Just bought a treadmill and elliptical from them and dealt with Daniel who also came to deliver and assemble. He came on time and alone on a Sunday not realizing that there were stairs to navigate. Somehow he managed to do it all ( with a little help ) remaining cheerful throughout. He listened to our needs upfront and recommended the appropriate equipment, deliver, assembled and tested it and showed us how to use it. He also adjusted a bike that we already had. Looks like people either love them or hate them....but here is my story. My 7 year old treatmill died. overheated the smoked the mother board after I replaced a burned out powerswitch myselft and didn't fix the primary issue. I call Gym Doctors after finding them listed in vendor's list of certified repair shops. They were the closest to my house. Read the Yelp reviews and decided to cautiously try them out. 1st contact was by phone. Guy I spoke to took a lot a time talking to me about problem and if it was really worth repairing a 7 year old machine. In the end he said "if you can get it to the shop, we will give an opinion after looking it over". 2nd contact, I put my treadmill in the truck and when to the shop. Met the lady receptionist up front and then brought the mill out back. In 5 minutes they said that the fold up design was really nice and worth keeping. They quoted me about $120 bucks over the parts costs (i looked them up earlier) to replace the worn belt and the burned up control board...I accepted. 3rd Contact. They call me and said the machine was ready but they didn't like how loud the motor was. Told me that they already contacted the manufactuerer and the warrently replacement motor was on the way. Nice! 4th contact. about a week later they called to say all the work was done. No extra charge and the warrently motor replacement. 5th Contact. At the shop. told me to try the mill before leaving. Did. Worked great. Then we broke a piece of the wheel assembly putting the mill back in the truck. I said "don't worry". They said, "no, we will order the part and replace it". 6 th Contact, Called and said part was in. I had forgotten about it. Asked if they could come to the house to install. I said "mail it to me". They insisted on installing. 2 hours later they had the part install in my home. NO extra charge. Really, who does all this? Well maybe Gym Doctors has learned from earlier YELP reviews and feedback. The three people I dealt with were professional and proactive. It is possible that a business grows and Yelp certainly helps get them feedback. I'll use them again when I wear out this treadmill. My sister gave me her old True Fitness treadmill. Something happened when it was moved to my house and it developed a weird noise during treadmill operation. My brother-in-law tried to fix it but was not able to diagnose the problem. I made an appointment with Gym Doctors to take a look at the treadmill. The technician, Arnold, did a fabulous job quickly diagnosing the source of the problem. Somehow the circuit board had moved on its platform and the treadmill belt was hitting it at a certain point in the revolution path. Once he re-seated the circuit board, everything worked fine. He also did the required maintenance and put the treadmill through the appropriate diagnostic tests. The treadmill is now running perfectly and it is a joy to use. I was very happy with their service and I will call on the Gym Doctors again in the future when I have treadmill service requirements. read more

My husband and I bought a new Horizon treadmill and its heart rate monitor was malfunctioning. I contacted the service department for Johnson Health Tech, the parent company, who were very good about sending out new parts right away, and referred me to Gym Doctors in Hayward to install the parts, since they are close by. Gym Doctors got us an appointment within a couple of days of having called to let them know we received the parts. Jason came out, and it was obvious he knew what he was doing, and he even showed me how to lube the treadmill as well as align it. Unfortunately, the control board we got was damaged in shipping. After a replacement control board came damaged the second time, and the two women I was dealing with at Horizon, who were very sympathetic, wanted to keep me happy, they sent out a new complete module which was essentially the entire electronics with the display, and sent it overnight Early AM delivery. I called Gym Doctors again and they again came out within 2 days. This time it was Emil, whom I could also tell was very competent and knowledgable. He replaced the entire top half of the treadmill and explained to me while he did so how the heart rate monitor works and what the causes can be of it not reading correctly. After the new part was in place, it worked like a charm, so the original problem was in the electronics of the treadmill. We were so happy with Gym Doctors service, both on the phone, and in person, that we will purchase all our exercise equipment from their retail store in the future. read more

Offered a discount on a new machine which was of a much inferior quality. Their attitude throughout the process was confrontational and aggressive. No concept of customer service. read more

