Golden Spicy Tuna Roll: as tasty as it is pretty.
    Gregory M.

Well, I have to say the sushi here was quite good. I had been earlier for their soft opening and enjoyed myself. But, since then I think the food has only gotten better. The menu was very different than when I was there last. It looked like they were clearly paying attention to what their clientele where enjoying most and focus sing on those dishes. I had the sashimi salad first...it's basically a poke salad that was really delicious and tasty in a delightfully healthy way. Unlike many poke salads , the focus was on fresh fish and fresh green (lost of arugula...yum) rather than heavy dressing like tons of spicy mayo. Very nice. The second course was a Golden Spicy Tuna Roll. I don't normally take food photos, but this one deserved it. While definitely not as health as the sashimi salad (being deep-fried and all), it was delicious: crunchy and flavorful. It was actually the one dish that my dining partner both ordered because we knew we didn't want to share. The decor remains minimalist, with exposed brick. cement and wood work. And the wait staff was very pleasant. The only thing I would ding them on is that it took a bit of time to flag down a waiter for our check. But it was was a Friday evening and I'm not a monster. Will definitely return in the future.

Serrano tuna was good, the yuki was more sour than I expected but I can see folks liking it. The spicy tuna was as expected, the Cali roll was actually more avocado than imitation crab so it was fairly creamy. The post meal oranges was a nice touch! Service was very attentive, shout out to Chris C! Went here because it is on inkind and I had a deal. Prices are typical of a sushi spot but I think quality is okay. I usually eat sushi at little Tokyo so not sure how good it is relative to the area. Ambiance is chill, very empty for a weeknight although I went around 8 pm for dinner.

Very nice spot! Good music, good ambiance, friendly staff and fresh sushi! It has the perfect location. You will have to drive around to find parking but it's well worth it. It's pretty spacious but a few of the tables were reserved, so it might be worth it to make a reservation if possible. I happened to get lucky and come on an early Saturday evening when it was not very many people. The staff welcomed everyone in, even as the place gradually increased in patrons as the evening progressed. The music was a nice mix of pop, rock, rap from 90s to today's hits. It was not too loud so you can have a nice conversation without yelling. The sushi was fresh. I tried a variety and cannot pick a favorite. I'd like to try more but my go to is the salmon. The New Zealand Salmon Roll is always a hit. Great spot!

This place is a hidden gem. The sushi was fresh, rolls were unique, the service was fantastic, and place was cute and cozy. Went there before a concert at the Greek and it was perfect. Chia recommended the best rolls, and all of them were hits. Crispy rice spicy tuna was fantastic

Lovely space with a surprisingly fun happy hour menu. The service was excellent, and I'm honestly surprised it wasn't busier. We enjoyed sitting outside, and street parking was easy to find.

    Salmon sashimi, perfection here!

I've been here a few times since they've opened and love it. It's still in its soft opening phase, but this past week they finally got beer and sake. Woo hoo! Let's get to the food though: Salmon Sashimi - 5 stars. The fish quality is excellent and the presentation was beautiful as well. Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice - 5 Stars. The rice is perfectly crisped and the tuna was delicious, all topped with an avocado mousse. Baked Crab & Avocado Roll - 5 Stars. The sushi chef made this for me and it should really be on the menu cause it was excellent! Crunch Roll - 4 1/2 Stars. Quite filling, this was a fun tempura roll that was complex with a great texture to it. The menu is inventive with tons of options, while still having all your classic items, too. The service is always excellent whether you're at the sushi bar or a table, and the ambiance is minimal and chic. Definitely adding this to my rotation of favorite sushi spots in the neighborhood.

We stumbled across this place while walking around Los Feliz and it was a great hidden gem! Really attentive staff with great recommendations. They also had gluten free options for our friend with allergy restrictions. The location is spacious with plenty of seating indoor and outdoor. They even gave us a little orange dessert to try on our way out. Add this to your list of lowkey sushi spots!

