Went to Gypsy Blu on a whim. Great weather equals AMAZING outdoor eating. We even took our dog, and they came to the table with a water bowl for her! The service was top notch. Our server, Jennie, was friendly and I asked for a suggestion. The chicken and waffles were so tasty and crunchy. Yum. My husband ordered an avocado toast with turkey bacon and egg sandwich which he completely demolished. All food was served in a timely manner. Oh, it was acoustic Sunday morning and the young man playing guitar sounded just like a professional coffee house player. Great selection of songs. I came here for the first time with some girl friends because the word is they have amazing dessert. First the ambiance is adorable. Ambler is such a cute town. We had their coconut cake which was delicious. It was creamy yet dense which I love in cake. Their apple pie egg rolls had a crunch in every bite and pair perfectly with vanilla ice cream. My least favorite was the crème brûlée. I felt like it was missing something but if I'm being honest, I wouldn't mind getting it again. Tried this out today! They have cute outdoor seating but we were sat inside. They have nice decor inside as well. Service was fast our food came out quick. We got the chips with short rib and cheese curds. The cheese curds Were cold and would have tasted better if they were warmed up and we ask for extra cheese. The chips were good but the appetizer was overpriced for what you got. The short rib had no flavor. The shrimp tacos were good, there were 3 and the coleslaw was well made. We also got the plain Caesar salad and the chicken and pickle sandwich. The chicken tasted more like a thigh than a breast which was smaller than expected. It was a lot breading that made it look bigger. I personally like the Popeyes chicken sandwich over this and for a much lesser price. I think there could be improvements in the kitchen. read more

I can't say enough good things about Gypsy Blu. We dined here tonight on a whim. We made reservations around 3pm for 6:30pm and it was a breeze. We arrived a bit early around 6:00 and were sat immediately. They even gave us the option to dine on the patio, we chose indoors. We started with the calamari. It was good but not great. It was only the rings and it came in a tempura batter. It was light and not greasy. The sauce that accompanied has just enough spice. My only complaint would be there wasn't enough banana peppers. For entrees I went with the mahi mahi special and my wife went with the scallops. The mahi was grilled to perfection! It was an excellent piece of fish. The potatoes were nice and crispy, the sautéed peppers were nice with the cream sauce. My wife's scallops again were spot on and cooked just right. The were large and 4 were the perfect amount. The spinach was cooked great and seasoned well. The butternut squash was a nice addition with the risotto. We normally don't get dessert but tonight we couldn't resist. We went with the apple spring rolls. Wow! They were delicious! Warm, fried and sweet. The restaurant itself is very clean and modern. Very similar to their other place Southern Cross in Conshohocken. Had lunch today with my wife. First time at Gyspy it will not be the last. Located in Ambler new owner took over right as pandemic hit. Place is spotless old building great feel. Lunch selection was good. Young lady who was our waitress Caroline was very polite &prompt whole staff was courteous.shrimp tacos & spare ribs were excellent. I came here with friends last night for the dueling piano show, as part of Ambler restaurant week. The show was first come first serve (you needed wristbands to get it) which is always a little anxiety inducing since you have to get there early to guarantee yourself a spot. My girlfriend and I were commenting how we couldn't believe Gypsy Blu didn't change a cover for the show! Honestly, I think I would rather buy tickets for a small fee in advance that guarantees a spot to the show, than have to rush to get tickets for free. Something for the restaurant to consider for the future. The upstairs space, and the restaurant itself, are so incredibly cute. It was that dimly lit, romantic rustic vibe without trying too hard. Downstairs has a full bar, while the upstairs has a limited stock bar and they had a few snacks you could purchase during the show (Old Bay Chips, pretzel bites and popcorn). The dueling piano show, performed by the Philly Keys, was such a great time. They took piano requests (with tip) and the entertainers were very interactive with the audience. Again, I can't believe the show itself was free to get in to! To Gypsy Blu, a great addition for your next show would be a cocktail waitress who walks the floor and takes drink/snack orders. It would limit your patrons' interruptions during the show. The staff that was at the bar were friendly and helpful otherwise. Based on my experience at this restaurant (without dining experience), I would absolutely come back! Would love to come see another performance. read more

