Went for a casual Tuesday night. Tuna tartar was great. Small portion but super good. Than it went down hill. The burger I ordered was so over cooked I couldn't even eat it. The after taste tasted like someone sprayed the heck out of it with pan spray and than burned it to the grill. I took 1 bite and instantly lost my appetite. I typically order medium and I'm Not picky on how it's cooked cause I'm Usually starving. And a burgers a burger. But this was literally inedible. The waiter didn't even notice. First time I was here for an event. the place was packed with both the restsurant/bar, our event and Oktoberfest. the wait staff worked hard to ensure all patrons were taken care of, especially given how packed the place was. Had a great time at Gypsy Blu for my 40th HS reunion with fellow alumni. What a funky place - with a secret door (go find it) to the upper floor. The bar staff was delightful and friendly and we all had so much fun there. Outside from the balcony and out front you could se a hoppin' Octoberfest in the street. My daughter and I went for dinner Friday night. It was busy and we were seated in a little table across from the bar with a mirror hanging on the wall. Someone brought our water. Then we waited, and waited. It had to be 15-20 minutes and not a soul came over to take even our drink order. The food is incredible and bursting with flavor, also A+ to this establishment for its ambiance and decor. Service was prompt and the breeze that accompanied us outside was so pleasant, it made the white sangria taste not as... flat? Anyway. If it were solely because of food and ambiance, this place would be perfection for me. However, the sangria was more like juice (it's fine though, still fruity and refreshing) and there was a small incident that left a very sour taste in my mouth. We sat outside and were promptly greeted by a gentleman with a lovely foreign accent. He was informative and kind and got us waters. When he came back later on to inquire about drinks and apps, he was (rather rudely, to be honest) interrupted by a blonde lady that seemed to be the manager or something related to that, because she sort of hissed at him and called him over. We were all pretty shocked by it, and she kind of called him to her as if he were a dog. I don't know, I don't intend to assume anything, but I'm guessing he messed up his section and thought we were his table when we weren't, which is fine and happens often. After he was whisked away without explanation, another server came in and proceeded to ask us what we wanted to drink. She didn't introduce herself or explain the situation, and it was just very awkward. This server was very good at her job and was friendly and thorough, but I felt like tipping the other server for our waters and his trouble, because (having been a server myself) my heart goes out to servers who hustle just to kind of get treated like crap. Whatever. That's my piece on that. I do think we will be back, maybe, since the food was seriously delightful. No joke, I moaned out loud at the first bite. Just, the incident struck me as odd and I felt for the guy, because I messed up my table section many times before while I was a server and have been publicly humiliated for it. I might be making a big deal out of nothing, but being uncomfortable is being uncomfortable. So, in summary: food is amazing, drinks could be better but still good, ambiance is superb, and the menu even offers some vegan options. Gypsy Blu is worth the try. read more

Speaking on brunch alone, I am COMPLETELY satisfied. I popped some reservations for this piece after sadly being unable to find a place to go for my birthday (aka, mother's day-- I was screwed). Gypsy was the last place on the list, and being that I had never been, it was a gamble. Upon arrival, I was pleasantly surprised by the look. I had no idea what I was walking into, and it has a really nice, classic energy running through. I was greeted warmly and seated promptly. The place wasn't quite busy yet, but soon after, the people were piling in. They had a special Mother's Day brunch menu, which had a decent lineup. I had a great server who didn't waste time satisfying my happiness. I had ordered the steak and eggs. The food came out pretty quick and in a pretty large portion. On my plate was potatoes, sourdough toast, a big ass piece of medium steak, and two over medium eggs. The test was with the steak and honestly, it was cooked perfect. It was juicy and flavorful. I have nothing negative to say about any of it. The person I was with ordered the breakfast quesadilla, which I tried and was also pretty damn good. The end of my meal came quickly with some complimentary blue cotton candy, which I found pretty interesting. They also handed me a bag with pretzels and hershey kisses in it for mother's day, which I thought was sweet. I would LOVE to come back here for more experience to raise up the star factor. There is also no parking lot. I noticed someone took a picture of it, but it clearly says that the VERY small lot out back is for employees only. I had no issues with street parking though and the meters in Ambler are free on Sundays. read more

I went to Gypsy Blue on a Saturday evening. We were sat immediately with our reservations. Service was average. We sat for a long time waiting for water refills. The food was just okay. I was very disappointed with the calamari. For the price, it was all batter and minimal calamari. Very small pieces and it was not served hot. We also ordered the cola and peanut wings which were also just okay. At least these were served hot. The GB burger was good. Probably wont be back. read more

