My friend and I dropped in for dinner after a long hike in the area. The service was quick and very friendly. Very friendly! The ambiance was very cute and artistic. I have an adventerous spirit with wonderlust and wanted to eat here for years. The sign about global food was so enticing. For appitizers, we shared a fried sweet potato balls which were excellent. They were great and the highlight of the meal. He ordered a stir fry while I ordered the Thai Salad. I love Thai Salad - I had Som Tam yesterday. A big bowl of shredded vegetables with peanuts and a vingar base sauce. Yum! I also enjoy fusion food from the area too. And this one was not Som Tam - it came with mangos and pickled vegetables. SIGN ME UP! You choose the protein and I choose chicken. Well, I am not sure why the salad was named Thai Salad and left me underwhelmed. All the ingredients were fresh and well cooked. But the salad reminded me of a ceasar salad (without the crutons and cheese) than anything Asian. Very American salad dressing. Big leafs of iceburg lettuce (or romane?). 4 mango slices that were thin and were not fully ripe. A few pickles. There was nothing asian about it at all. And it would have been much better with crutons and cheese. The mangos and pickles were not forward enough to compete with the salad dressing. My friend was happy with his stir fry. First time here. I had a great lunch w my friend. Started out w the calamari. Not the best that I have had. I found it chewy. I did like the dipping sauce. I would not order it again. We shared 2 dishes. Thai salad add protein over a bed of mixed greens, cucumbers, pickled mango and papaya and red onions. Served with Thai garlic-herb vinaigrette. Very good. Then we had a chicken sandwhich (can't remember name) in a pita bread that was so delicious. The bread was so soft and seemed freshly made. The chicken was marinated perfectly. Food: The menu here is definitely unique. Lots of variety and not the typical area heavy burgers, fries and grease which is really all the area has to offer. We've been twice and both times we're happy that we went to mix up the food scene, but felt that it was about a B. Most of their entrees have rice and a vegetable, with is like a generic orange rice and 3 pieces of asparagus. Tastes good, just sort of generic for a place like this. I got the Thai steak salad and the Niçoise salad. The Niçoise salad was definitely my favorite thing that we got. It didn't have all the ingredients that this salad typically does, but the tuna was good and I enjoyed the dressing. The Thai steak salad left a lot to be desired. I thought the steak was really good, but other than that it was very boring. Just lettuce, big rings of red onion, a few slices of papaya and steak. Apps: The grilled cheese app is good. Simple grilled cheese but the sauce is delish. Mezza app was a B. The pita was very good; warm and fluffy. It came with with some tzatziki sauce, olives, feta and hummus. Overall it could have used a little bit more flare and color diversity in my opinion. Maybe pickled onions or mixing up the hummus flavors? Desserts: nothing to shake a stick at. A lot of variety on the menu but we got the banana cream pie and the Canadian cake. Both were pretty lack luster and the presentation was not good - just kind of slapped on the plate. I am sure if I made the way through the whole menu there would be some gems. Service: We sat at the bar each time and felt that the service was fast and efficient but bordered on slightly curt and annoyed. If you want small talk or a lot of smiles the bar probably isn't for you. For the area this place definitely stands out because you can get lighter and more eclectic options. We got take out for two people total price for two meals and one soda was about $30. The portions were quite small for the price. I got the falafel which was good, very moist, my partner got the BLT. Overall the food was good but the value for the price is not there. A couple quirks in ordering takeout: - Even if you go in person they have you call in your order. - The online menu is missing some of what is available on the physical menu (such as non-alcoholic drinks) so if you were to order ahead you don't have all the options visible. We ordered the Kung Pao Calamari, Southwestern Cauliflower Patties and the Nachos Tres Grandes with Chicken. We also ordered two deserts, one was the Reeces pie and I don't recall the name of the other dessert but it also contained chocolate. All of the food was delicious. Let's start by saying I received a VERY RACIST MESSAGE FROM THE OWNER I made reservation for Saturday at 7pm I arrived at 6:50pm the owner insisted I wait for a table for two to be cleaned (even though there were empty tables in the front for 2 people) she sat two people who came in after me right in the front at the empty table, then once my table was ready she took us to the back of the restaurant right next to the cold door. I definitely don't recommend if your a minority. Now food, the appetizers were good we had calamari which could have been