Gyōza bar is pretty fascinating, and the ambience feels like you just walked into a monochromatic version of a Wong Kar Wai film except you're bathed in warm, orange colored lantern lights. It is intimate but casual, a cozy dive bar that doesn't have edgy look of one, but instead serve Japanese street food. It doesn't seat too many people, but for a Wednesday dinner my friend and I found seats right away. Be sure to get the Nigori Sake and Asahi draft beer if you're in that mood, they're quite a delicious pairing. As for the food, my friend loves her combo of Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna and Salmon Sashimi, and especially raved about the crispy rice. Our appetizer was Vegan Gyōza (other option was Pork) and it is pretty good and savory. I do want more kick from the Chili oil and yuzu vinegar since I felt they don't really add much to the gyōza. My dish was the Tsukemen Dipping Noodle, and while it's good, it doesn't quite reach my favorite dipping noodles at Tsujita. The broth is pretty good without calling attention that it's a fish broth (I don't like seafood), but I do find that other than the cilantro there's not much nuance or layers in the broth overall. Nor is there that kick with the flavor. But the noodles. Are nice and thick, absorbing the broth with ease. I'd give it a 7.5 out of 10 myself for being good but not quite impressive. I do want to come back, however, since the rest of their menu looks enticing and the service was super attentive and friendly!

It was a hole in the wall place. Super dark and they have 12 seats for the counter and a standing bar. Their gyoza was fairly priced and delicious. They played old samurai movies in the background while playing loud music. A surprisingly trendy place meeting Japanese comfort food. Their ramen were also amazing.

Found this place on accident and what a gem did I stumble into. Gyoza bar was incredible from start to finish. Come here with one other person or yourself to get yourself a seat faster there is only about 10-15 seats in the whole place; I got lucky coming in at 10 with no wait. The service was attentive and friendly, the staff knew lots about the menu and made recommendations. I didn't want to eat too much when I went but I will definitely be back with an appetite the whole menu sounds delicious. The ambiance was perfect for me darkly lit with red tint the room. Either very romantic or dramatic whichever you're going for. I would definitely recommend to a friend and will for sure be back myself.

The best spot for fresh, crispy, and tasty gyoza. Everything on the menu is great. We ordered a variety of different things to share. The obvious, most popular dish is their gyoza (hence the name). Our dining experience was great. The only downfall is their seating. Around 12-14 seats max, in the entire restaurant. Nonetheless, our server was really nice and was very hospitable.

Came to Gyoza Bar in Echo Park for an early dinner. It's a cozy little bar with intimate interiors. There are only few seatings which you can watch the bartender work while you eat. We got the pork gyoza & vegan gyoza - both weren't crispy when it came out but so juicy inside. Didn't expect the vegan one to have too much flavor. The salmon sashimi was fresh & buttery which we enjoyed eating the most. The crispy rice w/ spicy tuna was hands down my favorite! We weren't a fan of the bean sprouts w/ spicy pork. The tonkotsu ramen was rich & comforting, perfect to end the night with. Since I don't drink alcohol, I got their famous cucumber mint yuzunade minus the alcohol. It was so refreshing!! The bartender was really kind & welcoming, which was my favorite part of the whole experience. They offer a take-out gyoza rice plate which is super convenient if you don't want to dine in. Overall, amazing food, chill atmosphere & great service. Tasty haul: - Pork gyoza - Vegan gyoza - Salmon sashimi - Crispy Rice w/ Spicy Tuna - Bean sprouts w/ spicy pork - Tonkotsu ramen - Cucumber mint yuzunade

I loved the vibes here. It's bar-style seating only with about 12 seats in total so it's very intimate. We had a reservation so we were seated immediately but there's a Yelp waitlist you can join or you can order food to-go. I am shocked to inform you that I may have liked the vegan gyoza more than the pork gyoza. I had low expectations coming in about the gyoza in general, because how could it be much better than the other Japanese restaurants? I loved that the skin on both of them stayed crispy and that the filling packed a flavor punch. I didn't even need to dip either of them in the sauce because it was already juicy and flavorful. The pork one had a rich umami taste and the vegan gyoza had a teriyaki glaze that complemented the soy meat. For appetizers, we ordered the crispy rice with spicy tuna and bean sprouts with spicy pork. The latter dish reminded me of a Chinese dish since it had a mala spice, which was unexpected but pleasantly welcomed. The crispy rice had a great ratio: a thin, very crispy layer of rice with a mound of tuna. I'm not a big fan of drinks but I was a huge fan of the cucumber mint yuzunade...probably because it hardly tasted of alcohol. However, I could taste the shochu more in the pom-garita, so that one might be a fun choie if that's more your style. The worker was also very kind and quick at clearing plates and refilling our water. We found street parking in the neighborhood, but if you're lucky, you might find some on the same street.

