We've frequented this establishment many times but tonight was prob the last time we will be back. We decided to go out for Mother's Day early to avoid the Sunday crowd. They brought our food out and my salmon was raw (I didn't order sushi) so they took it back to cook it some more. In the meantime my husband got his rib eye, which had NO marbling at all. It was a New York steak but they argued that it was not. My food finally came back cooked correctly when my husband had about 2 bites left on his plate. So I watched him eat and then he sat back and watched me eat. The manager made NO attempt to discount us on my undercooked fish. She offered me dessert (I'm a diabetic so that's a no go). The disregard for customer service left a very bad taste in our mouth and it will be a very long time before we come back. read more

Enjoyed Guthrie's River House a few times while in Somerset & I have no doubt that they're the best place to enjoy a nice seafood meal in the area. Eating on the patio offers a nice view, if the weather and wait are tolerable. Both of those things are somewhat mercurial, of course, and Guthrie's fills up fast, pretty much every day of the week. I had nothing but good experiences with service - like a 3.5 star rating, realistically - but given the bar-side staff and customer convos I had to overhear (Dear Manager: people can hear you when you meet with staff, even against the far right wall of the bar area), my guess is that not everything is functioning smoothly both in front and the back of house. Kitchen staff has an unbelievably heavy hand with their garlic in both potato gratin and shrimp...Am guessing they're using dried, from the accompanying bitter flavor. Was not ideal - and Mamma loves her some properly used garlic. It's particularly weird when dishes need salt and pepper, but have so much garlic, they border on inedible. Also, apparently, menu descriptions of items don't always match up with what is served. Significantly. As in, 5 grilled shrimp, 5 fried shrimp, 5 scampi are not 5 fried shrimp, 5 scampi, and 5 shrimp drowned in a tomato topped alfredo-ish (cheese and milk based) sauce. God-bless if I was lactose intolerant, this particular meal would have been a death sentence. The filet mignon was better. And that day, I managed to order sides that didn't turn me into a Death-by-Garlic Nancy. It's not fine dining (by a long shot), but service is friendly and intentional. read more

OMG....the nachos!! They are a must!! Do not leave here without trying them. I mean home made chips, gooey cheese, Pico, chicken, oh and did I mention homemade chips!!! Fantastic meal and service! We didn't get to set outside which was kind of the whole reason we decided to go here but everything about this place is great. I would give less than one star if possible. Lady (and I use that term loosely) at reservation desk was extremely rude. She seemed pissed off that I made my reservation online. Inside of restaurant is too dark. Food is fair at best, and outside of restaurant is rundown looking. read more

Brought my two small kids- NOT KID FRIENDLY. The staff AND owner were EXTREMELY RUDE. A/C was not working. Owner came up to my small son and asked him to turn his show down to which was on volume two and it was extremely loud I'm shocked she could even hear it because I couldn't. burgers were not cooked. We have been here many times and the food was always great. Today we stopped for lunch. I ordered the Naples chicken for the first time. My wife ordered the small fried shrimp. Both dishes came out over fried. The chicken and shrimp were both tough. We didn't say anything to the waitress. I can understand that getting good help can be hard in these pandemic times. We went for Mother's Day lunch, and I'm so glad we decided to come here! Every dish was spot on and delicious. We started with the crab filled mushrooms and spinach dip. I could eat that spinach dip every single day...it was that good. The smaller portion filet mignon was the perfect size and so flavorful. "Chef"/owner should take business and chef classes. After sending out two well done steaks when the order was for a medium(not one bite taken of either steaks) our party of 6 (of which one waited an hour and half to get a properly ordered steak) was told if you want the steak cooked right it will not be comped. We didn't go out to eat for a comped steak. We went out to eat to order good food. The chef never apologized for sending out two overcooked steaks, did not come out to discus ,did not acknowledge the hour and half that went by and simply told the manager to relay that message. One of the worst meals of my life. Location and views from this restaurant are beautiful. The inside decor is sad. Started our meal with the chicken nachos. They were fine. I ordered the ribeye with a baked potato. My husband ordered the Alfredo. We both took one bite of our entrees and decide we needed to leave and eat elsewhere. My steak was cooked unevenly and looked to be cooked from frozen. The meat was poor quality and seasoned horribly. Even my baked potato wasn't good. We politely asked for a check, tipped our waitress, and headed to the taco truck. We highly recommend the taco truck- Tacos Tanacos. read more