I met a friend here for dinner, the food was good not great but good. I had the duck confit flatbread and my friend got the blackened shrimp taco; both were good but we were not over moon about either dish. I thought they both were overpriced for the portions. We also got dessert, snickers cheesecake and the fudge brownie.. the snickers cheesecake was really good ~ the fudge brownie was less then stellar (and I love dessert)! We enjoyed the Flatbreads, the Beyond Burger, and the signature brisket. Could not have enjoyed our experience more. As frequent diners out, we were impressed with the quality of service for a newly opened establishment. Loved the buffalo cauliflower appetizer. It was perfect for me and my two friends. My one friend and I went the safe route and ordered the crispy fried chicken sandwich and my other friend went with the shrimp tacos. Portions were big enough and satisfactory. Loved the fries and extra pickles they added. I would come back again. Overall wonderful service (a bit too attentive in my opinion...) First, I have to say that the service at Gypsy Blue was excellent. The outdoor seating on the busy Ambler street was fun and relaxing. The food came out quickly yet we were never rushed to leave despite how busy they were. Now to the food. Very underwhelming. I ordered the shrimp scampi with spaghetti. I could have done a much better job making this at home. The shrimp were plump and fresh, and there were six of them in the dish. But the dish was drenched in the bland oily garlic wine sauce, so much that it splashed around every time I took a bite. They broke the spaghetti before cooking it, so instead of nice twirlable noodles, they were little broken pieces. And, the spaghetti didn't taste very good. Maybe undercooked- I don't know. I also ordered a side salad, which was real tiny and just a few ingredients. Nothing special. I might give this restaurant another chance. Maybe I'll just never order the shrimp scampi again. But overall, I wish we had gone elsewhere. read more

We ordered the "meat" and cheese board for an appetizer and were rather disappointed with what we got, so much so that I had to leave a review. We get that Gypsy Blu isn't a Michelin star restaurant, but for $22 we expected a decent charcuterie board. What came out looked like an adult lunchable. First, it had almost no cured meat which is why I put "meat" in quotations. About 3 slices of salami and 3 slices of what appeared to be prosciutto. Second, the cheese was cut up deli slices. I've never been served this before, even at another restaurant serving meat and cheese plates for half the price. Really couldn't believe they actually served cut up pre-sliced cheese that I can go buy at Aldi. Third, the board was mostly fruit. Half a cut up red and green apple, a few strawberries, and prunes/raisins (could not tell what they were). Also some half grilled bread and a few canned pecans. Lastly, nothing actually went together in terms of flavor. I'm really not sure who designed this dish, but it was rather depressing. It felt like it was thrown together last minute without much thought or testing. My suggestion would be to please redesign this menu item and consult a chef trained in charcuterie to make it a better experience. Our other items were okay. The salmon was cooked well and steak was on point, but sides were not. Rice was overcooked and 1/2 the asparagus was undercooked, which seem like fundamental cooking mistakes for simple items. Gave them 2 stars because the service was friendly and drinks were good, but would not eat here again. Maybe the typical pub food (fries, burgers, etc) is better, but they don't seem to have a good grasp of their dinner menu. Could be a 4 or 5 star experience if they put some more time into planning and cooking their food. read more

We went here last night for Ambler Restaurant Week/grand opening under new management. The owner was super welcoming and the staff knowledgeable and friendly! We started out with the burrata: super delish but you need more bread. Our main meals were: the pork chop cowboy, a burger and crab cakes. Pork chop is served medium with street corn and a grilled peach. All were so good. The burger also was delicious and was served with homemade chips. The crabcakes were fresh, no filler but the side arugula could've been replaced with something else. Overall, very good and can't wait to go back to try the Brisket Mac and cheese! read more

The short rib was ok but the ravioli was bland and tasteless. The seasonal sangria tasted like juice and the bread they serve was hard and tasteless. I had high hopes for here and have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while, but sadly I was disappointed. They do give you a discount when you show a valid Septa pass though. read more

The Caesar salad had a dead smushed fruit fly on the romaine lettuce.. I didn't complain because I didn't want to start a scene, but I ate half of it and left the part with the fly separate on the plate and I'm honestly surprised the waitress didn't mention anything. It was very hard to miss, but that's fine. Also the salmon was very very salty. Their truffle and sweet potato fries were good, and they have a solid wine list. We went to Gypsy blu for Easter brunch as a family. The server was very attentive and the restaurant is very nice but I wasn't impressed with the food. I had an omelette - the eggs did not have much of a taste for the price of ~$12. Other people in my family got the French toast - they enjoyed it but it was a very small portion. My boyfriend really enjoyed his burger. I was a bit frustrated with the lack of consideration for allergies. I told the waitress about my severe gluten allergy & the entree still came with bread on top of it. When I asked her for a different dish due to the severity of the allergy, she replied "can't I just take the bread off?" I would be cautious about going here if you have an allergy. read more