Extremely disappointed, DO NOT recommend. Hopefully this property turns over again within the next year because they've really missed the mark. The worst part was our server, "Andrew N" in the bar area. He was obnoxious and highly inappropriate while my wife and I were trying to have a nice date night. He made us feel very uncomfortable and I'm utterly confused. If that weren't bad enough, he offered poor service and made some of the worst drinks we've ever had. If you must visit Gypsy Blu, I highly recommend that you avoid the creepy short bearded man near the bar with a Napoleon Complex. Hopefully, then, your experience will be better than ours. Met a former co-worker here for lunch last week and had a lovely time. We sat outside, which was really nice since it was a beautiful day, however I do warn you, it is right on the main drag in Ambler and there is some traffic noise (I'm looking at you obnoxious motorcycle driver). I had the Cheesesteak Eggrolls which is something I have at any restaurant that offers it. They were decent and came with a slightly zipped up ketchup. For my entree I had the slider trio, which was a buffalo chicken slider, brisket slider and a burger slider...all full of flavor and cooked well. It looks like a really fun night time place and I would definitely want to come back and bring more peeps with me. I've yet to truly dive into the food scene in Ambler, as there are a lot to choose from; this was a great start and I'll be back again soon! read more

For my first time being there I was not pleased at all I might just have to stick to carry out. I sat at the bar with my boyfriend, as the bartender talked to the couple next to us it took about 10 mins for him to acknowledge us and give us drink menus. Then the owner comes behind the bar and loud enough for us to hear says "make sure you card them". I have no problem being card myself being 25 and him being 29 but let your bartender do his job. Cheese plate is always a plus and always great but everything else came out wrong. We waited 15 mins with empty glasses until we were asked if we would like another drink, keep in mind there were only 8 people in the entire resturant including us. To top it all of the owner goes behind the bar pours a glass of wine and stands at the hostest stand drinking it while dealing with cuatomers. She pours a second glass and then sits at the bar ( maybe by the second glass she was off the clock). I just did no see much professionalism in this establishment. read more

I have been to happy hour (HH) here twice so far: 1) the bartender (brunette woman) was great and handled the (increasing) size of the crowd efficiently. 2) i sat for about 10 minutes before someone even acknowledged me. At one point the woman who was hosting came over to help at the bar, walked right past me (i was in the very first seat) and waited on different people, then walked away all together. It was not until one of the gentleman bartenders had (clearly) already attended to me that she finally acknowledged my presence. I understand bars get crowded, but if a bartender is new, maybe a busy HH isn't the best time for them to fly solo. As a wine drinker, I like that they have wine on tap (and when the barrel ran out they did sub for a bottle pour at the same price for HH). I also love that they do 1/2 bottles of wine on Wednesday (if you don't finish, they re-cork and bag it up for you). HH apps have been standard fare, I did enjoy the brisket sandwich. I am heading back there soon, maybe the next visit can get me to up my rating to 4 (I would like to give it a 3.5 but yelp is limiting) - I do like it here but there are some things they could button up. read more

I came here for the first time a couple weekends ago and it was great. My boyfriend and I came for brunch on a Sunday and were really impressed. I made reservations because I didn't know if they would be crowded or not, and at 11 a.m. there was no need for a reservation. We were seated immediately inside and were given a table away from the other diners, which was really nice. The decor here has a rustic elegance that I loved, but on to the food! My boyfriend and I both ordered the Eggs Benny and it was delicious. There was the perfect amount of hollandaise sauce and the breakfast potatoes were to die for. We were given the perfect amount too -- not too much but not too little. They also offer bottomless mimosas and bloody marys which I'll definitely have to try at some point. This is a decent brunch spot. Portions are large, good is good, however the menu is rather small. Seemed odd. I sort of just wanted oatmeal and berries, but to get berries I had to do pancakes or waffles. I'm not sure how other meals are here, but with the inexpensive pricing if it anything like brunch portions, I am sure it's a nice deal. While I didn't drink, it seemed that the drinks were good, and the draft list was extensive. I so want to frequent this lovely place, but every time i visit, the service is awful. There is a huge wine list and the waitresses know nothing anout the offerings. Thankfully, the bar tender usually can make a more educated suggestion. The food is hit or miss. I have had wonderful meals, but last night i had a half cooked shrimp and my daughter's pasta was half hard. (The place wasn't even busy). And though we both ordered the same kale and quinoa salad, mine came with a nice portion of quinoa, while my business client i was introducing to the restaurant had practically none. The waitress, so flummoxed by our questions about the huge wine list, forgot to put in our appetizer order. It is such a nice spot, and the menu is lovely. I really wish they could get the inconsistencies worked on. This is visit #5 for me and the embarrassing issues while entertaining a client may have made this my last. read more