Don't come here; I want this place to always have a spot for me when I visit!! Absolutely amazing Ramen bar! From waking in to leaving, staff and cook were attentive and welcoming to their place. Bar style ordering, check the photos; top tier broth for the ramen. Salmon sashimi was absolutely amazing, sauce complimented the fish without overpowering it. Yes, go eat here. You won't be disappointed

almost don't want to post this review so i can keep this place a secret, but they deserve the hype. so good! the menu is tiny, for good reason, since their focus seems to be on creating this underground japanese vibe where you come for drinks first, and the drinks are amazing. the lighting is lovely and the service has also been great. one of my go to spots in the city.

I'll be honest, I didn't really have high expectations for this spot but I'm still thinking about it hours later. The restaurant is super small but the vibes were immaculate. I forgot to ask his name but whoever was helping my large group of 7, that basically took over half the restaurant, was the best!! 3 of us ordered the 20 pork gyozas to share and I got the regular size pork rice bowl. The gyozas were delicious, juicy, and filling. The pork rice bowl was also super good! Absolutely no complaints and no notes. My group was so happy we chose this spot to eat and will most definitely be back!

The food is amazing! I've been here twice now and it never disappoints. Service is great and fast. The location is super cute and has very nice ambient lighting.

This was easily the worst pork gyoza I've ever had, which is a shame coming from a place with Gyoza in their name. I can't speak to ambiance because I picked up this order to go. Staff was really nice though and I picked up my order just as it was coming off the line. It comes with three sauces: soy sauce, chili oil, and what seemed like a gochujang sauce. I found these didn't really help the flavor. I gave my portion to my boyfriend who will typically eat anything, but he threw away the last one. It had the same taste as the smell of a medicinal Chinese herb shop. It was overwhelming.

Gyoza Bar is the kind of spot you go to when you're craving bold flavors, late-night energy, and food that hits hard in the best way. The atmosphere is dark, moody, and intimate--perfect for sharing plates and taking your time. The gyoza are the clear star: crispy bottoms, juicy fillings, and packed with flavor. Whether you go classic or try one of their more adventurous variations, each bite delivers that perfect crunch-to-tender ratio. Beyond the gyoza, the small plates are just as impressive. Everything feels thoughtfully seasoned, rich without being heavy, and clearly made to pair well with drinks. The sauces add an extra layer of depth, and you'll want to try more than one just to switch things up. Service is friendly and efficient, even when it's busy, and the overall vibe makes it a great spot for a date, a night out with friends, or a casual food crawl. If you're a fan of dumplings and Japanese comfort food with a modern edge, Gyoza Bar is absolutely worth a visit--and probably a repeat one.

A Long-Awaited Visit to Izakaya Go, Now in LA…read more After years of making the trip to Izakaya Go's original Las Vegas location, I finally got to experience the new LA outpost -- and it did not disappoint. Go-san had mentioned the LA expansion to me a while back, so this visit felt like it had been a long time coming. From the moment I walked in, the place delivered exactly what I'd hoped for. The ambience captures that same warm, lively izakaya energy I fell in love with in Vegas -- the kind of space that makes you want to settle in for a few hours with good food and good company. Service was attentive and gracious, just as I remembered. The food, of course, was the highlight. While the LA menu has some differences from the original -- a few new dishes here, a couple of swaps there -- the quality and care behind every plate stayed consistent. Nothing felt like a watered-down version of the original; if anything, it felt like its own confident expression of the Izakaya Go experience. Overall, this visit reaffirmed why I keep coming back. If you're in LA and craving an authentic izakaya night, Izakaya Go deserves a spot on your list. Highly recommend.

Recently, it came back to mind, so I looked it up and found out that the Little Tokyo location had permanently closed. After doing a little more research, I discovered that they had relocated to DTLA. I had been craving a Hamburg steak lately, which was one of the main reasons I decided to visit. My mom ordered the Sukiyaki, and I ordered the Hamburg steak. We shared both dishes, and unfortunately, the Sukiyaki was unbelievably salty. It tasted as if someone had poured an entire bottle of soy sauce into it. Even when eaten together with the rice that came with it, it was still overwhelmingly salty. The beef was also very tough, which made the dish even more disappointing. As for the Hamburg steak, the portion size was extremely small. On the positive side, it came with a generous serving of rice, a salad, and miso soup. The Hamburg steak itself tasted good, but it was severely overcooked and heavily charred, which was a huge disappointment. Until recently, I wasn't particularly focused on my health, but both of my parents have been dealing with health issues, and seeing that has made me much more health-conscious. I've been trying to avoid burnt foods and charred meats whenever possible. I've also cut out ham, sausages, sugary juices, and sodas. Because of that, I was especially disappointed to see my Hamburg steak burned so badly that parts of it were almost black. The restroom required walking down a very long flight of stairs. While it was spacious and clean, it had a somewhat eerie atmosphere, probably because it was located in the basement. There were only stairs and no obvious alternative access, which made me wonder how customers with disabilities would be able to reach the restroom. The service was very friendly and welcoming. However, between the disappointing food, the inconvenient parking situation (street parking only--fortunately, thanks to my usual incredible parking luck, I managed to find the one available parking space), and the difficulty of accessing the restroom, I don't think I'll be returning. Overall, I was especially disappointed by the food, and for that reason, I probably won't be visiting again. But, I gave the tip 20%. Cuz, the service was friendly.