While on our honeymoon road trip stop at Cumberland Falls, we were looking for a really nice place for a celebratory meal. We passed this place and saw that the parking lot was full at lunch and dinnertimes, and it smelled good when we drove by too. We asked the front desk at our hotel about it and they told us they'd been there once and really liked it. Apparently this place used to be in the nearby town of Jamestown, but moved over to Somerset. Despite the parking lot being nearly filled to capacity, we were told the wait would be just 10-15 minutes for a table. We perused the menu while we sat in the waiting area. A really nice local told us if we ordered the filet mignon we would love it. The filet happened to be one of the specials that evening as well. We were seated in a gorgeous sunflower yellow dining room and taken care of royally for our entire stay. I tried the special martini of the evening made with house infused pineapple vodka-it was light and delicious without being overly sweet. My husband ordered the bourbon pork chop and I had the filet with scallops special. The salads that came with our meals were large and very fresh with flavorful house made dressings. The bread was fresh from the oven with a lovely brown sugar cinnamon butter-heavenly! I could eat a bunch of those for breakfast. My filet was 7 ounces and done to perfection exactly as I ordered. It was so tender that you could literally cut it with a fork! The 3 large scallops were skewered on a sprig of rosemary and seared just right. The pork chop was so juicy and flavorful that I very nearly regretted ordering the filet. The loaded baked potatoes were great-though with so many choices of sides it was hard to pick just one(next time I will try the mashed sweet potato though). We split dessert and were disappointed that they were out of the creme brulee, which is one of my all time faves. We ordered the bananas Foster and now have a new favorite. The bananas were split and caramelized with not only a generous scoop of vanilla bean ice cream between them, but also a large portion of banana bread pudding with a bourbon sauce too! Quite possibly one of my most favorite dinners out ever! Will definitely go back next time we're in the area. Luckily we have family in the area, so it will be often! read more

I know that Somerset is not known for its cuisine, and Guthrie's reinforces this stereotype. It was terrible. The service was some of the worst I have ever had and the food made me extremely sick. The only thing that this place has going for it is their balcony seating and their view of Lake Cumberland, it is really stunning. Stopped to have dinner here last night. While the wait staff were excellent, my food was cold (had the prime rib) and my waiter was too busy cleaning up (at 8:45) to refill my drink. The butter was melted, the par baked (I can get them from GFS, too) rolls were over salted, and when the waiter brought my prime rib back, you could tell the plate had been microwaved--even the horseradish sauce was hot. Free wifi saves this overpriced meal from a one star in my book. read more

Favorite place in town!!! Whether living here or visiting it is a MUST visit! We have had so many options and all have been more than amazing. This was my second visit to Guthrie's and once again I was completely pleased! First visit I ate at the bar - excellent drinks and attentive service. My sea bass was delicious and the salad dressing was fresh and delicious. This time I had coworkers with me, so we sat at a table. My wife and I had lunch at Guthries. I had several personal referral and chose to eat lunch there because it came highly recommended. We arrived just after the restaurant opened on Friday. I chose the catfish dinner. The French fries were obviously at least a day old. They were very tough and rubbery in texture. One piece of fish was very tasty but the other was quite undercooked. It is almost impossible to undercook fried fish but Guthries accomplished this. My wife had a Tilapia - shrimp special. It had a very sweet pineapple - mango sauce that was so overwhelming that she could not finish the meal. The atmosphere was also very unpleasant mainly due to a very strong odor that smelled of household cleansers. read more

We have been to the river house in about four or five times now. The food is spectacular. I'm not sure who the chef is but they know what they're doing. Steaks are well cooked and well seasoned.