We've used this company three times now and the experience has been excellent each time. This review is been long over due. I specially wanted to thank Daniel for always going out of his way to accommodate us because we're kinda of high maintenance / last minute / high expectation kinda customer. 1st time: They fixed our stairmaster about 9 years ago. It still works great. 2nd time: We bought a treadmill from them 2 years ago which we're extremely happy with. Daniel gave us a super great deal ( we shopped) and removed our old treadmill at no cost. 3rd time: We called them last month to have our gym moved immediately after our house sold. At first they told us one week, but after we nagged and whined a little, Daniel did his magic and had his crew move our entire gym within two days on a Saturday. I set up a repair for our High School weight room (Benches and cables) with Emil. We spoke a couple times on the phone and I processed the paperwork for his quote. I even sent him a swatch of vinyl for the job. It was going to be about 1,000 bucks total maybe a little more. After everything was supposed to be good to go I emailed and called him several times to get the work done. Never a response. Wasted my time completely. I can't say enough great things about Gym Doctors. In a nut shell, we had an old elliptical machine that started to have problems. I called out the Gym Doctors. They came right out as scheduled, they cleaned up the machine, figured out the problem and had a few possible solutions. In the mean time, they fixed it so we could continue to use it. They came out again, to calibrate the machine, this time he stayed for a very long time, trying to trouble shoot. Gym Doctors did not charge me for this visit. Well, it was finally time to replace our old machine. I spoke to Jeff at Gym Doctors. He recommended a new machine for us based on our usage. Not only did they not charge for shipping, they delivered it, set it up and took the old machine away. AND, he sent me back my original payment for the first service call visit, just because I bought a new machine (very reasonably priced and with great reviews). Wow. Professional, service oriented, best price. From my initial conversation with Tim to working with Emil, these guys are awesome. They deal with many big box gyms but treated me and my spin bike as if we were one of their major customers. I had never worked with them before and thought they were a small shop given the time and attention they provided over the phone. But I actually brought my spin bike there with an aftermarket part and they are very impressive with a nice clean office and warehouse with some great equipment. But more importantly, the service Emil provided with installing the part and tuning and cleaning up my bike was phenomenal! My bike has got to be at least 7 years old and it looks and runs like new! And the price to get the work done! OMG! So fair and reasonable. And Tim one of the owners I think even came out to check on my bike and chatted shop with me for a bit! I own a small fitness studio and will not hesitate to have the Gym Doctors come out and service my equipment as needed because I know that the quality of the work will be premium but the price fair and reasonable! My old StairMaster 4400 PT was acting up (pedals dropping suddenly during workouts) and I was fearing the worst. Then I called the Gym Doctors. They sent Jason to my house and in one hour (for $179) he had my machine running like new. No expensive replacement parts necessary - it just needed some adjusting, cleaning and lubrication. Jason was extremely helpful, courteous, informative and meticulous about cleaning up the small mess he made. And he had a great sense of humor! I can't recommend the Gym Doctors highly enough. I just had the most frustrating phone conversation with the customer service person at Gym Doctors. The service person (who sounded like a very young woman) informed me that her company doesn't service my area. Which is fine. I asked her for a recommendation for another company; she replied that "she wasn't sure." I asked her to name one or more of her competitors, so that I could call them; she replied that "she wasn't sure." I asked her (directly) to name 1 competitor, so that I could call them; she replied that "she wasn't sure" and that "her company doesn't serve my area." How is it possible that "she isn't sure (about anything)?" I can understand the answer "I don't know" if she doesn't know who are her competitors or "I'm not allowed to say" if she can't name her competitors. But "I'm not sure?" What does that even mean? I'm frustrated because I couldn't get a straight answer our of her and her responses made no sense. read more

I have used this company several times for maintenance of our concept2 rower, Pacemaster treadmill, and schwinn spinning bike. From the person on teh phone to teh field tech, they make you feel like you are their only customer for that day. the last visit was scheduled for 2 hours. The tech finished in one hour and only charged for one. Very professional. I would recommend them anytime. My newly purchased elliptical machine had a noise coming from the pedal, I called the manufacture and the manufacture told me to setup an appointment with Gym Doctor's for the repair. When I did this I was told I would have to wait for two weeks for the repair. No big deal I thought, I waited this long I can wait a few weeks more. Two weeks go by and my appointment comes a long on a thursday around 2pm. Earlier that day I left my cell phone number with them to call when they arrive at my home. I didn't get a call until just before 5pm to let me know that they would not be able to make it to my house that the technician was hung up on another job. I called them back 10 minutes later only to find out they were closed and no one was answering the phone. I left them a message asking for them to call me in the morning. I received no return phone call from them for 3 days. Finally I received a phone call and they set me up for the following friday (one week later) and told me that I would be their very first appointment to make sure my elliptical machine got fixed. 10 am roles around that friday morning and no one has shown up. I give the office a call and a women answers, she proceeds to tell me i'm not on the schedule and that it was a computer glitch that must have caused me not to be on the schedule. By this time i'm pretty upset, I took time off work and no one is showing up to my house AGAIN! The lady was very rude when i suggested that I speak with her manager even lying to me that she was the manager even though she previously stated she would talk to her "manager" about the computer glitch. Finally she set me up that same day between 2 and 3pm. Not more than 10 minutes later the tech (Dan) that was going to come out to my home calls me and says that she screwed up and the time she gave me was too late for him could he come earlier?? By this time i'm very frustrated and just agreed with the earlier time. All in all he did show up and fix my elliptical. I suggest that if anyone wants to use these people that you get confirmation the night before of your appointment and you make sure you are the very first appointment of the day. Also be prepared to stay home all day waiting for them. read more

