Loved the food, service and ambiance. I am German, and the food was definitely authentic! Will definitely return to try a different dish.

We went to the Vancouver Gustav's for my daughter's birthday on August 5 and we're seated just before 8:00. The food was was good and The Server was efficient and polite. Ordered a bottle of wine and a couple of drinks . We enjoyed dinner and ordered dessert soon after, which was served promptly. We were halfway through dessert when some guy (not the manager) cruised past at a quick pace and said "you people need to be leaving soon, restaurant is closed." Wow. Just wow. Not even a polite, "how was you dinner?" They call it the "Hospitality" business for a reason. We went to Gustav's for Mother's Day brunch and were surprised they didn't have Mimosas. We can go elsewhere when it's time to celebrate an occasion and be treated like guests, not trespassers. We didn't complain to management, because we had already decided there was no reason to return. read more

My mom went to gustavs on 164th on Friday for happy hour and had happy hour ordered food and asked if they could bring a box to take the rest home and she was told the restaurant does not allow appetizers to be taken home! I am pissed this is something they do. U spend money at there restaurant and be told you cant take it home? This is stupid. i wont be returning also the servers were rude and annoyed read more

I recently enjoyed a quick snack at Gustav's while in Vancouver visiting family. My daughter and I stopped in for some fondue and a beer! I loved the stained glass windows in the bar! The service was friendly and prompt. Our fondue was as delicious as I remembered and our beers complimented the meal nicely!! I will definitely return my next time in Vancouver! read more

I've been coming to Gustav's since I was a kid and the atmosphere and food is always amazing! I went recently with my girlfriend and the atmosphere and food was just how I remembered! HOWEVER, we found the service at this restaurant to be a little poor . Upon being seated in the bar area, the waitress poured water for us which was room temperature. (Which I realize isn't a big deal and perhaps some people like it that way.) When the waitress returned I politely asked if we could have some ice water. She said she would bring it and allow us to look at the menu. It seemed like our server was distracted or just had too many things going on. The server forgot to bring the water when we saw her next and we had to ask again for cold water. (Again, not a big deal. The waitstaff are busy and it's easy to forget things. ) She also came up to the table a little bit after we had ordered and asked if we had ordered dinner yet. (Which isn't necessarily a bad thing to double check on. It just seemed like our server had a lot going on. Which I don't blame her for considering how busy that job can be. And I don't want to be too harsh because we don't know what she may have going on outside work as well.) Once we had finished eating, the waitress brought us the bill and took away the plates. After she walked away I noticed that the bill was about 40 dollars less than it should be. We had been given another person's bill with completely different items on it. Instead of throwing down our cash and bolting out the door, we stayed to ask the wait staff for the correct bill so we could pay in full. We were soon after given a different bill which looked more correct. We then put more cash down to pay as well as for a tip. My girlfriend and I then stayed a little longer at the table to finish our desert and drinks. The waitress came back a couple minutes later with ANOTHER bill explaining that she had not added the desert to the bill and needed another 50 cents. (Even though we had ordered the desert before the first bill was delivered!) I guess I was just surprised that after several mistakes with the bill were made already, the waitress thought it prudent to bring us yet another bill to collect 50 cents. Once again, we put down more money with enough for a tip and left the restaurant. In total we received 3 different bills and it wasn't acknowledged that we had stayed to do the right thing and pay the correct bill. read more

Service was good, atmosphere is nice. I loved Gustavs growing up and have continued going whenever I get a chance to. They have now changed the menu for the second time in the last few years and got rid of all the stuff my girlfriend and I would get every time we came. The chicken schnitzel Parmesan with pesto spatzel was our go to. And the Shepards pie as well. The fondue is also thinner than it used to be now that they changed the menu. They also no longer have the pesto fondue which was awesome. After the first menu change, it was disappointing as well to see the spatzle alfredo was taken off the menu. I'm sure people will still like this restaurant but they changed what I loved about it and now I can't see myself going here much anymore. The menu has been Gordon Ramsey'd and made smaller which I'm sure is an attempt to modernize, but I'm not a fan of it. RIP to the OG Gustavs. read more