It was as good as I remembered, and probably even better. I can't imagine letting another eight and a half years pass without going back. The only negative is that parking is either difficult or $15, which feels bad in a pretty quiet residential area. Better to take a car in any case, so you can enjoy the extensive selection of sakes. We shared a full-sized bottle, I forget which but I think it was a junmai daiginjo, and it was lovely. Tsubaki is such a nice, welcoming little izakaya. Service is great, the atmosphere warm and easy. You just want to sit back and drink at a leisurely pace. The food is excellent, with a robust menu of creative Japanese food. We shared everything, starting with a stellar kanpachi crudo with ume ponzu, shiso, sweet onion and habanero pickles, and furikake. My favorite dish of the night was the tsukune katsu. I love tsukune, the tare-glazed chicken meatballs you'll find in any yakitori place. This was my first time having them in katsu form, panko-fried and served over cabbage with Kewpie mayo and tonkatsu sauce. The chawanmushi was delicious, silky steamed egg custard topped with Dungeness crab, truffle salt, and mitsuba. Likewise the kinoko tempura, an array of maitake, shiitake, and enoki mushrooms fried light and crispy, with yuzu shichimi and tentsuyu for dipping. We got a skewer of bonchiri from the yakitori menu, delightfully chewy bites of charcoal-grilled jidori chicken tail. Finally, a plate of yakisoba, pan-fried noodles with house-cured Peads & Barnetts char siu, pickled green garlic, and cracklin. We got the hojicha parfait, and it was more or less my ideal dessert. Roasted green tea soft serve with sesame black sugar burnt miso and candied walnuts with cornflake dust. Cold, light, sweet. I could eat a whole one by myself pretty much any time. After nine years in business, Tsubaki feels like an Echo Park institution, and the kitchen is as strong as ever. This was a wonderful dinner, one I hope to repeat soon, with more sake, more yakitori, and more hojicha parfait.

Anyway, we had the fried tempura, garlic fried rice, short ribs, and chicken oysters. Everything was delicious and I would get these dishes again. But my standouts were the short ribs, they were tender and the marinade was light and fresh. The fried tempura was another standout for me because the sauce paired so well with the lightly friend asparagus. And I'm going to to say the chicken oysters- I think they were grilled to perfection with a tiny bit of wasabi. It's so hard to pick, everything tasted amazing and you can tell everything is thoughtfully prepared and well crafted with a beautiful presentation. Normally, I don't like asparagus, and I also don't like it when it's wrapped with bacon, but when it's wrapped with pork belly, it takes this dish to the next level. They're open late, making it a great option for satisfying those evening cravings. The menu is incredibly extensive, featuring just about every Japanese comfort dish you can think of. From omurice and ramen to curry katsu and much more. With so many choices, sometimes it can be a little overwhelming to decide what to order. This time, I kept it simple and went with the shrimp omelet over pork fried rice topped with gravy. It was comforting, satisfying, and exactly what I was in the mood for. Our friends ordered ramen and an oyakodon, and everyone seemed happy with their meals. Kouraku also serves alcohol, making it an easy spot for a casual dinner with friends. The service was friendly, and the food definitely hit the spot. They accept credit cards, and I even spotted a robot helping deliver some of the dishes.

It had a deep and robust flavor. I don't think I've had that flavor of curry anywhere else but it was deeply heartwarming and satisfying. I really did enjoy this dish a lot. However, the pork cutlet isn't wasn't the best cutlet I've had. I would put it in the middle range of tonkatsus out there. While good, it didn't have the crisp flakiness you'd find in a specialty restaurant that specializes in just tonkatsu. However, it is still good. Next up was the omelette with gravy with fried rice that had both shrimp and pork. I feel the egg of the omelette was well made. It had that texture and consistency you would really want from an omelette of that nature. The pork and shrimp fried rice tasted a little light in the seasoning and flavor, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The gravy was also lighter than a heavy gravy as well. When the food came out, I thought the meal would be deeply heavy due to the quantity and the gravy, but it still felt a bit light and manageable, which was kind of outside of my expectations, so that was pretty interesting. I do like the chicken soup this comes with. It has a nice flavorful broth where you could tell it was made well too. The service here is pretty good and attentive. The ambiance is nice but pretty busy. Also, if you come on the weekend, expect to wait a bit because a lot of people do want to eat here and the line can become a bit backed up.
