    Fresh Water Eel Sushi

4.8 stars huh? Lets see. The interior is clean but lack of interior design elements - like wall are plain white. Miso soup 3/5 - not a rich flavor, average. Crispy gyoza 3/5 - good presentation, i didnt feel any meat inside a meat paste rather, and the sauce was oily and pretty spicy. Not the best. Just ok Baked salmon roll 3/5 - again weird tasteless balsamic vinegar type of sauce, average rice, good salmon, good presentation Eel sushi 4/5 - good big crispy eel on a mediocre rice Wasabi was not spicy at all, sauce containers were too big. Everything needs polishing here and there The service was good and the food was served quick. Food is 3/5. One and done to me

Mine and my kids favorite place for Ramen and sushi in our neighborhood. The Ramen is so delicious. The sushi is always fresh, and the staff already knows us very welcoming.

Came here with my friends we got ramen and sushi. If you check in with yelp you can get free gyozas! Just remind them to take it off your bill. The ramen had a good kick to it and overall was good.

Came here for happy hour on a Thursday. There was plenty of lot parking and seating at 6 pm. I ordered the spicy tuna dip with wonton chips ($9), shrimp kushi katsu ($8), takoyaki ($6), and crispy gyoza dumplings ($6) from their all-day HH menu. Because I spent over $20 and posted a photo to my Instagram, the gyoza were free! The staff were kind, and the food was delicious. I would say the tuna dip and takoyaki were the best value items, though I also really enjoyed the shrimp. The gyoza were great too, but I felt the other items were more unique!

The food was tooooo die for ! We had the Veggie Ramen which is made it with Veggie broth, this is a big deal for us. We also had The mixed Tempura and the Super Veggie Roll! I literally did a seat dance when I tried all of the food. The Tempura had a fried apple which was so unique and super yummy. All of the dishes we had were amazing. Customer service was great!! The restaurant was comfortable! We will definitely be back!

Service was fast and friendly! Ramen tastes better than expected and offered a lot of modifications. AND there's a parking lot which is precious in this area. Free Gyoza for checking in so be sure to do that. Note it's only one per table... so split up and pretend u don't know each other LMAO Overall enjoyed the visit but it's not a place I need to go outta my way for.

Always excited to enjoy a meal here!

Wow! I was in the area after an event I attended & wanted to quickly find a good sushi place to have dinner with my friend. I am so glad we found this place. It's located in a small plaza next to other restaurants so parking can be limited but there's also street parking available. We arrived a little after 7pm on a Saturday night and were seated promptly. The ambiance was casual and not overly loud. They had a couple large TVs showing sports. It was a decent sized restaurant with plenty of seating for couples or small groups. The menu had plenty to choose from including sushi rolls, sashimi, teriyaki plates, ramen & udon. Their appetizer menu was stacked so even if you wanted to come for light bites, they have a good selection. To drink, we chose to try the Homare Strawberry Nigori Sake which was unfiltered so shaking well is recommended. It tasted like a strawberry smoothie. Delicious & it was served to the table in a cute clear ice bucket. For our starters, we couldn't decide so we chose the Albacore Crispy Onion Carpaccio & let me tell you, that ponzu sauce it sits in was amazing. We used it to dip everything in. We also got the fried squid legs which were perfectly cooked. The coating was crispy & the squid was not chewy. They also had happy hour deals all day everyday where you can get a cold Asahi Draft beer for $3.95. They also offered their crispy gyoza dumpling for a Yelp check in or by tagging them in a post on IG or Google. The gyoza dumplings were perfectly crispy with a nice, umami filling. The sauce it came with wasn't my favorite so that ponzu sauce from the carpaccio came in clutch. For our sushi I ordered the red dragon roll which was the spicy version of a dragon roll which had a nice spice to it. So if you like dragon rolls and spice, this would be the perfect roll for you. My friend ordered the rainbow roll & all the fish was fresh. Overall, an excellent restaurant. Highly recommend this place if you're in the area. I can't wait to come back and try more of their food.

