While visiting Nights of Lights we stopped here for our dinner after a long drive. They were recommended by Southern Oaks Hotel/Quality Inn. The place was busy but we were seated right away. We ordered Tacos Birria at 15.99, which were just okay, Tacos Asada 14.99 but they added 3.99 for rice and beans, which my daughter said had no flavor/spices and I had the Three count plate, which was rice/beans, chicken soft taco and hamburger soft taco. Everything was good except for the hamburger taco that had no flavor. I enjoyed my spicy margarita at $10.99. My son got three tacos and he enjoyed them. Service was good. A family of four with three drinks the total was $102 plus tip of 20%. Would I go back, probably not but it is close to the hotel and there are only two other places to eat up the road. read more

Found this spot by accident when some friends were in town and my go to was closed.... NOT mad about it lol. New favorite taco spot in st Augustine! The spicy margarita was phenomenal and all of our food was The decor seems newer compared to the Beach Blvd location I tried after this spot was found. Much larger too. Don't pass this place by. The parking lot was empty and inside mostly as well on a week day we went (usually a red flag to me personally) but I'm guessing it was because it was a weekday. Had friends in town so we were playing tourists mid week. Love this spot!! read more

I brought the whole family to this place so I could get some tacos. The reviews looked pretty good and the atmosphere being a play on Nacho Libre sounded like something worth seeing. For a strip mall, the inside was neat and clean. Ana was our server and she did a great job. I ordered tacos lengua and a horchata. It came with a green and a red sauce, and neither of them were very hot. The tacos were packed with onion, cilantro and meat and came with radish and lime. Excellent flavors, definitely some of the best tacos I've had in a while. There was a plain shrimp taco, special burrito, grilled chicken bowl, and beef enchiladas. I tasted a few things and everything was pretty good. What appeared to be canned corn on the grilled chicken bowl would be better as fresh or maybe improved with a quick skillet singe. Overall though, we enjoyed it and if in the area I would definitely come back and try other tacos. read more

The food was decent. We ate in the bar area with only one person working the bar and also doing the food orders. Ambiance was great and chill until people started to drink with the bar tender and manager by doing shots. One of the biggest restaurant faux pas and something that should never ever happen. I've visited Taco Libre several times before, but unfortunately, this last visit ensured I won't be returning. Our initial server was inattentive, and eventually someone else took over. When the bill arrived, I was charged for a steak rice bowl--even though I specifically ordered it without protein and requested extra vegetables instead. The second server said he couldn't adjust the bill and brought over the manager/owner. What followed was shocking: he raised his voice at me, insisting that vegetables are "WAY more expensive than steak" and accusing me of trying to get something for free. I never asked for anything complimentary--just to not be charged for steak I didn't receive. Eventually, he changed the charge to a chicken rice bowl (which was significantly cheaper), but continued to berate me about altering menu items. I explained that I've ordered the same veggie bowl many times in the past without issue, and he responded by questioning whether I'd ever been there before, essentially calling me a liar. When I said I wouldn't be coming back, he said, "good, don't"' It's disappointing to be treated with such hostility over a simple request. Never have I encountered such unprofessionalism and verbal abuse, let alone from a restaurant manager. I hope others have a better experience, but I won't be returning. read more

Overall, just not impressed with Taco Libre. The food was lacking any flavor. The chips were stale and tasted like paper, and the salads was bland. We tried the Birria tacos and their new Tinga chicken tacos. Both had no taste. It was flavorless and boring sadly. The restaurant was pretty empty so we got our food quickly and the service was average. The decor was probably the only thing we liked about the place. Pretty sad about our meals and will not be returning. read more

We were looking for Mexican and had been here before and enjoyed it. But this time... not so much. The chips tasted like they had been cooked in old oil and were terrible. I ordered the fajita nachos... they were okay, but the veggies weren't cooked long enough and were still crunchy. Another in our party ordered a chicken chimichanga without red sauce. It came out with the sauce anyway. When she pointed that out they took it to back and attempted to scrape the red sauce off of it, turned it over, and drowned it in cheese sauce. But the worst thing was what I saw happen at another table. The server dropped off an entree to the table next to us. The patron flagged him down and pointed out that it was wrong - he realized he'd dropped it at the wrong table and took it from him and then delivered it to the correct table. I was flabbergasted - that's gross at any time, but particularly in this post-Covid world. Long story short - there are LOTS of Mexican places in St. Augustine... so do yourself a favor and pick any of the others. We will NOT be back!! read more

We haven't been there in about a year. Tonight we had chicken fajita, chicken, enchilada, beef burrito, and chicken, tostada, as well as a side of beans and rice. Every dish was flavorless and bland. Perhaps the restaurant changed hands has a different chef. Service was fast. The loud Mexican music was annoying. It was not a mariachi band, but rather a shouting in Spanish. We were excited to try this restaurant out. We arrived about 3:30pm and there wasn't anyone at the hostess station. After waiting a few minutes we walked towards the bar to see if it was a seat yourself. We were seated and the waitress arrived at our table. We ordered a variety of items from the menu - protein bowl, burrito, fish taco, Baja salad and queso. The service was not the greatest. One of our party never received the cocktail they ordered. We had to ask for more chips. Once the food arrived, the waitress never came by to ask if we needed anything or to see if the food had arrived alright. The food was good. Fish taco was exceptional! Any chicken you order here is just boiled white shredded chicken--SUPER BLAND. I do not understand it because Mexican us supposed to be spicy or full of flavor due to a spice mix. this has become my go to place for good Mexican food. not tex mex. Mexican Food. Servers and Staff are always friendly and the food is awesome. you can't go wrong on anything on there menu. Food is served hot " temperature" and that is important when it comes to my taste of Mexican food. their spices are right on and not overpowering. Chips and Salsa is amazing. Second time here in under a week. I decided to stop in today on this beautiful cinco de Mayo. I expected them to be busy. But my service was great placing a Togo order, very quick and efficient. I had a margarita while I waited which really hit the spot ( I could actually taste the liquor) . Food was great enough to where the 3 year old who normally turns his nose up was eating the chips and salsa! Food was demolished between me and my sons and for a reasonable price of only $20 bucks. For an another order of flautas, chips & salsa & the margarita! I would definitely say this is the Mexican food spot to stop in while visiting St. Augustine ! read more

Nice place, great service and a nice variety of Mexican and Amerimex dishes to choose from.

The food here is delicious. I wish they would answer the phone, but they don't. We have ordered online for work because our lunch is at 11:00 and the earliest pick up time is 11:25 which makes it hard. The customer service is okay, but there are usually lots of people just walking around while you wait for service. Anyway, back to the food-I've tried several of their tacos and enchiladas. My favorite is the shroom taco with chicken, mushrooms, and cheese. The chips are okay, but the salsa is great. I ordered a side of queso the other day and it was ridiculously small. I've never seen a side of queso this tiny. (See photo). We will continue to go here because we enjoy the food. read more

Amazing nachos and carve asada fries!! After a day of walking downtown the food here hit the spot!

we sat down at 6:10 took our sever 15 mins to greet us and get drinks. then he ran off whenever we were ready to order. he finally came back. took our order and when he did we asked about more chips and salsa bc i was nauseous and needed food. he never came back. served 3 other tables and never checked up on us once. UNTIL THE VERY END. we were so pissed and we j finally said we wanted our check. as soon as he handed us the check book we handed him our cards and he ran off again.
