If I work downtown on a Wednesday during the Capitol Farmer's Market months- I will usually be one of the many of dozens of people in the long line for their food. Ambience? It's a food truck. I always order the same thing-falafel sandwich no onion but with the spicy sauce which I mange on at my desk when I get back to the office. The falafel takes a little more time- but so worth it. Today (6/10/26) something special happened. A woman in front of me collapsed on her coworker's shoulder then fell to the ground. While the woman in front of her called 911, the cashier saw what happened and realizing she was OK gave her a cold bottle of water. The lady eventually recovered and was sitting in the shade about ten minutes later when I left.. It was a little thing but a big thing. It tasted alright and when I thought the server asked me if I wanted spicy, I thought it was gonna be a spicy season like the food truck I got mine's from but this one, they only added siracha (I believe). There was no line at all, they weren't busy either but the other restaurants were. Now I know why. The service is quick, the staff are friendly, and when the falafel is cooked right it tastes great, but you have a 20% chance of it being grossly undercooked, which is fairly inedible. Seems to happen the most in the summer or when it's slammed. If you see a line and you were there for the falafel continue at your own risk. read more

I used to LOVE this gyro truck. Best gyro's ever. It was always quite a deal, too, and the flatbread was FILLED with meat. The prices have skyrocketed, but that's okay with me, because I don't mind paying for a good meal. They even throw in a drink. The last couple of times I had one, there was so very little meat in the flatbread. It was mostly lettuce, onions, and sauce. I'm guessing less than half the meat that they usually put in, and yet the price has almost doubled. I hope this doesn't last. Maybe they got a new person. Who knows. Let me start by saying that the food is good. My problem with this place is with how my order was handled. I ordered a mixed platter with no hot sauce. And when I received my order there was hot sauce on it. So I went to get my order corrected and was told that they would fix it but that I should've checked my receipt when I ordered. Sac State students are lucky to have this on campus! It is the best place to grab something to eat and probably one of the reasons why non-sac state and/or alumni visit the campus. When I first had this, I was so hesitant with trying lamb over rice even after being told countless times that it was "hellllllla good." But once I took a bite, I was sold. The only time I'll eat lamb is from here. The meat was super juicy and flavorful in addition to the white sauce they use (which is sooo bomb)! Note: they leave out a sauce bottle filled with the white sauce for those who want more! The only con is it is a bit pricey for the amount they give...($8) and sometimes they run out of lamb or chicken...and sometimes put too much of the greens and so little meat. A simple menu, filling meals, and quick service easily makes Gyro 2 Go one of my absolute spots for lunch at Sac State! Staff here is always friendly and welcoming. They're also very quick with taking orders and making the food as they make everything in large batches. I also must add that you can see how they cook the food, which I think is neat! My favorite is the beef over rice or fries, depending on how I'm feeling that day. The beef is cooked well and the sauce complements the rice and fries well. You can ask to have the dish be spicy or not spicy. It usually comes with a side of salad, but you can ask for that to be removed in favor of more rice/fries! Downside to this spot is that they have messed up on my order a few times, especially when modifying the sauce toppings. This review is about an old experience from pre-COVID times. I love this spot. The food is delicious, I've literally never had better gyro from the multiple spots I've been to in our area. Their chicken is nice, flavorful, and tender. I would eat this everyday if I could. I used to get the wraps but when they increased the price on those, I switched over to the plates - spicy chicken over fries. However, they keep increasing the prices and decreasing the amount of food, so, I don't think I'll be coming back as regularly as I used to. I can get twice the amount of food from panda express for the same cost so it's not worth it to me. I love this place but they've priced me out over the past three years. There are food courts with a variety of places but this is my go-to whenever I crave greek/mediterrean food. I usually get the lamb/beef platter with extra rice and lettuce w/large fries and white sauce on it. It is a load of gooooooodness. Portion size is very large for a 8+ platter and $3 fries. This is a great alternative for students at Sac State. All the standards are available in the other food court like Burger King, Panda, Round Table etc. but you can only eat so much of that rubbish. Located in the Riverfront Building, Gyro to Go does a nice job. The portions are fair and the platters come with a drink. The options are soda or a lemonade/tea combo. Wish they served plain iced tea, so with my cup I got ice water. Prices aren't bad- $7 for a wrap and $8 for a platter. The lines can get long but they keep it moving quickly.