Had been in the mood for ramen for some time... I mean, I can always go for some ramen, but it had been longer than I wanted, and Tora Japanese Kitchen was a new spot in Echo Park I came across, and they have ramen, so we hopped in the car and headed over the soothe my cravings. We had a reservation, so we were seated right away, though there were other tables available. Still busy-ish. After a brief glance at the menu, we were ready to order. We started with the yuzu salmon carpaccio and the avocado on crispy rice. The salmon carpaccio tasted nice and fresh, not overpowered by that inherent salmon flavor, but had a nice blend of the yuzu with the salmon. Just a really good, fresh bite. The avocado on crispy rice was great as well. The crispy rice was perfectly crisp on the outside, soft and warm on the inside, with a garlic soy sauce on the outside, not too much but just the right amount to give a little extra flavor. And the avocado gave that soft creaminess to contrast against the crispy outside of the rice. Another great bite. For entrees, we tried a couple different ramen. We did a mayu tonkatsu ramen and the miso butter ramen extra spicy. The mayu tonkatsu has house made garlic oil inside, giving it a little extra flavor, with a nice blend of creamy and thin broth. It comes with pork chashu as the protein. The miso butter broth is even thicker but with good flavor. And the hottest spice level really wasn't that spicy (in my opinion) but had really nice flavor. This also comes with pork chashu as the protein along with corn, giving it a little extra sweetness. Overall, a nice addition to the ramen scene in Los Angeles, and should take over as Echo Parks go to for ramen. Next time I'll have to try the sushi but, for now, definitely a great place for a bowl of ramen.

I ordered their signature Daikoku Ramen which was very flavorful and filling, just wish there had been more meat! The chashu was disappointing: lean and chewy--more like steak found in pho than the tender pork I expected. The wait for a table was long in the hot sun during lunch. And it's still an inconvenient location to get to in terms of parking--little Tokyo is as busy as ever. We had to share a table with some other, really loud patrons. The air conditioning was broken. I got the fried rice, previously one of my favorite side dishes here, but the Yakimeshi rice was too dry and disappointing. I added garlic and soft boiled egg to my ramen. The garlic flakes were too big/strong and overpowered everything. The egg was good. Since the noodles and broth are the most important parts and were both decent, I'd keep this place at around four stars. But there are a lot of other ramen places to try in the area. Original from years ago: Overtook Daikokuya as my favorite ramen place. I love so much about the place except the wait. And the parking, which doesn't validate as long as it used to. But really, the wait is really terrible. I would eat here more often if the wait weren't such an issue.

Beef was tender and moist and loved the caramelized onion too. Rice was delicious too, not dry nor mushy. Served with pickled red ginger. A very satisfying bowl. Sat at the bar, so watched them make udon from scratch, which was nice. WAIT LIST There was a line when I got there, just as it opened. It wasn't long, but everyone wrote their name down on a wait list. There's a sheet of paper placed on the table outside. Please write your name down ASAP, as that will help in making sure that you will grab a seat. Also, the lines are disorganized too, so it's best to write down your name, so no one cuts in front of you. It is a small restaurant. Limited seats. CUSTOMER SERVICE It was okay. Everyone got in the restaurant in the order they came in. Service was quick and there were no delays in taking orders. The server came by quickly and dropped off the check as she saw that I was nearly finished with my meal. PARKING Parked at Joe's Autoparks. It was $15! I did not know until after I paid the ticket. Very difficult to find parking in this area, so not many options unless you want to walk really far, back to your car in 90 degree heat. There was another parking garage next to Joe's, but the price was the same! Would I come back again? Not sure. Given that the udon wasn't what I expected, it may be my last time here. Also, parking sucks.