Met a friend here for dinner on Friday after work. Haven't been here since it changed ownership and what a difference! We shared the fondue bread and sausage appetizer and we were off to a great start. For the entree I ordered the stuffed cabbage rolls. Oh my, they were SO good! Nothing was left on my plate, not a crumb! Would loved to have sampled dessert but I was much too full. I'll go back definitely and try something else, maybe....or I may just reorder the cabbage rolls. They were THAT good! read more

OH NO!!!! Gustav's, PLEASE don't continue down the path of cutting corners and quality! You USED to be SO great, but are heading down the wrong path. As other reviewers have pointed out, they no longer make their chicken schnitzel from scratch in-house. The waitress confirmed that their chicken schnitzel now comes in frozen, and it is utterly terrible. DO NOT GET THE CHICKEN SCHNITZEL!!!!! The chicken and mushrooms fared far better (it's one of my favorites from the other Gustav's locations), but it used to come with a cold salad. it no longer does, but still costs the same. The crab fondue was tasty, as were the sides with the chicken schnitzel, but it is utterly heartbreaking to see Gustav's making decisions that result in poor quality. Things just seem to have gone downhill since their original store, Der Rheinlander, closed (sold to a developer to be demolished and new buildings put in its place). I used to REALLY love Gustav's, and it is heartbreaking to see it devolving before my eyes. read more

VERY predictable as I always have the Chicken Schnitzel and the Bread Fondue. Service is always great, establishment spotless and have never had a bad Gustav's experience. When needing a German food fix, this place (as well as the other locations), should be your destination. read more

Reminded us of one of our favorite places to go in Leavenworth. Ambiance and service were spot on. Giving 4 stars instead of 5 because they offered NO vegetarian main dishes. I understand that plant-based doesn't fit the German beer hall scene but not every vegetarian wants only salad or soup to choose from. I feel like they are ignoring a large population of diners. Also the bread cubes for the fondue tasted very stale. We still liked our experience overall and am happy for another decent place to eat in the Couve. read more

Sadly I write this review. My happy hour prime rib slider contained few prime rib mini pieces. The cheese fondue tasted like Alfredo sauce and the bread was dry. The happy hour sausage was just Meh. My guy seemed happy with his burger and fries but had same view of the fondue. read more

Great food and wonderful customer service!! Loved the pork schnitzel and French dip. The wedge salad was really good too.

The first time we came to Gustav's the staff was friendly and we were seated fairly quickly. Our server was outstanding. He was very prompt and professional. He also talked to us about the items on the menu and the available beverages. We enjoyed our dinner near the bar area by a window; and the next time we came we had family members with us and we were seated in an open area in the middle of the room. I called in an order as we had family in town. I ordered four fondues two with sausage, a feast, two schnitzel, and two Jager schnitzel's and proceeded to order two kids schnitzel for my toddler and my eight-year-old grandkids. I was told that I was not allowed to order my grandchildren. Anything off the kids menu. I don't think the owner knows that this is the state of Washington and it is illegal to discriminate against children. I proceeded to cancel my entire order and we went to Olive Garden where they were happy to oblige. It's funny because I actually opened a Gustav's and when Suzanne opened it, everyone was welcomed. There was a horrible manager on the phone named Sandy or Sandra, who was very impolite. I will not be back. I was excited when I heard that new owners had taken over and that the restaurant will be staying open. Unfortunately, it was the wrong people in discrimination is OK at this restaurant. read more

I believe they've come under new ownership and it definitely shows! We got carry out on a Saturday night; ordering was east and fast and everything in the order was correct. My partner is unusually picky but really enjoyed the jager schnitzel and spaetzle. I had the chicken schnitzel and the mashed potatoes were delicious. The apfelstreudel was delicious even though I don't like it with raisins. I'll be back for HH this week and expect a 5 star experience dining in! read more

