We just discovered Gai N' Rice and I could eat this stuff everyday! It's a little out of the way but always a treat every time we trek it out to Elk Grove. Lately, we've been driving all the way out here to get our car washed and then order the classic chicken rice plates while we wait. Everything is just so consistently delicious from the sauce it comes with to their perfectly cooked chicken, to the flavorful broth and that addictive rice. Their cucumbers and herbs can be a little fresher, that's my only comment but still... 5 stars! Great portions too and nice staff! I was in the EG area and I always wanted to try Gai 'N Rice. I walked in and the restaurant was empty, I ordered at the front and got a Thai tea, classic and the corn and cheese wonton. After I sat the food quickly came to my table. The spotlight dish was definitely the corn and cheese wonton, a combo I never had, in so use to the crab and cheese combo. This place specializes in chicken and rice plates and they did not miss. The chicken was super juicy and the soup was clean tasting. We've been coming to this place a few times over the last year and they don't disappoint! If I had to give it one word, I would say: Consistent! Each time we've been here, the quality tastes the same, which is great since we love it here. We planned to order our food to go and from the moment we entered the restaurant until we left the entire experience was excellent. We were pleasantly greeted by the cashier when we entered. She patiently answered our questions about the food and drinks menu items giving us enough details to help us choose our wonderfully tasty food and drink choices. Kudos to the cashier. Our to go order was bundled to perfection. Along with the two main meal containers, we had small containers of sauce and two medium size containers of broth; but, we found absolutely no spillage or leaking after opening the bag. Nice! We did not have to dip our chicken pieces in the bag or slide it around our counter top. We thoroughly enjoyed the Crizp Chicken, sticky-rice, and dumplings as each was simply scrumptious! In fact, our meal was food coma DELICIOUS. The sweet chilli sauce that came with meal was actually good and not as spicy as I'd thought it would be. I'm not a fan of spicy sauces. The broth was ok, but could have had a little more flavor. Lastly, I must confess that after eating I did settled into a state of bliss that I can only identify as a food coma. That state of bliss was most satisfying and worth repeating. The food is pricey, but worth it. We ordered two drinks. For me - Brown Sugar Herbal Jelly Milk Tea and my hubby - Strawberry Lemonade. I love extra sweet drinks. My drink was both tasty and sweet to my liking. I have added Gai'N Rice to my favorite list of places to order milk teas. I always specify extra sweet when I order milk teas. However, at other places that I've ordered from I ended up receiving a tasteless bland drink, and the added jellies did not add to the flavor. I went here on a recommendation. I have been wanting to try this for a while and did not realize it was so close to my home. A bit hard to get to from the street, but OK. I ordered the Rama, which is all breast meat and broccoli with Thai peanut sauce. I say it was just OK, plain chicken breasts with broccoli and peanut sauce, not my idea of an amazing Thai meal. On further review from my fellow Yelpers, I should have gotten the Crispy Chicken, that seemed to be the top hit. Otherwise the resturant has a nice clean look, with a few scattered tables. Gai 'N Rice is one of my absolute favorite dinner places. It's not fancy nor extravagant. It's definitely the chill comfort Asian food if you can call it that. Very simple but so much flavor. It has pretty good portions if you're like me and don't eat a lot. Yes it's a bit pricey and their prices have gone up in recent months but you get what you pay for. A lot of food with not a whole lot of grease, or coloring to make it look like extravagant Thai food that we're used to seeing. My favorite is the Take 2 which is half breast meat and half crispy chicken. It comes with white rice, cucumbers and 2 sauces. The soy peanut sauce is for the poached chicken breast and the sweet chili sauce for the crispy chicken. If you like the best of both worlds, get this one. If you're sharing and one person likes all breast the other likes crispy, this is the perfect order. From time to time, I like to order the classic which is thigh meat with skin and chicken breast. Each meal also comes with a side of chicken broth. I'm not sure how they prep their chicken to be so juicy and not dry. Everyone knows chicken breast is dry. Other favorites include their crispy taro puff (puff pastry filled with taro) which comes as 2 and the mango sticky rice with coconut. I come here often and sometimes I think they recognize me. Always service with a smile and they are pretty accommodating. They have other dishes too such as the curry noodle with chicken. I don't like this one just because it either had too much noodle or too many veggies. Not the best I've had and had better curry noodle from other places. I'd stick to their main meals. I've had this place bookmarked for a while because I'm frequently in the area. However today I finally made time to have lunch here. It did not disappoint. I ordered the Classic meal, which comes with chicken breast and thighs. I liked the thighs more, but the chicken breast was surprisingly juicy. The best part about this meal was my daughter who has an allergy to soy, sesame, gluten and peanuts was able to enjoy a meal. My wife said the staff was kind, understanding and accommodating to my daughter's allergies. We did however find a noodle in the broccoli, which most likely contains gluten. So this leads me to think that the broccoli might be cooked in the same water as the noodles. But my daughter didn't have any allergic reactions so that's a win for us. If your allergies are more severe, I would check on this. I ended up coming back here right before closing for dinner. A tiny bit pricey, but for convenience, flavor and customer service, I'd say it's worth it. Also If you're watching your nutrition, this is a solid place to have a meal high in protein meal. I like how the skin is on this compared to another place that I frequently buy from. The consommé was amazingly flavorful and the accompanying sauce was one of my favorites. I wish it was a bigger container! For the fried "crizp" style, it was very good but a little too greasy for my preferences. My mom ordered their curry noodles and was not as enthusiastic about it. I was in the area and was able to stop by to grab some take out. The parking lot is a bit weird depending on which direction you're coming from, but there are plenty of spots available. The restaurant is medium sized and has seating if you'd like to dine in. The team there greeted me right away and I wanted to order everything! I ended up ordering the Curry Noodle Gai ($14.95), the Charming Dumpling ($8.95), the cheese corn pocket ($7.95) and a Thai Iced Tea ($5.25). I took a seat at one of the tables and they brought out my drink right away and the food came out not too long afterward. The restaurant is really cute and I'll definitely try to dine in some time with friends. I ended up taking my order home, which is about 25-30 minutes away and everything was still warm and the cheese corn pockets were still nice and crispy. I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered them, but they were a great appetizer, creamy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. The Curry Noodle Gai was also delicious, the curry flavor was great with the noodles and chicken.
