We were given a table in front of a serving area and had to request for a better table. This was available so there was room for better seating. The waitress was friendly and accommodating we ordered from both the happy hour menu and the regular menu. This review is 100% related to my experience from walking in the door of the restaurant and my interaction with Manager, Lori at the Clackamas location. I arrived at 5:30 pm and requested to be seated in the bar for Happy Hour. Lori rolled her eyes, turned her back on me and walked away from the Host podium. I asked if there was an issue to which she said Happy Hour is almost over. I asked, doesn't it go until 6 pm? She ignored my question. I then asked her if something was wrong or if she was having a bad day? Again, I was ignored. Not one smile from her or greeting. She seated our party and provided us with regular menus even though we asked for the Happy Hour menu only. This caused us to have to request it from our server. Came here for dinner, been some time and got seated right away. My mom ordered the turkey dinner with gravy and mashed potatoes. There was not a lot of gravy on the dish so she asked for the more and he waiter said "we do charge an additional .75 cents for some more gravy" and my mom said sure thinking that she was going to get a good amount of gravy. Our waitress was hands down the best waitress we've ever had! All of the staff was super attentive, polite, kept our waters and other drinks refilled, and more. The food was super hot temperature wise and was some of the best Gustav's we've ever had. There was a slight snafu that one person in the party's food didn't come out with the rest of the food, but our waitress went above and beyond to make it correct and profusely apologized. We will 100% be back because of the experience we had celebrating my birthday. I wish I had caught the waitress' name because she was literally so amazing! This place is under new management. The original owners did a great job an the service was good. We went there this evening and waned to sit in the bar for some me dessert. We were ignored for about 15 minuets until a server came by with some water. We continued to wait for several more minutes until we finally gave up and left. The amount of actual Prime Rib, in their Prime Rib Sliders, on their Happy Hour menu is minuscule. We always enjoyed going to Gustavs, times and management change. Stopped here on a whim during a Saturday afternoon. Grew up going to the Rheinlander in Portland on Sandy Blvd. Hoping for a taste of that goodness. Gustav's Pub did not disappoint. When you have an awkward social event, its good to have cheap beer, assorted cocktails, and drippy cheese with carbs available for, well, solace and comfort. It was my youngest brother in law's birthday. Never mind that I have moved out on his sibling, it was requested that my daughter be there with her parents in tow. So we went. Gustav's. Happy Hour. Vancouver even. Ten of us sat at a booth with two tables attatched. Our server Kyle ( who my MIL said looked like Tom Cruise but taller) was awesome. My two $4.50 happy hour lemon drops were delicious. Everyone loved their beverages including the driver who had iced tea and my kid with her strawberry lemonade. Several people tried eissomethingorother beer and loved it. Its not on the menu. Lots of fondue was consumed. We observed potato pancakes, sauerkraut, burgers, pork tenderloin, sausage and strudel. Everything is reasonably priced $2-10. Princess had mashed potatoes, half my salmon, and another salmon of her own. It was perfectly cooked with a little pickled cauliflower and yellow pepper salad next to it. I really enjoyed that. I had salad with roasted beets, arugula, and feta.It was tasty. I also shared a fondue sampler. My fav was the crab red pepper. No the pesto. No the crab. Ok both. We needed more bread. More bread cost us $2. Then we realized other people had leftover bread. Doh! My mother in law shared her green beans. They were crisp tender perfection and one of my favorite things of the night. Princess had ice cream. Her dad ate flourless chocolate cake. It was delicious. It had crunchy toffee on top which gave it a nice texture. Slightly sweet whipped cream and a mint leaf made for a pretty plate. Gustavs gave birthday BIL apple strudel on the house. They do not sing so we did, because thats how we roll. He took it good naturedly. He had beer. He was cool. I think this is a good family birthday choice. Our age range was 11 to 70 and everyone was happyish. I like Gustav's. We all discussed yelp ratings and the table was split. 5 said 4. 5 said 5. 4.5. Id go back. Hey guys and gals! This place is FIVE stars and IS good as it gets. I was driving through town from Seattle on my way back to Northern California 8/18/2011. I stopped and visited two friends in the area. My long time friends husband wanted to eat here because he knew I would love it. BOY did I. I had the Pork Cordon Bleu ~ pork cutlet stuffed with Emmentaler cheese & Black Forest ham, served with creamy mashed potatoes and fresh vegetable. This plate was to DIE for. I took a photo of it because I couldn't believe how big it was. There was simply no way I was going to finish in one sitting. The first bite was heaven. I couldn't believe how good not only the cordon bleu was but also the mashed potatoes and vegetables too. UNBELIEVABLE. I finished the whole plate and was a very happy FULL man. That was just my food folks! The beer was plenty and the atmosphere was spot on. It's a place to bring your buddies and your family. I declare now and forever that when I'm in Vancouver I will always stop by and have dinner here. Last but definitely not least. The staff was one of a kind. We were served by the sweet and wonderful Nicole (Sorry if spelling is wrong Nicole). She was rich with smiles and made our night special. We used to go to this location all of the time for brunch on the weekends. We went today and we're notified they don't serve food until 11am on Sundays anymore. So basically no more brunch (11 is lunch service). They've lost a group of three regulars. Our waitress on Sunday mornings even knew our order (Moscow Mules/jagersnitzel and pretzels). I go to this place at least once every two months, and each time it's nothing short of fantastic. Was here twice in the last week, first time our order of charbroiled asparagus was a bit too fibrous... we mentioned it to the server, the chef came by, brought us another order that was excellent. Last night's order wasn't as good as the replacement from last week, but it wasn't as bad either. In any case, the staff is always incredibly nice and accommodating, and the parking lot is never too full to get a space near the door. At least, whenever I go, that is. Highly recommend the happy hour, it's available throughout the restaurant. The swiss cheese fondue is a requirement and if you run out of bread before you run out of cheese, just ask for more bread and they'll bring it by. Most everything they have tastes great, and they have a new bistro menu that's a bit less expensive than the full menu and is served at all times. One funny thing: their mashed potatoes are served shaped...kind of like soft serve ice cream with some bits of diced up carrots and greens sprinkled on top. My coworker brought his kids here once and they refused to touch them until he had a bite and kind of stirred them around so they didn't look quite so...inaccessible. But on the other part of the kids front, they have Etch-a-Sketches for them to play with. read more

My wife and I braved the cold, wind and rain last night to celebrate Valentine's Day with dinner at Gustav's. We were happy to see it really bustling and didn't mind the 30 minute wait for a table. The restaurant is really nicely decorated and resembles a really nice ski lodge inside. Our server, Mimi, was really great and attentive, as was all of the staff. Our glasses were topped off with great frequency and they made sure we were enjoying our meals and the whole experience. My wife was looking forward to the chicken schnitzel, red cabbage and mashed potatoes and it did not disappoint. The schnitzel was enormous and I thought for sure I would get to finish it off after she reached her limit but she ate the whole thing! I had the prime rib french dip sandwich and it was delicious. Gustav's never disappoints but rather exceeds our expectations with every visit. We had the sausage trio meals and loved them. The german potato salad and red cabbage was yummy and the sausages were all so tasty. The schnitzel is really good and worth it for sure. The prices are very reasonable but the food is the star. Gustav's was my wife's choice for her birthday dinner because she absolutely loves the cabbage rolls and they did not disappoint.