Had an 18 person birthday party luncheon in the Bavarian room. Perfect venue, our server Stephanie was friendly and flawless. She even cut and served a bday cake we brought in from a bakery. We set up a small projector and screen for slideshow and we brought a very long extension cord and it worked out great. Food was plentiful and very tasty, even had a gluten free option. Was great to have so much space all to ourselves. Staff was so helpful, I don't even have a criticism. We had a wonderful event in a nice private space. read more

Food was just ok. Not the same as it was when it first opened. Menu of main courses shrunk. Alot of my favorites are gone off the menu. Service was not Good. Had to ask for a child's Menu three times and never got it. Asked if they had chicken strips for kids , she said yes , but neglected to say it was not typical chicken strips. Grandson wouldnt eat it. If we had gotten the childs menu we would have seen the description and not ordered it. She brought the drinks and we had to flag her down because she forgot to bring my husbands coke. Even though it was pretty empty it took thirty min for food to arrive. Never once came by to check if we needed anything or to refill water glasses. waited over twenty min for the check. Dinner took nearly two hours with a ADHD 4 year old! Not fun. And no she was not over loaded with Tables. She was only working 3 tables. Oh and our Food was barely look warm to cold. Gustav's is our favorite restaurant, we go for lunch 2 to 3 times a week. Upon arrival we are greeted with kindness and affection by Sandra, or Kelly and or Henrique, making us feel at home. In fact, our wedding reception was there. Typical architecture, and atmosphere easily transports us to Bavaria. We always take our friends there and enjoy the chicken schnitzel, wedge salad, burger, bread puddings and apfhelstrudel, my favorite dessert. And enjoy the German and American hospitality. I really liked this place. I had the Munich Sampler $24.95 and the classic Fondue $15.95 and they were both good. The Jager Schnitzel was good but needed more gravy. The fondue was the bomb. The sausages and meatballs are excellent here. It's a fun venue. Check it out. read more

The people and the service were wonderful. However, the food was very disappointing. We used to go to the Gustavs in Washington Square and loved it. We would always have the cheese fondue and a pretzel, goulash and sauerbraten. The only thing we had last night that was even close to the quality of what we had back then was the braised red cabbage. The cheese fondue when it slightly cooled became like melted Velveeta. The pretzel that came with it was doughy inside and awful.. we told them that and they brought us the German bread and apples and carrots. But it was the pretzel that we love. And it should have been deeply Brown and crackling crust. This one, beige at best, when you opened it, looked like it had been sitting in a bowl of water. The sauerbraten was clearly over cooked to the point of being blackened and so full of fat that it was nasty and I couldn't eat much of it. The spaetzel with both of our meals was dry and hard. That's not what spaetzel should be like. It's a noodle, that should be plump and tasty. And my husband got the special goulash, which turned out to have very little sauce to go on either the spaetzel or the meat. It was tender, but dry. Dry. I will not go back. There is a little German place on highway 101 in Lincoln City that has better German food. This was very disappointing, after being so excited that we had found that there was a Gustav's open still in Vancouver. read more

I've been back twice since my first visit. what I said about the jaeger schnitzel is still true. And my son still loves the chicken schnitzel sandwich. But the konigsbergsr klopse (meatballs with spaetzle), while good, was far too stingy for the high cost. it included only 3 sort of smallish meatballs. (I'm guessing it's because of the veal.) The spaetzle is a bit on the greasy side. The crème brûlée was just meh--we all agreed that the brulee'd crust was much too thick. My kids visiting from out of town loved the fondue cheese, but we all agreed that Deschutes has a better pretzel. I will say my youngest son loved the prime rib sliders, which were on the Happy Hour menu the day we went. read more
