They have great deals on dinner on the happy hour menu too. We ordered the wings and fries deal and the triple onion noodles with a vegan chop salad. All the food we ate was super tasty and for $22 is for sure a deal. Service was friendly, attentive and cool. The place inside is nicely decorated and fits the airliner theme. I would totally come back. We also decided to treat ourselves for some dessert and tried out their hojicha tres leches and the black sesame rice crispy treats. We enjoyed a light Friday dinner during the 5 pm - 7 pm. The main dining room is small and comfortable with a festive looking bar and with a very comfortable and appreciated air conditioner. Getting there was easy and there is street parking which is free after 6 pm (check the signs). The drinks were well balanced and perfect (I had an Old-Fashioned and my companion a cider). The dishes were small plates or like tapas. The hamachi ceviche was excellent. I enjoyed the beef rendang served on a tostada. The rockfish fish & chips was satisfying with a nice crunch at each bite. There is a stage (didn't see it) and an outdoor patio (didn't see it). Came with a coworker because I owed her dinner for taking me to the airport :) It was happy hour (5-7pm daily) when we arrived. FLAVOR (4.8/5): 1. CHICKEN LIVER PATÉ: The paté was good! I liked the pickled veggies that came with - they helped balance out the creaminess of the paté. Would definitely order again. 2. GREEN CHOP SALAD: I liked the chop salad! Flavorful, great mix of textures, and a great addition to all the savory shareable plates. Since we came during happy hour, they had a deal where you could order this and the Onion Noodles for a discounted price. 3. HAMACHI CRUDO: I've had too many hamachi crudos to count, and to be completely honest, they all start to blend together. This is a good one. Great appetizer choice, especially if you're ordering other dishes on the heavier side, like the chicken wings and onion noodles. 4. CHONG QING CHICKEN WINGS: I loved the chicken wings. This review is regarding service during a live music show I attended. The kitchen wasn't open on that day, so I wasn't able to eat their food. I did have an Old Fashioned at the bar, which was excellent. I had recent knee surgery, and knowing that the music venue is standing room only and on the second floor, reached out via email prior to the show asking for any accommodations. Chef Vinh responded to me and put me in contact with the manager (Harrison) and staff for the evening, who provided service above and beyond. They made sure I could navigate the stairs safely, had an area to sit prior to the show, and during the show, provided me seating at a safe distance away from others, so that I wouldn't get jostled by the crowd. It's located in a busy street in Lincoln Heights but a lil unassuming, but they have a nice outdoor patio in the back! They have a great happy hour which is great for food specials and drinks too. Shout out to fellow yelpers for pointing us this way. Wanted to do Happy Hour and this place had good reviews. They don't have much social media presence, so I wasn't sure what type of vibe this place would be but we gave it a shot. Place is cozy inside, with booth and bar sitting. Bartender David was incredible. He definately sold the place to us as he shared some of the events they host in the patio, as well as advising they play music. We came at a perfect time as we got to hear some sounds from Alisha (hope I didn't butcher the spelling too bad) who happens to also be a bartender. Talk about talent. The other bartender, Topada, was great too. They were all attentive to the people at the bar and making convo which def gives it a community feel. Food: Send noods - delicious, flavorful, creamy, def recommend. Wings - the best wings I have had. Prefect crisp exterior with a tender juicy inside. The sauce of it was just incredible, a perfect blend of savory sweet and tangy with a very slight kick of spice. Fries - seemed basic in comparison to the other dishes we had. Felt like it needed something more than just the kosho aioli that it is served with. The chef really killed it on the flavor. For happy hour, it was a perfect fix to show the quality of the dishes and we would def go back to try additional items off their menu. If their HH menu was that good, then I anticipate the rest will be great as well. This jewel of a restaurant/bar/nightclub is absolutely underappreciated by LA clubgoers, which is difficult to understand. They have great food, creative cocktails and a sweet spot to enjoy live music. It's right off the 5 freeway in Lincoln Heights and parking is easy to find. The patio stage is airy and one of a kind, plus every time I've been here the customers are friendly and chill. They give you a generous portion of chicken liver considering it's priced at only $13. The seasonal pickles + brioche toast are really nice complements to the paté. Delish. The fries are the skinny kind with a little bit of weight on them. And the yuzu kosho aioli really elevates the fries. From the outside, the Airliner looks really unassuming. However, the patio is sick. It's spacious and airy with a giant tree as the centerpiece. It makes you momentarily that you're in the city. Great to see the Airliner open again! A gorgeous space when it was first redone a few years ago, it's recently reopened under new ownership. I haven't seen any changes to the physical space -- the bar looks as nice as it was and the patio out back still looks fine. Not sure about the second floor space, where I've seen some good bands play in the past. The food menu has changed, it's taken on more Asian influences. Vin Nguyen now runs the kitchen, and the dishes are great! The chilled sesame peanut noodles were excellent, especially on a hot summer day, and the Chong Qing Chicken Wings and Hunan BBQ Pork Ribs are divine. Very good chicken liver pâté. The food has definitely improved here. The cocktails are swell. The Missed Connections and the Fly Mamacita are excellent drinks. The bartenders know their stuff, although I miss some of the crew working here under previous ownership. Tater Tots were perfectly crispy and not drowning in Gochujang glaze, a very balanced ratio of sauce to tot. Also had the Beef Rendang and Mentaiko Spaghetti. Both were delicious! Portions are on the smaller side compared to most restaurants which was actually just right. Will definitely return to try other dishes and order the same things again. Service was friendly. Thought that was a bit strange but maybe something was going on that day? I started with a In the Same Breath ($17) mezcal cocktail which turned out to be really refreshing and tasty, especially well suited for the warm day that it was. The menu items are meant to be shared as it's izakaya style dining but our table couldn't come to an agreement on shared items so we individually ordered; compromise. I had the Chong Qing Chicken Wings ($17) which were flavored to perfection but unfortunately a small portion; I think my plate had 5-6 wings on it but don't quote me on that. Seemed like everyone enjoyed what they ordered. Our waiter was nice to provide us some recommendations based on his favorite items. I haven't had the chance to try the food at The Airliner yet so I can't speak to that but I've visited twice for drinks and always have a good time. The bartenders are genuinely friendly, and they make sure you're well taken care of. A major plus is the parking situation ! There's always a spot right in the front or close by, so you never have to walk far, which is super convenient. However there is one drawback that's hard to overlook ...the smell. Unfortunately there's a persistent, muggy odor, and it's not coming from the food. It's more like a musty, restroom-like smell that can be off-putting. I really want to love this place because of everything else it has going for it, but that smell of this place is a tough hurdle to get over. read more