My husband and I came here for lunch last Saturday and had such a great experience and will definitely be back soon! We sat outside on the street (they closed the street) and it was really nice. The food was AMAZING....like I am still thinking about it good. For an app we got the smokey grilled shrimp which came with grits and it was great. I'm not usually a huge shrimp fan but these were such good quality and had a really nice seasoning that I was left wanting more after we licked the plate clean. We got the jerk chicken flatbread and fried chicken sandwich to share for entrees and it was the best flatbread either of us ever had and maybe the best chicken sandwich too. We usually always have leftovers when we go out to eat but there was no chance here because everything was too good. For drinks we tried a few of the cocktails and they were all good but the watermelon one (had rind in the name but can't remember the full name) was my fav. The service was great the entire time and our waitress was super attentive and friendly. The owner and manager both came around to the tables to introduce themselves and ask if everything was okay which was a nice touch that made us feel like they really cared. My husbands favorite part was the fact that they had (alcoholic) drinks that you could get at a little stand outside when you left and drink while wondering around the town. He got a moscow mule and said it was good and very strong. Just hosted a Bridal Shower here. The upstairs room is absolutely stunning. Food was delicious, but wish there was more of a variety especially for the price. Pricing is definitely on the high end for banquets/luncheons. You have to use their in-house baker for cakes. This was a major disappointment. We opted for a cupcake-cake. Not only expensive $2-6/per cupcake!! Although very tasty, cupcakes were small, lacked icing, and the presentation was horrible. Literally the worst I've seen. Overall, I would use again if I wanted to dig deep in my pocket but would opt for a regular simple cake the next time. read more

As a big fan of both Stella Blu and Gypsy in Conshohocken, We were looking forward to the owners latest restaurant in Ambler as the location is much more convenient for us. The menu items are similar, but as per Mike the GM they have their own little twist to some of them. We had the beet salad (very good), lobster mac and cheese (a favorite at Stella Blu), and the swordfish (tasted a little too fishy). The price on the Lobster mac and cheese seemed high for the burbs. Overall a good meal and good service. As previously mentioned, the outdoor chairs are really uncomfortable. Mike the GM said it is on the list of top 5 things to change. Maybe they should move it up to number 3! We will certainly be back to give it another try. We so desperately need more good restaurants in the Ambler/Upper Dublin area. read more

I was looking for nice place to my mother out to brunch for her birthday and Gypsy Blu did not disappoint. We all had the bottomless mimosas and they a very good balance and they were nice and smooth. Very well done. Next was the Lobster Bennie whicn was great with a capital EAT. It wasn't overly runny which was good, so you were able to taste every bit of the meal. The home fries were just okay for me to be honest. I really wanted to like this place and give it 5 stars- and really with minimal effort they could easily have made it a better experience. We went for brunch (which ends at 2pm) and got there around 1:45. (So, to be fair, perhaps my experience had to do somewhat with timing?) I asked if we were in time for brunch and they said we were and sat us right away (we had to sit inside because all outdoor areas were taken- but it looks like a great place to dine outdoors!) the hostess was very nice as was our server. I ordered the Creme Brûlée French toast with a side of homefries and my friend got one of the Bennies (I think maybe the Philly one?) and homefries as well. They brought our drinks right out. Another server brought us our meals. My friend's Bennie looked a good size and she had a healthy serving of home fries. On the menu, my French toast said it came with whipped cream and berries. The "berries" really amounted to literally 1/2 a strawberry and 4 blueberries. They didn't bring any syrup or ask if I wanted any. I asked the young woman who brought our dishes about my homefries. She said "They're on the way out." 10 minutes later and they still weren't there. My drink had also been noticeably empty but the young woman was literally talking over her shoulder to me and disappeared around the corner before I could ask. I had to ask my server when she finally showed up again and then it took another 10 minutes to get them. They were lukewarm and no ketchup. I had to ask 2 other people for ketchup and it never came. The server did take these off the bill, but never offered to send them home with me (so they were just thrown out? What a waste!) Next time maybe I'll try take out - or try one of the other newer places instead. Like I said, nice enough people and the server seemed genuinely apologetic, so maybe they were short staffed? I was seated at a table and my waiter approached and simply asked "Just you?" He didn't introduce himself or say anything else. I told him yes, I was alone. He took my drink order then disappeared. He re-emerged a few minutes later at the table next to mine that had 4 people seated at it. He politely introduced himself, advised them of the day's specials and took the drink orders before going back to he kitchen. Finally, he brought my drink, took my order and walked away without saying anything more. Someone else brought my entree. I had ordered the chicken parm and while it was decent, it was not great. My server only came by once to check on me (even though I saw him visit different tables multiple times) and another worker refilled my drink. Not sure if I did something wrong or if they were short-staffed and wanted to attend to the tables that had more patrons. Girls night is always a blast when you have great food & wonderful ambiance. This restaurant is a hidden gem. The staff was watm, accomodating, and attentive. At ladies night sharing is always in order so we had the truffle fries, calamari, buffalo wings, and brussel sprouts. The truffle fries were rich & savory. The calamari was a little over cooked. The wings were crisp & flavorful. The brussel sprouts were bold & daring. For my entree I had the brown sugar brisket. The brisket was moist and succulent. This dish was accompanied with mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes. The potatoes were light, fluffy, and decadent. The vegetables were well seasoned. Love this place! Tap beer list - Awesome! Cocktails - Outstanding! The meat & cheese board can easily feed 4. Italian meats, cheeses, nuts, dates, raw honey, toasted baguettes, amazing. From main course to dessert all were delicious. Best was the service. Our server was incredible but there were two women circling the room, stopping at every table getting you anything that you could ask for. It is Ambler's Restaurant Week so they may have been going above and beyond so I will check back with a later review when things quiet down but for a busy Saturday evening they get 4 's! read more
