We had a wonderful New Year's Eve dinner at Tressini in Ambler and, as always, it lived up to our expectations. The food was excellent overall. Everything was flavorful and thoughtfully prepared, and the crispy potatoes were absolutely to die for. While my swordfish came out slightly cold and a tad bland, the quality and taste of the rest of the meal more than made up for it. The service was strong, especially considering how busy New Year's Eve can be. We were taken great care of by who I believe was the manager for the evening, which made the experience feel especially welcoming and well managed. Our server seemed extremely busy, and while we wish he could have been a bit more accommodating, it was clear he was juggling a lot and still handled everything wonderfully. My family comes to Tressini very often and we always look forward to dining here. it's a place we truly enjoy and trust for a great meal. The only things we'd love to see improved are a bit more variety on the menu and more dessert options, as there was a heavy focus on gelato. Overall, another lovely experience, and we'll definitely be back again soon. Some dishes were delicious, others were ehh. It has a nice vibe inside and the service was good. The bread/ricotta cheese/honey and the lamb chops were delicious! But, the tuna crudo was pretty disappointing. It didn't have any citrus or olive oil flavor, and was very thick for crudo. I was surprised that it was seared as well, as typically it comes raw. The pork chop was bland but crunchy. The bolognese pasta was pretty good but I'd try something else next time. I would go back for the lamb/bread sides and nice atmosphere. We had dinner at Tresini with friends, on their recommendation, and it was a wonderful meal. This is absolutely a hidden gem in Ambler. The building itself is unassuming, but opens up to a lovely space inside. There were a handful of people with children, but I wouldn't recommend this for families with young children. The food was excellent. We had their signature bread with dips, mussels, a charcuterie board, drinks, and a variety of pasta entrees. The bread was divine, but needed a little more bread for the amount of dips we got. I had Bucatini with shrimp for dinner and it had a wonderful silky texture. The service was solid on a crowded Saturday night. The waiter was helpful, and was able to make some good recommendations so we didn't end up with too much food. The portions are reasonable, but not overly generous. I was the only person, out of four, who didn't finish the entree. We will absolutely be back! Four of us just ate at Tresini for the first time. We loved it. The food, ambiance and service were all top of the line. We all had the swordfish entree and loved it. We enjoyed an appetizer, Caponata (eggplant), but it is EXTREMELY spicy, and this is not mentioned on the menu. Our mouths were on fire. Otherwise, five stars instead of four. Very enjoyable dinner. The staff and restaurant itself are very welcoming. There appears to be at least 3 different rooms where you can dine. We ate in the main room next to sliding glass doors that open into maybe a private dining area. The menu looks very interesting and varied. We really enjoyed the Piatta (homemade bread with sea salt) along with the Favetta (Fava bean purée, crème fraiche and pickled shallots). The Grilled Porchetta (pork) belly with broccoli rabe was delicious as well as different. I'm not usually a fan of salads one way or another but the Shaved Tuscan Kale salad was amazing. For our entrees we had 2 of the pastas that had tastes from both ends of the spectrum. The Spaghetti Chitarra (Octopus) with spicy salsa verde was very good but a little on the oily side for my taste. The Sweet Corn Cappellacci (little bonnets with sweet corn filling) was delicious but almost tasted like a dessert. We were given a Vanilla Gelato with a candle in it to celebrate our anniversary - an appreciated touch for the end of our meal. With such an interesting menu we will definitely be back. read more

I went to Tresini tonight for someone's birthday dinner. I had never been before, but it was a really good meal! This restaurant has a nice ambiance. There's a smaller portion of the restaurant when you walk in and also a bar. We were seated in the main portion of the restaurant - more specifically in a little side room, but also open to the rest of the restaurant. I started off with the caesar salad, which was very good. It was on the larger side and contained romaine lettuce, small pieces of croutons and shreds of celery. Very good dressing on top. I had some of their bread, which the waiter recommended. They charge $4.50 for it. The bread is a long sticks that is slightly grilled with a serving of oil for the table. It was solid bread, but not as spectacular as advertised. For my entree, I got the mahihi mahihi fish. It was very tasty and served on a bed of eggplant. The richness nicely charred a bit, too. However, the portion was quite tiny and I was still hungry after finishing my meal. I had one person in my party's goat cheese ravioli, which was very good. Others in the party thought the portions were also on the smaller side. Our waiter was very good. Nice guy and he made good recommendations the whole time. Altogether, Tresini is a very good restaurant. While I wish the portions were bigger, the service, ambiance and food are all great! read more