That's the mood that pulled me into Maruya in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles. I ordered the chashu tonkotsu, the classic go-to when you want to judge a ramen shop by its bones. And the verdict? It was... fine. Not bad, not memorable -- just okay. The kind of bowl that doesn't offend you but doesn't linger in your memory either. No standout richness in the broth, no chashu slice that made me pause mid-bite. Just noodles, doing their job. This is actually the second ramen spot I've tried in Little Tokyo, and I'll admit -- I'm starting to feel a little underwhelmed by the neighborhood's ramen scene so far. For a pocket of the city with so much culinary history packed into a few blocks, I expected to be a bit more wowed by now. Two tries in, and I'm still searching for that bowl that stops me in my tracks. What did stand out, though, was the service. The staff at Maruya were genuinely warm and helpful -- attentive without hovering, quick to check in, the kind of hospitality that makes you want to root for the place even when the food doesn't quite deliver. It's the kind of detail that softens an otherwise middling meal. So, Little Tokyo ramen crawl: two down, verdict still out. The people have been great. The noodles? I'm still waiting to be impressed. On to the next bowl.

I actually became aware of the existence of this restaurant *because* they had a happy hour sign out in front, advertising, among other things, $4 salmon poke "tacos" (which was definitely actually a tostada, but still), and $3 nigori sake to go with it, which sounded pretty bomb - when I passed by the sign on my way to an event at Death & Co nearby, I took note of it but wasn't interested in food. However, when I left that event, an event I thought was going to provide a lot more food than it actually did, I absolutely *was* interested in food, and remembered that the sign advertised not only a traditional happy hour (open until 6 weekdays, 2:30-5:30 Saturday/Sunday), but also the same prices during a reverse happy hour (8 to close weekdays, 9 to close on the weekend). Given it was, at that moment, just after 8 on a Wednesday, I knew exactly where I was going to get the second half of my dinner from. Funny enough, I will say, the salmon poke that drew me in, was just... good. Don't get me wrong, if I were offered them for free, I'd eat at *least* a dozen. They were quite tasty - also like 2 bites worth of food (so eating a dozen of them would not be remotely difficult to do.) Salmon poke is wonderful, but if I wanted poke, I'd go find a poke place - even $4 felt a bit pricey for the size (they're $6 when it isn't happy hour), so I'm glad I decided to also try their karaage. Their karaage is BOMB - some of the best I've had, honestly. $7 for a 4-piece order of their karaage, by contrast, feels like a very reasonable price, and $5 (during happy hour) an absolute steal. Great karaage, great sauce, super fulfilling. The happy hour on karaage would be enough of a draw by itself - but separate from that, so would the $3 happy hour on sake, including both a regular house cold sake and a nigori. As you can see from the picture, they also intentionally overpour their sake, which is not only a very pretty presentation, but also an impressive amount of sake for $3 (heck, for DTLA, a pretty impressive amount of sake even at their normal $5 price). They also have $6 happy hour shochu/sake/juice cocktails that looked pretty good, though I didn't try one. Service was great, too - sometimes you can tell a restaurant is less excited to serve someone who clearly just came in for a drink and a snack, but that was not my experience here. Verdict is, I definitely want to come back and try their ramen sometime, but I would definitely make sure to do it either before or after their prime dinner hour, to take advantage of happy hour pricing. (And I would definitely get more of that karaage as a side. I will probably also make a point to do so as a snack, subsequent to any future events I go to in the area that end around 8 on a weekday, as well, for as long as that happy hour remains such a draw, price-wise.)

Food (3/5): Pretty ok ramen! You come to Tsujita Artisan Noodle in Arts District for the Tsukemen…read more Their tsukemen is creamy with deep umami flavor. Their noodles have a bounciness and chewiness that hold the broth you dip your noodles in. I do wish the broth was hotter because the noodles are traditionally served cold. I've come here for their Naruto collaboration and to try their traditional ramen where their noodles come with the broth and it tastes significantly different than their tsukemen which I didn't have a liking to. It was missing some oomph that not only differentiates this ramen from others I've tasted before but also gets people to keep coming. Service (5/5): Quick service! Every time I've been there hasn't been a wait. Price (4/5): To compensate for taste I do think the price needs to be lowered a bit. The tsukemen to me was definitely worth it. Ambiance (4/5): Cute little modern shop. It won't fit many big parties but it is perfect for duos.
