wanted to try new things! They came to the table and we were all sort of perplexed. Were they supposed to look like...that? Either way, we dug in. They were cold in the middle, also a strange discovery to us. I ordered the burnt ends, which came to the table closer to cold than warm. The blue cheese potato salad was tasty and all it needed was a lil salt and pepper to make it perfect. All was going well, until my husband was about 4-5 bites into his brisket wrap. He asked me to smell it, and I did. It was funky! Smelled a lot like a foot and not a lot like a tortilla. He asked the server to smell it and they agreed it was a bit odd. The manager came over and denied it smelling like anything. My husband had finished his meal, and we weren't looking for a freebie but wanted to let them know it was a lil weird. Instead of acknowledging the potential issue, we were dismissed as "wrong." It just didn't sit right with me. My husband had some definite issues in the hour or two after eating, so we won't be back. I won't say it was food poisoning because genuinely it could have just not agreed with my husband. I'll put my disclaimer on here, I hope people do enjoy and continue to patronize this small business, it's just not to my liking.

We always opt for the fresh mashed potatoes, the honey glazed baby carrots, and country seasoned green beans... They're always perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. We love the honey buttered fresh croissants they generously serve, complimentary to everyone. I'lI tell you a secret price hack... If you order the veggie plate, which gives you 5 sides: 4 regular sides of your choice, plus a soup or salad (or substitute a 5th side choice instead) then add on a side of 3 thicken tenders (which are hand battered and cooked until they're a moist, tender, crunchy perfection of a tender.) for only $3.99, you'll get a real awesome deal!l It's like ordering their regular chicken tender dinner - but only now, you're getting 5 side choices!!! Doing it that way, you're getting 3 extra sides for the same basic price of the regular tender dinner with only 2 sides! You're welcome! That's my not-so-secret hack now. The chicken wraps were flavorful, fresh, and filling without being too heavy, and the fish was cooked just right--crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed, making it a good spot to sit down and enjoy a meal without feeling hurried. Like another iconic joint in the metro, this one is a former gas station. The brisket at that place is a little bit better. However, everything else that I tried here is spectacular. The sliced brisket was just a little dry. It wasn't bad. The sausage was amazing. It is housemade with green onions and incredible. I generally don't care for sausages that are different, but this one is exceptional and everyone at the table tried it and loved it. The pulled pork was fresh, which is super important and delicious! Wonderful smoky flavor and super tender. They know exactly what they're doing with pork. I'm gonna say that the beans here are the best in the metro. I'm very particular and I don't like beans that are too sweet like Slaps. Those gag me. The Filling Station beans are absolute perfection. Other reviews say the same.