We were back for our second visit! Chris provided us amazing service, the staff were friendly, food was yummy, and the ambiance was great per usual! The softshell crab was very creamy and delicious, and my personal favorite was the pucker face roll! We also tried their new wagyu A5 surf and turf roll based on Chris's recommendation, and that was quite tasty!

Today was my first time at Roji and it probably won't be the last. Great vibe, great service! Ordered langostino dynamite and baked salmon. Kinda pricey but also worth it. They do not have hot sake yet or white wine. But it's perfect for lunch.

First off, the service was phenomenal. We came in a little close to closing time and the host/server had no problem helping us out. We came from a work event that served food for ants, so we were in need of delicious food! So glad we stopped here because the food was not only presentable but sooo good! I love the ambiance and loved the outdoor seating. Super comfy and just overall a great experience.

Absolutely STELLAR! Stopped in at midnight for late (very late!) dinner after taking in a movie. Food was amazing - pure and simple. Service was outstanding. Big shout out to waiter Chris for having a great attitude with such late night diners. (They're open til 1am which is a massive selling point in itself!) Even the music was excellent. Very - VERY highly recommend this establishment.

And service was also not great - the server brought out a drink that we didn't order by mistake, told us we could have it on the house, but ended up charging us for it anyway. Had already left when we noticed it. Also told us cake fee was $10, but ended up charging us $20. Food-wise, very hit or miss. The unadon, hamburger steak, and curry udon were all really good, but the yakitori skewers tended to be disappointing. The Tsukune was dry, the Negima was quite bland. The Miso Black Cod was also quite overdone, became quite rubbery when served and also was cold. Overall, I would not come back again, or recommend it. Given the price point, I expected that the food and service left much to be desired.

The menu now leans much more toward fine dining, and the prices definitely reflect that. As someone who's more of a casual diner and really enjoyed the previous menu, this new direction just wasn't for me. The staff were very kind and took the time to explain all the changes, which I appreciated. However, we ordered about six dishes and were surprised at how small the portions were. On top of that, most of the items were unfortunately pretty bland. Sadly, I won't be returning, and I really miss the old menu.

It was as good as I remembered, and probably even better. I can't imagine letting another eight and a half years pass without going back. The only negative is that parking is either difficult or $15, which feels bad in a pretty quiet residential area. Better to take a car in any case, so you can enjoy the extensive selection of sakes. We shared a full-sized bottle, I forget which but I think it was a junmai daiginjo, and it was lovely. Tsubaki is such a nice, welcoming little izakaya. Service is great, the atmosphere warm and easy. You just want to sit back and drink at a leisurely pace. The food is excellent, with a robust menu of creative Japanese food. We shared everything, starting with a stellar kanpachi crudo with ume ponzu, shiso, sweet onion and habanero pickles, and furikake. My favorite dish of the night was the tsukune katsu. I love tsukune, the tare-glazed chicken meatballs you'll find in any yakitori place. This was my first time having them in katsu form, panko-fried and served over cabbage with Kewpie mayo and tonkatsu sauce. The chawanmushi was delicious, silky steamed egg custard topped with Dungeness crab, truffle salt, and mitsuba. Likewise the kinoko tempura, an array of maitake, shiitake, and enoki mushrooms fried light and crispy, with yuzu shichimi and tentsuyu for dipping. We got a skewer of bonchiri from the yakitori menu, delightfully chewy bites of charcoal-grilled jidori chicken tail. Finally, a plate of yakisoba, pan-fried noodles with house-cured Peads & Barnetts char siu, pickled green garlic, and cracklin. We got the hojicha parfait, and it was more or less my ideal dessert. Roasted green tea soft serve with sesame black sugar burnt miso and candied walnuts with cornflake dust. Cold, light, sweet. I could eat a whole one by myself pretty much any time. After nine years in business, Tsubaki feels like an Echo Park institution, and the kitchen is as strong as ever. This was a wonderful dinner, one I hope to repeat soon, with more sake, more yakitori, and more hojicha parfait.