Just a cautionary note. They are quite expensive. In my case it cost 179 for just tightening some bolts and lubrication. I had noise from the machine when I exercised. The technician came and tightened some bolts and nuts. The frame noise is still there. I was worried that the noise was due to ball bearings etc. The technician was good. He explained that the reason for the problem was base noise and this is expected. The only issue I had was it costed 179 for this basic service. I would think if they reduce it they will have more calls. read more

After 9 "grueling" years my treadmill walking belt wore out. We ordered a new one and contracted with Gym Doctors to come out and install it. Great job! I called gymdoctors because I needed some maintenance on my home elliptical. I have a used precor club elliptical that I've had for over 5 years. The person arrived on time, performed a good cleaning and adjusting, and advised me of the root cause of a noise/movement issue. They ordered the replacement part for me and came and replaced it. They were on time, performed the work quickly, and did not try to sell me things I didn't need. I give them 4 stars rather than 5 because the prices are a bit high for my area. I needed to disassemble a large NordicTrak treadmill and have it reassembled in a different room. The appt. was a week out which is fine and the service guy was nice and efficient. Did a great job. My only critique is the $179 price tag which I will have to pay again when I want to move. Maybe offer a multiple use discount? I had Gym Doctors come to my house to disassemble, move upstairs, and re-assemble a Precor Elliptical. I recently moved, and my professional movers wouldn't even try to get it up the stairs. The Gym Doctors tech arrived on time, did an assessment of the equipment, and then set about disassembling it. We moved the parts upstairs, and then he reassembled the unit. A GREAT job. Not only is it reassembled, but it is working better than it ever had before. He must have made adjustments and tightened all bolts. These guys promote a very professional image online, but from my experience they are anything but that! I called in to have my schwinn airdyne bike repaired. The first technician came out and looked confused, like he had never worked on any sort of fitness bike before. He had to call in for instructions more than once and wasnt able to fix the machine. They decided to send out another technician 2 weeks later to diagnose the problem again. For this i should NOT have been charged, but they insisted that this is the way they have always done business. Well OK, I guess I'm already this far along into the process, so lets get the parts ordered and get my bike fixed already. I waited another 2-3 weeks, and still no call. I called in and spoke to Imeel(sp?) and he said the parts were on back order so he would try a different source to order the parts. Another week goes by and I finally get a call.. Your parts are in so they scheduled a time for a different technician to come out to install the parts. When the tech got here, he was not careful with the bike at all, he ended up breaking two plastic covers on the bike and leaving a large black stain on my white carpets beneath the workspace. After about an hour and a half, I tell him that I need to leave to a doctors appointment. He then explains to me that they ordered the wrong parts for the bike. Great! Now not only is my bike broken more than it was before he arrived, but my carpets are stained! I sure hope they don't ask me for my credit card number again. Good Grief!! I finally got some sense and stopped returning their phone calls and went with another service provider. Fix Fitness came out from Livermore with the correct part and fixed my Airdyne bike all in one trip. I was so pleased with their prompt repair, I ended up having them assemble our new treadmill as well. In the end I have nothing but regrets for calling the Gym Doc. They charged me nearly the same amount of money to break my bike, put a stain on my white carpet in two months time than I paid from the other company to get two jobs done Correctly in about an hour and a half. And may I add that I didn't need to ask them to lay down a drop cloth and remove their boots either! read more

Absolutely horrendous. Tech was great! Spent about :15 paid in cash to save 5$. Said we'd get receipt next day. Over a week later after many calls and then speak to COO Emile and being treated horribly received an email receipt. Ordered part thru Tim (very nice) 2.5 weeks later I email Tim. Nothing. No response. About 5 phone calls not returned. Very nice woman I reach at some point says it was ordered. (This is now 3 weeks into) Nothing for another week. I call and reach Emile again he confirms part never ordered. Will order at once and call right back with info when to Sched. No call. I call again next day. He says "oh yes I'll call now again and get tracking # and get right back to you" nothing. 4 hours later I call and speak to a very nice woman in finance I think -she confirms and gets tracking but now can't schedule for ANOTHER 2 weeks. "soonest they have" I would not ever use this company again. No mention of the issues and all the lack of communication or rudeness of COO. I asked to speak to CEO Daniel but dealt with Melissa instead. Hopefully all will be ok. Daniel has on website "we treat you how I'd like to be treated. ". Really? read more