Tastes like something you'd get from IKEA... so at $35, it's just bad. My wife ordered the sword fish that was completely overpowered by a super-tart base that's quickly inedible. We used to really love this place so maybe I'm overreacting or maybe it's taking a downward turn....We went there for my husband's birthday. With my kids and their SOs there were 9 of us. This place is pretty expensive; we know this, but usually think it is worth it. However, I had ravioli, $33 for 6 ravioli, which was absurd. And I didn't eat two of them because they weren't very good. Also, the service was terrible. The waiter came over to give us water and then walked away. Hey, how about a drink order? And that's how the whole night went. Brought drinks, then didn't ask if we wanted to order apps. You had to flag him down. It was very disappointing. Also, the Christmas music was so loud. The acoustics are bad in there to begin with, so this just made it worse. The waiter had to explain the specials on both ends of the table because it was so loud. read more

So, we've been here twice now, and wanted to give it a second shot before posting a review because everyone has an off night. Unfortunately, it was just as disappointing on our second visit. We went with 2 people the first time and 5 people the second time, so we had the opportunity to try a number of menu items. We ordered bread (though I still can't believe we're in a day and age where you pay for bread). I wouldn't mind paying for bread if it was amazing, but this bread was grilled but not warm, and to quote my kid, "it's just mid." Between the two visits we tried the beef tartare, tuna crudo, whipped ricotta, eggplant caponata, Caesar salad and beet salad. Neither the ricotta or the caponata come with bread, so if you don't just want to eat by itself, you have to order it. Same with the beef tartare. We prefer something crunchy to eat it with for some difference in texture, but again, it doesn't come with anything. The Caesar was fine, and while the flavors on the beet salad were good, all of the red beets were so undercooked they were bordering on crunchy. The yellow beets were perfectly cooked. For entrees, we've tried the swordfish, and a number of the pastas, including the tagliatelle bolognese, rigatoni with pork ragu, chitarra with octopus, bucatini with rock shrimp, and some plain spaghetti with butter and parm. The tagliatelle was incredibly greasy. They ran out of rock shrimp for the bucatini (totally fine, but it was 6:45 on a Saturday and the restaurant was far from full, which tells me it was poor planning), and they replaced it with larger shrimp. There were no more than 2 26/30 count shrimp cut up for the entire dish. For $29.50, it was a bit ridiculous. At least leave the replacement shrimp whole. The chitarra was completely unseasoned and dry. I appreciate an al dente pasta, however the plain spaghetti for my daughter was so undercooked it was inedible. All of the rest of the pastas could have cooked a minute more either in the water to longer in the pan with their sauce. Sometimes a mediocre meal can be infinitely better with great service, but sadly, that wasn't the case here either. Our server actually ended up being the same person both times we went. He was fine- that's about all I can say about him. In both dining experiences he missed opportunities to sell another glass of wine. My glass sat empty on the table, and by the time he came back to check on us, we had finished eating 10 minutes prior. My husband was hoping for another iced tea, but again, the server was MIA. I would love a Vetri style restaurant in the suburbs, and we had high hopes that Tresini would give us that fix. I just don't think it's going to happen. At this price point, and with the press surrounding Tresini, we just expected more. If you're looking for a great Italian spot in Ambler, you might want to look somewhere else. If you want a quick drink at a nice bar, maybe make the trip- the wines were consistently good. read more

We've been to Tresini on multiple occasions. In its beginning days it was a stellar Italian spot outside of the city, which the area desperately needs. Over the past year or so there has been a noticeable decline in the quality of the food being served. Pasta is inconsistent, seasoning is inconsistent, dishes lacking flavor. Overall, it's just inconsistent and average to below average in our recent visits. (We've gone 3 times over the last 4 months or so and over 6 times total). This review isn't meant to disparage Tresini as I know the chef and this team is more than capable of putting out high quality food. I'm not sure where or when the fall off occurred but I'm writing this in hopes that it can return to the level it was at when it opened. It seems as though the attention to detail and the passion has somewhat gone from this place and I have faith they can get back to where they were in its early days. We will continue to give our patronage there because we do believe that this restaurant is much needed out in the suburbs as a legit alternative to Italian downtown. But they need to get back to why they got all the buzz in the beginning. read more