fried a little harder but had a really good sauce underneath. We also had the nachos which were great! For dinner I had the Brazilian shrimp (great size, good sauce if you like tomato) asparagus (salty) mash potatoes (was extremely under seasoned) my spouse had the jerk chicken sauce was great very small portion. We asked for vegan and gluen-free dishes and the restaurant had quite a lot of choices despite some chaos and confusion among the staff. Nearly all the parties in our section of the restaurant were vegan which was amusing, makes you wonder why they don't just make the restaurant entirely vegan! The pumpkin pasta was excellent, the crunch of the pumpkin seeds with the mildly spiced pumpkin sauce was a great bite. My husband had the enchiladas Rojas and they were tasty definitely add the guacamole it was excellent. My daughter had the had the Malai Kofta with lobster added, she lives in Colorado and was needing some good lobstah! This dish was also amazing with a good hit of spice. They do not serve breakfast or brunch. Yelp is wrong. They do serve a wide variety of lunch items so anyone should be able to find something they want. The view on the outside patio was beautiful, minus the traffic. The inside is eclectic and just a very fun devor. I ordered the strawberry ginger cooler and it was very yummy. For lunch I ordered the duck grilled cheese with added goat cheese ($1 more) and my hubby got the zuni roll. He said his looked basic, but he was surprised to find it was packed with flavor. Mine was good, but it was missing the sweet savory flavor had hoped for from the fig jam. So I asked them for the fig jam that was supposed to be in it. They told me the fig jam was cooked over the stove with the duck. I said oh when I read the menu it seemed more to be more of a spread, well can I have some more then. She responded yes, but there will be an upcharge. So I asked how much and she said probably a dollar or more. I said I sure hope not, can you check. She came back and said it would be $1.50. I responded that is too much, I just wanted a little bit. She said she would ask her manager. A little bit later the manager showed up with the jam, said to me enjoy your fig jam, and left. Kind of abrupt, but I said thank you as she walked away. Both sandwiches had a small side of potato chips and two picked carrots, love it. We get the bill. They charged me $1.50 for the fig jam. I was mad, I did not agree to that. We asked the waitress about it, she said she would get the manager. The manager came up and basically said you ordered the fig jam what's the problem. She acted annoyed. I basically told her I didn't but I had said the price was too much and then she brought the jam to me and that was her decision. She was pissed looking even with a mask on. I really didn't care, I was more annoyed with the ridiculousness of it all. Seriously, we are taking about jam. More silly convo happened. I told her an upcharge was fine, but not a $1.50. I would be willing to pay 50 cents for jam. She then responded she would talk to the owner. Then the waitress came back with a new receipt with the jam now being 50 cents. I mean seriously people, it's jam. The waitress had added earlier it was $1.50 because it was homemade. Has anyone made jam before. I have and it is not rocket science. This place would have gotten 5 stars, but the fact they upcharged me for something I didn't order them tried to bully me about it just did not go over well with me. Sorry, I don't take that trash. You walk in and you can feel a sense of warmth, even from the ambiance. Quirky designs, colorful paintings adorn the walls. Even your table has a beautiful glass design. Service is friendly, attentive and at the same time they do not hover over your table, so you can take your time. Once we came in before they were officially open for the day, but they let us in anyway. So kind! Coming to the food. Oh wow. The menu is eclectic, rather global in nature. We've tried the quesadilla which was nice. So was the spicy tao black bean burger. The star of the show were the Egyptian brussel sprouts. Honey Aleppo flavored fried brussel sprouts with a hazelnut feta dipping sauce. Absolutely delicious! During Fall, they serve warm apple cider, hit the spot on a chilly day. The food and drinks were good, probably some of the best in the area, but don't expect big city quality. An adorable and eclectic setting, the view from our outdoor table was astounding! The espresso martini was tasty (sans baileys), and the other cocktails sounded good too. I had one of the specials--a lobster dish over white rice. The overall meal was tasty, but a bit bland and the lobster could've been cooked better. I feel like this was because it was a special and I'm sure the main menu items are worthy of five stars. Portions are big and service is pretty good, but a little short staffed. Prices are a little high for the area but it offers such a unique experience that I think this spot is worth trying, especially in a group of people with different tastes and cravings!