Had a large group at Gypsy Blu for brunch on a Sunday afternoon to see friends who were visiting from out of town. It was a beautiful summer day and like everyone else, we wanted to sit outside. Despite it being busy, the staff was extremely accommodating and ended up arranging a special table for us on the upstairs deck where the restaurant normally hosts special events. Beautiful setting and great views of the town. Our waiter Drew was excellent. He was responsive and patient with the high maintenance members of our group (me). We went here for the first time last night. We had high expectations based off of the restaurant's appearance and menu. The atmosphere is great! Super cute inside and out. We unfortunately weren't able to get a table outside, so we sat inside. My husband got the turkey burger and cole slaw. The burger had a few crumbles of feta and a few sad pieces of cooked spinach on it. It was super underwhelming. The side of coleslaw was really small and had no seasoning. My husband is a big coleslaw guy and he was disappointed. I got the fried chicken sandwich and fries. The server said the fries were "the best in the area". Again the portion of fries were small and they were nothing special at all. Similar to McDonald's fries actually. The chicken on my sandwich was too small for the bun, so there were a lot of bites of just bun. It also said it had spicy mayo on it...must have been a very small amount because I tasted nothing. The whole sandwich was overall dry and not exciting at all. Both of our entrees were almost $20 each as well. The food here is nothing special at all. read more

Beautiful ambience; excellent service. The Caesar Salad was very good; our Brussels Sprouts appetizer was tasty, but nothing special. My Salmon Oscar with asparagus was delicious, as was my additional side of garlic spinach. The cheddar cheese sauce that accompanies the tater tots is kinda bland, but the mashed potatoes are great. I recommend the Pecan Pie Bread Pudding, topped with ice cream and caramel, for dessert. Despite several mishaps (the kitchen mixed up our side orders and accompaniments; our brownie and bread pudding desserts were not warmed; the ladies room was having plumbing problems and only one working toilet), I attribute this to the chaos of Amblerfest that same day. Bar and restaurant? Let's start with the restaurant...They should remove Gypsy Ribs from the menu. They were so dried out and awful, it was disrespectful to the animal. As for the bar...limited beer menu and the first 2 I asked for they were out of. A sign of poor management magnified by the fact that the waitress wasn't even informed they were out of either one. Giant NO for this place. Try it if you like, you should be able to find a place to park within 3 or 4 blocks. :D read more

First time eating at Gypsy Blu!! We will be coming back very soon!! The staff is amazingly kind, friendly and FUN!! It was great seeing Elves and Santa hats in their Christmas in July fun!! Moderately priced with specialty drinks, local beers and wines! The food is amazing and where else can you get the Gypsy Burger made with lamb!! The bar is beautiful too! We met the owner, Bob, who was engaging all the customers in conversation and questions about their service!! He takes his staff to a fun park in August. This year it is Hersey Park! Closes his doors to take care of them and have fun!! He outreaches in the community with pet rescues and such and puts a percentage of proceeds toward the shelter in August! They have music and line dancing during the week and weekend! And brunch on Saturday and Sunday!! The ambiance is lovely inside and they have wonderful outside dining in which you can bring your dog too!! We were very impressed with the entire dining experience!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! read more

Stopped here around brunch time. I was excited they had mimosas and when my waitress brought it out it looked and tasted like pure orange juice. Theirs no way they put more than a tablespoon of champagne in there. Also, the grain bowl is a salad with a sprinkle of quinoa and a edamame bean in it, def false advertising. Did family Easter dinner here on Sunday. Made a reservation through open table a week in advanced. First no parking available at this restaurant. You park on the street if available or at one of the city lots. They have three separate doors to enter but only allowed us to enter through the front where the have a fire pit out front. Walked in to be seated only to find out that they did not have our reservation. Found that quite odd but I guess it is what it is. After the host made a point to check her computer I guess she could seat us since there was only two other tables being used in the entire place. Again did not feel warm all over since there was plenty of seating so why make a fuss. Once seated we waited for our waitress who turned out to be pleasant. She took our drink order and gave us our menus. The Easter menus were sparse. We had meat eaters and vegetarians. We asked if the vegetarians could eat of the main menu since they had nothing on the Easter menu listed for them. No was the answer, Not Good. We did the bass which turned out to be a good dish with the corn n crab bass. The vegetarians had soup which turned out to be to sweet for potato leek. The drinks served before dinner were good other them being served in spotty or dirty wine glasses, did not go over well. On the second round my glass was cloudy with lip stick on it. Not good. After letting our waitress know this she came back with spotless glass. We finished and did not have dessert. This is our third time back here and my first write up about this place. I do not feel that this restaurant is living up to the idea they are trying to entertain. I don't think we will be back. I wish them well. read more