The food was very very good. I loved the truffle pasta but it may be too sweet for some. The bread was so good. This restaurant had been on my radar since they opened, finally got there a few weeks back on a Saturday night during the world series. Fortunately we were able to get a table as most people were probably screaming at a TV somewhere. Let me start by saying we had high expectations. Perhaps not fair as it is a new restaurant and you allow for a learning curve. But you hear former chef of a Vetri restaurant and you expect it to be great, and it was great! The food was outrageous and unique! We went with another couple who's tastes are different than ours but ended up sharing which resulted in a wide array of things outside our typical realm, which ended up as a eureka moment for me. Couple of highlights: Some type of sweet corn stuffed pasta, maybe an agnolotti or something, think it was a special, one of the best things i've ever tasted and not even sure it was the best dish of the night. Another special, some type of pork sandwich was on the menu for the phillies game, we were able to get that pork on a bed of crispy potatoes and I almost fell off the chair when I tasted this. Wars would be fought over this dish if it got out to the public. The crispiest potatoes known to mankind. Rigatoni with pork ragu. This is when I realized the level of Italian cooking, masterful, best pasta I've tasted in a really long time! Squid ink pasta was apparently unstoppable as well. Oh the bread, yes people, you have to pay for the bread, oh the horror! Carabba's will still take you in don't worry. Sure I'm a romantic who loves nothing more than eating enough gorgeous seeded bread that if consolidated, would exceed the dimensions of my torso. This is a great formula when needing to augment a pedestrian soft pasta. Not the Al dente masterpiece I experienced here, no need for the bottomless bread to encroach on that although it was fantastic. As were the accoutrements and certainly worth the money. The tiramisu budino just shut the whole night down it was so absolutely ridiculous! I'd kill 3 men for that budino! The cocktails were great as well. Overall a phenomenal dining experience and I actually expected it to be more expensive than it was. Yes the portions aren't huge but with todays inflation, you'd have to double the prices to keep the baby boomer portions going. They made us go sit at the bar and have a drink before being seated. Which was weird, we were like we can wait here in the lobby and they straight up said NO. I sat at the bar late one afternoon as the clouds rolled in, enjoying the new clean, bright renovations which took over a year to complete, but that's because San Marco was living in the 1960's. The only problem I saw with the new surroundings is that some of the same old bar flies who used to hang at San Marco are now back at the well. Whadya gonna do...ignorance is bliss. On to the good stuff, wonderful bartender and service by Gia. I wish they had just a tad larger selection of gins and vodkas, maybe over time. My friend and I split a caesar salad. I loved it, crispiness, freshness, sharp flavors shooting throughout the dressing to enlighten one's tongue to what a little extra prep effort can do. 5 stars The homemade green garlic pork sausage had a crisp casing, sitting on a bed of polenta with a relish which just tanged-it-up wonderfully. 5 stars I had the Rigatoni with pork rib ragu and it was good, a thick ragu but not much of a serving on the middle of the half empty white plate. Presentation lacking, the pasta, homemade and cooked perfectly, was the highlight. 4 stars My friend had the Buccatini with asparagus and prosciutto, I'm getting this next time. I had a couple bites and this dish was fantastic, from the presentation through every morsel on the plate! 5 stars I did see the prices of the other menu items including the $10 bread + EVOO mixture which I did not get, don't need the extra carbs when you have pasta that delicious to give you your daily dose. Today was a mediocre day at Tresini. We had the widely acclaimed "best one he ever had" 16/18oz bone in New York strip (special entree of the day). We had it medium and another couple had it medium well. Both steaks were mediocre at best. We were surprised with the amount of gristle to cut away. Felt like it was 8-10oz of net steak left!! I'll stretch to a 3 out of 5 for this steak. Side note, I will not order this again here. On a positive note the service was good and the ambiance was good. So glad this new contemporary italian restaurant opened in the Ambler area. Open for only 2 months. Really great space, attentive service and nice food and drink menu.
